Abstract:
Diameter measurements on successive metal hubs from a machining operation are modeled using a random walk with observation error and linear drift corresponding to tool wear. After producing and measuring a hub, the depth of the cutting tool on the lathe can be adjusted in integer multiples of 0.0001 inches. How should the tool be adjusted? An optimal discrete adjustment strategy is derived assuming that the lathe automatically corrects for deterministic tool wear. The objective is to minimize expected run costs proportional to the sum of squared diameter deviations from a target plus fixed charges for manual tool adjustments. The optimal strategy makes no manual adjustment if an estimate of the process mean is near target. Otherwise, an adjustment is made to return the estimated mean as near to target as possible within the adjustment resolution. The region where no adjustments are made widens near the end of the production run where adjustments have only short-term impact. The region converges as the number of remaining periods increases. Plots of expected run costs show that the extra cost of discreteness is small at high resolution but is substantial when the adjustment grid is coarse.

Abstract:
Applying the optimal problem, we get the optimal power supply and price. However, how to make the real power consumption close to the optimal power supply is still worth studying. This paper proposes a novel data-driven inverse proportional function-based repeated-feedback adjustment strategy to control the users’ real power consumption. With the repeated-feedback adjustment, we adjust the real-time prices according to changes in the power discrepancy between the optimal power supply and the users’ real power consumption. If and only if the power discrepancy deviates the preset range, the real power consumption in different periods will be adjusted through the change of the price, so the adjustment times is the least. Numerical results on real power market show that the novel inverse proportional function-based repeated-feedback adjustment strategy brought forward in the article achieves better effect than the linear one, that is to say, the adjustments times and standard error of the residuals are less. Meanwhile, profit and whole social welfare are more. The proposed strategy can obtain more steady and dependable consumption load close to the optimal power supply, which is conducive to the balanced supply of electric energy.

For the dynamic adjustment strategy of intelligent rail guide vehicle, the dynamic planning model has been built with the longest working time in the paper. In solving this problem, the longest target of the rail guide vehicles’ running time is converted to find the optimal moving path of the rail guide vehicles. Drawing on the shortest path idea, the model uses the Floyd algorithm and the simulated annealing algorithm. The longest running time of the rail guide vehicles in the model is the innovation point in the paper. When the rail guide vehicles path is optimal, when the rail guide vehicles is the busiest, the system is the most efficient.

Abstract:
This paper introduces a technique for modeling manufacturing systems using block diagrams. The blocks represent linear transformations of dimensionless noise vectors to normalized quality characteristic vectors. These block diagrams are used to model on-line adjustment procedures using generalized inverses. This adjustment strategy is shown to guarantee minimum quality loss as defined by Taguchi if the required adjustments have no active constraints, and is effective for coupled linear systems. The surface mount of large body packages serves as an example of the modeling techniques. Block diagrams of the surface mount process are developed for a production system incorporating on-line adjustments and for the same system without adjustments. Data from preproduction runs support the model’s predictions of bias, variance, and yield.

Abstract:
As an ectotherm class, reptiles' thermoregulation has unique mechanisms through the combination of physiological traits, behavioral adjustments, and environmental aspects. Reptiles need to do thermoregulation since their body temperature is affected by environmental aspects. Reptiles experience physiological status, which plays an important role in thermoregulatory behavior. This study explores the response of reptiles' thermoregulation strategy under various physiological states, representing facts about the complex thermoregulation mechanism. Specific physiological statuses such as life stage, reproduction status, immune and health system, dehydration, and digestive have been deeply explored by researchers to identify the effects of these traits on reptiles' thermoregulation strategies. These traits significantly affect reptiles' body temperature, such as having low Tb under the dehydration state and choosing higher Tb to promote food digestion under the digestive state. However, the consistency of these results may vary among reptile species that refer more to behavioral adjustment and mating process rather than physiological status. Different life stages and reproduction statuses also influence reptiles' thermoregulation strategy and implicate the evolutionary mechanism for gravid females to obtain a thermally suitable environment, especially for their embryos. Under behavioral adjustments, reptiles alter microhabitat selection to encounter low thermal environments such as water desiccation or climate change threats. Further research that combines physiological traits, behavioral adjustment, and environmental aspects through a biophysical model can contribute to demonstrating how thermoregulation strategies may compromise different physiological statuses. For reptiles, climate change is strongly associated with population loss. Therefore, this study with relevant topics may stand as a proxy for conservation regulation and policymakers to reduce unfavorable thermal environment aspects through habitat degradation.

Full text
Abstract:
In this work, an optimal state feedback control strategy is proposed for non-linear, distributed-parameter processes. For different values of a given parameter susceptible to upsets, the strategy involves off-line computation of a repository of optimal open-loop states and gains needed for the feedback adjustment of control. A gain is determined by minimizing the perturbation of the objective functional about the new optimal state and control corresponding to a process upset. When an upset is encountered in a running process, the repository is utilized to obtain the control adjustment required to steer the process to the new optimal state. The strategy is successfully applied to a highly non-linear, gas-based heavy oil recovery process controlled by the gas temperature with the state depending non-linearly on time and two spatial directions inside a moving boundary, and subject to pressure upsets. The results demonstrate that when the process has a pressure upset, the proposed strategy is able to determine control adjustments with negligible time delays and to navigate the process to the new optimal state.

Abstract:
The high dropout rate among undergraduates has drawn the concerns of policymakers and educators. Studies suggested that the dropout is relevant to poor academic adjustment, and to poor academic adjustment is associated with perfectionism and coping strategies. This study adopts the personality-coping-outcome theory as a framework to examine whether coping strategies mediate the effects of perfectionism on academic adjustment. Two hundred eleven undergraduate students participated in the online survey through the purposive sampling method. They were asked to fill in the Short-Almost perfect scale, simplified coping style questionnaire and academic adjustment scale. The results showed that both perfectionism and coping strategies are associated with academic adjustment, and perfectionism is associated with coping strategies. Besides, coping strategies are statistical mediators for the effects of perfectionism on academic adjustment. The findings support the application of personality-coping-outcome theory in the areas of academic adjustment. Workshops can be provided to students to train their use of appropriate coping strategies while facing academic adjustment issues.

Abstract:
Purpose – The paper aims to address how firms make strategic adjustment to the changing resource availability in different monetary policy conditions and how the stickiness of cost influences the strategic adjustment, and to dig out the major internal and industrial factors that influence the relationship between strategic change and monetary policy conditions. Design/methodology/approach – The mechanism of how monetary policy affects strategic change is expounded by resource-based view and transaction cost theory. The balanced panel data of 422 companies of manufacturing industry listed in Chinese A share market before the end of 2003 from 2004-2013 are selected as sample to test the theoretic hypotheses. Findings – It was found that looser monetary policy results in greater strategic change than the tighter one for the high adjustment cost. External capital dependence and industrial competition intensity strengthen the positive correlation between monetary policy condition and strategic change. Private firms are more susceptible to money supply condition change compared with state-owned enterprises. Companies tend to expand investment on fixed asset but to shrink investment on R & D and trademark in looser money supply condition. Practical implications – Companies make bigger strategic adjustment in looser monetary policy condition for the greater availability of financial resources and lower market risk, but smaller adjustment in the tight one. However, owing to the sunk cost and the high adjustment cost, companies are not suggested to make aggressive strategic adjustment in the loose monetary conditions so as to avoid overcapacity and financial risk in tight monetary policy condition. For the policy-maker, as loose monetary policy cannot stimulate innovation but boost expansion on capacity, it is better to strengthen the resources configuration mechanism of monetary policy when making monetary policy. Originality/value – This paper fulfils a theoretic gap to study the mechanism of how monetary policy influence corporate strategic resource reconfiguration via affecting the resource base of a company by combining resource-based view and transaction cost theory.

Abstract In order to ensure that the UAV cluster remains electromagnetically silent during the attempted formation flight, so that the emission of electromagnetic wave signalsj is minimised, a purely azimuthal passive positioning method can be used to adjust the position of the UAVs. As it is difficult to keep the UAVs in formation flying on the same horizontal plane for a long time and the initial position information of the UAVs is not known. Therefore, this paper uses the sine and cosine theorems of in-plane triangles to connect slightly deviating UAVs to a determined UAV position, and in combination with the characteristics of the model, constructs a greedy criterion based on the minimum number of UAVs required to transmit the signal, and in this way gives an adjustment scheme for the UAV position.

Abstract:
The present study investigates the relevance of capital structure dynamics in Indian context by examining the speed at which firms adjust towards their target capital structure. Apart from symmetric adjustment speed, the study also investigates the asymmetries in adjustment speed based on profitability of firms. Using partial adjustment framework on an unbalanced panel of 28,532 firm-year observations comprising 2,718 listed firms over a period of 2004–2005 to 2015–2016, the study finds that Indian firms maintain target leverage and adjust towards the same with a moderate annual adjustment speed of around 32 per cent. The study further observes that high-profitability firms, in general, adjust significantly faster than low-profitability firms which possibly indicate better accessibility in the financial market, lesser costs of adjustments and ability to adjust payout ratio for the former than the latter. Further investigation reveals that high-profitability firms make more adjustment in case of over-leverage, whereas low-profitability firms make more adjustment in case of under-leverage. These results possibly indicate the implications of availability of internally generated funds. Overall, the study concludes that adverse selection cost plays important role in the target adjustment process and hence, both trade-off theory and pecking order theory have relevance in Indian context.

Abstract:
China’s steel industry has not yet implemented a carbon tax policy, and its benefits and impacts are still in the theoretical research stage. In addition, enterprises have an insufficient ability to respond to changes in production and sales, which seriously affects the market’s stability. The government should simultaneously start from multiple perspectives, such as energy conservation, emission reduction, dynamic adjustments, and business decisions. Therefore, this research constructs a repeated dynamic game model including carbon tax policy and other mixed reduction policies, and studies the stability and related indicators of the market. The results are as follows: (1) the output adjustment policies that enterprises can implement will show an increasing trend under the single carbon tax policy. (2) The output adjustment policies that enterprises with larger output will also show an increasing trend under the mixed emission reduction policy when emission reduction targets continue to increase. (3) Smaller-output enterprises need to be more cautious in formulating their production plans, and their output adjustment policies will be restricted and affected by more factors. In summary, enterprises should comprehensively consider emission reduction policies, output adjustment policies and other enterprises’ output changes, to ensure that the steel market will not fall into an imbalanced state.

Full text
Abstract:
Fisheries harvest policies are formulated under uncertainty because estimates of stock abundance and biological parameters are imprecise. However, allowable harvests are often based solely on point estimates of these quantities, essentially ignoring uncertainty. Some fishery scientists have advocated adjusting harvest levels downward to account for uncertainty, but few formal methods have been developed to determine how large these "uncertainty adjustments" should be. We describe an age-structured simulation model that explicitly incorporated uncertainty in parameters of the stock–recruitment relationship, errors in abundance estimates, and year-to-year variability in recruitment and calculated which uncertainty adjustment was optimal in terms of expected discounted yield. The optimal adjustment varied considerably, depending on the stock and harvest policy simulated. The increase in expected value from incorporating the adjustment into the harvest policy was usually small, except when we modeled a biological "threshold", where overharvests could lead to an irreversible stock collapse. Therefore, while our analysis suggests that basing harvest decisions solely on the best point estimates may often be an approximately optimal strategy, it also indicates that large adjustments may sometimes be appropriate. Consequently, fishery managers should avoid making arbitrary adjustments for uncertainty, and instead derive the optimal adjustment for each situation.

Abstract:
[Purpose] We investigated the relation between competitive strategy and cash holding process, focusing on the level of cash holdings, the speed of adjustment in cash, and the direction of SOA.
[Methodology] From 2002 to 2017, empirical analysis was conducted targeting the domestic capital market. Here, the research methodology of Bentley et al.(2013) was used for the competitive strategy, and the method of Opler et al.(1999) was used for the cash holding policy.
[Findings] we find that competitive strategy is associated with cash holding process including cash holding levels, speed of adjustment in cash, and the direction of SOA. Firms pursuing differentiation strategy is negatively associated with cash holding level, which indicates the strategy partially affect the cash holding level. Secondly, we find that average firms’ SOA is 37.7% and the SOA of firms with competitive is 43.8.%. Lastly, we find that asymmetry speed of adjustment in cash depending on the direction of deviation from the target as we expected.
[Implications] This study contributes to expanding the perception of the field of management accounting research in that it empirically analyzes the strategy execution premium as the relationship between the competitive strategy measurable by corporate financial information and the cash holding policy, which is one of the operational processes.

Modern game developers have acknowledged the necessity of a system which adjusts the gameplay experience for gamers. Part of this system of adjustments is called dynamic difficulty adjustment which, as its name suggests, adjusts the difficulty of the game depending on information collected during gameplay. There are many approaches to accomplish this task, amongst which are to change the behavior of the computer-controlled characters according to the player’s patterns of behavior detected from a survey of past actions. This paper introduces a method to collect and process information regarding player action selections to produce an estimated model of the player’s strategy. The estimated player’s model is then used to determine the computer characters’ strategy to keep the game not too easy and not too hard.

Abstract:
In recent years, UAV formations have garnered significant attention in fields such as reconnaissance, communications, and transportation. This paper aims to design an efficient passive localization method for UAV formations that satisfies system electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements. A self-adjustment model characterized by internally active communication and externally silent operation for UAV formations is proposed, which optimizes the positions of the UAVs under test based on their current locations and standard reference positions while adhering to formation geometry constraints. By comprehensively considering constraints including the number of UAVs, formation geometry, and system EMC, this study evaluates electromagnetic radiation interference within the UAV formation system and derives an iterative adjustment scheme for formation positions. Finally, simulation experiments through specific case studies calculate polar radius deviations and polar angle deviations during the adjustment process. The results validate that the proposed method meets the requirements for both formation adjustment and EMC, thereby providing a more scientific basis for passive localization and position adjustment in UAV formations.

Abstract:
At present, the problems of homogenization and low quality in China’s iron and steel industry are particularly prominent and the ability of the enterprises to cope with change is insufficient. Adopting product differentiation strategy and dynamic adjustment strategy can allow steel enterprises and the industry to better adapt to future changes. By introducing the product differentiation degree (substitution coefficient) and the bounded rationality strategy to simulate these two strategic means, this paper constructs an extended two-stage dynamic game model to analyse the dynamic game scenarios and steel market stability in China. As new findings, we report the following: (1) The system is more likely to fall into an unbalanced state when multiple enterprises adopt the policy of dynamic output adjustment simultaneously. (2) Enterprises with large output and small output have different output adjustment policies. When enterprises with big-scale output adopt a bit larger adjustment policies, enterprises with small output will be strongly impacted, and the available adjustment space will be sharply compressed. (3) The gradual increase in the difference between products reduces the stability of the market. (4) When product differentiation and bounded rationality strategies coexist, the steel market may fall into an unbalanced state when the degree of product difference increases excessively and the enterprise adopts more drastic output adjustment policies. Therefore, there are pros and cons to product differentiation strategy and bounded rationality adjustment strategy. When each steel oligopoly enterprise formulates a production plan, it needs to comprehensively consider the output changes of the other enterprises and carefully weigh the strategic issues.

Abstract:
A novel global harmony search (NGHS) algorithm, as proposed in 2010, is an improved algorithm that combines the harmony search (HS), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and a genetic algorithm (GA). Moreover, the fixed parameter of mutation probability was used in the NGHS algorithm. However, appropriate parameters can enhance the searching ability of a metaheuristic algorithm, and their importance has been described in many studies. Inspired by the adjustment strategy of the improved harmony search (IHS) algorithm, a dynamic adjusting novel global harmony search (DANGHS) algorithm, which combines NGHS and dynamic adjustment strategies for genetic mutation probability, is introduced in this paper. Moreover, extensive computational experiments and comparisons are carried out for 14 benchmark continuous optimization problems. The results show that the proposed DANGHS algorithm has better performance in comparison with other HS algorithms in most problems. In addition, the proposed algorithm is more efficient than previous methods. Finally, different strategies are suitable for different situations. Among these strategies, the most interesting and exciting strategy is the periodic dynamic adjustment strategy. For a specific problem, the periodic dynamic adjustment strategy could have better performance in comparison with other decreasing or increasing strategies. These results inspire us to further investigate this kind of periodic dynamic adjustment strategy in future experiments.

Abstract:
For the problem of consistency decline during the long-term use of battery packs for high-voltage and high-power energy storage systems, a dynamic timing adjustment balancing strategy is proposed based on the charge–discharge topology. Compared with the traditional balancing strategy, the dynamic timing adjustment balance strategy is more suitable for the transient high-frequency pulse and high-rate output of a high-power energy storage system. It gives full play to the pulse output adjustment function of the integrated charge–discharge topology. The advantages of this strategy include improving the balance between battery groups, the operating capacity of the system, and improving the continuous working ability of the system. Combined with the work condition of the high-power energy storage system, a balance control model is established, and a cycle charge–discharge test platform of battery packs is built. The effectiveness and advantages of the balance strategy of dynamic timing adjustment are verified by the experiment and simulations. The balancing time is less than 2 min, and the voltage difference is less than 6 mv.

Abstract:
The focus of this study is on optimizing the schedule adjustment scheme of shared designated driver ferry vehicles to obtain a sustainable and energy-efficient system to pick up and drop off designated drivers to serve drunk customers. A two-stage matching model for driver and customer supply and demand matching and driver ferry vehicle dispatching is designed in order to optimize the total distance travelled and minimize the generalized deviation costs. A maximum residual time adjustment algorithm is designed to reduce the logarithm of new interference demand, and a tabu search algorithm is used to solve the schedule adjustment scheme for ferry vehicles. The validity of the model and the algorithm is verified by a multiperiod example constructed in the Solomon test question bank. The result of numerical experiments shows that the proposed model and algorithm can solve the disruption adjustment scheduling strategy of shared designated driver ferry vehicles. The integrated optimization strategy can effectively improve the utilization rate and the operation efficiency of the shared driver ferry vehicles to reduce operation cost and energy consumption.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a hexapod robot posture control method for rugged terrain to solve the problem of difficulty in realizing the posture control of a foot robot in rough terrain. The walking gait and original position of a six-legged robot is planned, and the Layer Identification of Tracking (LIT) strategy is developed to enable the robot to distinguish mild rugged terrain and severe rugged terrains automatically. The virtual suspension dynamic model is established. In mild rugged terrain, the posture maintenance strategy is adopted to keep the stability of the torso. In severe rugged terrain, the posture adjustment strategy is adopted to ensure the leg workspace and make it more widely adapt to the changing terrain, and a gravity center position adjustment method based on foot force distribution is designed to use foot force as feedback to control the position and attitude. The experiment of posture control in rough terrain and climbing experiment in the ladder terrain shows that the hexapod robot has good posture maintenance and posture adjustment effects when traversing complex terrain through the posture maintenance strategy and the posture adjustment strategy. Combined with the terrain identification method based on LIT, the hexapod robot can successfully climb the ladder terrain through the identification of the changing ladder terrain, and the movement of the posture adjustment process is stable.

Abstract:
The enhancement of the intelligent construction of the power grid and widespread popularity of smart meters enable large amounts of electrical energy consumption data to be collected and analyzed. Based on the data, the energy provider gives a guiding price in the future periods to users. It encourages users to be more economical and smarter in the process of using electricity. By applying the social welfare model to equate demand and supply in every time interval, we gain the optimal prices and generation capacity. Nevertheless, the truth is that there is a great gap between the consumers’ booked electrical energy consumption and the optimal generation capacity, causing the power system overload and even outage. This article puts forward a novel automatic process control strategy in order to monitor the gap between the consumers’ booked electrical energy consumption and optimal generation capacity by using statistical method to predict the future one. When the predicted value exceeds the boundary, the energy provider adopts the changeable electricity price to stimulate consumers to adjust their electrical energy demands so that it can have smoothly actual electrical energy consumption. Our adjustment method is data-driven exponential function-based adjustment. Case study results show that the strategy can obtain small adjustment times, stable actual consumption load, and controllable prediction errors. Different from the linear monitoring and adjustment strategy, our approach obtains almost the same adjustment frequency, less standard deviation of residuals, and higher total social welfare and energy provider profit.

Abstract:
This research analyzed the fiscal adjustment processes of an important segment of Spanish municipalities (Galicia), and verified procyclical fiscal policy adjustments. The severity of municipal fiscal deficits and their persistence led to a strategy of targeted cuts. Contradicting the literature, expenses in providing core services were most affected. These cuts were partially offset by increased resources from other public administrations. We have not been able to verify significant adjustments in administrative expenses, which could be explained by the hypothesis of the budgetary maximization of the bureaucrats.

Abstract:
The embedded boost power factor correction (PFC), which is realized by a storable duty cycle control method, has been verified that it can achieve good performance when the input voltage is standard sinusoidal signal. But the input current can not keep the good sinusoidal waveform all the time when the amplitude of the input voltage changes. In order to solve the problem, this paper presents a duty cycle adjustment strategy for embedded boost power factor correction. This strategy can adjust the duty cycle data synchronously when the amplitude of the input voltage changes. Its test results show that the adjustment strategy can achieve better performance to make the input current follow the shape and phase of the input voltage. The proposed duty cycle adjustment strategy can get the embedded boost power factor correction more effective and practical.

Abstract:
American grand strategy has undergone repeated changes in recent years. This essay clarifies the nature of those changes and offers an explanation for them. US foreign policymakers have had four basic strategic alternatives: a strategy of disengagement; a strategy of balance of power; a strategy of primacy; and a strategy of liberal internationalism. The Bush administration experimented with two of these strategies, and initiated two major strategic adjustments after coming into power: the first, early in 2001, by moving from Clinton's liberal internationalist approach towards a strategy of realism; the second, after the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, by moving from a realist approach towards a strategy of American primacy. International structural pressures cannot explain why either of these changes occurred. The real explanation lies in the influence of distinctive policy ideas, as promoted by leading state officials. The irony of this twofold strategic adjustment is that the realists of the Bush administration have returned to many of the Wilsonian assumptions that characterised the Clinton years.
