Abstract:
In today’s hybrid media environment, political representatives are expected to deliver their programmatic positions in multiple yet coherent versions. To synchronize these programmatic contents with an accelerated and fragmented media system, they are subjected to what I call ‘adaptation work’. Using ethnographic insights gathered at a party’s headquarter in the Austrian national parliament, the article shows that adaptation work happens in interaction between a digital infrastructure (intranet technology, specific documents) and a writing team (knowledge managers, staff advisers, assistants). This sociomaterial distribution enables practices for archiving and sharing internal knowledge on party positions as well as literary strategies of adjusting positions to different recipients and media. At the same time, adapted positions deliberately shade the internal infrastructure and experts involved in their preparation in order to present representatives as the ones to be held accountable for positions.

Abstract:
Helicobacter pylori is an important global human pathogen and there is growing evidence from PCR assays that contaminated drinking water might be a possible source of infection in some circumstances. There are no validated protocols for direct isolation but various culture media have been developed for possible environmental sampling. Our aim here was to investigate how inter-strain variation might affect the interpretation of results with such media. Two laboratory adapted reference strains and four recent clinical isolates were tested on four solid media and in ten liquid media. Considerable variation was found between strains in their ability to recover on the different media after stress exposure (suspension in sterile tap water). Generally, clinical isolates were less robust than the laboratory-adapted strains and, overall, the former required longer recovery times. Our findings highlighted the importance of using a range of isolates for evaluations, as examination of laboratory-adapted strains alone did not provide an accurate representation of the utility of media that may be used to recover H. pylori from water.

Abstract:
Current vehicular networks are developed upon commercial solutions based on cellular networks (CNs) or vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs), both present in numerous research proposals. Current approximations are not enough to cover the communication necessities of several applications at the same time, and they are not suitable for future vehicular pervasive services. The vehicular network presented in this paper fills the existent gap between solutions lacking in flexibility, mainly supported by an infrastructure deployment, and those highly local and distributed, such as sole-VANET approximations. In this manner, an overlay communication platform which can work over the CN basis has been designed and developed. This architecture is complemented by an additional support of an information system located at the infrastructure side. Moreover, since most of the information received from current notification services is not relevant for the driver, an additional subsystem has been devised to provide adapted information to users. This has been carried out by means of an ontology model which represents users' preferences and contextual information. Finally, using a whole prototype of the telematic platform, the performance of this interring process has been evaluated to point out its impact on the system operation.

Abstract:
A case of Wegener’s granulomatosis (WG) presenting with hearing loss and right facial nerve palsy is reported. The definitive diagnosis was based upon clinical data and serum cANCA and AECA detection. Early assessment of WG prevented surgical facial nerve decompression to treat a chronic otitis media complication. Immunosuppressive therapy with steroids, cyclophosphamide and methotrexate was required for relief of clinical symptoms and cANCA negativity as an expression of disease remission. The effectiveness of co-trimoxazole for preventing relapses of WG is discussed.

Abstract:
Escherichia coli ATCC 35218 growth response was evaluated after repetitive cultivation in stepwise increasing antimicrobial agent concentrations (potassium sorbate or sodium benzoate) to observe its adaptation process to high weak-acid concentrations. The effect of antimicrobial (potassium sorbate or sodium benzoate) concentration (0 to 7,000 ppm) was tested using laboratory media. Cells adapted at 1,000 ppm were inoculated in media containing the same concentration of the antimicrobial; after that, cells were transferred to media containing a higher concentration, followed by repetitive cultivations. In every case, viable cells were determined by surface plating every hour up to 48 h. Logarithmic representations of survival or growing fraction were modeled using the Gompertz equation. Adapted and nonadapted cells were analyzed for plasmid presence as well as phosphofructokinase and succinate dehydrogenase activity. Bacterial growth was observed after adaptation processes in media formulated up to 7,000 ppm of potassium sorbate or sodium benzoate. Analyses of variance demonstrated that no significant difference (P > 0.05) in lag time or growth rate was observed among adapted cells cultured in media containing the studied concentrations for each of the antimicrobials tested. These results suggest that E. coli can be adapted to high weak-acid concentrations if the exposure is performed under sublethal conditions. Furthermore, there was demonstrated inhibition of the enzymes phosphofructokinase and succinate dehydrogenase by action of sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate, respectively. E. coli adaptation to antimicrobial agents was not related to plasmid presence but appears to be due to other action mechanisms .

Abstract:
Increasing use of the internet by millennials is a phenomenon that needs to be adapted to. The advertising-marketing world is no exception. Responds to the phenomenon has been varying, for example there’s a new category for advertising media besides Above The Line and Below The Line; Through The Line Media. Through The Line occurred to define internet media which has the quality of both above the line and below the line medias. Another form of adaptation to this situation exists in the form of marketing strategies; that is viral marketing. Viral marketing is a strategy that is only relevant in internet media. This paper will try to explain the kind of impact made from this marketing strategy, and its effectiveness on millennial target audiences by using some case studies on the brand, Go-Jek.

Abstract:
Epidermis is the most outer layer of the skin and a physical barrier protecting the internal tissues from mechanical and environmental insults. The basal keratinocytes, which, through proliferation and differentiation, supply diverse cell types for epidermal homeostasis and injury repair. Sustainable culture of murine keratinocyte, however, is a major obstacle. Here we developed murine keratinocyte lines using low-Ca2+ (0.06 mM) keratinocyte serum-free medium (KSFM-Ca2+) without feeder cells. Cells derived in this condition could be subcultured for >70 passages. They displayed basal epithelial cell morphology and expressed keratin (Krt) 14, but lacked the epithelial-characteristic intercellular junctions. Moreover, these cells could be adapted to grow in the Defined-KSFM (DKSFM) media containing 0.15 mM Ca2+, and the adapted cells established tight- and adherens-junctions and exhibited increased Krt1/10 expression while retained subculture capacity. Global gene expression studies showed cells derived in KSFM-Ca2+ media had enriched stem/proliferation markers and cells adapted in DKSFM media had epithelial progenitor signatures. Correspondingly, KSFM-Ca2+-derived cells exhibited a remarkable capacity of clonal expansion, whereas DKSFM-adapted cells could differentiate to suprabasal epithelial cell types in 3-dimentional (3D) organoids. The generation of stem-like murine keratinocyte lines and the conversion of these cells to epithelial progenitors capable of terminal differentiation provide the critically needed resources for skin research.

Abstract:
In discussions about religious discourse in the media, the tension or discrepancy between the communicative secular and secularized language of contemporary media and the more hermetic and traditional language describing situations related to religious experience, i.e. the sacred is emphasized. This article is an attempt to answer the question of what the religious language of the media should be. The research problem is: is it to be adapted to the contemporary Polish language, taking into account the commonplace, or more archaic, theological, referring to biblical and cultural codes? When discussing the ways of transmitting religious content in the media, two elements should be taken into account: 1) religious language has always been and is the language of communication (proclamation), focused on lively contact with the recipient and caring for communication; to some extent always adapted to the recipient; contemporary media, which are rapidly developing themselves, speed up this adaptation process, but this process is part of the nature of the language; 2) the creators or the first teachers of great religions (excluding small esoteric religions) used spoken language, close to colloquial language, understandable, adapted to the audience (their teaching or revelation was written later); they, too, are a model of inculturation that religious language continues to undergo, without giving up their specificity and sacredness. It should be mentioned that the research questions posed in this article concern only the religious language of media messages, not the language of official religious communication. This article uses the research method based on a critical analysis of the scientific discourse on religious language in the media studies literature from 1998-2020, combined with the presentation of own proposals in this area.

Abstract:
Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a ubiquitous gram-negative enteropathogenic bacterium. To evaluate the risk of stress-adapted V. parahaemolyticus cells in food, we investigated the survivability of starvation-adapted and starvation-low salinity–adapted cells of this pathogen in different media against different stresses. Logarithmically grown bacterial cells were starved at 25°C in a minimal salt medium with 0.5 or 3.0% NaCl for 24 h. Resistances against challenges of heat, acid, and freeze-thaw treatment exhibited by the starvation-adapted cells were similar to those exhibited by the starvation-low salinity–adapted cells but substantially higher than those of the unadapted control cells. The increased stress resistance of the adapted cells against freeze-thaw challenge was lower in tryptic soy broth than in the starving medium. Resistance of the adapted bacteria against heat and freeze-thaw treatment was completely eliminated in filter-sterilized oyster homogenate medium. Practically, these results help to assess the risk of stress-adapted V. parahaemolyticus in food.

Abstract:
1. The inhibitory effects of inorganic and organic sulphur-containing compounds, copper and tungsten on nitrate reduction by mixed rumen micro-organisms were investigated in two in vitro studies.2. Coarsely strained rumen fluid from nitrate-adapted (Expt 1) or non-adapted (Expt 2) Suffolk Down wethers maintained on lucerne (Medicago sativa) cubes was used as an inoculum. In Expt 1, anaerobic incubation was carried out for 24 h for each medium supplemented with 10 mM-sodium nitrate and the following chemicals: 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 and 10 mM-sodium sulphide, 1 and 10 mM-sodium sulphite, 1 and 10 mM-sodium sulphate, 1 and 10 mM-L-cysteine, 1 and 10 mM-DL-methionine, 1 mM-sodium tungstate and I mM-copper sulphate. In Expt 2, 1 and 10 mM-Na2S, 1 and 10 mM-L-cysteine, 1 mM-Na2WO4, and 1 mM-CuSO4were added to incubation media to test for chemical inhibition of microbial reduction of nitrate.3. In Expt 1, the amount of nitrite formed decreased with increasing concentration of sulphide-S added. The additions of L-cysteine, W and Cu suppressed nitrite formation in media from both nitrate-adapted and non-adapted sheep.4. In contrast to the effects of sulphide, L-cysteine and W counteracted, to some degree, nitrate-induced reduction of volatile fatty acid (VFA) production. Addition of Cu to the media resulted in a further depression of VFA production.

Abstract:
The developments of new technologies, new scientific initiatives and a new globalized market are giving rise to new forms of collaboration, referred to as mass collaboration. This phenomenon is mainly derived from communities and self-organization, and is based on Web 2.0 technologies, services and tools. This new form of collaboration and technologies are giving rise of emergent social software platforms (ESSP’s) that are adopted by firms worldwide. The main aim of this research is to understand how firms are using such new technologies and collaborative efforts to assist knowledge sharing to achieve objectified knowledge. Central to this research is the proposed knowledge sharing cycle model, which has three main stages - internalization, externalization, and objectification. This model is adapted based on the findings of a case study of internal social media strategy of IBM Corporation. The findings indicate that ESSP’s can be used to support knowledge sharing practices and to help convert knowledge into its different forms in enhancing knowledge acquisition.

Abstract:
Introduction: Otitis media is one of the most prevalent childhood diseases. The impact of otitis media on quality of life of Portuguese children is unknown, because of the unavailability of a tool validated in European Portuguese to assess this consequence of otitis media. The Otitis Media-6 questionnaire (Otitis Media-6) is the most frequently used tool to assess health-related quality of life in children with otitis media. This study aims to create a version in the Portuguese language and culturally adapted to Portugal of the otitis media-6 questionnaire.Material and Methods: The Otitis Media-6 questionnaire was translated and culturally adapted to the Portuguese language and population. Then, to assess the instrument psychometric properties, it was applied to a sample of Portuguese children with chronic otitis media with effusion or recurrent acute otitis media. Results: The Portuguese version of Otitis Media-6 questionnaire demonstrated the following psychometric properties: constructvalidity for baseline (rs = 0.98) and change scores (rs = 0.97), internal consistency (α = 0.780), test-retest reliability (rs = 0.89) and responsiveness to clinical change (t(59) = 10.104).Discussion: The simplicity and brevity of application of the instrument make it ideal for use in research and in clinical practice, enabling a more objective assessment of the extension of the otitis media impact in children quality of life and a more targeted therapeutic decision. Conclusion: The Portuguese version of the Otitis Media-6 questionnaire is a valid, reliable and sensitive instrument to evaluate the health-related quality of life in Portuguese children with otitis media.

Importantly, the gradual adaptation of S2R+ and Kc167 cells to a media lacking serum was supported by supplementing the media with adult Drosophila soluble extract, commonly known as fly extract. The utility of these adapted cells lines is largely unchanged. The adapted cells exhibited robust proliferative capacity and a transfection efficiency that was comparable to control cells cultured in serum-containing media. Transcriptomic data indicated that the S2R+ cells cultured with fly extract retain their hemocyte-specific transcriptome profile, and there were no global changes in the transcriptional output of cell signaling pathways. Our metabolome studies indicate that there were very limited metabolic changes. In fact, the cells were likely experiencing less oxidative stress when cultured in the serum-free media supplemented with fly extract. Overall, the Drosophila cell culture conditions reported here consequently provide researchers with an alternative and physiologically relevant resource to address cell biological research questions.

Abstract:
This study aims to describe the implementation of Telegram application as a teaching media in teaching English and to know students’ perceptions toward this implementation. Using case study as research design, the teacher who used Telegram as teaching media in English teaching and 2 students who are taught by this teaching media were being participants in this qualitative study. The observation checklist form adapted from Lubis (2018) and the interview guidelines adapted from Chorida (2017) was used to gain the data. To reach the objective of the study, the researcher conducted online observation and interviews with those participants. The finding shows that the implementation of Telegram at SMKN 4 Malang can give positive impact in English language teaching. The use of Telegram facilitates students to autonomously learn. It is due to all of the materials needed by students are already provided with clear instructions by the English teacher in one of its features called Bot API. Related to the student responses in using Telegram application, students are pretty attractive to use this Telegram application as the teaching media. Therefore, it is suggested to English teachers to implement Telegram application as one of teaching media in delivering materials.

Game already became common media in any society. It’s ideas could be from anywhere. This example is proven in game titled Woman in White. Adapted from Wilkie Collin’s sensational novel. Mr Collin’s novel in similar title was very popular then, though after one hundred and fifty years already adapted dan raised into newer meaning. This new meaning of ‘Woman in White’ makes the game became new media design and still entertains its audiens. This study, try to analize similar aspect in novel that used in this game as formal or non-formal assets, using visual semiotics. Precisely using classic theory from Saussure, Peirce and Barthes. The results of the analysis aim to show that a game designed based on novel inspiration or a popular story needs to remain true to the story even though this media does not have a full story telling. Keywords: game; puzzle; semiotics; urban legends

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Thermotolerant microorganisms are useful for high-temperature fermentation. Several thermally adapted strains were previously obtained from Acetobacter pasteurianus in a nutrient-rich culture medium, while these adapted strains could not grow well at high temperature in the nutrient-poor practical culture medium, “rice moromi.” In this study, A. pasteurianus K-1034 originally capable of performing acetic acid fermentation in rice moromi was thermally adapted by experimental evolution using a “pseudo” rice moromi culture. The adapted strains thus obtained were confirmed to grow well in such the nutrient-poor media in flask or jar-fermentor culture up to 40 or 39 °C; the mutation sites of the strains were also determined. The high-temperature fermentation ability was also shown to be comparable with a low-nutrient adapted strain previously obtained. Using the practical fermentation system, “Acetofermenter,” acetic acid production was compared in the moromi culture; the results showed that the adapted strains efficiently perform practical vinegar production under high-temperature conditions.

Abstract:
This article describes and analyses a collaborative project that combines service-learning and community engagement (SLCE) objectives and goals with anthropological commitments to support an Indigenous filmmaking collective media centre in one Mẽbêngôkre-Kayapó community, Brazil. We adapted curricular designs already in place in SLCE semester-long or summer abroad programs to incorporate decolonizing methodologies and symmetrical anthropological approaches to co-create media centre design recommendations for community partners. We designed the project to provide opportunities in which partners could critically engage with histories of mis/representation of Indigenous Peoples, dialogically learn about diverse cultural worldviews and ontologies, and confront stereotypes that are commonly associated with Indigenous Peoples engagement with technologies. We discuss how this work influenced how initial design recommendations for the media centre and collective. We conclude by reflecting on this projects’ approach to community-based projects and the synergistic outcomes and tensions that can result from co-creating transdisciplinary projects centred on addressing sovereignty and activism. Finally, we suggest that supporting digital activism and media sovereignty relies on fortifying relational networks of collaboration and respect.

Abstract:
Since the appearance of television, the death of the radio has been expected. However, despite all the threats it is still alive and has seen an increase in audiences in a hostile scenario for a centennial media. Reality shows that the radio has transformed its weaknesses into strengths and has adapted to the new ecosystem faster than any other media. The reasons for this quick and successful adaptation are related to the simplicity of the support and to its unisensorial language, but also to an unprecedented capacity of adaptation to new situations. This work identifies the characteristics that makes radio a survivor and analyzes the way in which the radio adapted itself to the new ecosystem, illustrating each case with examples from Portuguese radios.

Abstract:
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a drastic change in the 2020-2021 residency application cycle, limiting how programs interact with applicants. Objective: To describe how dermatology residency programs have adapted by developing social media platforms and virtual opportunities. Methods: A list of participating programs was obtained from the Electronic Residency Application Service. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and websites were reviewed for virtual opportunities. The Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) and the Dermatology Interest Group Association (DIGA) website were reviewed for virtual opportunities. Results: Of the 133 programs, 74 social media accounts were created. Twenty-two programs have Twitter, 27 have Instagram, and 25 have Facebook accounts. Virtual open houses were advertised on 27 program webpages. Eight virtual sub-internships were on VSAS. Eighty virtual meet and greets and 27 virtual electives were advertised on the DIGA website. Limitations: Considering the ongoing application cycle and the growth of social media usage, the numbers presented may not represent the numbers on the date of publication. Conclusion: Dermatology residency programs have adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic by developing social media platforms and virtual opportunities. There is an underutilization of social media by programs. Programs are working with the DIGA to distribute information about virtual opportunities.

Abstract:
Low social awareness of disability issues maintains discriminatory attitudes in society and does not contribute to improving the position of persons with disabilities. The media play a significant role in this because they produce new or reproduce existing meanings through representation. The media represent different identities and act as a forum for the social construction of reality, they construct and reproduce the social definition of disability. A highly discriminatory society is the main reason for the difficult life of people with disabilities, but objective media coverage of the topic of disability and persons with disabilities can improve this situation. Such reporting would contribute to changing the stereotypical attitudes towards which a person with a disability is viewed as one who needs help and pity, without considering physical and cultural barriers created in society. If living conditions were adapted to people with disabilities to the extent that they were adapted to all other persons, the quality of life of persons with disabilities would be significantly improved. In the research conducted for the purposes of this paper, we came to the conclusion that print media in Serbia do not devote sufficient space to the topic of disability, and generally report stereotypically.

Judging from the number of its theatrical adaptations and the countries in which it was adapted, Anna Bonacci'sL'ora della fantasia(The Fantasy Hour) was indeed “the most successful Italian comedy of the postwar era.” After its 1944 premiere in Rome, the play was performed again in Geneva in 1949 and in Paris in 1953 under the titleL'Heure éblouissante(The Dazzling Hour). The enormous success the play received in Switzerland and France opened the way in the 1950s to numerous stagings worldwide, from Lisbon and Stockholm to Amsterdam and Mexico City.L'ora della fantasiahas also been adapted for other media, including a musical, a film, and a television film. In fact, one of its film adaptations, Billy Wilder's 1964Kiss Me, Stupid, has proved to be so well known that Bonacci's comedy is now often presented on the Italian stage asBaciami stupido!, and is sometimes even set in Climax, Nevada, the location Wilder used in his film.

The Lagrange manifold (WKB) formalism enables the determination of the asymptotic series solution of linear differential equations modelling wave propagation in spatially inhomogeneous media at caustic (turning) points. Here the formalism is adapted to determine a class of asymptotic solutions at caustic points for those equations modelling wave propagation in media with both spatial and temporal inhomogeneities. The analogous Schrodinger equation is also considered.

Along with the rapid growth of modern social media, it can be recognized that these platforms influence social standards. Showing women on social media can indicate how others treat them in real life. This article examines the emergence of sociocultural ideas about feminіnіtу images in the context of social network media. The research is based on the concept of social drama by I. Abstract:
The bulk loss function Im(-l/ε (ω)), a well established tool for the interpretation of valence loss spectra, is being progressively adapted to the wide variety of inhomogeneous samples of interest to the electron microscopist. Proportionality between n, the local valence electron density, and ε-1 (Sellmeyer's equation) has sometimes been assumed but may not be valid even in homogeneous samples. Figs. 1 and 2 show the experimentally measured bulk loss functions for three pure silicates of different specific gravity ρ - quartz (ρ = 2.66), coesite (ρ = 2.93) and a zeolite (ρ = 1.79). Clearly, despite the substantial differences in density, the shift of the prominent loss peak is very small and far less than that predicted by scaling e for quartz with Sellmeyer's equation or even the somewhat smaller shift given by the Clausius-Mossotti (CM) relation which assumes proportionality between n (or ρ in this case) and (ε - 1)/(ε + 2). Both theories overestimate the rise in the peak height for coesite and underestimate the increase at high energies.
