Abstract:
The Activity Card Sort (ACS) measures the level of participation, as perceived by each person which, unlike other scales, makes it both personal and significant. However, there is a limitation to applying the ACS to Spanish older adults as it is restricted to culturally relevant activities solely in the United States. Therefore, the aim of this study was to select activity items that reflected Spanish older adults’ lifestyles in order to develop the Activity Card Sort-Spain Version (ACS-SP). Frequently, activities performed in Spain (n=103) were listed in an initial draft. The Likert scale was administrated to a large group of Spanish nationals over the age of 60 years (n=98) to establish which type of activities will be eventually included in the Spanish version. The final version was drawn up comprising 79 activities distributed between four performance areas. In addition, other activities that were not previously included by other assessment tools were considered and have been listed in this review, such as taking a nap, going out for a drink or “tapas,” or searching for a job. The gradual adaptation to ACS for Spaniards will make it possible to measure the level of an individual’s participation within a community. However, further work on psychometric properties is needed.

Abstract:
The Activity Card Sort (ACS) can both record the clients’ participation and any changes, which is a useful tool for practitioners to establish tailored occupation-focused goals. However, there is a limitation to apply the ACS to Japanese older adults as it consists of culturally relevant activities in the United States. The aim of this study was to select activity items reflecting Japanese older adults’ lifestyles and opinions to develop the Activity Card Sort–Japan Version (ACS-JPN). In the item selection process, a two-round questionnaire survey was conducted for community-dwelling Japanese older adults (Round 1: n = 177, M age = 69.9 years; Round 2: n = 178, M age = 74.9 years). Seventy-two activity items were finally included in the ACS-JPN and were classified into four domains. The ACS-JPN has some unique features compared with other ACS versions. This study only selected activity items. Further work on psychometric properties is needed.

Abstract:
Values are directly relevant in a number of theoretical orientations in psychology, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In ACT, clarification of one’s personal values is paramount. The present study examined the ability to predict clinical symptoms and psychological flexibility using variables derived from one’s performance on the ACT Values Card Sort (ACT-VCS), a novel values clarification exercise. The independent variables, obtained from the ACT-VCS, included 1) the number of values endorsed as very important in the initial sort (i.e., valuing propensity), 2) the number of values domains represented in the final sort (i.e., values diversity), and 3) the extent to which one’s values were oriented toward uncontrollable experiences (i.e., control agenda endorsement). Three hierarchical regressions were conducted to examine the extent to which these three predictors accounted for the variance in scores of a) depression, anxiety, and stress, b) psychological flexibility, and c) psychological inflexibility. The psychological flexibility model was significant (∆R squared = .25 (F (3, 69) = 12.20, p < .001) with valuing propensity (squared semi-partial correlation r = .13, p < .001) and control agenda endorsement (squared semi-partial correlation r = .05, p < .01), but not values diversity, independently accounting for a significant portion of the variance. Prior therapy experience moderated some of these relationships. These findings provide preliminary evidence for using performance variables from the ACT-VCS to predict clinical variables.

Chay, Claire. "Le travail des déchets : regards croisés sur une activité industrielle et environnementale." Thesis, Toulouse 2, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015TOU20084.

Abstract:
This dissertation explores the work of waste management by the use sociological mixed methods: computer-assisted discourse analysis and participant observation in waste industries. This research aims at showing the scope of work in waste industry as well as the content of the professional household waste sorting activity. The research focuses on interaction, social regulation and organizational work. This PhD dissertation shows the tensions between environment (green jobs) and the conditions of industrial work. The first part emphasizes on the elements that define this type of opposition. We observed a strong division of labor, particularly because the conception appears very far from the actual manual activities occurring in factories. Then the coexistence of public and private showcase other socio-economic issues related to the type of management. Finally, work in the waste sector, it is also considering the issue of risks at work and environmental hazards, which meanings are subject to the work context. The second part of the dissertation research aims at understanding how the workers live these contradictions and how they manage to move in this constraining industrial world. The research shows the importance and the difficulties for a novice to "become" a worker through the integration of a work collective and the appropriation of work. This will highlight the importance of social relationships and language activity in a workplace “a priori” hostile to interactions. Finally, the weight of waste sorter job’s representations, the risk of soiling and the apprehension of line work bring the worker to negotiate this “very dirty work” in order to change the working conditions and representations to be more viable and decent

The present research searched to investigate as it comes after being developed the teaching activity in a municipal school of infantile education twelve years of the promulgation of the LDBEN/96. For in such a way, the following questions of research had been proposals: How the organization of the school comes making possible the accomplishment of the teaching activity in the infantile education?; How does gender training is the teaching activities at this school?; How the teacher organizes and develops the teaching activity with children of two the three years? ; Which the challenges found for the teacher in the accomplishment of the teaching activity? They had been used as theoretical subsidy estimated of partner-historical Psychology and the categories real activity; Real of the activity; sort; e style proposals for Yves Clot in the Clinic of the Activity. They had been used as procedures and instruments of collection of data: comment and register; documentary analysis; interview; questionnaire application. After manipulation and preliminary analysis of the material, the data had been reorganized around the two great theoretical categories: Sort and Style. The results show that the forms of organization of the teaching activity in the EMEI Aprender, consider the curricular lines of direction formulated recently for the education secretariat, as well as the Theory of Multiple intelligences, referencial theoretician adopted in the year of 2009 for the teaching and managing team of the school. Such lapsings had significantly modified the carried through teaching activity in this EMEI. At the same time, it generated unreliability in the professors how much to the new form of performance. Different strategies had been formulated by the teachers to take care of or to not new lapsings them. In what it refers to the teaching activity in infantile the II, notices bigger valuation of the carried through didactic activities in classroom, mainly the manuals, conserving still present the escolarizante model in many schools of infantile education. In the external spaces, the activities that have predominance are the Free considered ones. Practical the pedagogical associates when playing and the exploration of the different spaces, understood as activities planned and loaded of intentions, sufficiently are reduced. To finish, she understands yourself that she enters the prescribed activity and the carried through work, has unsafe, changes of routes and differentiated forms of concretion of the lapsing that disclose the existing contradictions in the act of the work. In the situations where the prescribed imperfection, the teaching team of the EMEI Aprender searchs in the professional sort new possibilities of performance, reconfiguring it and recriando it by means of the personal style

Cheese whey fermentation with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) results in the production of lactic acid, but can also induce the proteolysis of the major whey proteins, therefore originating polypeptides with antibacterial activities. This work set out to determine if by using different types of whey (ovine, caprine and bovine), inoculated with three different LAB strains, could enhance proteolysis degradation of major whey proteins and improve antibacterial activity. Lactic acid production was monitored throughout time by using chromatographic techniques and protein variations were evaluated by electrophoretic techniques. Low Molecular Weight (LMW) polypeptides were isolated by ultra filtration and tested for their bioactivities against the model bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. Overall, results showed that consumption of whey proteins α-lactalbumin and β-lactoglobulin as well as antibacterial activities induced by fermentation were highly dependent on the bacterial strain, the type of whey used and the length of fermentation. Despite being little known by its proteolytic activity towards caseins and whey proteins, Lactobacillus casei proved to be a strain with high fermentative potential and the capacity to produce antibacterial polypeptides

Juan, Muriel. "Continuité de l’emploi et évolution des activités publiques." Thesis, Pau, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PAUU2011/document.

Abstract:
Classical phenomenon in labour law, the changes which happens in an activity’s management or organisation and the resulting question of the employee’s fate appears like one of the most important contemporary labour law’s subject. Despite it concerns public undertakings engaged in economic activities, whether or not they are operating for gain, as well as private undertakings, this dimension is nevertheless well known and characterised by a lack of detailed analysis, at least by a putting in perspective’s lack of all hypothesis concerned. Consequently, this study chooses to consider the social issue following public activities changes in its globality by including all cases concerned, as well in an organic point of vue (employees nature, original structure or welcoming structure nature) then in a material point of vue (public activities externalization, return of an activity under a public control, decentralization, powers’ transfers between local authorities, privatization of public ownerships, etc.). This study’s aim is to reveal the importance of the human element in the event of a change on activity’s management or organisation and to give, in a practical view, the keys to resolve the social issue which belongs to each activity’s changes, whatever is the working hypothesis concerned. First, depending on the public or private nature of the personnel, it should be clearly identified the tranfer’s obligations which could exist according to labour legislation or a collective agreement and to bring them face to political decision to keep or redeploy employees. Then, it must be explained the procedure of transfer. More particularly, it should be confirmed if the transfer needs to be accepted by each employee, to be formalized by a contract signature or as well to be submitted to union companies. Finally, it is important to envisage precisely the transfer consequences as for employers then for employees, in financial (wages, individual or collective benefits, etc.) and operational terms (human resources organisation, management rules between original employer and new employer in case of provided civil servant, etc.)

Codina, Sala Joan. "Activity Mediated Interactions in Soft Matter. Structure, Interactions, and Phase Transitions." Doctoral thesis, Universitat de Barcelona, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/663988.

Abstract:
In this thesis we asses the phenomena of arising interactions in soft matter in coexistence with soft active matter. As a non-equilibrium bath we introduce ensembles of self-propelled particles, granular shaken beds, and photo active catalytic particles. We start the thesis with a detailed study of the widely used Active Brownian Particle (ABP) model. This model exhibits a non-equilibrium phase transition which has been intensively studied in recent years, we have finally reported that this transition satisfies all features of equilibrium first order phase transitions. Then, we introduce aligning interactions in ABP and characterize the emergent collective phenomena. In parallel, we explore the emergent forces, from mechanical contact forces, in probe particles in suspensions of aligning active particles and horizontally shaken granular beds. We characterize the forces and identify the emergence of long range interactions in both systems, in aligning active particles long range attractive interactions appear as alignment is increased, and in granular shaken media when the pair of particles align in the shaking direction. Finally, we conclude this thesis with the study of emergent interactions in spherically symmetric systems of catalytic active particles. Symmetry does not permit such particles to propell but the symmetry is broken with the addition of neighboring particles. We model the pair interaction in terms of the relative velocity between particles, and proceed to explore the emergent structures in mixtures of catalytic magnetic particles, and passive particles. We have unveiled the formation of clusters of passive particles. The addition of magnetic interactions between active particles leads to the formation of ramified gel-like structures for dense configurations of active particles. In this case, experimentalists have checked the formation of structures with the same morphologies in experiments in the laboratory.

Colostrum from the first secretions of the mammary glands is considered an essential food for the development of newborns due to its high content of proteins, antimicrobial peptides, macro and micronutrients. The serum is considered na important coproduct for the dairy industry, configuring about 85-90% of the total milk volume, its proteins are recognized by their biological properties, since they have an excellent composition and bioavailability of essential amino acids. The present study had as objective to characterize the serum protein profile of goat colostrum produced by goats Created in Paraíba and to evaluate possible biological activities. The serum (SR) was obtained by acid precipitation in pH 4.1 and fractionated by ammonium sulfate precipitation to obtain the fractions 0-30% (SF1), 30- 60% (SF2) and 60-90% (SF3). The analysis of the protein profile was verified by SDS-PAGE and total amino acids. The biological properties of the samples were verified with the analysis of antioxidant, DNA protection and antibacterial activities. It was verified that colostrum serum presents proteins with molecular masses between 12-160kDa and an excellent profile of amino acids. From the obtained results it is possible to affirm that all the fractions were able to sequester the radicals ABTS and DPPH. For the DNA protection test, the concentracion of 10μg of SF3 conferred a greater integrity to the molecule. The samples presented inhibitory activity for both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Colostrum serum proteins have biological properties with potential biotechnological application and pharmaceutical interest

Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: In this exploratory study we examine personal information management within music streaming applications. Also, we investigate the sense of ownership over songs being played on music streaming applications and whether the use of these services may be considered a social activity. In addition, we explore the extent of user privacy concern in using music streaming applications. Background: This paper represents the second phase of the article titled Usage Habits in Music Streaming Applications and their Influence on Privacy Related Issues [Research in Progress] (Weinberger & Bouhnik, 2019). Methodology: The research is conducted using a mixed methodology and consists of two phases: qualitative and quantitative. The qualitative stage is a pilot which includes semi-structured interviews with three music streaming application users in order to explore the possible change in personal information management, following the emergence of these applications (e.g., changes in classification and song retrieval methods). The quantitative phase includes the distribution of closed ended questionnaires among 192 users of music streaming applications (Male – 72.9%, Female – 27.1%; Age: 18-58), aiming to explore personal information management issues and privacy related issues that emerge while using these applications. Contribution: As far as we know, this is the first academic research to investigate the issue of personal information management among music streaming applications and the also the first to use a mixed methods approach to examine digital music consumption. In addition, it is the first study that takes into account privacy related issues among the users of music streaming applications. Findings: We found major changes between personal musical information management in the past and in the present. As most of the participants (85.4%) prefer nowadays to sort musical items in playlists or not to sort them at all. Out of the participants who chose to sort in folders in the past, only 42.7% still do it at present and out of the participants who chose to sort by alphabetical order in the past, only 15.7% do it at present. Also, we found that the participants have medium sense of ownership over the songs being stored on their streaming applications (M=2.78, SD=1.46) and medium sense that those applications may be used as social activity (M=2.75, SD=1.25). Interestingly, the choice of "sophisticated" genres (e.g. Blues, Jazz or Classical) as favorite music genre predicts the perception of using music streaming applications as part of social activity (R2=0.044, p<0.05). As for privacy concern, it was found that although the participants are moderately concerned about privacy within music streaming applications (M=2.67, SD=1.15), they are willing to pay for higher privacy protection services if they will be offered to them (r=0.49, p<0.001). In general, participants were found to be moderately willing to pay for premium services (M=2.44, SD=1.01), with ad-free service (M=3.07, SD=1.54) being the highest ranked premium service. Impact on Society: The research may drive music streaming applications operators to offer premium services that provide various benefits, such as: ad-free usage, higher privacy protection or better social features, as participants are willing to pay for those features. They may also personalize their users by preferred music genres, to adapt the specific service being offered to them.

Abstract:
Considering the growing demand for organic production of food and registration-related problems, the number of pest management products that can be used in this sort of production is limited. In this study the efforts have been made to formulate the Neem oil emulsions which would be used as agrochemicals. Bioassays were performed on aphids (Myzodes persicae Sulz., Aphis gossypii Glow , Aphis pomi Deg.) in order to compare the insecticidal activity of the neem oil new preparative form NEEM-01 with that of the commercial biorational product Pelecol EO. The bioassays conducted on the aphids demonstrated that the NEEM-01 aplicated at the doze 8,0 l/ha was not effective as the commercial product Pelecol EO. But at the doze 10,0 l/ha new preparative form of neem oil has demonstrated a good biological effectiveness during 7 days after two treatments.

In ASME 2012 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2012. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/imece2012-89490.

Full text
Abstract:
The paper describes the preliminary results of a research activity on the design of consumer-product interaction by means of interactive Virtual Prototypes (iVPs). Differently from Virtual Prototypes (VPs), which can be defined as an integration of geometries and functional multi-domain and multi-physics models, interactive Virtual Prototypes can be implemented as an integration of functional models for each sense — in this case vision, touch and hearing — which are parametric and independent from each other, so that they can be modified on request. Thanks to the use of iVPs the interaction design approach can be reversed. In fact, first the iVP can be used for the design and evaluation with final users of the consumer-product interaction, and then the resulting interaction parameters can be mapped back to the functional models of the VPs by following a sort of reverse engineering activity. So, the interaction specifications are not derived by questionnaires and focus groups with potential customers, but products are shown, tested, and customised directly with the potential buyers. This method presents several advantages for companies. It allows designers to more easily and directly capture the voice of the customers by gathering an immediate feedback about new interaction modalities, and also to design and validate at the same time the emotional response of their products. Besides, these studies and validations can be performed when the product design is in its infancy and technical decisions have not been taken, with the consequent advantage that design changes are not too expensive. The paper demonstrates the validity and potentiality of the methodology through some case studies.

Abstract:
The proposed research activity is part of the conservation of cultural heritage and is based on the study and development of advanced techniques for monitoring, inspecting and mapping building cracks in order to obtain and constantly update the state of building safety through a GIS platform. The data collection (initial and periodic) is one of the most important phases of the monitoring process and allows us to obtain information about the integrity of the buildings, essential in order to plan future design and intervention choices. This operation can be carried out both through traditional tools (3D laser scanners, GNSS receivers, motorized total station) and innovative tools (such as remote sensing or UAVs). The goal of the research was the design and construction of an innovative automated system for monitoring and continuous data acquisition (big data). Furthermore, we have implemented algorithms dedicated to the management of the amount of georeferenced data (big data) acquired. We optimized their representation on GIS (Geographic Information System) platforms in order to obtain an “open and updatable” thematic cartography, and set up a sort of Cadastre of unsafe buildings in the village of Casalvecchio Siculo (possibly extended to other villages in the future). This is intended (in our application) as an updatable IT tool for archiving, viewing, querying and managing all the data that the municipality and the regions have on their own villages. In it, it will be possible to represent the elements inherent to the geometric characteristics of the buildings, their relevance, the state of the cracks, the interventions carried out in the most important historic buildings and the systems created, having databases available that allow quick selective searches by topics.

Abstract:
Within the framework of the cleaning operation of the Marcoule reprocessing plant UP1 (France), the CEA (French Atomic Energy Commission) developed a measurement system for 225-liter drums filled with bituminized radioactive sludge originating from the effluent treatment. This work was carried out for the CODEM, which is an economic interest group made up of CEA, EDF (the French public utility) and COGEMA (the operator of UP1). CODEM is in charge of UP1 dismantling operations, especially waste retrieval. The bituminized waste drums mainly contain plutonium, americium, uranium, curium and various beta emitters among which some are responsible for significant gamma irradiation, such as 137Cs. The aim of this system is to sort the packages according to their radioactive level, so as to direct them towards the French Aube Center, which is a surface repository. This means they must meet the acceptance criteria related to their activities. Otherwise, they will remain in interim storage in Marcoule, pending the choice of a final mode of management (e.g. underground disposal). The assay system, called UTM (the French acronym for “Measurement and Sorting Unit”), consists of three stations devoted to active gamma imaging, gamma-ray spectroscopy and combined passive / active neutron measurements. After nearly 3 years of optimization and design studies [1], the CEA has built a scale one mock-up of UTM, called SYMETRIC. The purpose was to validate the performances formerly assessed by numerical simulation, mainly with the computer code MCNP [2]. We present here the experimental results obtained with SYMETRIC for five real bituminized waste drums. These confirm the expected performances in the measurement time assigned for each assay, which is limited to 1200 seconds. With the help of gamma imaging, we are able to determine the density of the bituminous mix with an uncertainty of ± 10% for a confidence level of 95%. We can also measure the filling height with an accuracy of ± 2 cm. These data allow us to correct matrix effects in gamma and neutron measurements. For these assays, the main results concern the detection limits and measurement uncertainties on 241Am, 239Pu and 240Pu. These radioisotopes represent the major part of the total alpha activity, which is a very sensitive parameter for surface disposal limited to a maximum level of about 10 GBq per drum. The alpha activity must be calculated after a radioactive decay of 300 years, which is the survey period of the French Aube Center. If we can detect the former isotopes, the uncertainties on their measured activities are roughly 50%. If not, the detection limits are around a few GBq. These performances are sufficient to allow the sorting of the drums to either surface repository or interim storage. However, in order to increase the margin between the detection limits and the acceptance criterion on the total alpha activity, additional studies on the optimization of the measurement performances will be carried out. In this context, the experience gained with the SYMETRIC mock-up will be very helpful.
