Abstract:

Abstract:
There are many different versions, two most notable, of the relationship between Alfred Adler and Sigmund Freud. Adler asserted he had never been a disciple of Freud, and Freud maintained that Adler was his follower and had broken away from him. However, the truth, much like in all things, is much more complicated. Because of political strategies and other factors, the narrative has changed over time, morphing from the original true story, that Freud and Adler disagreed about many aspects of the two theories — Psychoanalysis and Adler’s own Individual Psychology — eventually leading to Freud’s calculated disavowal of Adler in 1911. Through the careful exploration of available contemporary texts and the use of archival data, mainly from The Minutes of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society and other correspondence, Adler and Freud’s complex personal relationship and theoretical disagreements can be traced throughout the years.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
For close to fifty years, Cyrus Adler was one of American Jewry's most influential communal leaders and public servants. Taking part in the founding of the Jewish Publication Society (1888), on whose various committees he would serve as chairman throughout his life, Adler was a founder of the American Jewish Historical Society (1892), and its president for more than twenty years. Together with Louis Marshall, Jacob Schiff, Oscar Straus, Felix Warburg, and his cousin, Judge Mayer Sulzberger, Adler played an instrumental role in organizing the American Jewish Committee (1906), and served as its president from 1929 until his death in 1940. During his thirtytwo years (1908–1940) as president and chief administrative officer of the Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning, Adler shaped the institution into one of the preeminent institutions of higher Jewish learning in America. When Solomon Schechter died in 1915, Adler succeeded him to the presidency of the Jewish Theological Seminary, with which he had been closely associated since its founding in 1886, while remaining president of Dropsie as well. Serving as president of the seminary for twenty-five years, Adler played a central role in the founding of the United Synagogue, whose presidency he also held.

Abstract:
This style first appeared in 1925 and developed until 1940. The name art deco comes from the exhibition entitled Paris exposition des Art Decorations et industries in 1925 in France. Art deco is simply a combination of various styles and currents in the early 20th century, including the styles of constructionism, cubism, modernism, bauhaus, art nouveau, and futurism. The modern architectural movement that was developing at that time also influenced the art deco style and provided modern touches. This Europe architectural style was adopted in various building of America as caused by their condition in industrial revolution period. One of the buildings that experiencing the euphoria of art deco concept was Adler planetarium, which at that time was very different from the function of art deco buildings in general, that tended to be commercial and multi-storey. This study aims to analyze the application of art deco in Adler planetarium. The method used to analyze the exterior of the building is a qualitative descriptive method, means by collecting adequate literature data from articles, journals and books related to the art deco building style and Adler's planetarium, then the data obtained is used as a description guide on the application of art deco in the planetarium Adler. In addition, researchers will also observe every shape and color combination of several images in the Adler planetarium section. The conclusion from this research is that Adler planetarium is fully adapting art deco architecture by their decorative style as the shape of the building, the usage of zodiac decoration in exterior and interior, and also their marmer material that commonly used by art deco building.

ABSTRACT: The current war against Ukraine awakened the wish to look over Adler’s shoulder during World War I, when he served as a military neurologist. The literature review revealed an obituary on Adler written by Dr. Maksymilian Blassberg that provides some interesting details about Adler’s service at Kraków’s military hospital, which, in the context of existing field letters written by Adler, allows one to fill in some missing links and to draw a psycho biography of Adler during this difficult time. The parallels of his life stimulate us to think about the dangers and conditions of today’s wars.
