Abstract:

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to study the adaptation process of the TV-show Game of Thrones. This paper focuses mainly on how David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and HBO adapted the TV-show from George R.R. Martins book series A Song of Ice and Fire and what, in the adaptation and in the reception of the TV-show, made it such a global cultural phenomenon. The analysis has been done by analysing interviews and studying behind-the-scenes material that has been available through articles and bonus material provided by the web and on the DVD and Blu-Ray features of the show. Mary H. Snyders Analyzing Literature-to-Film Adaptations provides a ground tool of analysing adaptations where particularly her “A Marriage of Media” theory has significantly helped the study. The paper analyses fantasy as a genre, the book series that the TV-show is based on, and the adaptation process itself and the different components that make up for the TV-show called Game of Thrones. After the adaptation analysis there is a study on how the internet has helped distributing both the show’s popularity and the show itself through the use of illegal downloading. The result is that the adaption is a successful “Marriage between media”, to use Snyders words, where the internet can be seen as product of that metaphorical marriage. The confidence and trust that both the author of the books and the show runners of the TV-series has placed in each other is the binding fundament that made the adaption as successful as it is. HBO as a cable network company also play a significant part where the financial support to the show’s production and the non-existent censorship regarding the adult content otherwise wouldn’t have been provided for, had the show been produced and/or aired by any other network company for example. The previous successes of other fantasy adaptations such as The Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter-series could also be seen as necessary initiators regarding the industry’s newfound openness towards large scale fantasy projects.

Radhi, Yasser.

Abstract:

In area of Smart-home control, there are requirements for miniaturisation, security and advanced control logic of individual member of system at present. One of the challenges is the way of data collecting from terminal nodes and data processing, including their distribution to the others nodes of Smart-home. The goal of this thesis is to design and to produce Smart-home control node, which will be a gateway between sensoric net and database and will be developed and produced on embedded system with speci c HW boards. Functionality of this gateway should include error states, e.g. should cache sensor messages when the connection between gateway and server interrupts, or take care about time synchronising. The thesis describes theoretical side of gateway design and also practical side of programming and producing SW for the gateway in Smart-home system.

The adaptor complex 1 (AP-1) acts in the formation of clathrin-coated vesicles at the transGolgi network of eukaryotic cells. Knowledge about the AP-1 complex in trypanosomatids is scarce, but it has been already demonstrated its importance in the infectivity of Leishmania mexicana in macrophages, as well as the viability of Trypanosoma brucei. Trypanosoma cruzi is a protozoan flagellate that belongs to the family Trypanosomatidae, being the etiologic agent of Chagas disease, which affects millions of people worldwide. In this context, this study aimed to identify the genes encoding the four subunits of the AP-1 complex in the genome of T. cruzi and analyze their expression and subcellular localization in this parasite. Search in genomic database identified gene sequences coding for all subunits of the AP-1 complex, the following accession numbers being obtained: AP1-γ: XP_818958.1; AP1-β: XP_820334.1; AP1-µ: XP_818899 .1; AP1-σ: XP_804127.1. Antibodies were produced in mice against recombinant proteins of all subunits of the AP-1 complex. Analysis of the specificity of the antibodies was performed by western blot and subcellular localization of the proteins by immunofluorescence was done by epifluorescence microscopy and confocal laser microscopy. Negative results were obtained with the antiserum against subunit AP1-σ. Antibodies raised against the AP1-µ (polyclonal) and AP1-β (monoclonal) subunits recognized polypeptides with size compatible to the molecular weight of the endogenous protein in extracts from epimastigotes, but no proteins could be localized by fluorescence microscopy. The antiserum polyclonal obtained against the AP1-γ subunit recognized a polypeptide in extracts of different evolutionary forms of T. cruzi (epimastigotes, trypomastigotes and amastigotes) of molecular weight consistent with that predicted in database (~90 kDa). Immunolocalization showed punctual positive reaction in the region compatible with the Golgi complex of this protozoan: between nucleus and kinetoplast of trypomastigotes and between kinetoplast and flagellar pocket of epimastigotes and amastigotes. Colocalization of AP1-γ with the GTPase Rab7 (a marker of the Golgi complex in T. cruzi) confirmed the location of this subunit in the Golgi apparatus of this parasite. Our results demonstrate that the subunits of the AP-1 complex are conserved and expressed in T. cruzi and that at least the AP1-γ subunit has cellular localization in the Golgi apparatus, similar to that described in other eukaryotic cells.

Abstract:
This thesis work had the intention to acoording to the processes of Motion Control develop a prototype of a wireless cable replacer for an existing product, USB I/O. USB I/O is an I/O and data collection unit with a number of in- and outputs. It has in some applications the drawback that it is connected through a USB cable. The idea for the work was to create a unit to connect to USB I/O which has the capability to connect to any existing “Bluetooth dongle” on the market.Three investigations were made. The first was a market investigation to see potential system solutions and to find out any direct competitors. It showed that the existing market did not offer any large number of active similar products. After this, two investigations were made to find suitable components for the prototype. Half way in the thesis it came obvious that whichever Bluetooth module that could be chosen, a Bluetooth profile, HID, was needed and had to be modified in order to use the conventional “Bluetooth dongles”. This would make a great cost or effort in development time than the scope of the thesis work allowed. From this, a decision was made to also include development of an additional unit to connect to the computer side, which then would replace the “dongle”.The thesis resulted in a prototype consisting of two subsystems, however in need of further development, offering partly the intended functionality. The USB I/O could be started up on a computer wirelessly using the system.

Abstract:
We consider open systems being described by an interface and behavior in form of an protocol. Interaction between open systems means exchange of messages. For the interaction to be correct, the interacting open systems must be able to terminate. The interaction of independently developed open systems is not guaranteed to be correct. Although one open system provides functionality a second open system requires, incompatiblities of the interfaces or the behavior may prevent the correct exchange of messages. The idea is to introduce an adapter to overcome the incompatiblities. We present a technique that considers incompatiblities of the interfaces and the behavior separately. With transformation rules we specify how messages of two open systems relate to each other. Using these rules we model the data flow between open systems and overcome incompatiblities of the interfaces. By using existing techniques for controller synthesis we overcome incompatiblities of the behavior. Thus we create correct control flow. We call the composition of transformation rules and controller an adapter. Based on the technique presented in this thesis, we want to answer the following reseach questions: - What are the properties of the proposed technique? When does an adapter exist? How can we apply the technique on open, communicating systems in general? - How do we distribute a generated adapter to different components? - Which information can we provide, if adapter synthesis fails? - How can we discover a formal model of an adapter, when we only have recorded behavior of open systems, but no formal models?

Abstract:
This thesis explores how a phone app and an infrared remote control can be used at the same time in order to control air conditioners. It introduces the concept of a universal adapter able to recognize a command from an air conditioner's remote control in order to update the phone app. This project extends prior work on universal devices focusing on infrared communication by examining the relationship between the different infrared protocols used for air conditioners from different manufacturers. This thesis proposes a model of a universal infrared adapter. This adapter is able to recognize a command from an air conditioner's remote control if this one is registered in the database. If not, the adapter can also learn the different commands of the new remote control and save it in the database. A sample of 4 air conditioners from 4 different manufacturers has been tested for this thesis. With a comparative case analysis, this research explored the role of the position and the size of a setting in the infrared message. The findings from the research illustrate how the different manufacturers are encoding infrared commands. It also show that the impact of the size of the message and the amount of data on the analysis of the data is more complex than previously thought. As predicted, similarities has been found between protocols, allowing the adapter to look for information in specific parts of an infrared message or learn the information from an unknown remote control. The findings provide support for the key arguments and support the prediction that there are similarities between the infrared protocols for air conditioners, allowing the creation of a universal adapter.

This study aimed to find out how the Adapted Physical Education curriculum subject or similar has appeared in undergraduate and graduate / undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Sport in the three public state universities of São Paulo, and makes interaction with other disciplines the curriculum. The research is of qualitative character and used as techniques to collect the survey data source document via the Internet by consulting the website of the Ministry of Education (MEC): the link: http://emec.mec.gov.br/ and semi structured interview. The documents were collected: curricula and syllabus of the course. In the analysis of documents provided much of the public and private institutions found that, as the nomenclature, the discipline has performed with similar classifications in some private institutions, and differently in public and private institutions within the proposed undergraduate and graduate / undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Sport. Regarding the analysis of interviews with teachers, we could analyze the characterization of the discipline with a nomenclature that identifies and a lack of consensus on the content taught and the mainstream reports about the strategies of education, with emphasis on the university extension. In the matter of the curriculum was found that there is a lack of interaction between the discipline and others. As for training, intervention and preparation for the labor market participants had a concern with the need to prepare students with diverse profiles. Within this context, we consider that there is a need to think of practical content in the absorption of supervised training, training courses and graduate courses similar to medical residency. Abstract:
The dissertation presents the work done under the scope of the NP7 Self-Learning project regarding the design and development of the Adapter component as a foundation for the Self-Learning Production Systems (SLPS). This component is responsible to confer additional proprieties to production systems such as lifecycle learning, optimization of process parameters and, above all, adaptation to different production contexts. Therefore, the SLPS will be an evolvable system capable to self-adapt and learn in response to dynamic contextual changes in manufacturing production process in which it operates. The key assumption is that a deeper use of data mining and machine learning techniques to process the huge amount of data generated during the production activities will allow adaptation and enhancement of control and other manufacturing production activities such as energy use optimization and maintenance. In this scenario, the SLPS Adapter acts as a doer and is responsible for dynamically adapting the manufacturing production system parameters according to changing manufacturing production contexts and, most important, according to the history of the manufacturing production process acquired during SLPS run time.To do this, a Learning Module has been also developed and embedded into the SLPS Adapter. The SLPS Learning Module represents the processing unit of the SLPS Adapter and is responsible to deliver Self-learning capabilities relying on data mining and operator’s feedback to up-date the execution of adaptation and context extraction at run time. Abstract:
This report is a part of the Master thesis project conducted by Mattias Hovebro at Syntronic R&D Stockholm Sweden. The goal was to evaluate dierent sensors and interfaces that can be of use when developing an sensor adapter card for the Midrange platform. The evaluation focused on sensors suitable for fast prototyping and demonstration purpose. After the evaluation the adapter card was produced along with associated software that can demonstrate its functionality. The sensors implemented was chosen from a six week long pre-study where a number of interfaces and sensor was researched. The results from the pre-study was discussed with the R&D department of Syntronic AB. During the meeting the most desired functions were ranked and the method of implementation were chosen, and was later approved by the examiner. The most desired functions was based on the potential future needs of the R&D department. The nal adapter card utilizes three sensors. Together these sensors can measure ambient light, proximity, temperature and acceleration. The adapter card was produced at Royal Institute of Science in cooperation with the Examiner. Functions to operate the sensors, such as read/write operations and also conguration functions for each of the sensors, was produced along with documentation for Syntronic. Even though these functions was produced for these three sensors, these functions are not limited to them and can be used separately in new projects using I2C and the Midrange platform. After the functions was veried using a oscilloscope (HW) and realterm (SW), a basic demonstration program was put together. The purpose of which is to demonstrate the functionality of the adapter card for the project stakeholders.

Abstract:
With the arrival of cloud computing technology, game accessibility and ubiquity havea bright future. Games can be hosted in a centralize server and accessed through theInternet by a thin client on a wide variety of devices with modest capabilities: cloudgaming. Some of the advantages of using cloud computing in game context includes:device ubiquity, computing exibility, affordable cost and lowered set up overheads andcompatibility issues. However, current cloud gaming systems have very strong requirementsin terms of network resources, thus reducing their widespread adoption. In factdevices with little bandwidth and people located in area with limited network capacity, cannot take advantage of these cloud services. In this thesis we present an adaptationtechnique inspired by the level of detail (LoD) approach in 3D graphics. It is based ona cloud gaming paradigm in other to maintain user's quality of experience (QoE) byreducing the impact of poor network parameters (delay, loss, bandwidth) on game interactivity. Our first contribution consist of game models expressing game objects and theircommunications needs represented by their importance in the game. We provided twodifferent ways to manage objects' importance using agents organizations and gameplaycomponents. We then provided a level of detail approach for managing network resourcedistribution based on objects importance in the game scene and network conditions. Weexploited the dynamic objects importance adjustment models presented above to proposeLoD systems adapting to changes during game sessions. The experimental validation ofboth adaptation models showed that the suggested adaptation minimizes the effects oflow and/or unstable network conditions in maintaining game responsiveness and player'sQoE

Abstract: In Brazil, the bylaws of Universities set forth three specific purposes: Education, Research and Extension Courses. Such universities must create, develop, organize, preserve and foster academic and scientific knowledge and culture, through education and research, in order to train professionals who are able to conduct scientific research, teach, and practice other professions, as well as work with the community, in order to develop academic activities. In recent years, there has been growing interest in the research of Adapted Motor Activity. Another observable fact is that the studies, which discuss the production of scientific knowledge in post graduation and doctorate programs in Physical Education in Brazil focus on several fields and lines of research, but have not prioritized Adapted Motor Activity. Therefore, a relevant research theme would be to survey the knowledge produced in relation to Adapted Motor Activity, within the masters and doctorate programs, in Physical Education, recognized and recommended by Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel). In order to conduct such a survey, a review of the literature in the field, as well as an analysis of the content, was conducted, whose aim was to analyze a large number of studies and list their basic principles. The data collected were organized into categories: Theory, divided into subcategories - Theme; Area of Concentration, Line of Research; Authors, Advisors and Date of Presentation; Methodological: Data Collection: research techniques, Methodological tools and procedures used; Focus Group. These were further processed by analysis grids. For the purpose of the present work Adapted Motor Activity is defined as the effort to adapt the means to execute a task in the absence of conventional means or inability to use them. 2 In this manner it is related to special groups, as those people with disabilities (physical, motor, physical sensorial and mental). At first, the analysis of dissertations and theses, between 1986 and 2008, of the Courses in Physical Education in Brazil, was conducted based on the abovementioned categories, and later the focus was on the analysis of elements obtained, and the establishment of generalizations based on historical, political and social determinants. The significant changes that have taken place, particularly in the field of Physical Education and Adapted Motor Activities, cannot be ignored, especially since the UN instituted 1981 as the International Year for Disabled Persons, which contributed for the establishment of a profile in this field of study. Studies have been produced mainly in the area of Biological Sciences; there are 123 researchers, who produce work in this area, 35 are professors/thesis advisors, who in turn give orientation to 68 graduate and 20 doctorate students; the themes are focused on groups which mainly involve, in that order, adults, then children, and adolescents. Research in Physical Education in relation to AMA represents a fairly new field, as the first dissertation was presented in 1986 (USP). UNICAMP is the Higher Education Institution with the most prolific production in the area (53 studies), followed by UFRGS (11 studies), USP (6 studies), UCB and UGF (4 studies each), UNESP and UFSC (3 studies each), UDESC and UFPR (with 2 studies each); only two Higher Education Institutions have a specific line of research to deal with issues related to AMA in the field of Physical Education - UNICAMP and UFRGS. This fact and the amount of time dedicated to research in the area, has fostered a greater production in those institutions. Besides the previously mentioned determinants of the manner through which research in Physical Education is structured, are also the following points: the allocation of the field in area number 21, Health; the evaluation criteria for production established by CAPES (Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel); and the recent discovery of the disabled population as research subjects, in Physical Education; in the listed Bibliography (as can be verified with standardized tests), notably influenced by the North American notion of disability. The research about AMA in Physical Education has been bold as it focuses on individuals who are in disadvantage in relation to standard movements, established during the evolution of Physical Education. However, it is important to emphasize that this profile has been constructed as both a product and a process in a contextual complex that is much more comprehensive and dynamic, with many contributive factors, which have been taken into account in the present study.

Abstract:
In mammals, Nck, represented by two genes, is a 47kDa protein lacking intrinsic enzymatic function. It is composed solely of three N-terminal Src-homology 3 (SH3) domains and a single C-terminal Src-homology 2 (SH2) domain. Nck is classified as an adapter molecule that links cell surface receptors, via its SH2 domain, to downstream effectors, through its SH3 domains. Two cDNAs coding for the carboxy-terminal region of the beta subunit of the eukaryotic initiation factor 2 (eIF2beta) were isolated from a two-hybrid screen to identify new effector molecules interacting with the SH3 domains of Nck. eIF2beta is a component of the molecular complex eIF2 responsible for one of the early steps in the initiation of protein synthesis. In this thesis, I determined in vivo that the first and the third SH3 domains of Nck were both required for its interaction with eIF2beta. Furthermore, Nck and eIF2beta colocalized in an enriched ribosomal fraction. The localization of Nck in this compartment is enhanced upon insulin stimulation. I also established that Nck-1 overexpression is concomitant with an increase in protein translation. Interestingly, the effect of Nck on translation was dependent on its first and third SH3 domains originally found to mediate its interaction with eIF2beta. To elucidate how Nck modulates protein translation, I examined whether Nck maintains its positive effects under ER stress conditions where protein synthesis is normally inhibited. Interestingly, my data revealed that Nck-1 overexpression antagonized ER stress-induced inhibition of translation. Furthermore, I demonstrated that overexpression of Nck-1 prevented PERK activation, eIF2alpha phosphorylation, BiP induction and cell survival in response to ER stress treatments. This integrates Nck in the regulation of the ER unfolded protein response (UPR). I also provided evidence that the effects of Nck on the UPR involve its second SH3 domain and a phosphatase-dependent mechanis

Abstract:
Upcycling can be described as an activity where outdated or discarded products are used as raw-materials in the construction of a new object, for which an increased quality or value is achieved. Some ideas for upcycling of technologically simple products have prooved successful, in the sense that those ideas have become widespread and practically implemented within a certain target audience. This thesis explores how an idea concerning upcycling of an electric product can be developed into a prototype, with the intent to simplify application of the idea within the target audience of electronic hobbyists. This is achieved through the development of a prototype for an adapter, the purpose of which is to extend the functionality of a character based LCD module with the Hitachi HD44780 control circuit. This allows for using such LCD module for displaying text in additional languages, and (for certain applications) using it as a substitute for a monochromatic graphical LCD module. The conclusion of the study is that the adapter prototype is capable of increasing the number of user defined characters that can be displayed simeltanously by a character LCD module, and that the prototype may be of use for certain types of applications within the intended target audience.

Abstract:
Blast disease of wheat has emerged as a new and serious field disease affecting wheat production in South America. The causal agent of wheat blast, Magnaporthe oryzae, infects cultivated crops including rice, wheat and barley, while M grisea is adapted to infect wild grass species. Durable disease resistance of crops against fungal pathogens may be achieved through non-host resistance; which is defined as resistance of a plant species to a non-adapted pathogen. Cellular defence responses and transcriptional changes of wheat cv. Renan, infected with adapted and non-adapted isolates of Magnaporthe spp., were investigated. Appositions formed beneath attempted penetration sites appeared to prevent colonisation by the nonadapted M grisea isolate, but were breached by the adapted M oryzae isolates. Microarray analysis indicated that wheat undergoes extensive transcriptome reprogramming following inoculation with both adapted and non-adapted isolates of Magnaporthe spp. A distinct set of transcripts were induced exclusively in response to the non-adapted M grisea isolate, while others were induced in response to both adapted and non-adapted isolates. Defence-related transcripts induced in common by adapted and non-adapted isolates were differentially regulated in response to M oryzae and M grisea isolates over time. Establishment of a virus induced gene silencing (VIGS) system in wheat cv. Renan enabled functional analysis of differentially expressed transcripts. Silencing the gene WIRT increased cell-to-cell spread of M oryzae hyphae, but not penetration efficiency, suggesting a postpenetration resistance role for this gene. Another gene, TaNIN was induced at early time points in response to both adapted and non-adapted Magnaporthe isolates. A partial sequence of this gene was cloned and shown to be the first nodule inception (NM-like gene characterised in wheat. This study provides an insight into the development of Magnaporthe spp. on wheat, together with functional characterisation of transcripts differentially expressed during adapted and nonadapted Magnaporthe spp. -wheat interactions.

Abstract:

The objective of this research was to analyze the principles behind the collaborative work between the teachers of Physical Education and Specialized Educational Assistants involved in the planning process of scholarly inclusion. This qualitative descriptive study was based on the underlying assumptions of collaborative research. Two Physical Education teachers and two Specialized Educational Assistants of the municipal elementary schools in the Central-West of the state of São Paulo participated in the study. A survey of national and international literature helped identify the theoretical principles that encompass a proposal for collaborative work. A questionnaire was used with the teachers who worked in the Specialized Educational Assistance, to identify whether the principles of the collaborative work outlined in the literature are applicable in practice. Data collection occurred in two different environments. Physical Education classes were filmed, focusing on the actions of the Physical Education teacher with the student, in order to identify the principles that make up the collaborative work. The collection also occurred in the meetings for planning with the teacher of the Specialized Educational Assistance and Physical Education, where the audios were recorded, with the objective of identifying in the teachers' speech the principles that make up the collaborative work and at the end of the work carried out A semi-structured interview, based on a script, with six open questions, related to the teachers' experience in working collaboratively. For the treatment and analysis of the information, the categories identified in the bibliographic survey were separated and regrouped by similarities, and later classified in three broad categories. These categories were used to identify, in the questionnaire, in the filming, in the field notes and in the recordings of the speeches, indications of the first fruits of the collaborative work. The results revealed contents about: 1) characteristics of teachers; 2) conditions for carrying out the collaborative work; And, 3) possibilities based on collaborative work. It is concluded that the principles that make up a proposal for collaborative work are based on questions related to the profile of teachers and their willingness to participate in this proposal, the availability of time for dialogues at school, the need to elaborate a collaborative work plan for That the actions and strategies systematized together and that from the collaborative work teachers have the opportunity to know the student and risk new strategies.

Abstract:

Systems development projects and their documents are more or less standardized and can mainly be applied on systems that are supposed to be built from scratch, or updated. In pace with the number of IT-systems are increasing worldwide there is no need for every organization to build their own IT-system. Nowadays it is also possible to purchase licenses which allow the purchaser to modify or add functions to the system. Along with those changes, there have been an increased amount of “rapid development methods” such as Agile and “Quick and Dirty” solutions, but these methods and perspectives are mainly focusing on entire systems development processes, as the old ones, but quicker.

If a company purchases an off-the-shelf system with source code available, there is no real need to go through a proper systems development process. During interviews with a small company that has acquired a system as mentioned above, the researcher realized that only one single document is needed, the requirements specification. Today’s requirements specifications can be either well detailed or less, but a project still needs the details specified. Combining a known agile development process with IEEE’s standardized requirements specification, a new way to proceed with projects based on one single document (the requirements specification) has been made. This document also has a focus on simplicity for the inexperienced readers, but with the depth that every developer has got a use for.

Abstract:
Thesis (Ph. D.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2007.
Includes bibliographical references (p. 159-163).
Quantum error correction (QEC) is an essential concept for any quantum information processing device. Typically, QEC is designed with minimal assumptions about the noise process; this generic assumption exacts a high cost in efficiency and performance. We examine QEC methods that are adapted to the physical noise model. In physical systems, errors are not likely to be arbitrary; rather we will have reasonable models for the structure of quantum decoherence. We may choose quantum error correcting codes and recovery operations that specifically target the most likely errors. This can increase QEC performance and also reduce the required overhead. We present a convex optimization method to determine the optimal (in terms of average entanglement fidelity) recovery operation for a given channel, encoding, and information source. This is solvable via a semidefinite program (SDP). We derive an analytic solution to the optimal recovery for the case of stabilizer codes, the completely mixed input source, and channels characterized by Pauli group errors. We present computational algorithms to generate near-optimal recovery operations structured to begin with a projective syndrome measurement.
(cont.) These structured operations are more computationally scalable than the SDP required for computing the optimal; we can thus numerically analyze longer codes. Using Lagrange duality, we bound the performance of the structured recovery operations and show that they are nearly optimal in many relevant cases. We present two classes of channel-adapted quantum error correcting codes specifically designed for the amplitude damping channel. These have significantly higher rates with shorter block lengths than corresponding generic quantum error correcting codes. Both classes are stabilizer codes, and have good fidelity performance with stabilizer recovery operations. The encoding, syndrome measurement, and syndrome recovery operations can all be implemented with Clifford group operations.

Abstract:

Abstract:
With the emergence of natural user interfaces (NUl) technologies; which introduces new ways of interacting with computers, the way humans think about using computers has changed. Computer games have now a new dimension; where the player can perform a wide range of movements, ranging from simple hand gestures to moving the whole body or simply changing body position. This project aims to evaluate new ways of motivating older adults to move and perform exercises by encouraging them to play computer games that are fun. For gaming to work with older adults. the perceived affordancet or opportunity for action, of the game needs to give the player a meaningful indication about what actions are possible. and what they should do next. This project focuses on how to design games that adapts to individual player's affordancest where the level of difficulty of each level in the game will be able to accommodate an individual user's physical abilities. The research also investigates usability issues associated with designing digital games for older adults. An iterative testing methodology was applied to create several game prototypes to stipulate a set of design heuristics that will serve as a shared language between designers and developers. This project also Investigates how the player performance can be analysed when playing Kinect games, in such a way to enable older people to win against younger. A new novel algorithm called Best Hit Algorithm is implemented. The algorithm is tested with both older and younger adults to prove its validity; it provides a fair challenge mechanism where each player performance is measured according to hislher best performance. This is contrary to the current implementations of Kinect games where the winner usually is the player who has higher physical capabilities (e.g. faster response speed).

Abstract:
The work has been carried out as a product development project at Saab AB in Arboga, focusing on construction. Saab in Arboga develops test systems for JAS 39 Gripen, whose purpose is to verify all the contacts. This is done by using the test system, ATE. Before testing can begin, the wiring harness in the ITA must be verified. Currently this is done manually, and due to wiring extent, the risks of incorrect measurements are apparent. In addition to incorrect measuring, the extent of the wiring can also lead to incorrect wiring in production. These errors can result in the test system fails, which means great financial loss for the company. The project's aim was to develop an automated measurement process and produce a prototype, in order to verify that the ITA is correctly connected before the simulation is done. The main issue for the project has been if an automated measurement process can obtain sufficient precision to replace manual measurement. By analyzing the market for automated movement, a number of concepts for the overall measurement process were generated. The concepts were evaluated with decision-matrix method, as well with regard to the complexity of the required software management for each concept. The measurement process that was chosen based on the 3D printer and its underlying mechanics and automation. To realize the concept to a fully working prototype the process of product development was broken down in segments. This reduced the level of complexity, while it contributed to simplify optimization. In order to achieve optimum design every segment consisted of concept generation and concept evaluation. The construction which is the basis for the prototype is an off-the-shelf solution, and based on the parts used in the milling machine x-Carve. The overall structure is based on the milling machine, however modified to the extent that the purpose can be achieved. The choice to base the design on the X-Carve was made against the background that it harmonized well with the overall concept of measuring process, but also well with the concepts generated in the broken down segments, mentioned above. The underlying factor to the use of components which is an off-the-shelf solution to the design is a result of the project vastness and the provided time. The developed prototype lives up to the requirements. Empirical tests indicate that the prototype obtains sufficient precision to perform measurements. The results of the tests carried out shows that manual labor can be replaced, and therefore leads to the conclusion that the prototype proved useful. The prototype has some potential for development, why it is recommended to examine each segment if additional optimizations must be made.

The aim of this research is bouble : 1) On the one hand, to prove that successfull adaptations go through a precise knowledge of the pupils they are bound to benefit, as well as pedagogic strategies they perform. It is a complex process which must be present at any stage of the institution. A sample of fifteen data sheets has been elaborated, covering the main situations a team is supposed to deal with. 2) On the other hand, to show the adapting process, based on the political will of national unification, has got to face the strong resistance of certain minorities, especially the gipsy minority. This reject is a problem to European school authorities because it generates doubtful compromises with the laws concerning school obligation

Abstract:
This thesis presents a generic solution to the problem of database adapters for multi-tier CORBA based applications. This solution is based on the concept of metatype classes, which provide information about the types of objects that are being stored in a database. The concept of a metaobject protocol is introduced and discussed. The Database Adapter is proposed as a generic solution for managing persistent information for multi-tier CORBA based applications. A framework for developing multi-tier applications using a generic adapter is presented. A test application is developed to evaluate the management of objects and to measure the impact on performance. It is found that the ability to manage objects through the use of a generic adapter, without modifying the adapter when managing different new types of objects, results in only a slight increase in operation invocation time, but results in huge savings in development and testing time.
