Abstract:
Origen (about 185-254 AD) , an outstanding theologian and scholar who, after being banned from Alexandria, set up didaskaleion in Palestinian Caesarea. This term concerns not only the early Christian educational institution with a particular teaching and upbringing conception, but also the pointed by Adamantios thought stream. At his early educational stage Origen organised logic and dialectics classes. Next he lectured sciences, mainly mathematical ones. One important element of studies in didaskaleion was teaching ethics, based on the following four virtues: justice, prudence, moderation and courage. The scholar intended not so much to share theoretical knowledge about the quoted virtues but to help students shape their life policy based on them. The main subject touched upon by Adamantios was theology preceded by philosophy lectures. The echoes of the thought stream created in Origen’s School, in spite of the Scholar himself being condemned centuries later, have gone deeply into the ecclesial science and have borne fruit till today.

Abstract:
<p>With the exception of a biographical entry on Adamantios Korais (1748-1833) published in 1836 by the Hellenist G. R. L. de Sinner in Paris and of a university discourse by Professor Pericles Argyropoulos, published in 1850 in Athens, scholars and intellectuals in the newly founded kingdom of Greece had not included Korais among their research priorities. Eventually the academic foundations of research on Korais would be laid in the decade 1871-80. The Chiot merchants of Marseille in collaboration with a corresponding committee in Athens planned, among other manifestations honouring their compatriot Korais, the publication of his unpublished writings and his correspondence. The year 1881 saw the inauguration of the series <em>Posthumously found writings</em> with a volume edited by A. Mamoukas, who included a long biographical introduction. In 1885-6 Korais' correspondence was published by Professor N. Damalas. Earlier, in 1877, in Paris from among the ranks of the "Association pour l'encouragement des études grecques en France", neohellenists Brunet de Presle and the Marquis de Queux de Saint-Hilaire had published Korais' correspondence with the classicist Chardon de la Rochette during the French Revolution and with a number of other distinguished French philologists. In a separate edition they published his correspondence with the Swiss philosopher P. Prevost, and Queux de Saint-Hilaire translated and published in French in 1880 Korais' correspondence with the Precentor of Smyrna D. Lotos during the Revolutionary period. In 1889-90 the Greek journalist in Trieste, D. Therianos, published a three-volume biography of Korais, which represents the most important milestone in Korais studies during the nineteenth century. Among more partial approaches to Korais' life and work after Therianos, mention should be made of a critical study in 1903 by the diplomat scholar I. Gennadios, who called Damalas' edition of Korais' correspondence a shame for Greek letters. Although it was too early for nineteenth century authors to see Korais in the perspective of the European Enlightenment, they nevertheless have left important general synthetic works and prepared the ground for subsequent fuller editions of his correspondence.</p>

AbstractThis definitive history of the Greek Language Controversy shows how Greek's status as a prestige language galvanized a national movement attracting various ethnicities of the Millet-i rum. The status of classical Greek resonant in Adamantios Korais's katharévousa helped consolidate the Greek state. An alternate demoticist programme, anticipated by Katartzis, developed in the Ionian Islands, and formulated by Psycharis, took hold through the efforts of the Educational Demoticists. Standard Modern Greek is a synthesis of the two programmes—neither the phonologically puristic Romaika of Psycharis nor an archaizing Schriftsprache, it retains elements of both.

REFERENCES TO KORAIS AND HIS WORK IN THE ANGLO-SAXON WORLD<br /><br /><br />This paper presents some of the most significant references to Adamantios Korais in the Anglo-Saxon world of the late 18th century and the 19th. Through these references, readers may garner a view of the image that Western scholars had of the intellectual movement in Greece before the revolution of 1821, as well as gaining an idea of the opinion of Anglo-Saxon scholarly circles about Korais and his work. This evidence is of some importance because it gives us a more complete picture of the status Greek scholars in general and Korais in particular held outside of the Greek-speaking world of the period.<br /><br />GEORGE N. The distribution features of adamantans of С10-С14 composition and their role in petroleum genesis has been studied, the biomarkers, adamantine and its homologs identified in Absheron archipelago oils via the method of chromate-mass-spectrometry. The calculations by the chromato-mass-spectrometry data justified that the adamantine and its methyl-substituted compounds are located in the order of increase of their thermo-dynamic steadiness in the following way: 2-Mad > 1-Mad > 3-Mad > Ad, which, in its turn, justifies the genesis of adamantine in the oils via thermic transition of normal alkanes. A complex interpretation of geological-geochemical data allows to make conclusions on a probable bedding of oil sources rocks in deep depths (approximately 13 km or deeper) of South Caspian depression.

Abstract:
The ‘New Constitution’ for a Hellenic Republic, published in Vienna by Rigas Velestinlis in 1797, was modelled closely on the French republican constitution of 1793, and envisaged what is now called a ‘civic nation’ based on inclusiveness and the ‘Rights of Man’. Rigas was arrested by the Austrian authorities, handed over to the Ottomans, and executed the following year. The turn from ‘civic’ to ‘ethnic’ nationalism among Greeks in the years leading up to the successful Revolution of 1821 is marked in the work of the influential classical scholar and national ideologue Adamantios Korais (Koraes, or Coray). Lord Byron, visiting Greek lands between 1809 and 1811, saw evidence for the enthusiasm with which Rigas was remembered and Korais was revered by the Greeks he met, and one of his early published works is a piece of revolutionary doggerel that at the time was attributed to Rigas. Byron's later determination to exchange the ‘words’ of the poet for the ‘things’ achieved by a statesman and man of action can be traced back to these early experiences in Greece – as well as to his ambivalent admiration for the more moderate among the leaders of the Revolution in France.

Abstract:
<p>In 1823, shortly after the outbreak of the Greek Revolution, and in the context of a general attempt to gather support for the Greek cause, Adamantios Koraes wrote to Thomas Jefferson, whom he had met once in Paris, to request his advice on the founding of a Greek state. Although brief, the exchange between the two men provides a rare, if not unique, record of a founder's advice to an aspiring emulator. Koraes' role in Greek political and intellectual life, coupled with Jefferson's fame, have made the correspondence between the two men a source of some interest among Greek scholars, but Jefferson's advice has never been studied in the context of his broader political theory. This paper traces the history of the acquaintance of the two men and of their subsequent correspondence, and places Jefferson's recommendations in the context of his political thought. Written as it was with the benefit of a long life in politics and more than forty-five years of experience from the American founding, Jefferson's advice to Koraes provides a singular opportunity to assess his political ideas over time.</p>

(Molière, Kokkinakis, Skylitsis and the lithographer)</p><p>In response to Adamantios Korais's suggestion that Tartuffe should be translated into Modern Greek, Konstantinos Kokkinakis translated the play, had it printed in 1815 and sent a copy to Korais for his comments. Korais set out his opinion on the translation, with critical comments, in a long letter to Kokkinakis dated 5 September 1816. In 1851 Ioannis Isidoridis Skylitsis published his own translation of Tartuffe in Smyrna and after twenty years, in 1871, republished it in a reviewed form. Both in his prefatory notes and in his translation, Skylitsis repudiated Korais's condemnation of rhyming verse, and he also rejected Kokkinakis's decision to adhere as closely as possible to Moliere's words: instead, he followed the example of Konstantinos Oikonomos, who had made a free translation of L'Avare in 1816. However, in 1871's edition Skylitsis put as a frontispiece a fascimile lithograph of 1816's letter in honour of Korais's opinions despite the fact that he disagreed with them.</p>

Abstract:
W przypadku jednak nadużycia kompetencji państwa w kwestii sumienia i wyznania obywateli, chrześcijanin winien bardziej słuchać Boga.

Abstract:
During the fiscal, political, and social disorder caused by the Greek crisis, Greek cultural production has turned to obscure moments of Greek history, such as the Ottoman period, in an attempt to reframe dominant narratives. For Greek cultural politics, rejecting, or at least questioning the ancient past -- that was until now seen as the only valuable past -- is a way for Greek artists to reject Western perspectives on Greek culture and claim their own set of criteria by which to experience their national past. This aspect of the crisis, which is in some ways a renewed principle of historiographic judgment, inevitably presents itself in comparison to the highly influential Enlightenment philosophy of metakénosis. A term coined by Adamantios Korais (1748-1833), metakénosis referred to the transfer of the ideas of European liberal humanism through translation into Modern Greek, while dismissing Eastern influences in Greek culture. European thought of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries was assumed by Korais to be based on classic Greek ideals, and its re-translation into Greek was undertaken in earnest in order to inspire sentiments of national unity, confidence in Greek letters, and continuity with the classical past. For this proposed article, I examine Korais’s highly consequential principle and its legacy by looking at a recent scandal in the Greek theatre world, that of Jan Fabre’s short-lived appointment as artistic director of the Greek Festival in 2016. A large group of Greek theatre artists circulated a letter of protest in which they asked Fabre to resign. In their responses to Jan Fabre’s perceived appropriation of their festival, these artists seemed to be reversing the metakénosis model as they expressed their opposition to standards of cultural value imposed from abroad. The context of the crisis, as fiscal crisis, but also as a new paradigm of krisis as judgment, was instrumental in voicing this protest.

Abstract:
A widespread trend in Enlightenment studies is to emphasize the particular ‘national contexts’ within which key ideas were disseminated and appropriated during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This may be one way to read the three books under review: on one level they appear to look at how three emblematic figures of Modern Greek Enlightenment (Adamantios Korais, Iosipos Moisiodax, and Veniamin Lesvios) transmitted ideological and philosophical tenets of Western modernity to the non-Western context of a country under construction: nineteenth-century Greece. Yet there is much more at work here. On closer study, these books collectively take an important step by suggesting a reversal of perspectives. The desideratum is an approach that no longer considers the Modern Greek Enlightenment (roughly extending from 1760 to 1821) as an a priori peripheral and dependent movement, but rather as a vehicle for elaborating on aspects of the Enlightenment as a transcultural phenomenon. Seen in this light, the space of the Modern Greek Enlightenment is not primarily geographical or geopolitical, but cultural and intellectual. Owing to the fluidity of borders and the mobility of intellectual agents inherited from the Ottoman imperial structures, the impact of the Modern Greek Enlightenment stretches across a vast area from south-eastern Europe to Asia Minor and from Transylvania to Kydonies. Interestingly, the same is true of the ideological and religious opponent of Enlightenment intellectual constellations in the Balkan peninsula: Orthodox Neo-Palamism. This spread from Mount Athos to Romania, offering a competing version of transnationalism and illumination with roots in Hesychast theology, rather than in the West. The emerging tension tested the application of Enlightenment ideas in ways alien to the West and shaped the outlook of intellectuals who are perhaps little known, but who merit a unique place in the broadly construed canon of Enlightenment thought.

Abstract:
Plants can tolerate a wide range of soil temperature variations, but their development is affected when the soil undergoes higher or lower temperatures of certain extreme values. The aim of this study was to assess the soil temperature of two regions of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Daily measurements of soil temperature were taken at two weather stations, one in the municipality of Adamantina (soil classified as Podzolic, Dark Red Latosol, Eutrophic, moderate A, of sandy/medium texture) and another in the municipality Monte Alegre do Sul (soil classified as Red Yellow Podzolic, of fine sandy-clayey texture) within a period of 365 days. The experimental design was completely randomized, with the two municipalities being the treatments, and 12 repetitions determined by monthly averages. The soil temperature at a 3-cm depth in Adamantina reached values above 40°C, values not observed in Monte Alegre do Sul. At a 12-cm depth, there were no differences between the municipalities. In Monte Alegre do Sul, the recorded soil temperatures proved suitable for crops, with better use of organic matter by the soil and greater stability of surface temperature throughout the day compared to Adamantina. In Adamantina, however, the use of agronomic technology is required to ensure greater stability of surface temperature. The temperature throughout the year in the soil surface layer in the Adamantina region in the afternoon was higher than in the Monte Alegre do Sul region, a fact that implies the need of differentiated agronomic technology depending on the cultivation location.

Abstract:

Abstract:
✓ Surgical specimens of 104 craniopharyngiomas from 93 patients were reviewed and characterized histopathologically. They were found to have either a classic adamantinous or a squamous papillary structure. The clinical features of each group were then assessed. The frequently solid (50%), always uncalcified squamous papillary tumor type was found in one-third of the adult patients (≥ 20 years) but did not occur in children. It was associated with a good functional postoperative outcome (84.6%). There have been no cases of tumor recurrence in the squamous papillary group. However, in the group with the adamantinous type of craniopharyngioma, the recurrence rate was 13% in adult patients and 9% in children. When compared to the adult adamantinous cases, the incidence of visual deficits was lower in the squamous papillary group (75% vs. 84%) but the incidence of endocrine abnormalities was higher (75% vs. 52%). Thus, the preoperative, operative, and postoperative features of the two types of craniopharyngioma were found to be distinctly different in adults and children.

Abstract:
<p>Yannis Kokkonas, "A Playful Opuscule". The History of a Pamphlet written by Panagiotakis Kodrikas (1817)</p><p>In the second half of the 1810's, with the Greek national movement heading towards its peak, two members of the Greek intelligentsia, both living and working in Paris, namely Adamantios Korais and Panagiotakis Kodrikas, engaged in keen controversy. It started as a dispute on the correct written form of the Modern Greek language and on the valuation of persons and matters of the present and the past. This dispute, however, evolved in a mutual effort of moral annihilation, in which the two opponents' friends also participated. Due to the fact that the two sides circulated their ideas mainly through pamphlets, the conflict is known as the «battle of the pamphlets». This article attempts at first to define the actual dimensions of the dispute at its emergence, and to illustrate the circumstances and the manner in which it was publicly conducted and perceived; the article mainly examines, though, all matters touching the publication of one of Kodrika's pamphlets, written and published in 1817. This pamphlet's unique feature lies in that: it was being printed in Vienna in expense of the writer's friends, while the author himself —unaware of it— had a reviewed form of the pamphlet printed in Paris. The edition of Vienna was released in October 1817 and that of Paris the following month of the same year. The text was originally untitled; the Viennese editor misunderstood some data and took the initiative in adding a title attributing the text to the Greek students of Pisa. That allowed Korais' friends to accuse Kodrikas of immorally using a pseudonym and to claim that the reviewed Parisian edition was released after the passed-round denial of the students of Pisa, which means after January 1818. The manner in which the author's opponents took advantage of the misunderstanding was expected. What draws the attention though, lies in the fact that until today historians and bibliographers adopt Korais' friends' view concerning the particular matter, and consider Kodrikas as the responsible person for both editions, who was supposedly forced to release a reviewed and false-dated second edition in 1818 in order to ease the strong feeling with which his conscious attempt to attribute his text to the students of Pisa was met. The study is accompanied with an appendix featuring extracts of unpublished letters sent by Alexandras Patrinos from Livorno to his son in law Demetrios Postolakas in Vienna (they both were Kodrikas' friends and sponsors), as well as two —also unpublished— letters sent by Kodrikas to Postolakas, concerning the controversial pamphlet and his preparatory work on his main project titled Μελέτη της Κοινής Ελληνικής Διαλέκτου, the first volume of whic hwas published in Paris in the year 1818.</p>

BOKASHI ON SEEDLINGS OF Campomanesia adamantium (Cambess.) O. Berg: MORPHOMETRIC AND PHOTOCHEMICAL ASPECTS ABSTRACT: The Campomanesia adamantium (Cambess.) O. Therefore, it’s necessary ex situ cultivation; however, the studies in growth phase of seedlings of the species with use of biofertilisers are incipient. However, there isn’t information on adequate amount of this material for seedlings of the species. Thus, objective was to know the effect of bokashi on morphometric and photochemical aspects in C. adamantium seedlings. Five doses of bokashi (0.0, 5.0, 10.0, 15.0 and 20.0 g kg-1 soil), added in a Dystroferric Red Latosol, of clay texture, were evaluated. The experimental design was in randomized block, with four replicates, 20 seedlings per experimental unit. There was mortality of 100% of the seedlings produced with 20 g bokashi. Survival and Fv/F0 decreased as a function of increasing doses of bokashi. The maximum collar diameter was observed in seedlings cultivated in soil with addition of 6.48 g bokashi. There was growth of CML and LML with increasing doses of bokashi. The addition of bokashi favors the morphometric characteristics, but above 15 g bokashi is harmful in the production of C. adamantium seedlings. Abstract:
Abstract Essential oils, which may be extracted from several parts of plants, have different biological activities. The Brazilian Cerrado has a large variety of plants that yield essential oils, even though many have not been studied yet. Taking into account the biodiversity of this biome, this study aimed at evaluating the antiproliferative activity of essential oils extracted from three species of plants of the Cerrado in Goiás state: Campomanesia adamantium (Cambess.) O. Berg, Protium ovatum (Engl. in Mart.) and Cardiopetalum calophyllum (Schltdl.). Essential oils were extracted from both C. adamantium and C. calophyllum leaves and from P. ovatum leaves and green fruits by hydrodistillation carried out by a Clevenger-type apparatus. The chemical composition of the essential oils was determined by Gas Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The following major chemical constituents were identified in the essential oils under investigation: β-myrcene (62.00%), spathulenol (28.78%), germacrene-B (18.27%), β-caryophyllene oxide (16.40%), β-caryophyllene (14.00%), α-pinene (11.30%), viridiflorol (9.99%), limonene (7.30%) and (Z,E)-pharnesol (6.51%). The antiproliferative activity was evaluated in different human tumor cell lines: breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), cervical adenocarcinoma (HeLa) and glioblastoma (M059J). A normal human cell line was included (GM07492A, lung fibroblasts). Results showed that essential oils from C. adamantium leaves got the lowest values of IC50 in all strains of tumor cells under evaluation. They were significantly lower than the ones of the normal cell line, an evidence of selectivity. It is worth mentioning that this is the first report of the antiproliferative activity of essential oils from C. adamantium , P. ovatum and C. calophyllum against human tumor cells.

Abstract:
We describe a new species of Peirosauridae (Crocodyliformes, Mesoeucrocodylia), Montealtosuchus arrudacamposi gen. nov. et sp. nov., from the Late Cretaceous (Turonian-Santonian) strata of the Bauru Basin, Brazil. Montealtosuchus was found at the outskirts of Monte Alto County in reddish sandstones of the Adamantina Formation. This specimen is exquisitely preserved with skull, mandible, postcranial and exoskeletal elements in articulation that provides critical information of the anatomy of this group. The occurrence of Peirosauridae in the Adamantina Formation (Turonian-Santonian) widens the chronostratigraphic range of this Mesoeucrocodylia taxon in Brazil. Recent analysis suggests that the Peirosauridae is restricted to the Late Cretaceous deposits of South America.

Abstract:
(1) Background: Campomanesia adamantium is an endemic species of the Cerrado and this biome has been under threat by its constant degradation. The genetic diversity of C. adamantium was characterized using species-specific microsatellites in two different time periods and correlations of these parameters of genetic diversity with the land use and land cover data. (2) Methods: We used 10 microsatellite loci to analyze C. adamantium from five populations, collected in 2011 and 2017. Maps of land use and land cover of the collection sites in both years were generated and subsequently correlated with genetic diversity. (3) Results: No significant loss of genetic diversity was observed in the analyzed period and a positive inbreeding coefficient was observed in all populations. AMOVA and STRUCTURE showed that there is no population structure between years and populations. Significant Pearson correlations were observed in 2017 between parameters of genetic diversity and land use and land cover, with a positive correlation between expected heterozygosity and secondary vegetation, and a negative correlation between inbreeding coefficient and exposed soil. (4) Conclusions: There was no decline in genetic diversity from 2011 to 2017. The high rates of the inbreeding coefficient could lead, for the species, in the long run, to an inbreeding depression as the Cerrado fragmentation might cause a population bottleneck.

Abstract:
Numerous diseases are induced by free radicals via lipid peroxidation, protein peroxidation and DNA damage. It has been known that a variety of plant extracts have antioxidant activity to scavenge free radicals. Campomanesia adamantium (Myrtaceae) is a small tree with edible fruit, commonly known as “guavira” or “guabiroba-branca” that has been used in popular medicine as depurative anti-diarrhoeic, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic and to liver diseases. In this study, the antiradical activities of ethanol crude extract of the leaves from C. adamantium and the ethyl acetate and butanol fractions obtained by partition, were determined using DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical) and ORAC-FL (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) assays. The total phenol content in the samples was estimated by Folin Ciocalteau method (FCR). In an initial evaluation the ethanolic extract and the fractions ethyl acetate and butanol have shown levels of phenolic compounds between 15- 74 mg GAE/g in FCR assay, showed DPPH free-radical scavenging activity with SC50 in the range of 7.77-13.35 μg/mL and demonstrated antioxidant capacity between 2648-3502 μmol TE/g of extract and fractions in the ORAC-FL assay. HPLC-DAD and ESIMS analysis revealed were that the extract of the leaves of C. adamantium studied appears to contain flavonoids as major constituents, including isoquercetrin and quercetin that exhibit proven antioxidant activity.

Abstract:
The Campomanesia genus has several species with high diversity of uses. C. adamantium is one such species with high economic potential due to the varied potential uses of fruits and other plant parts. Like most native Cerrado species, there is a lack of agronomic information that will enable the start of commercial crops, in this regard the information on growth and development of plants and propagation of this species should be prioritized. Now, the information we have of the Campomanesia genus allows us to relate the reproductive period with high temperatures and the begining of rains, but could not find data in the literature about C. adamantium. For most species in this genus, the usual way propagation is via seeds is, therefore important to determine the period during which the embryos are more apt to produce a good seedling, period known how physiological maturity. The correlation of physiological maturity of seeds with fruits aspects are more practical and simple ways to guide the collection of seeds. For this species are correlated with the total soluble solids. For other species of the genus, as C. xanthocarpa is possible to correlate the maturity of seeds with the color of the epicarp. Existing assessments on the use of seeds in the spread of C. adamantium reporting low germination rates, unsatisfactory development of plants in the field beyond the sensitivity of drying and storage, characteristics of recalcitrant seeds. In literature data showed maintaining the viability of C. adamantium when seed water content is levels approaching 15% but with high sensitivity to storage. Biometrical characteristics of fruits and seeds are also important in the search for high-quality propagation material, in addition to providing important information about the genetic variability of populations and identification of species of the same genus. Just the high physiological quality of seeds is not guarantee for the success on seedling emergence, the environmental conditions during the germination process are essential to the seed and seedling behavior. Among these external conditions, temperature and substrate are worth mentioning, there are optimal temperatures and substrates for the performance of the germination process of plant species. Temperature affects speed, rate and uniformity of germination while the substrate is the physical medium in which the seed is inserted and has the important function of maintaining the proper conditions for germination. For C. adamantium has been reported the highest percentage of germination at relatively high temperatures, 25 ° C, with a lack of data on promising substrates. This material gathered important information about phenology and sexual propagation of Myrtaceae family species, specially to gabiroba.
