Objective of this work was to investigate and compare the elements of the formation of Qualitatif adjectif in French and Lithuanian languages. We revewed also the parameters of word's formation and translation specificities in both languages.

Full textThe contrastive study is based upon the assumption that if the mother tongue (or the vernacular) of the learner and the foreign language have similar features, the learner won't have much difficulties in learning foreign language. It is in this spirit that we try to compare two languages in order to bring out their different linguistic mechanisms. Some linguistic phenomena may be quite similar, some may be partially similar, some may be quite dissimilar. This means that when a person learns a foreign language, he (or she) has not to learn entirely a new system. Because, he (or she) has already seen some similar linguistic phenomena in his (or her) mother tongue (or in his her vernacular). As far as the teaching of french in bangladesh is concerned, our experience leads us to say that the previous knowledge of bengali and of english (two source languages) often intervenes in the course of the learning of french (target language). Sometimes this knowledge may help the students to grasp well the functioning of some linguistic phenomena of french, sometimes on the contrary, it may pose problems regarding some elements. The problems which occur are due to the fact that these three languages (bengali, english and french) differ from one another in their system. At times, they are due to the wrong grammatical description of these languages. We have given a brief description of the grammatical elements of the two source langulages (bengali and english) and of the target language (french) in order to show some linguistic problems which may be posed during the process of the learning of french. Within the scope of this work we have dealt with the sentence, the subject, the predicate, the object, the noun, the determiner and the qualifying adjective. The aim of this study is to help the teaching of french by increasing the awareness

Full textThe object of this research is the syntactic study of the qualifying adjective, in the theoretical framework of the pronominal approach, developped by the gars (groupe aixois de recherche en syntaxe). The qualifying adjective can fill several syntactic functions : predicative adjective of the subject, predicative adjective of the objet, attributive adjective, contingent adjective clause and adjective in the absolue construction. The syntactic analysis will be developped from these differenct functions, with the exception of the absolute construction. Special attention is given in this study, to the fact that the qualifying adjective selects, in general the lexical category of the noun to which it refers. Observations are made in this area concerning adjectives of different semantic categorie used predicatively (subject complement). Apart from the absolute construction we have devoted a separate chapiter to each syntactic function. As these are functions which can be filled by other elements of discourse (participles, substantives), these latter are studied together with the adjective in order to bring out the syntactic relations that hold between the adjective and these other elements. A comparison is made between examples taken from oral production and those in written french. At the beginning of each chapter, we have made a survey of what has been said both in traditional grammar and in linguistic research, about each syntactic function

Full textAs regards all word, one finds several definitions more or less equivalent. The practice of a word doesn't request perfect knowledge of it's meaning. The practice is acquired by the double performance of more or less elaborated explications and positive or negative sanctions resulting from groping experience through the research as " trial and error ". So, the problem of exploitation must be in these conditions : 1) to reduce an information so rich, by reasonable selection. 2) to microsystemise the lexical information for the learner. 3) to anticipate a repeated acquisition by the didactic way

Full textOur research consists in applying the methods of lexical statistics to the adjectives used in Mallarme 's poems. In the first part of our work, we give a definition of qualificative adjectives and we consider their position among the different noun syntagmas. In the second part of our work, we use the theory of probabilities applied to lexicology. We compare the use of adjectives in Mallarme's poems to that of other symbolists poets. We investigate into the distribution of their frequencies, their organization, their wealth and their renewal. In the third part, we analyse the stylistic use of adjectives in Sainte and Herodiade, then in the first published poems, and finally of the most frequent adjectives we end our work with the study of the specific adjectives appearing in Mallarmé's works

Full textQualifying adjective in grammar depends on noun. This definition relates rather to the structure than to the meaning of the text for which using an adjective is useful. Some pupils have been asked to find out in two texts, the adjectives, their function, to create texts (CE2, CM1, CM2), to write down the sequel of a story and to complete a text with relevant adjectives (CM2, 5è, 3è) in order to understand qualifying adjective. Full textOur study, being about the qualifying adjectives used by the dramatic characters in moliere's play, is divided into the following three sections. First of all, we are studying moliere's adjectives as a product of their time, just as moliere's theater is. These are the eminently social elements of the language which contain the taste, the ideas and the values of society from that time. In the second part of our analysis, we are trying to study the adjectives as a stylistic way of conveying expressiveness, without having necessarily locate them in the context of the xviie century. In the last part, the adjectives are analysed as elements where the natureor the dramatic fonctions of the character are reflected. Particularly in the field of love, the character's constant use of conventional adjectives makes, whatever the theme of the play is concerned with, foreseeable

Full textFrench as a foreign language was taught in Nigeria, as an optional subject in secondary schools in the 1950s before being made compulsory about 10 years ago (1998). For economic, political and social reasons, Nigeria decided to develop teaching and learning of French language at secondary and tertiary levels. Many students study it to become teachers or work in other related fields. Every student must register for a linguistic perfection programme in Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV), an Inter University Centre for French Studies before getting a degree. As a lecturer, we noticed that they have difficulties in grammar, which is the basis for acquisition and proper use of any given language. Analysing these difficulties and proposing new approaches can help them express themselves better in French. This Thesis analyses difficulties in the use of qualitative adjectives and proposes a better way of teaching and grammar acquisition in French at NFLV in particular and in other French departments in Nigeria. Finally, it corroborates other researches already done on the teaching of French in NFLV, while shedding light on the problem of in service training of lecturers

Full textThis study offers an analysis of a group of adjectives, namely previous, next, former, and future, within an utterer-based theoretical framework, The Theory of Enunciative Operations. These adjectives are known in previous studies as temporal adjectives due to their reference to the past and/or the future. Analysis of the underlying operations marked by these adjectives relies on key concepts developed within Culioli's theory: 'notional domain', 'location', and 'schematic figure'. Each adjective is associated with a schematic form that accounts for all the uses of the adjective. This form is an abstract representation that takes the form of a double movement with a prospective and a retrospective orientation, hence the name 'orientational adjectives'. These adjectives share other common features, apart from being attributive-only. They select different types of nouns (for instance, former president/wife is common, former mother/father is more constrained), they display constraints with determiners (deictic location of a time unit selects 0 while contextual location admits only of the). Moreover, the study shows how these adjectives constitute/a sub-class within the adjectival category
