Abstract:
Cast aluminium composite materials based on AD0 aluminium, reinforced with carbon nanotubes and aluminium oxide nanofibers are obtained. It is shown that the additives of 0.05 wt % of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and aluminum oxide nanofibers (AONF) allow increasing ultimate tensile strength of cast metal by 15 % and 16 % respectively. Strengthening of the metal is maintained after cold deformation and annealing. Aluminum AD0 with additives SWCNT or AONF retains high strength after annealing, while aluminum without additives is significantly weakened, this allows to obtain annealed aluminum wire, with a strength limit of 54 – 69 % and yield strength of 53 – 78 % higher than that of metal without additives. The influence of SWCNT and AONF on the size of aluminum grain AD0 in the cast state, after cold deformation and annealing has been studied. Nano-additives have been found to inhibit the growth of metal grains at the stage of collective recrystallization, as well as to influence the process of primary recrystallization of aluminum.

Abstract:
Optimum parameters are defined for friction stir welding modes of aluminum AD0 plates of 28mm thick. It is shown that at friction stir welding with mixing (FSW) aluminum AD0 plates a qualitative joint formation can be ensured at the expense of bilateral welding (alternatively on the right and root side of the joint). At the intensive plastic deformation impact and metal heating at the expense of friction the structure of welded AD0 alloy plates is formed by means of the narrow bands ("onion rings" successive interchange) having an ultra-dispersion grain structure. At heat application increase at the expense of the increase of tool rotation frequency and a tool pressure force a temperature-time mode of welding supporting a partial recrystallization of deformed grains in a joint center is changed. At the application of maximum tensile stresses a welded joint destruction occurs along a division border of media with a different structure in consequence of the incompatibility of their deformation.

Abstract:
We construct a Green’s function for the three-term fractional differential equation −D0+α−1u+aD0+μu+f(t)u=h(t), 0<t<b, where α∈(2,3], μ∈(1,2], and f is continuous, satisfying the boundary conditions u(0)=u′(0)=0, D0+βu(b)=0, where β∈[0,2]. To accomplish this, we first construct a Green’s function for the two-term problem −D0+α−1u+aD0+μu=h(t), 0<t<b, satisfying the same boundary conditions. A lemma from spectral theory is integral to our construction. Some limiting properties of the Green’s function for the two-term problem are also studied. Finally, existence results are given for a nonlinear problem.

Abstract:
SummaryAfter acute myocardial infarction (MI) the damaged heart has to be repaired. Factor XIII (FXIII) is considered a key molecule in promoting heart healing. FXIII deficiency was associated to cardiac rupture and anomalous remodelling in MI. During MI, FXIII contributes firstly to the intracoronary thrombus formation and shortly after to heal the myocardial lesion. To quantify the real contribution of FXIII in this process, and to explore its possible prognostic role, we monitored the FXIII-A subunit levels in 350 acute MI patients during the first six days (d0-d5) plus a control at 30–60 days (d30). A one-year follow-up was performed for all the patients. A transient drop in the FXIII-A mean level was noted in the whole cohort of patients (FXIII-Ad0 99.48 ± 30.5 vs FXIII-Ad5 76.51 ± 27.02; p< 0.0001). Interestingly, those who developed post-MI heart failure showed the highest drop (FXIII-Ad5 52.1 ± 25.2) and they already presented with low levels at recruitment. Similarly, those who died showed the same FXIII-A dynamic (FXIII-Ad5 54.0 ± 22.5). Conversely, patients who remained free of major adverse cardiac events, had lower consuming (FXIII-Ad0 103.6 ± 29.1 vs FXIII-Ad5 84.4 ± 24.5; p< 0.0001). Interestingly, the FXIII-A drop was independent from the amount of injury assessed by TnT and CKMB levels. The survival analysis ascribed an increased probability of early death or heart failure inversely related to FXIII-A quartiles (FXIII-A25th< 59.5 %; hazard ratio 4.25; 2.2–5.1; p< 0.0001). Different FXIII-A dynamics and levels could be utilised as early prognostic indicators during acute MI, revealing the individual potential to heal and suggesting tailored treatments to avoid heart failure or its extreme consequence.Note: This paper was presented in part at the 14th Congress of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Amsterdam, Netherlands, June 29 – July 24, 2013.

Abstract:
The storage roots of arracacha have high nutritional value, being rich in carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins A and C, and starch of high digestibility. However, in this crop one of the decisive factors for the production of roots with higher nutritional value is the balanced fertilization. The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield and nutritional quality of storage roots of arracacha, grown at increasing levels of NPK fertilization. The experiment was conducted in the randomized blocks design, with eight replications. The treatments consisted of three NPK levels (AD0 = unfertilized cultivation, AD1 = cultivation with 50% of recommended fertilization, and AD2 = cultivation with 100% ofrecommended fertilization). It was observedthat higher levels of NPK fertilization increase the number, size and marketable yield of storage roots of arracachacrop. NPK fertilization also increases the size and contentsof K, Mg, and Mn of storage roots, without interfering with the pulp pH and contentsof protein, Ca, Cu, and Fe. However, when the increase in root size is not accompanied by an increase in dry matter content, the starch, P, and Zn contents of the roots reduce with increasing levels of NPK fertilization.

Abstract:
Abstract To be able to charge a correct amount of chlorine dioxide in the D0-stage, a pulp mill needs good control of the bleaching process and good sensors to keep the variability of the bleaching result on an acceptable level. It is also important to include the bleaching agent demand from the dissolved matter in the pulp slurry. If this is done correctly, over- or undercharging of bleaching agents can be reduced, which lead to lower bleaching chemical cost, lower polluting emissions and higher pulp quality. Our previous research has shown that the dissolved organic carryover from the O2-stage varies significantly when bleaching softwood kraft pulp. The present study investigated the corresponding impact in the case of bleaching of birch pulp. Different mill configurations and process conditions have been simulated in laboratory trials, including proceeding A-stage treatment, different degrees of washing before and between the stages, and a comparison of the effects of recycled and non-recycled wash filtrates. The results have confirmed the significant impact of the dissolved organic matter, and the knowledge which have been generated can be used to understand how measurement and control concepts can be developed to improve the pulp quality control and to decrease production cost.

Abstract:
During the process of the aluminum ingot manufacturing obtaining of a fine-grained structure has a huge significance for effectiveness of the further rolling process. The reduction of the grain size leads to an increased plasticity and higher grades of deformability. Today the multiple methods of improving the casting process are being developed varying from mechanical to physical or chemical methods, and their choice depends on different factors. However, the effect on the size of grains of the multi-factor impact was not described in literature. This paper investigates methods of casting including piston pressing with simultaneous exposure to the weak pulsed currents from electromagnetic field during crystallization of melted metal for the first time. The fine-grained uniform over the cross-section structure was achieved in the AD0 alloy ingots.

Abstract:
Where the level of agricultural technology is higher, common bean cultivars with a higher yield potential possibly require greater amounts of micronutrients. In Brazil however, there is a lack of information about the micronutrient extraction and exportation by the main grown cultivars. The objective of this study was to evaluate micronutrient (B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn) extraction and exportation by common bean cultivars Pérola and IAC Alvorada, under different levels of NPK fertilization, on a dystroferric Red Nitosol, in Botucatu, São Paulo State, Brazil. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block (split plot) design with four replications. The plots consisted of six treatments based on a 2 x 3 factorial model, represented by two cultivars and three NPK levels (PD0 - 'Pérola' without fertilization, PD1 - 'Pérola' with 50 % of recommended fertilization, PD2 - 'Pérola' with 100 % of recommended fertilization, AD0 - 'IAC Alvorada' without fertilization, AD1 - 'IAC Alvorada' with 50 % of recommended fertilization, and AD2 - 'IAC Alvorada' with 100 % of recommended fertilization) and subplots sampled seven times during the cycle. Higher levels of NPK fertilization increased micronutrient extraction by both cultivars, and treatments with 100 % of recommended NPK fertilization extracted on average 167 g B, 58 g Cu, 1,405 g Fe, 1,213 g Mn and 211 g Zn per hectare. Regardless of the treatment, the highest demand period for B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn in both cultivars occurred at the R7 stage (pod formation), i.e. 42 to 55 days after emergence (DAE). The amount of B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn exported depended mainly on the level of NPK fertilization used, with values per hectare ranging from 38 to 90 g of B, 12 to 26 g of Cu, 222 to 568 g of Fe 234 to 467 g of Mn, and 40 to 96 g of Zn.

Abstract:
The environmental impact of biowaste generated during animal production can be mitigated by applying a circular economy model: recycling, reinventing the life cycle of biowaste, and developing it for a new use. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding sugar concentrate solutions obtained from the nanofiltration of fruit biowaste (mango peel) to slurry from piglets fed with diets incorporating macroalgae on biogas production performance. The nanofiltration of ultrafiltration permeates from aqueous extracts of mango peel was carried out using membranes with a molecular weight cut-off of 130 Da until a volume concentration factor of 2.0 was reached. A slurry resulting from piglets fed with an alternative diet with the incorporation of 10% Laminaria was used as a substrate. Three different trials were performed sequentially: (i) a control trial (AD0) with faeces resulting from a cereal and soybean-meal-based diet (S0); (ii) a trial with S1 (10% L. digitata) (AD1), and (iii) an AcoD trial to assess the effect of the addition of a co-substrate (20%) to S1 (80%). The trials were performed in a continuous-stirred tank reactor (CSTR) under mesophilic conditions (37.0 ± 0.4 °C), with a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 13 days. The specific methane production (SMP) increased by 29% during the anaerobic co-digestion process. These results can support the design of alternative valorisation routes for these biowastes, contributing to sustainable development goals.

Abstract:
The use of cultivars with a higher yield potential and the adoption of new technology have achieved high grain yields in common bean, which probably changed the demand for nutrients in this crop. However, there is almost no information about the periods of the cycle in which nutrients are most demanded at which quantities by the main cultivars. The objective of this study was to evaluate the macronutrient extraction and exportation by the common bean cultivars Pérola and IAC Alvorada, under different levels of NPK fertilization, on a dystroferric Red Nitosol, in Botucatu, São Paulo State, Brazil. At higher levels of NPK fertilization, the grain yield and macronutrient extraction and exportation of both cultivars were higher, but without statistical differences. Macronutrient absorption was higher in the treatments with 100 % of recommended NPK fertilization (average amounts per hectare: 140 kg N, 16.5 kg P, 120 kg K, 69 kg Ca, 17.9 kg Mg, and 16.3 kg S). Regardless of the treatment, the demand for N, P, K, Ca, and Mg was highest from 45 to 55 days after emergence (DAE), i.e., in the R7 stage (pod formation), while the highest S absorption rates were concentrated between 55 and 65 DAE. More than 70 % of P, between 58 and 69 % of N, 40 and 52 % of S, 40 and 48 % of K, and 35 and 45 % of Mg absorbed during the cycle was exported with grains, whereas less than 15 % of Ca was exported.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Prior work by members of our laboratory and others demonstrated that adenovirus serotype 30 (Ad30), a group D adenovirus, exhibited novel transduction characteristics compared to those of serotype 5 (Ad5, belonging to group C). While some serotype D adenoviruses bind to the coxsackie-adenovirus receptor (CAR), the ability of Ad30 fiber to bind CAR is unknown. We amplified and purified Ad30 and cloned the Ad30 fiber by overlap PCR. Alignment of Ad30 fiber with Ad3, Ad35, Ad5, Ad9, and Ad17 revealed that Ad30, like Ad9 and Ad17, has a shortened fiber sequence relative to that of Ad5. The knob region of fiber was 45% identical to that of the Ad5 knob regions. We made a chimeric recombinant virus (Ad5GFPf30) in which the Ad5 fiber (amino acids [aa]47 to 582) was replaced with Ad30 fiber sequences (aa 46 to 372), and CAR-mediated viral entry was determined on CAR-expressing Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. While CAR expression significantly increased Ad5GFP-mediated transduction in CHO cells (from 1 to 36%), it did not enhance Ad5GFPf30 gene transfer. Binding of radiolabeled Ad5GFPf30 or Ad30 wild-type virus was also not improved by the expression of CAR. These results suggest that Ad30 fiber is distinct from Ad5, Ad9, and Ad17 fibers in its inability to direct transduction via CAR.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The problem of determining the temperature fields and parameters of the stress-strain state in metal during processing in a casting and forging module is considered. The principle of operation of this device combines the crystallization of the metal melt and subsequent deformation into a given profile by ensuring the mobility of the walls of the mold. A mathematical model of material deformation is constructed taking into account friction and heat dissipation on the contact surfaces with the tooling. The material is supposed to be thermo-visco-plastic, with temperature-dependent properties. A difference numerical method for solving the problem is described. In computational experiments, fields of temperature, displacement velocities, stresses and deformations were obtained for the production of a strip of aluminum alloy AD0.

Abstract:
In this paper, a low-power and high-speed approximate divider using restoring array architecture has been proposed. Approximation is realized by replacing the subtractor/divider cells with the approximate subtractor/divider cells through the use of reduced gate level complexity. Four approximate divider architectures, namely, AD1, AD2, AD3, and AD4, have been proposed. The amount of approximation can be scaled by introducing the approximation factor and the proposed dividers have been analyzed for different values of approximation factor. The simulation results show that the proposed dividers AD1, AD2, AD3, and AD4, with approximation factor of 10 have achieved power reduction of 17%, 30%, 23%, and 37% respectively, when compared to the exact restoring divider. The proposed dividers have also been compared with the existing approximate restoring divider and shows signification reduction in power and delay. All the simulations are carried out using 180nm CMOS technology. The image processing applications, such as change detection and background removal, have been implemented using the proposed divider to show the feasibility of employing the approximate divider for real time applications. The simulation results prove that the approximate dividers have realized a feasible PSNR for the resultant images.

Abstract:
In order to obtain high-quality metal products with the desired properties (process stability) using the combined methods of metal casting and deformation, it is necessary to take into account the specific parameters of this process and the fact that the metal in the crystallizer stays simultaneously in several physical states: liquid, liquid-solid, solid-liquid and solid. Structurally, the mold consists of four walls moving relative each other along a given sophisticated trajectory. The object of the research is the production technology from non-ferrous alloys using the combined method of continuous casting and metal pressure treatment. The thermal processes occurring in the mold of a continuous horizontal metal casting and deformation installation (CHMCDI) during the formation of metal products have been examined as a research subject. The methods of physical modeling of the thermal processes which take place in the system “crystallizing metal-tool deformation” under different conditions of the mold cooling (using closed-perforated tubes and straight-flow tubes) have been used. Subsequent data processing of the full factorial experiment using the least square method as well as solving the optimization problem by using the Pareto principle of optimality made it possible to determine the optimal parameters for the process of obtaining metal products from aluminum alloys (TV = 40 oС; рv = 0.7 kg / cm2; SR = 5.8), which have been confirmed by the results of the experimental test on obtaining the strip from technical aluminum AD0 strip with a cross section of 40–12 mm.

Abstract:
In China, 1/5 of the total farmland area is Cd-enriched; the wide occurrence of Cd-contaminated soil in China has already posed significant public health risk and deserves immediate action. In situ immobilization has been regarded as one of the most promising agricultural extension-technologies for remediating low-to-medium levels of heavy metal contaminated land in China. Although extensive research has been conducted to examine the effectiveness of different amendments on remediation of Cd-contaminated soils, the influence of changed soil properties on secondary release of Cd from Cd-amendment to soil is rarely known. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of four soil amendments (denoted as Ad1, Ad2, Ad3 and Ad4, their main components being clay mineral, base mineral, humus and biochar, respectively) on reducing Cd availability and increasing Cd stability in soil. The maximum adsorption capacity of test amendments on Cd ranged from 7.47 to 17.67 mg g−1. The characterizations of test amendments before and after Cd loading provided the evidence that surface precipitation and ion exchange were the main reasons for Ad1 and Ad2 to adsorb Cd, and complexation was for Ad3 and Ad4. In addition, there was significant increase in the desorption percentages of Cd from amendments as pH decreased (from 7 to 1) or ion strength increased (from 0 to 0.2 M). Comparatively, Ad3 and Ad4 could be more effective for in situ immobilization of Cd in contaminated soils, due to their high adsorption capacities (12.82 and 17.67 mg g−1, respectively) and low desorption percentages (4.46–6.23%) at pH from 5 to 7 and ion strengths from 0.01 to 0.1 mol L−1. The results obtained in this study could provide a guideline for in-situ remediation of Cd polluted field-soil in China.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of a study of the temperature dependences of the shear elastic waves velocity of polycrystalline aluminum alloy AD0 in the temperature range from 20 °C to 45 °C. For the studied material the temperature dependence of the acoustic birefringence parameter characterizing the a shear ultrasonic wave splitting into two orthogonally polarized waves propagating at different velocities is determined. The calculation of the acoustic birefringence parameter was carried out according to the data of the propagation time precision measurement of shear elastic waves (the measurement error of the propagation time is 1-2 ns), polarized along and across the direction of rolling. Theoretical studies have shown that for materials with weak anisotropy, the temperature dependence of the acoustic birefringence parameter is mainly related to the influence of temperature on the elastic anisotropy of the crystals that make up the polycrystalline material and the characteristic of the crystallographic texture – the coefficient of the orientation distribution function W420. Corrections to the value of the birefringence parameter with temperature change are given. It was experimentally obtained that the acoustic birefringence parameter increases by 9% with increasing temperature, which must be taken into account by using it as a diagnostic parameter to evaluation changes in the characteristics of static and fatigue strength. An algorithm is proposed for estimating the prediction of the temperature dependence of the acoustic birefringence parameter of a single-phase material when the crystallographic texture changes as a result of plastic deformation, for example. A good coincidence of the predicted temperature dependence of the acoustic birefringence parameter with the experimental one was obtained – the deviation error of the calculated curve from the experimental one was 0.2–2% in the temperature range of 20 °С to 45 °С.

Abstract:
Background: The ladybird beetle Stethorus gilvifrons (Mulsant) is an important natural enemy of tetranychid mites and functions as a biological control of these plant pests. The development, survival and reproduction of S. gilvifrons were studied when fed on three artificial diets. The components of the artificial diet that S. gilvifrons could be reared successfully on for one generation with no use of tetranychid mites were examined. Methods: Artificial diets consisted of sucrose, honey, royal jelly, agar, yeast, date palm pollen supplemented in different diets with hen’s egg yolk (AD1, as basic diet), Ephestia kuehniella Zeller eggs (AD2), or E. kuehniella eggs and 2,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (AD3). Results: Adults and larvae of Stethorusgilvifrons fed on AD1 had a shorter immature development and preoviposition periods than those fed on AD2 and AD3. The total number of deposited eggs was significantly higher for the females fed on AD3 than on the other diets. The intrinsic rate of increase (r) of S. gilvifrons was highest on AD3, followed by AD2, and AD1. Conclusion: Stethorus gilvifrons performed best on AD3, indicating the potential of this artificial diet for the mass rearing of this important predatory ladybird beetle.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The common species C adenoviruses (serotypes Ad1, Ad2, Ad5, and Ad6) infect more than 80% of the human population early in life. Following primary infection, the virus can establish an asymptomatic persistent infection in which infectious virions are shed in feces for several years. The probable source of persistent virus is mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue, although the molecular details of persistence or latency of adenovirus are currently unknown. In this study, a sensitive real-time PCR assay was developed to quantitate species C adenovirus DNA in human tissues removed for routine tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy. Using this assay, species C DNA was detected in Ficoll-purified lymphocytes from 33 of 42 tissue specimens tested (79%). The levels varied from fewer than 10 to greater than 2 × 106 copies of the adenovirus genome/107 cells, depending on the donor. DNA from serotypes Ad1, Ad2, and Ad5 was detected, while the rarer serotype Ad6 was not. When analyzed as a function of donor age, the highest levels of adenovirus genomes were found among the youngest donors. Antibody-coated magnetic beads were used to purify lymphocytes into subpopulations and determine whether viral DNA could be enriched within any purified subpopulations. Separation of T cells (CD4/8- expressing and/or CD3-expressing cells) enriched viral DNA in each of nine donors tested. In contrast, B-cell purification (CD19-expressing cells) invariably depleted or eliminated viral DNA. Despite the frequent finding of significant quantities of adenovirus DNA in tonsil and adenoid tissues, infectious virus was rarely present, as measured by coculture with permissive cells. These findings suggest that human mucosal T lymphocytes may harbor species C adenoviruses in a quiescent, perhaps latent form.

Abstract:
Desert wheatgrass (Agropyron desertorum L.), tall wheatgrass (Agropyron elongatum L.), and crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum L.) are native cool-season grass species that exhibit potential as a low-input turfgrass. An increased understanding of the biochemical and physiological responses of wheatgrass species and genotypes to salt stress conditions is important for developing genotypes with enhanced tolerance to salinity. The objective of this study was to characterize the physiological and antioxidative properties in 20 Iranian wheatgrass genotypes and to observe their responses to salinity stress during seed germination and seedling growth stage. A completely randomized factorial design was used with two types of factors, four levels of salinity (0, 50, 100, and 150 mm of NaCl), wheatgrass genotypes, and three replicates. In this experiment, the results demonstrated that salinity limits the germination of Iranian wheatgrass genotype seeds. The result of this study showed that among the wheatgrass genotypes, ‘AD1’, ‘AD3,’ ‘AC6’, and ‘FA’ took the shortest average time to germinate. Higher levels of final germination percentage (FGP) were observed in ‘AD2’, ‘AD3’, and ‘AE5’ under salinity stress than other genotypes throughout the experiment. During a prolonged period of study, ‘AD1’ had greater rate of germination (GR) than other genotypes. Out of the 21 genotypes, five genotypes (‘AD1’, ‘AD2’, ‘AD3’, ‘AE5’, and ‘FA’ genotypes) were in the range of “salinity tolerant genotypes” cluster. The ‘AD1’, ‘AD2’, ‘AD3’, ‘AE5’, and ‘FA’ genotypes generally performed better than other genotypes under salinity conditions, mainly through maintaining higher enzymatic activities such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) (EC 1.15.1.1), catalase (CAT) (EC 1.11.1.6), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) (EC 1.11.1.11) and peroxidase (POD) (EC 1.111.1.7), and nonenzymatic antioxidant activities by glutathione (GSH). The ‘AD1’, ‘AD2’, ‘AD3’, ‘AE5’, and ‘FA’ genotypes also had higher proline levels and more of total nonstructural carbohydrates (TNC) content, lower malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and lower hydrogen peroxide content (H2O2).

Abstract:
Mobilization of replication-deficient adenovirus vectors can lead to spread and shedding of the vector. Here we show that in cultured HepG2 cells wild-type (wt) adenoviruses of subgroup A (Ad12), B (Ad7, 11 and 16), C (Ad1, 2 and 5) and E (Ad4) can efficiently mobilize Ad5CMVluc, a ΔE1ΔE3-Ad5 vector carrying the firefly luciferase gene as reporter. In addition, we show that Ad5CMVluc can be propagated on Ad12E1-transformed human embryonic retinoblasts. This provides evidence that expression of the E1 region of Ad12 is sufficient for mobilizing ΔE1-Ad5-derived vectors. Thus, in therapeutic applications of replication-defective Ad vectors any active Ad infection is of potential concern, independent of the serotype involved. To prevent vector mobilization by wt Ads, new vectors should be developed in which essential functions such as the initiation of DNA replication and genome packaging are restricted.

Abstract:
The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of different compositions of poultry-based artificial diets on the biological and morphometric parameters of the almond moth, Ephestia cautella. Three artificial diets (ADs) were prepared, where the complete diet (AD1) consisted of a bird diet, poultry feed, brown wheat flour, glycerin, and brewer’s yeast. The other two tested diets were poultry-feed-deficient (AD2) and brewer’s yeast-deficient (AD3—control). The tested parameters were differences in the length and weight of eggs, larvae, and pupae, larval developmental duration, adult reproductive period, fecundity, and fertility. The results showed significant differences in larval developmental period, female longevity, life span, reproductive parameters, and morphometric measurements among the tested diets. The life span was distinctly longer (40.38 ± 0.81 days) when the larvae were reared on a poultry feed-deficient diet (AD2), while a shorter lifespan (29.93 ± 0.33 and 32.17 ± 0.61 days) was recorded when larvae were reared on a complete diet (AD1) and brewer’s yeast-deficient diet (AD3), respectively. The complete diet (AD1), composed of bird diet, poultry feed, brown wheat flour, glycerin, and brewer’s yeast with (2:2:2:1:1) ratios, resulted in the shortest larval and pupal duration and average life span, as well as the highest fertility percentage. The highest fecundity (eggs/female: 366.77 ± 9.61) was recorded on AD3, while fertility reached almost 100% on AD1. The sex ratio was recorded as equal for both diets AD1 and AD3, while a male-biased sex ratio was recorded for AD2. Similarly, the morphometric data showed increased weight and sizes of eggs, larvae, and pupae when provided with complete (AD1) and brewer’s yeast-deficient diets (AD3). The results signified the importance of poultry feed and brewer’s yeast in AD1 for the mass rearing of E. cautella.

Abstract:
Adenoviruses are promising vectors for human cancer gene therapy. However, the extensively used adenoviruses serotypes 2 and 5 (Ad2 and Ad5) from species C have a major disadvantage in being highly prevalent; thus, most adults have an immunity against the two viruses. Furthermore, the expression of coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptors for Ad2 and Ad5 varies in different cells. This study aims to identify adenovirus serotypes with specific tropism for endothelial cells and epithelial tumour cells. Comparison of the binding affinities of Ad31, Ad11, Ad5, Ad37, Ad4 and Ad41, belonging to species A–F, respectively, to established cell lines of hepatoma (HepG2), breast cancer (CAMA and MG7), prostatic cancer (DU145 and LNCaP) and laryngeal cancer (Hep2), as well as to endothelial cells (HMEC), was carried out by flow cytometric analysis. Ad11 from species B showed markedly higher binding affinity than Ad5 for the endothelial cell line and all carcinoma cell lines studied. Ad4 showed a specific binding affinity for hepatoma cells and laryneal carcinoma cells. The ability of Ad11, Ad4 and Ad5 to be expressed in hepatoma, breast cancer and endothelial cell lines was studied by immunostaining and 35S-labelling of viral proteins in infected cells. Ad11 and Ad4 manifested a higher proportion of infected cells and a higher degree of hexon expression than Ad5.

Abstract:
The tolerance of Acacia decurrens, an invasive species, was exploited pharmacologically in this study. Phytochemical screening revealed important secondary metabolites. Importantly, the assay shows that ethyl acetate and methanol fractions are sources of phytochemicals compared to the hexane and chloroform fractions. A bioassay-guided in vitro assay of the extracts led to the eventual isolation of four bioactive compounds by column chromatography, identification, and characterisation with the aid of GCMS, UV-Vis, FTIR, and NMR. The antimicrobial screening by disc diffusion assay revealed 22.2%, 44.4%, 66.7%, and 77.8% microbial inhibition by 2-methyl-octahydro-indene-4-carboxylic acid (AD1), 6-methyldecahydro-1H-phenanthren-9-one (AD2), 8-hydroxytetradecahydro-chrysene-1-carb aldehyde (AD3), and 8,9-dihydroxy-7-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-9,9a-hexahydro-1H,3H-2-thia-5a-aza cyclopenta[b]anthracen-6-one (AD4), respectively. Compounds AD3 and AD4 are the most potent antibacterial compounds against Gram-positive bacteria with MIC 12.5–6.25 μg/ml. Antioxidant study of the compounds assayed with DPPH and ABTS•+ revealed that compound (AD4) is the most efficient DPPH radical scavenger with IC50 30.07 ± 0.31 and ABTS•+ scavenging activity of 4363.2 ± 452.4 μmol of TE/gDW. This provides scientific information on four pharmacophores with phyto-antioxidants and antimicrobial potential, despite the classification of A. decurrens as a Category 2 invasive plant by the National Water Act.

Abstract:
Background Diaphragmatic fatigue causes respiratory failure, for which aminophylline has been used as therapy. Because the mechanism of action of aminophylline in reversing diaphragmatic fatigue is unclear, we used in vivo 31P magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) to determine the relation between diaphragmatic activation, force output, and aerobic metabolism. Methods Bilateral phrenic stimulation was used to pace the diaphragm in pentobarbital-anesthetized piglets (6-10 weeks old; n = 44). Esophageal and abdominal pressures were measured to calculate transdiaphragmatic pressure (Pdi) (Pdi = abdominal pressure-esophageal pressure) as an index of force output. Activation was determined by the amplitude of the compound action potential of the diaphragmatic electromyogram. Aerobic metabolism was assessed with a 31P MRS surface coil on the right hemidiaphragm with the animal in a 4.7-T magnet. The animals were divided into four groups based on aminophylline loading dose: saline, aminophylline 10 mg/kg (A10), aminophylline 20 mg/kg (A20), and aminophylline 40 mg/kg (A40). After aminophylline loading the diaphragm was paced for 25 min followed by a 10-min recovery. Results Aminophylline concentrations were 12.2 +/- 0.7, 21.9 +/- 2.4, and 44.9 +/- 3.6 mg/l in the A10, A20, and A40 groups, respectively. Compound action potential amplitude decreased in all groups by 30% after 25 min of pacing. Conversely, Pdi remained at 100 +/- 3% of the initial value after 5 min of pacing in the A40 group but decreased to 75 +/- 3% in the saline group. Pdi recovered completely (103 +/- 17%) in the A40 group but remained depressed (72 +/- 6%) in the saline group. Pdi values were intermediate in the A10 and A20 groups. MRS data revealed inadequate energy supply/demand ratio in the saline group such that the ratio of inorganic phosphate to phosphocreatine (Pi/PCr) increased to 1.01 +/- 0.09 after 5 min of pacing. Pi/PCr remained unchanged in the A40 group and was intermediate in the A10 and A20 groups. beta-Adenosine triphosphate and intracellular pH did not differ among groups or as a function of pacing. Diaphragmatic blood flow increased from a resting value of 35-60 to 300-410 ml.min-1 x 100 g-1 during pacing in all groups and was not affected by aminophylline dose. Conclusions Aminophylline, in a dose-dependent fashion, delays the onset of fatigue and improves recovery from fatigue. Delayed fatigue is associated with improved aerobic metabolism as reflected in a low Pi/PCr ratio.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Adenoviruses (Ad) show promise as a vector system for gene delivery in vivo. However, a major challenge in the development of Ad vectors is the circumvention of the host immune responses to Ad infection, including both the host cytotoxic T-cell response and the humoral response resulting in neutralizing antibodies. One method to circumvent the effect of neutralizing antibodies against an Ad vector is to use different Ad serotypes to deliver the transgene of interest. This approach has been demonstrated with Ad genomes of highly related members of subgroup C. However, it is not known whether an Ad5-based vector DNA molecule can be packaged into capsids of evolutionarily more divergent adenoviruses. The aim of these studies was to determine if capsids containing hexon proteins from other Ad subgroups could package the Ad5 genome. A genetic approach utilizing an Ad5 temperature-sensitive (ts) mutant with a mutation in the hexon protein was used. When grown at the nonpermissive temperature, Ad5 ts147 replicates normally, providing a source of Ad5 DNA for virus assembly, but does not produce virus particles due to the hexon protein mutation. Coinfection of Ad5 ts147 with a wild-type virus of other Ad serotypes (Ad3, Ad4, or Ad9), which supply functional hexon proteins, resulted in the pseudopackaging of the Ad5 DNA genome. Furthermore, the pseudopackaged Ad5 DNA virions obtained in the coinfections were infectious. Therefore, switching hexons did not impair the infectivity or uncoating process of the pseudopackaged virion. Since hexon protein is a major antigenic determinant of the Ad capsid, this approach may prove useful to reduce the antigenicity of therapeutic Ad vectors and allow repeated vector administration.

ABSTRACTAntivector immunity may limit the immunogenicity of adenovirus vector vaccines. We tested sera from individuals immunized with adenovirus type 4 and 7 (Ad4 and Ad7, respectively) vaccine or naturally infected with Ad4 for their ability to neutralize a panel of E1-deleted human and chimpanzee adenoviruses (ChAd). Small statistically significant increases in titers to ChAd63, ChAd3, human Ad35, and human Ad5 were observed. Neutralizing antibodies elicited by Ad4 infection or immunization results in a small amount of adenovirus cross-reactivity.

Abstract:
In this study, 15W40 engine oil and Safflower oil were blended at 10% (A10), 20% (A20), 50% (A50) ratios. A total of 5 lubrication oil samples were obtained by adding the samples of pure safflower oil (A100) and lubrication oil with no safflower (A0). Viscosity and density tests of A100, A50, A20, A10 and A0 samples were carried out. Wear diameter test was performed on a four-ball testing machine to examine wear and friction properties, and welding load test was performed to examine extreme pressure properties.
We also had a study in the safflower oil industry where it can be used as an engine oil additive, especially in internal combustion engines. Since safflower oil is of vegetable origin, its use in engine oils will be environmentally friendly.
As a result of the examinations, it was determined that as the safflower ratio in the samples increased, the performance increased in terms of viscosity under cold working conditions. When the wear and friction performance was evaluated, it was concluded that there was an improving performance in 15W40 engine oil in A10, A20 and A50 samples in which safflower was used as an additive. When these samples were evaluated in terms of performance, there was little variation between them. For this reason, it is concluded that when Safflower is used as an additive in general, it exhibits positive performance in wear and friction performance. Considering that bio-lubricants are environmentally friendly, it can be said that the A50 sample is the most suitable lubrication oil among the samples, since it contains more vegetable oil than other samples.
As a result of this study, it is seen that the use of Safflower oil as an additive in engine oil is a positive result in terms of improving and clean environment.

Abstract:
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of acorn diets on the composition of fatty acid (FA) and the intramuscular fat (IMF) content in Yuxi black pigs. Methods: Ninety Yuxi black pigs with similar body weight (99.60 ± 2.32 kg) were randomly divided into five groups. The control group was fed a basal diet, and the AD20, AD30, AD40, and AD50 groups were fed experimental diets which contained 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% acorns, respectively. The feeding experiment lasted for 120 days. Results: The results showed that compared with the control group, the content of SFA in longissimus dorsi and biceps femoris tissues in the AD30 group decreased by 8.57% and 20.10%, and the content of MUFA increased by 5.40% and 15.83%, respectively, while the PUFA content of biceps femoris increased by 5.40% (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the IMF content of the AD30 group was significantly higher than that of the control group in the longissimus dorsi and biceps femoris. In addition, the mRNA expression levels of the ATGL, PPARγ, and FABP4 genes in longissimus dorsi (p < 0.05) were up-regulated, and HSL were down-regulated (p < 0.05) in the AD30 group. In the biceps femoris of the AD30 group, it was observed that the expression levels of the ACC and FAS genes were up-regulated (p < 0.05), while HSL and ATGL genes were down-regulated (p < 0.05). Conclusions: These results demonstrated that the addition of appropriate amounts of acorn to the diet (a 30% acorn diet) could improve the nutritional value of pork.

Abstract:
Aim: This study aims to determine a printing material that has both elastic property and radiology equivalence close to the real aorta for simulation of endovascular stent-graft repair of aortic dissection. Background: With the rapid development of Three-Dimensional (3D) printing technology, a patient- specific 3D printed model is able to help surgeons to make a better treatment plan for Type B aortic dissection patients. However, the radiological properties of most 3D printing materials have not been well characterized. This study aims to investigate the appropriate materials for printing human aorta with mechanical and radiological properties similar to the real aortic Computed Tomography (CT) attenuation. Objective: Quantitative assessment of CT attenuation of different materials used in 3D printed models of aortic dissection for developing patient-specific 3D printed aorta models to simulate type B aortic dissection. Methods: A 25-mm length of aorta model was segmented from a patient’s image dataset with a diagnosis of type B aortic dissection. Four different elastic commercial 3D printing materials, namely Agilus A40 and A50, Visijet CE-NT A30 and A70 were selected and printed with different hardness. Totally four models were printed out and CT scanned twice on a 192-slice CT scanner using the standard aortic CT angiography protocol, with and without contrast inside the lumen. Five reference points with the Region Of Interest (ROI) of 1.77 mm2 were selected at the aortic wall, and intimal flap and their Hounsfield units (HU) were measured and compared with the CT attenuation of original CT images. The comparison between the patient’s aorta and models was performed through a paired-sample t-test to determine if there is any significant difference. Result: The mean CT attenuation of the aortic wall of the original CT images was 80.7 HU. Analysis of images without using contrast medium showed that the material of Agilus A50 produced the mean CT attenuation of 82.6 HU, which is similar to that of original CT images. The CT attenuation measured at images acquired with the other three materials was significantly lower than that of the original images (p<0.05). After adding contrast medium, Visijet CE-NT A30 had an average CT attenuation of 90.6 HU, which is close to that of the original images without a statistically significant difference (p>0.05). In contrast, the CT attenuation measured at images acquired with other three materials (Agilus A40, A50 and Visiject CE-NT A70) was 129 HU, 135 HU and 129.6 HU, respectively, which is significantly higher than that of original CT images (p<0.05). Conclusion: Both Visijet CE-NT and Agilus have tensile strength and elongation close to actual patient’s tissue properties producing similar CT attenuation. Visijet CE-NT A30 is considered the appropriate material for printing aorta to simulate contrast-enhanced CT imaging of type B aortic dissection. Due to the lack of body phantoms in the experiments, further research with the simulation of realistic anatomical body environment should be conducted.

Abstract:
An eight-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary andrographolide on the growth performance, antioxidant capacity in the liver, intestinal inflammatory response and microbiota of Monopterus albus. A total of 900 health fish (25.00 ± 0.15 g) were randomly divided into five groups: AD1 (the basal diet) as the control, and AD2, AD3, AD4 and AD5 groups, which were fed the basal diet supplemented with 75, 150, 225 and 300 mg/kg andrographolide, respectively. The results showed that compared with the control group, dietary andrographolide supplementation (1) significantly increased trypsin and lipase activities in the intestine, and increased the weight gain rate but not significantly; (2) significantly increased the levels of glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione (GSH) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and the content of in the liver; significantly decreased the contents of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA); remarkably upregulated the Nrf2, SOD1, GSTK and GSTO mRNA levels in the liver; downregulated the Keap1 mRNA level; (3) significantly increased the villi length and goblet cell numbers in the intestine, remarkably upregulated the Occludin mRNA level in the intestine, downregulated the Claudin-15 mRNA level; (4) remarkably upregulated the IL-10, TGF-β1 and TGF-β3 mRNA levels in the intestine; downregulated the IL-12β and TLR-3 mRNA levels; (5) significantly decreased the richness and diversity of the intestinal microbioma, increased the percentages of Fusobacteria and Firmicutes and significantly decreased the percentages of Cyanobacteria and Proteobacteria. In conclusion, these results showed that dietary low-dose andrographolide (75 and 150 mg/kg) promoted growth and antioxidant capacity, regulated the intestinal microbioma, enhanced intestinal physical and immune barrier function in rice field eel.
