Let $T$ be a bounded linear operator acting on a complex Banach space $X$ and $(\lambda_n)_{n\in\mathsf{N}}$ a sequence of complex numbers. Our main result is that if $|\lambda_n|/|\lambda_{n+1}|\to 1$ and the sequence $(\lambda_n T^n)_{n\in\mathsf{N}}$ is frequently universal then $T$ is topologically multiply recurrent. To achieve such a result one has to carefully apply Szemerédi's theorem in arithmetic progressions. We show that the previous assumption on the sequence $( \lambda_n)_{n\in\mathsf{N}}$ is optimal among sequences such that $|\lambda_{n}|/|\lambda_{n+1}|$ converges in $[0,\inft

We will consider multiplication operators on a Hilbert space of analytic functions on a domainΩ⊂C. For a bounded analytic functionφonΩ, we will give necessary and sufficient conditions under which the complement of the essential spectrum ofMφinφΩbecomes nonempty and this gives conditions for the adjoint of the multiplication operatorMφbelongs to the Cowen-Douglas class of operators. Also, we characterize the structure of the essential spectrum of a multiplication operator and we determine the commutants of certain multiplication operators. AbstractLet Hn be a monotone sequence of non-negative self-adjoint operators or relations in a Hilbert space. Then there exists a self-adjoint relation H∞ such that Hn converges to H∞ in the strong resolvent sense. This result and related limit results are explored in detail and new simple proofs are presented. The corresponding statements for monotone sequences of semi-bounded closed forms are established as immediate consequences. Applications and examples, illustrating the general results, include sequences of multiplication operators, Sturm–Liouville operators with increasing potentials, f

SynopsisWe consider a mathematical model for the motion of a marked monomer in a system of reacting polymers at equilibrium. A well-posed integro-differential initial value problem for the probability of finding the marked monomer in a molecule of a given length is formulated. We prove exponential convergence of the probability to a unique equilibrium distribution. A quite complete spectral analysis is carried out for a self adjoint operator, which is a perturbation of a multiplication operator by an integral operator and is related to the generator of the time evolution.

It discusses square matrices, adjoint matrices, cofactor matrices and skew-symmetric matrices.
