Given a representation of a unital C∗-algebra A on a Hilbert space H, together with a bounded linear map V:K→H from some other Hilbert space, one obtains a completely positive map on A via restriction using the adjoint action associated to V. We show this restriction forms a natural transformation from a functor of C∗-algebra representations to a functor of completely positive maps. We exhibit Stinespring's construction as a left adjoint of this restriction. Our Stinespring adjunction provides a universal property associated to minimal Stinespring dilations and morphisms of Stinespring dilatio

On the other hand, our analysis shows that the lai purposive employs complementation of a secondary predicate, the hao purposive involves conjunction of two clauses, and the bare purposive sh

Abstract:
Ancient Egyptian “virtual” relative clauses are analysed, following certain earlier proposals, as syntactically adjunctive constructions similar to so-called adjoined relatives found especially in various Australian Aboriginal languages. The structural behaviour of the said type of relative clauses differs markedly from that of the “real” relative constructions, which (in attributive use) are argued to be embedded as constituents of their antecedent NPs.

Summary In [6], [7] we presented a formalization of Kronecker’s construction of a field extension of a field F in which a given polynomial p ∈ F [X]\F has a root [4], [5], [3]. As a consequence for every field F and every polynomial there exists a field extension E of F in which p splits into linear factors. It is well-known that one gets the smallest such field extension – the splitting field of p – by adjoining the roots of p to F. In this article we start the Mizar formalization [1], [2] towards splitting fields: we define ring and field adjunctions, algebraic elements and minimal polynomia

Abstract This paper uses optimality theory (OT) to account for the phenomenon of identity occurrence resulting from clausal recursion, which we argue is derived from syntactic embedding and syntactic adjunction. This paper shows that the interaction between faithfulness and economy constraints allows for the optional deletion of functional morphemes that occur repetitively. The syntactic process of deletion is sensitive to the concept of markedness in a few ways. First, the marked, rather than the unmarked, pattern is the trigger for deletion; second, unmarked constructions have priority over

We develop some basic functorial techniques for the study of the categories of comodules over corings. In particular, we prove that the induction functor stemming from every morphism of corings has a left adjoint, called ad-induction functor. This construction generalizes the known adjunctions for the categories of Doi-Hopf modules and entwined modules. The separability of the induction and ad-induction functors are characterized, extending earlier results for coalgebra and ring homomorphisms, as well as for entwining structures.

German Sign Language (DGS) exhibits constructions which seem to meet the generaldefinition of serial verb constructions (SVCs). I demonstrate that the constructions inquestion have characteristics known to be shared by similar constructions in other spokenand signed languages, both in terms of form and in terms of function. I argue thatwithin the typological picture, the DGS data suggest three things. First, it is most likelythe case that very different structures can derive similar surface data; for example, verbphrases may be concatenated via complementation or adjunction. Relatedly, the fac

Morphological operators are generalized to lattices as adjunction pairs (Serra, 1984; Ronse, 1990; Heijmans and Ronse, 1990; Heijmans, 1994). In particular, morphology for set lattices is applied to analyze logics through Kripke semantics (Bloch, 2002; Fujio and Bloch, 2004; Fujio, 2006). For example, a pair of morphological operators as an adjunction gives rise to a temporalization of normal modal logic (Fujio and Bloch, 2004; Fujio, 2006). Also, constructions of models for intuitionistic logic or linear logics can be described in terms of morphological interior and/or closure operators (Fuji

This work shows an application of a generalized approach for constructing dilation-erosion adjunctions on fuzzy sets. More precisely, operations on fuzzy quantities and fuzzy numbers are considered. By the generalized approach an analogy with the well known interval computations could be drawn and thus we can define outer and inner operations on fuzzy objects. These operations are found to be useful in the control of bioprocesses, ecology and other domains where data uncertainties exist.

Place/transition (PT) Petri nets are one of the most widely used models of concurrency. However, they still lack, in our view, a satisfactory semantics: on the one hand the ‘token game’ is too intensional, even in its more abstract interpretations in terms of nonsequential processes and monoidal categories; on the other hand, Winskel's basic unfolding construction, which provides a coreflection between nets and finitary prime algebraic domains, works only for safe nets. In this paper we extend Winskel's result to PT nets. We start with a rather general category PTNets of PT nets, we introduce
