Abstract:
Abstract A field experiment was carried out in one of the agricultural fields in Abu Ghraib region during the winter season of 2018-2019 in order to study the effect of plowing systems on the growth and productivity of eight cultivars of wheat crop in a silty clay loam, field land which was not sown in the previous season. Two tillage systems were used (no-tillage and tillage) to grow the wheat crop, moldboard plows and harrow (local made). The cultivars were (Wafia, Adena, Araz, Erratum, Pura, Spelta, Doru, and Cymto). Randomized complete blocks design (RCBD) was used in a split plot arrangement with three replications. Results revealed that Adena predominated in plant height (87.77 cm), spike length (10.68 cm) tillers (4.695 tiller plant-1), whereas Cymto was superior in plant dry weight (80.00 g), thousand grains weight (54.80 g), grains yield per unit (5.535 Kg). Genetic material of Azar, Adena and Cymto cultivars was the best, as it was clearly manifested in the phenotypic components of wheat.

Abstract:
Drought is one of the most critical abiotic factors especially in warm dry areas yielding limited crop. Ten wheat genotypes tested for drought tolerance at germination stage. Polyethylene Glycol-8000 used to induce -1.7 and -3.5 bars osmotic potential as compared to control treatment with three replications in factorial experiment with completely Randomized Design(CRD).The studied parameters showed a decreasing in style of response to increment of PEG concentration. The lowest Final Germination Percentage (FGP) mean recorded was 73.23 % under -3.5 bars as compared to control. Means of Daily Germination time (MDG), Germination Index (GI) and Coefficient of Velocity Germination (CVG) have been decreased from 4.04, 3.23 and 81.64 at control treatment to 2.46, 1.77 and 69.21 at severe drought level. But the highest CVG; 83.34 recorded by Azady under 160 g/ L PEG. In addition under -3.5 bar treatment lowest means of shoot and root length recorded; 3.34 and 1.92 cm as compared to control treatment. While, lowest shoot weight and whole seedling weight; 0.07 and 0.079 g recorded by Abu-ghreb, but lowest root dry weight 0.008 g was recorded by Adena. While, a significant increase observed in proline content in all genotypes at 160 g PEG-8000/ L medium. Ezz, Sham-6, Azady, Rabeaa and Riagary seedlings’ accumulated more proline as compared to Tammuz-2, Adena, Abu-ghreb, Abehade and Ebba-99. According to the studied parameters a dendrogram constructed. The genotypes classified into two groups. Resistant; include Ezz, Sham-6, Azady, Rabeaa and Rizgary. Sensitive; includes Tammuz-2, Adena, Abu- ghreb, Abehade and Ebba-99.

Abstract:
More than 5000 rock structure sites are found in northeastern United States, but their cultural attribution has long been debated. Some argue than many are prehistoric in origin, while others maintain they all date to colonial times. Few have been dated, and of those that have, the association of the dated material and the rocks can be challenged. Here, we provide luminescence analysis on the rocks themselves at a large site in eastern Pennsylvania. Our results suggest an age coeval with the Adena culture of the Ohio Valley.

Abstract:
The West Runway site (15BE391) is located in an upland setting in Boone County, Kentucky. Excavations at this locality revealed intact Early Woodland deposits including pit features containing Fayette Thick ceramics and straight stemmed Kramer projectile points. Until these investigations, Fayette Thick ceramics had not previously been recovered from non-mound locations or in isolation within undisturbed feature contexts. Several radiocarbon determinations bracket the primary occupation of the West Runway site between 770 B.C. and 390 B.C. These dates indicate that the site predates the well-known Adena culture and suggest a need for continuing refinement of the Early Woodland cultural sequence.

Abstract:
Three major research topics can be addressed using Northeastern ceramic data. First, different technological developments are seen in the earliest ceramics. Flat-bottomed wares develop in the Middle Atlantic and coiled, conoidal wares are earliest in New England. Second, the Abbott Farm and Delmarva Adena complexes of the central Middle Atlantic can be distinguished from surrounding Early and Middle Woodland complexes on the basis of ceramics; social complexity may be related to ceramic traits. Finally, Late Woodland ceramic design motifs and design “grammars” can be used to distinguish ethnic groups and study population movements throughout the Northeast.

Abstract:
Policy analysis is complicated by the myriad of benefits and costs generated by the use of natural resources. This study develops three benefits that must be considered in the granting of a consumptive use permit for water filed by Adena Springs Ranch, east of Ocala, Florida. This ranch is hoping to expand into grass-fat beef; but to do so, it needs additional water for irrigation. Specifically, our analysis considers the potential gain from the ranch, the potential negative effect on existing permit holders and environmental uses of water, and the possible positive value generated by the increased surface flow for other recreational users in eastern Marion County.

AbstractPerlesta placida (Hagen), long regarded as a widespread variable species, is a complex of at least 12 species which differ in pigmentation, egg morphology and male and female genital structures. Species removed from the synonymy of P. placida (= Chloroperla virginica Banks, 1898; = P. virginica immaculata Klapálek, 1921) include P. cinctipes (Banks, 1905), P. decipiens (Walsh, 1862) (= Perla brunnipennis Walsh, 1862, syn. n.; = Isoperla texana Banks, 1914, syn. n.; = P. costalis Klapálek, 1921, syn. n.) and P. nitida Banks, 1948. New species described include P. adena, P. baumanni, P. bolukta, P. browni, P. lagoi, P. nelsoni and P. shubuta. Lectotypes are designated for most older species, including P. frisoni Banks, 1948, which is also valid, and all are redescribed from types.

Abstract:
Humans not only err, they often err willingly and explicitly, for both pleasure and edification. We accordingly “find” faces everywhere . . . most frequently, in the “faces” in paintings. And if we look at stars, clouds, and shadows we can find anything we want to find, so great is the indeterminacy of such finding places and so willing are we, for certain purposes, to accept the most minimal likenesses as “like.”Adena Rosmarin, The Power of Genre (1985)Adena Rosmarin's comment is part of a wider discussion of E. H. Gombrich's idea of the role of “schema” in perceptions of art—a concept he uses to explain, among other things, how it is that observers can perceive a face in a collection of lines and dots, and, more generally, why it makes sense to say that all art begins not with nothing but with something. A snowman starts with the schema that is snow, for example, and we “work the snow and balance the shapes till we recognize a man.” And not only do we work the snow to achieve some approximation of human faces and bodies, but we find human characteristics in—or, more accurately, make characters out of—all sorts of things, living and not. Certainly, we project character onto living nonhumans, such as cats, dogs, birds, and plants, imagining that they share our feelings of love, loneliness, and desire, but we also assign character and characteristics to inanimate objects and assorted phenomena: ships, cars, and hurricanes all get names; we may talk to the toaster, or grumble at a shoelace that, we imagine, stubbornly refuses—refuses!—to untie. Thus it is hardly surprising that literary characters, intended expressly as vehicles for imaginative occupation, take on a similarly outsize quality in our psyches. Words on a page, constructions of language, they invite us to consider them as soulmates and doppelgängers; nightmare—or perhaps ideal—versions of parents, brothers, sisters, friends, and selves: the families we might have chosen if we could; the me (or not me) nobody knows.

Abstract:
Perlesta Banks, 1906 (Plecoptera: Perlidae) is a genus of small, summer-emergent stoneflies known primarily from the eastern Nearctic. Thirty-two species are currently recognized, including two from China and nymphs have been reported from Costa Rica. We report here on some cryptic diversity within a small group of Perlesta with dark wings and bodies. Perlesta armitagei sp. nov. is described from the adult male, adult female, and egg. Diagnostic characters are presented with light microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM) photomicrographs. Perlesta armitagei sp. nov. most closely resembles P. browni Stark, 1989 and P. cinctipes (Banks, 1905), two species distributed mainly within the Interior Highland Region. Perlesta armitagei sp. nov. is known currently within the Ohio River drainage from Indiana eastward to western Pennsylvania and southward into central Kentucky. Comparative light microscope and SEM images are also provided for P. adena Stark, 1989, P. browni, P. cinctipes, and P. xube Stark and Rhodes, 1997 in an effort to better define the morphological concepts of these dark colored species.

Abstract:
Serpent Mound, in northern Adams County, Ohio, USA, is one of the most iconic symbols of ancient America and yet there is no widely agreed upon date for the age of its original construction. Some archaeologists consider it to have been built by the Adena culture around 300bc, while others contend it was built by the Fort Ancient culture aroundad1100. There have been three attempts to obtain radiometric ages for the effigy, but they have yielded inconclusive results. The iconography of the earthwork offers an alternative means of placing the mound in its cultural context. Serpent imagery is abundant in the Fort Ancient culture as well as in the more encompassing Mississippian Ideological Interaction Sphere. Pictographs from Picture Cave in Missouri include a serpent, a humanoid female and a vulvoid in close association. We interpret these elements, in the light of Siouan oral traditions, as First Woman and her consort the Great Serpent. The Picture Cave imagery dates to betweenad950 and 1025. We argue that these same three elements are represented in the original configuration of Serpent Mound and therefore situate its design and original construction in the Early Fort Ancient period.

Abstract:
The cataloguing of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivar isozyme patterns, though a routine exercise, provides useful data for genetic and breeding studies. Isozymes of five kernel enzyme systems (β-amylase, esterases, malate dehydrogenase, superoxide dismutase, and glucose phosphate isomerase) were separated by isoelectric fosusing (IEF) for 80 North American winter wheat cultivars. No variation in malate dehydrogenase, superoxide dismutase, or glucose phosphate isomerase IEF patterns was detected. There were three groups of hard red winter wheat cultivars with esterase patterns that differed from the pattern common to all others: Arkan and Sage; Siouxland, Colt, and Pioneer 2157; and Sandy. Esterase IEF, in contrast to gliadin electrophoresis in other studies, distinguished Sage from Eagle and Larned. Four soft red winter cultivars (Compton and Adena; Florida 302; Roland) and six groups containing a total of eight hard red winter cultivars (RHS812; RHS830; Norstar; Plainsman V; TAM 105, TAM 107, and Rose; and TAM 101) had variant β-amylase patterns. Some of the esterase and β-amylase varients, produced by genes on chromosomes 3A, 3D, 4D, 5A, and possibly others, may be useful in linkage studies.Key words: Cultivar identification, electrophoresis, β-amylase, esterase, superoxide dismutase, glucose phosphate isomerase

Abstract:
In many Arab countries, where colonial rule was replaced by local authoritarian, often corrupt, regimes, popular discontent with the living conditions under the new government has produced a kind of nostalgia for the colonial past. This nostalgia is well observed in today’s Aden (Republic of Yemen), which was a British colony from 1839 until 1967. In the middle of the 20th century, Aden was the most prosperous city on the Arabian Peninsula and one of the busiest seaports in the world. This article examines how this nostalgia is manifested in modern Yemeni literature, namely in three novels: Three Midnighters (1993) by Sa‘id Awlaqi, Adeni Incense (2014) by Ali al-Muqri, and Steamer Point (2015) by Ahmad Zayn (Zein). In the novel Three Midnighters, which takes place in the late 1980s, the allegory of Aden Colony is a cultural club, whose activities are remembered by the characters. The main characteristics of that club were its openness to all people, its atmosphere of freedom of thought, freedom of expression, mutual respect of its members, prosperity, love, and fun. In Adeni Incense, Aden Colony also resembles a wonderful club. The members of this club, that is, the characters of the novel, live in harmony, love, and prosperity — until evil external forces begin to destroy this club. The lack of realistic details in the depiction of the city and its inhabitants allows the reader to perceive the novel as allegorical rather than realistic. In Steamer Point, Aden Colony does not appear as a wonderful club, since the novel is written in a completely realistic manner. Nevertheless, Aden in the novel has two important features: the economic prosperity and peaceful coexistence of representatives of different cultures and different identities. It is these features of the city that one of the main characters, a sincere admirer of the British, is afraid to lose as a result of the British withdrawal.

Abstract:
AbstractAfter Aden came under British rule (1839) its Jewish community was reinforced by Jewish immigrants from inland Yemen and also from other Middle Eastern countries. Some of the Adeni Jews, most of them British subjects, entered the Indian-British commercial network and expanded it to East Africa, mainly to Ethiopia, founding commercial strongholds there. From the late nineteenth century, Jews coming from Yemen joined the existing Adeni settlements. This paper compares the reasons for the emigration to Ethiopia of Adeni Jews and Yemeni Jews, and their economic and social status under Italian colonial regime (established in Eritrea in the 1880s). It discusses relations between these Jews, which it argues, were determined by the position of each group in the colonial hierarchy, and by the necessity of sustaining religious-communal life. Thus, in spite of their shared Yemeni origin and attendance at the same communal institutions, ethnicity and religion proved weaker than social and economic considerations, and the two groups cultivated a separate identity.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Adenoviruses have moved to the forefront of vaccinology and are showing substantial prom ise as vehicles for antigen delivery for a number of vaccines currently being developed. Most studies to date have focused on human serotype adenoviruses, particularly human adenovirus type 5. Human serotype adenovirus vaccine vectors are particularly usef ul for development of veterinary vaccines as neutralizing antibodies to the vector will not usually be present in the vaccinates. Most vectors currently used as vaccine carriers are deleted in E1 gene. The original E1 deleted adenoviral vectors were constr ucted by homologous recombination. Replication incompetent vectors contain an antigen expression cassette substituted for the deleted E1A – E1B region. These replication incompitant adenoviruses can not replicate because of the deletion of the essential vir al E1 gene region containing two genes. Replication competent adenoviral vectors encode all of the remaining adenoviral antigens in addition to the transgene product, i.e., the vaccine antigen. The potential for adenoviruses to elicit powerful B cell and T cell responses in the mammalian host are the main reason for the use of these vectors in vaccine development. For effective veterinary use, extensive research on adenoviral vaccine vectors should be undertaken.

Abstract:
5530 Background: Conflicting results have been reported for adeno- and adenosquamous carcinomas the cervix with respect to their response to therapy and prognosis. Adeno- and adenosquamous carcinoma comprise the majority of non-squamous carcinomas of the cervix enrolled in GOG trials of chemoradiation. Methods: Adeno- and adenosquamous cervical carcinomas were retrospectively studied and compared to squamous cell carcinomas in GOG trials of chemoradiation. Results: Among 1672 patients enrolled in clinical trials of chemoradiation, 182 adeno- and adenosquamous carcinomas were identified (10.8%). A higher percentage of adeno- and adenosquamous carcinomas were stage IB (27% versus 20%) and fewer were stage IIIB (21.4% versus 28.6%). The mean tumor size was larger for squamous than adeno- and adenosquamous carcinomas, but adeno- and adenosquamous carcinomas were more often poorly differentiated (46.2% versus 26.8%). Among patients that received cis-platinum during radiation therapy, 843 with squamous cell carcinoma were compared to 112 with adeno- or adenosquamous carcinoma for overall survival, with no significant difference in risk of death (p=0.472). However, among patients that did not receive cis-platinum, 647 with squamous cell carcinoma and 70 with adeno- or adenosquamous carcinoma, there was a slightly higher risk of death for the adeno- or adenosquamous group (p=0.049). Adverse effects to treatment were similar across histologies. Conclusions: Patients with adeno- and adenosquamous carcinomas of the cervix have worse overall survival when treated with radiation alone, but have progression-free and overall survival similar to patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the cervix when treated with cis-platinum based chemoradiation.
