Full textThis work starts from a matter put by the current reality: The world economic crisis, specially seem on what has been denominated \"money predomination economy\" and, along with the crisis, the one of national State, both seen under the world\'s perspective and, equally, the Brazilian perspective. Nevertheless, this work does not intend, herein, to give a historical or purely economic treatment of the problem. Instead, what you will see is closer to an analytical and theoretical exercise. This work constitutes, firstly, of a deep discussion about the basis of capital economy which, according to what is understood, also are the basis of the current economic crisis. Secondly, to reflect about the economic crisis as much as politics, is necessary to reflect about the production of space and the State\'s role within the capitalist society. And thirdly, the union between the State and the capital shows itself identifiable on the national territory analysis along with your basis. Last but not least, the current crisis problem is put through a criticism to the lack of focusing the capital on a specific market, criticism that takes us to formulate the hypothesis of an abstract investment of capital, which would be a characteristic of the crisis itself.

Full textThe metropolis of São Paulo has undergone profound changes since the 1990s. The so-called southwest vector has established itself as the new economic centre in the country. This process relates to the reproduction of the urban space as a condition, means and product of capital accumulation. The strength of this phenomenon and of this condition is relatively new. The history of the geographical concentration of capital in the city of São Paulo has always privileged new investment opportunitiesin loco, however, whenever the movement of concentration starts to give way to geographic centralization of capital, the process intensifies exponentially. At this point, the concentration itself becomes the condition for the reestablishment of new investment opportunities in the recently instituted centrality: a dynamics that consume previous capitalist spatial configurations. And thisis a specifically urban accumulation. In Brazil, the spatial dynamics of capital had not been significant until the 1990s decade. The hypothesis used to explain the mismatch in the case of Brazil recognizes the priority of the production process over thereproduction of the urban space. That means that the urbanization has extended in time just because it could extend in space. The expanded urbanization of the Brazilian territory has been the result of a state policy committed to capital development, therefore, it has absorbed profitably the surpluses frequently generated in the Brazilian economy. Due to the crisis of developmentalism and the conditions prevailing in the major national centers, the valorization process required more than could be achieved with the maintenance of a weak expansionist dynamics. From this point on, the state reorganizes itself and creates new instruments that permit action at the metropolitan scale. The production of new centers, as a dimension of the reproduction of urban space, as well as the geographical centralization, diminish the importance of the expansionist dynamics for capital. In the age of global finance, the geographical intensification of capital becomes the mainstay of accumulation strategies.

Our hypothesis in this paper is that progress of companies and groups abroad is the consequence of a long process of concentration and centralization of the capital and the entrepreneur’s innovative role. Hard competition and enormous monetary availability may be the cause of the capital centralization and concentration of products that demand capital and high technology in recent years. After a long process of concentration and centralization of capital, companies and groups of peripheral countries restructure their business where they able to compete with companies of developed countries, compelled by the oligopolic world competitivity in the nineties. Thus, those companies moved abroad. The flows of direct investment that were restricted to the Triad are the result, now, of the emergency of global players in peripheral countries (Brazil, China, Mexico, India, among other), demonstrating, inter alia, that the process of capital centralization is now in disconcentration. Spatiality, the consequences are the redefinition of the center-periphery relationship, thanks the aggressive acquisitions made by those new players and the relativization of the importance of developed countries, by significant increase of the investments South-South. The main points of this study are those changes and based on the strategies of Votorantim Group... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

This research contributes to the discussion about the configuration of Real Estate market in Belém and recent changes which are related to the process, ongoing financialization of national Real Estate market. Context of analyzes are undertaken resulting in formation of local Real Estate market, and how intra-urban dynamics in Belém derive from this process over twentieth century. Explores mainly the context that leads to consolidating two different fronts of performance of real estate location: Central area and axis expansion highway Augusto Montenegro. In continuation, we analyze the current moment, which is marked by the entry of national Real Estate developers publicly traded in the local market, highlighting how these companies act in the urban space of the city and contrasting with the way of working of local Real Estate developers.

Major companies and economic groups, within the current expanded reproduction process of the capital and its accumulation regime with dominance of financial valuation, require, increasingly, major business (mega projects, mega-events), and those can only be feasible in partnership with the State. This relationship, over time, becomes more complex and includes a number of innovations in political-institutional and spatial arrangements. Thus, the question has been raised as to whether great works connected to the restructuring process of the metropolitan space implemented in the Metropolitan Region of Recife – MRR could be considered as expressions of an expanded patrimonial rentier accumulation among the State and different fractions of the capital, amplifying the contradictory unity between ‘’fix and flows’’ peculiar of the reproduction of the contemporary capital. To solve this question efforts have been made to demonstrate the actions of the State and its role regarding the concentration and centralization of the capital in the hands of economic oligarchies, in this case, national economic groups connected to space production (building construction) and to the financial capital, and to assure important economic and extra-economic conditions for accumulation, using public funds, subsidized credit, tax incentives, lands and others. It has been identified that sectors such as building construction gain from the growth of the national economy, leading to the search for investments in fixed capital, which also occurs in times of economic crises of the capitalist system. It has been chosen a qualitative, explanatory, documentary and bibliographic type of research. It is based here on the understanding that urbanization, modernization, economic policy and planning are social realities, and that all social reality is spatially and historically determined. In the organization of the thesis exhibition it was chosen to follow the regressive-progressive method of H. Lefebvre. It is understood in this research that the big businesses of production of the space have as main beneficiaries the great contractors "The National Champions". The major projects have been analyzed: The Cup City/Itaipava Arena; Rota dos Coqueiros e Cidade Saneada as representative of a ‘’new’’ articulation between public and private within the process which we call expanded patrimonial rentier accumulation between State and capital. Thus, the study focused on the economic and spatial restructuring of the MRR linked to those projects and concluded that this process is the result of global capitalist competition now driven by a broad process of financialization of the world economy, result of an space-time adjustment of the system and its link with the production of the space, and also represents a coalition of interests among national and local fractions of the capital which represent economic groups connected to the construction industry, via political-institutional and spatial arrangements such as concessions and public-private partnerships, long-term debt and shares in the social capital of a select number of companies from the heavy construction sector linked to great national holdings, being those agents able to manipulate the public fund via political and economic influence, in an overlay context of geographic scales.

Full textThis work is an analysis of the production of space in the Brazilian motor car industry, involving the transition of fordism to flexible production. This study aims the examination of a complex network between space and capitals production and reproduction strategies, including these strategies changes. Space is considered as a product. On the other hand, it is also considered as productive. It was sought to detect what are the main changes (political, social, economical and spatial ones) which take place in the transition from the fordist´s strategies of reproduction and accumulation of capital to the flexible production ones. It was also considered how this transition changes the industrial location factors in the territory, besides the internal industrial organization. It was, therefore, produced a study related to the industrial space reorganization that included the existing relations between capital and State (enhancing the role of the public fund), labor and space. The motor car industry in Brazil was particularly studied, as it constitutes a paradigmatic example of the recent changes in the contemporary capitalism, and due to its influence and importance in this country it is also an example of how the geographical space is produced and reorganized from such changes. A bibliographic revision about the related subject, a data search and interviews with employees from Volkswagen do Brasil and with members of the Metallurgy Workers Union from great São Paulo (Sindicato dos Metalúrgicos do ABC) were made to make this work possible.

Full textThis study aims to examine the fundamental process of social production and reproduction of urban space and how they can develop the contradiction between appropriation and domination of urban space in metropolitan Sao Paulo, especially in the region of Luz, in the downtown area of the city. Understanding this process entails consideration in their diversity, the socio-economic, political and cultural life experienced by residents, traders and users of the Region of Luz, which also reflects the dynamics of contemporary capitalist society. In developing the research it was done necessary to establish a scale of measuring and this was through bonds of friendship with people, and merchants in the area. The analysis showed that the basis for the production and reproduction of space in metropolitan Sao Paulo is the contradictory reproduction of urban space. While state and private enterprise, so interconnected and independent dispute of the use of space, transforming it into an instrument of domination, people generally tend to take ownership of the space for the reproduction of life. In these moments it is possible to see the emergence of insurgencies against the unborn child, as stipulated by the actions that regulate the area. Relevant dimension as a starting point for understanding this production of space is a reflection on the concept development throughout history and the possibility of ownership and use, while there is pressing need for life. As the space produced by a capitalist society is appropriated exclusively, the use tends to be subordinated to the mediation of the exchange market. The production of the city is, therefore, the clash between the conflicting interests of different groups and under the intervention of the government. This research pointed to the constant struggle for survival, differing ways of understanding and participation in the struggle for the appropriation of urban space and the right to the city and, in particular, pointed out that the use of conquered space happened in a possible place and bears the mark of segregation in social and space allotted to used in metropolitan Sao Paulo, which justifies the continuation of the struggle for territory desired.

Full textThis thesis analyzes the process of private appropriation of the São Paulo and his participation in the production of the city\'s space, Aspects related to social, political and economic development, From its foundation in the 16th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Starting from the Pipelines of the Tamanduateí, Tietê and Pinheiros rivers, the research Historical retreat until such time as the rivers and streams of São Paulo were constituted as a common good and its main characteristic Was the use of its waters and lands. The various activities Rivers and streams, in the first centuries of occupation, are characterized By the coexistence between the immediate consumption, the use of labor And income through free labor, at a In which the economy of São Paulo was timid and the pollution of the rivers was already Perceived. During the nineteenth century, from the culture of coffee and immigration, An economy based on free wage labor was established And in the valuation of land ownership. In the city of São Paulo, the Population growth and the insufficient distribution of water and depletion, Associated with the economic significance of the property and Labor market began to represent the possibility of Capital appreciation based on the establishment of general conditions of production. The rivers of São Paulo were then incorporated into the Provision of urban services infrastructures and networks. This process Of accumulation of wealth, based on the expropriation of land and water, Transformed the São Paulo rivers into economic resources and spawned A space that is characterized by the overlapping of the particular domain On the common domain.
