Abstract:
In response to requests from accounting firms and companies that hire graduates of the Culverhouse School of Accountancy (CSA) at the University of Alabama (UA), the CSA was awarded a permanent increase in funding to enhance its Accounting Information Systems (AIS) course offerings. As a result of this, two new faculty were hired to teach AIS courses and a Collaborative Learning Lab (CLL) was constructed in the College of Commerce and Business Administration (CBA) computer center. Prior to this change, the AIS curriculum consisted of one undergraduate course and one graduate course in AIS. Two new courses were added to the curriculum, one each at the graduate and undergraduate levels. This past year I was responsible for the senior level AIS course, Accounting 489 (AC 489). Since there was no pre-specified list of topics to be covered in this course, I decided to use the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) top-ten technology issues list as a basis for the content of the course. This paper briefly describes the AIS curriculum at UA and then discusses challenges faced when defining AC 489, the structure of AC 489, and an evaluation of the course based on my experiences this past year.

Abstract:
This article presents an integrated approach to teaching a graduate-level public financial management course. It stresses the importance of fundamental budgeting proficiencies (e.g., cost allocation; forecasting; operating within constraints; and using Microsoft Excel) and additional skills that tend to receive less attention in financial management courses (e.g., cost–benefit analysis and analyzing audited financial reports). It also links financial management with broader issues in public administration (e.g., accountability and civic engagement). The course design makes use of both case studies and interactive simulation assignments. Anecdotal and empirical evidence suggest this approach is well-received by students. The article includes several options for modifying the course to fit diverse programmatic needs.

Abstract:
Michael Genovese's summer 1985 article, “Politics and Science Fiction Films,” is an excellent introduction to the broader topic of futurism and forecasting as methods of public policy analysis. These methods can be an interesting and challenging aspect of a graduate public administration course in public policy analysis.“The future does not simply happen. We create it. We can choose our future.” Accepting this assumption, I have integrated futures studies and forecasting into the Troy State University European Region graduate public administration course, “Policy and Decision Making in Government.” The course is a required component of a master's degree program offered under contract with the U.S. Air Force European Command. I have taught the course seven times, at bases in England, Turkey, Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands.

Abstract:
This paper discusses one teaching approach for practice administration and interpretation of the MMPI-2 in a graduate course on personality assessment. After graduate students practice scoring and interpreting the MMPI-2 inventory completed with specific response sets and practice interpreting MMPI-2 profiles of cases prepared for teaching and practice in interpretation, students practice administering and interpreting the MMPI-2 for volunteer test-takers who complete the inventory with a simulated stress response set. The simulated stress response set approach may be helpful in providing skill-building practice in the early phases of learning the MMPI-2 with volunteer test-takers, while minimizing some of the ethical concerns raised regarding actual administrations with nonclient volunteers in the early phases of training in assessment.

Abstract:
Studies of graduate students learning to administer the Wechsler scales have generally shown that training is not associated with the development of scoring proficiency. Many studies report on the reduction of aggregated administration and scoring errors, a strategy that does not highlight the reduction of errors on subtests identified as most prone to error. This study evaluated the development of scoring proficiency specifically on the Wechsler (WISC–IV and WAIS–III) Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Similarities subtests during training by comparing a set of ‘early test administrations’ to ‘later test administrations.’ Twelve graduate students enrolled in an intelligence-testing course participated in the study. Scoring errors (e.g., incorrect point assignment) were evaluated on the students' actual practice administration test protocols. Errors on all three subtests declined significantly when scoring errors on ‘early’ sets of Wechsler scales were compared to those made on ‘later’ sets. However, correcting these subtest scoring errors did not cause significant changes in subtest scaled scores. Implications for clinical instruction and future research are discussed.

Bonawitz, Mary Feeney. "Analysis and comparison of the moral development of students required to graduate with an ethics course." FIU Digital Commons, 2002. http://digitalcommons.fiu.edu/etd/1726.

Full text
Abstract:
Accounting students become practitioners facing ethical decision-making challenges that can be subject to various interpretations; hence, the profession is concerned with the appropriateness of their decisions. Moral development of these students has implications for a profession under legal challenges, negative publicity, and government scrutiny. Accounting students moral development has been studied by examining their responses to moral questions in Rest's Defining Issues Test (DIT), their professional attitudes on Hall's Professionalism Scale Dimensions, and their ethical orientation-based professional commitment and ethical sensitivity. This study extended research in accounting ethics and moral development by examining students in a college where an ethics course is a requirement for graduation. Knowledge of differences in the moral development of accounting students may alert practitioners and educators to potential problems resulting from a lack of ethical understanding as measured by moral development levels. If student moral development levels differ by major, and accounting majors have lower levels than other students, the conclusion may be that this difference is a causative factor for the alleged acts of malfeasance in the profession that may result in malpractice suits. The current study compared 205 accounting, business, and nonbusiness students from a private university. In addition to academic major and completion of an ethics course, the other independent variable was academic level. Gender and age were tested as control variables and Rest's DIT score was the dependent variable. The primary analysis was a 2x3x3 ANOVA with post hoc tests for results with significant p-value of less than 0.05. The results of this study reveal that students who take an ethics course appear to have a higher level of moral development (p=0.013), as measured by the (DIT), than students at the same academic level who have not taken an ethics course. In addition, a statistically significant difference (p=0.034) exists between freshmen who took an ethics class and juniors who did not take an ethics class. For every analysis except one, the lower class year with an ethics class had a higher level of moral development than the higher class year without an ethics class. These results appear to show that ethics education in particular has a greater effect on the level of moral development than education in general. Findings based on the gender specific analyses appear to show that males and females respond differently to the effects of taking an ethics class. The male students do not appear to increase their moral development level after taking an ethics course (p=0.693) but male levels of moral development differ significantly (p=0.003) by major. Female levels of moral development appear to increase after taking an ethics course (p=0.002). However, they do not differ according to major (p=0.0 97). These findings indicate that accounting students should be required to have a class in ethics as part of their college curriculum. Students with an ethics class have a significantly higher level of moral development. The challenges facing the profession at the current time indicate that public confidence in the reports of client corporations has eroded and one way to restore this confidence could be to require ethics training of future accountants.

Abstract:
The qualification of Directors of Education requires a thorough evaluation of the training being developed. An effective evaluation of a college degree necessarily involves the analysis of its graduates. The Undergraduate Program in Business Administration from Universidade Federal de Santa Maria - UFSM object of this study, it was the reality of its graduates surveyed. The previous study, Management and Training Labor Market, was written by Vitor Francisco Junior Schuch in 1978. In this context, the present study was conducted along with the alumni of the course of Directors - UFSM formed in the period 2005 to 2009. The results expected from this research was the knowledge of the reality of their work identifying 359 graduates of career development, the difficulties and expectations of continuing education. The objective was to identify the graduates in the market and analyze the skills front of his academic background and how the course contributes to the development of skills that the curriculum intended. The strategy used in this study can be characterized as a case study with quantitative descriptive approach, as intended to study and describe characteristics of the researched reality. The data collection survey was conducted through two structured questionnaires. The questionnaire I was destined to graduates who are working in the profession, and is divided into four parts. The questionnaire II was directed to the graduates who were not working in the profession containing two blocks. The main result that contacted the majority of graduates of the course of Directors of UFSM is not performing the occupation for which they were prepared to compare with the study in 1978. This finding may be due to the significant expansion of Higher Education Institutions - IES Administration in Brazil. Another reason for the failure to exercise the profession, based on survey data is that the vast majority of those who are not exercising the profession have obtained work activity other than a graduate or remain in employment who performed before completing the course. The results also indicate the development of skills suggested by the proposed national curriculum guidelines for the Administration Course for graduation.

The postgraduate education field in Brazil has gone through several changes over time, mainly related to its evaluation system. Such a system was implemented in 1976 original form and function was to develop education and research in the country. The first evaluation was mainly a result of the proposed development in each particular program (CAPES, 2014 s / p). The last major change in the system occurred in 1998, when it was deployed Qualis Ranking (VI PGNP, 2010), a stratification system that classifies vehicles disclosure of intellectual production (CAPES, 2004 s / p). Thus, the evaluation shall be taken from the analysis of the quality of the disclosure vehicles, or work quality is considered accepted if a vehicle which has good score QUALIS system. Thus, educational organizations tend to require their professors / researchers more production items to convert them into publication, aiming to win dominant positions on the field. In this sense, the logic of productivity is within the field of the country graduate governed by the excessive production of articles to achieve maximum points. These changes now reach the field of teaching in graduate management in the state of Rio de Janeiro, an area where are concentrated the main field programs. It seems possible to say that this marked change in the evaluation system led to a restructuring of the field, where the agents begin to modify their practices to suit the evaluation and gain more power. Thus, the objective of the study is to understand how the logic of productivity influenced the power struggles among organizations that make up the administration in post-graduate course in the state of Rio de Janeiro, from the theoretical perspectives of Bourdieu. The author sees the field as a force interactions of space between the officers with a particular type of capital among the different existing types, to conquer the field domain.

Abstract:
The entry into higher education is considered an important decision to be made by students. The choice of profession to be followed appears as one of the concerns of young people, since numerous variables contribute that certain areas are more atractive than others. However it is known that at the moment are considered various aspects, among which stand out the economic and social context. On the other hand, the conclusion of college course shows to the graduates as a reflexion of the professional carreer chosen. The ease of obtaining a university degree makes, for recent graduates, the competitive market and makes it difficult the insertion process on the labor market. This study aims to understand the insertion of expectations in the job and career development market of those who are completing higher education, and to evaluate the professional experiences of the graduates of the course of Directors of a Private Higher Education Institution in city of Imperatriz, Maranhão state. An exploratory field research was performed out with quantitative and qualitative approach. Were studied 74 students who are in the penultimate and last semester by means of questionnaires, and will be studied 12 recent college graduates using semi-structured interviews. The datas from the questionnaires were analyzeds using quantitatives techniques with the help of Excel software and the material collected in the interviews will be analyzed using qualitative techniques and content analyzes. The results show that students have highs expectations of the labor market as administrator. On the other hand graduates are still in search of continuous improvement, growth opportunities and improvements in their professional careers. It can be concluded that occur visions of diverging market between them, especially with regard to the experiences and expectations related to the course of Administration.

Abstract:
The development of new teaching standards for the state of California directly affects the development of undergraduate teachers, their preparation for the educational field and their decision to remain teaching in the field of education. As a result, innovated curriculum has been developed to meet the new standards. One course in particular is the Dean's Team course at California State University, Stanislaus. This study analyzed perceptions of teaching and perceptions of effective behavior elicited by participating in the Dean's Team course, and enhanced the Dean's Team student's decision to continue a career in teaching. Statistical results of case study research (and emails), an interview and survey results suggest that pairing with subject matter and content standards in the college classroom improves student leader skills and abilities to teach effectively in the elementary classroom as well as influencing the decision to remain in the field of education (teaching). Developing and implementing a Dean's Team course within the Liberal Studies curriculum is a way to improve the learning, the future teaching experience of undergraduate students and their decision to remain in the field of teaching.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to describe how meaning was socially constructed within a task-based small cooperative learning group. The group was composed of five native English and English as a Second Language speaking teachers and teachers-in-training enrolled in a graduate course entitled "Curriculum Development for Heterogeneous Classes" in the Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies Department in the School of Education at the University of Massachusetts. This study examined the claim that participants in cooperative learning groups must be willing to set their personal beliefs, desires, and agendas aside in order to focus their attention on the learning needs of their peers and to shift the attention of their peers to explicitly relevant information (Gee, 1990). Further, groupwork is described as an interactional experience that involves conflict, tension, and individual risk-taking behaviors (McCutcheon, 1995). This study examined the claim that these behaviors can have a positive effect on a group's process when the willingness to analyze conflict and tension through the risk-taking process of revealing one's experience, perception, and self are present (McCutcheon, 1995). This study researched these claims by investigating the discourse of a small cooperative learning group in this course. This study provides an ethnographic thick description of the normative patterns that emerged through the group's work. These include the communicative norms that were co-constructed prior to and after the naming and analyzing of conflict. The results of this study reveal that participants were willing to focus their attention onto the needs of their peers and were willing to focus the attention of their peers to explicitly relevant information after conflict was named. Analyzing conflict was not easily obtained in this group. Members avoided and resisted this process. However, naming conflict was seen to have a purpose in this cooperative learning group and provided a rich source of insight about the complexities of conflict, tension, and individual risk-taking behaviors in cooperative learning settings composed of native English and English as a Second Language speaking learners.

Abstract:
This book has eight chapters. Each chapter discusses one topic related to taxation. The topics covered in this book are tax systems, taxpayer compliance, compliance costs, transfer pricing, accounting malpractices and tax issues, taxation of ecommerce, and electronic tax administration. These topics are relevant to the advanced taxation course in the under-graduate and post-graduate programs (Masters and PhD). Each topic is discussed with relevant literature. The first three chapters touch on issues and problems related to the new tax administrative system i.e the self-assessment system, which is being implemented in developed countries including Malaysia, and is now being adopted for implementation in many developing countries worldwide. Chapters 2, 3 and 4 give an insight to issues related to tax systems, taxpayer compliance and compliance costs. The other four chapters 5, 6, 7 and 8 discuss topics that are categorised as selected tax issues. The selected tax issues include transfer pricing, accounting malpractices and tax issues, taxation of ecommerce and electronic tax administration. These issues have not been deliberated before, and it is timely that a book of this nature is published for tax authorities, researchers, students, lecturers, authorities and practitioners. Past literature and research findings are quoted to support the discussions in each chapter. The authors own research findings in certain topics found in this book are used to support the arguments and discussions.

Abstract:
This chapter explores Michel Foucault's contribution to a critical assessment of modern and contemporary psychiatric practice. It focuses firstly on theHistory of Madness(1961): the social, political, cultural, epistemological construction of the object "psychiatric patient" and "psychiatric pathology"; the gradual historical shift from "madness" to "psychiatric pathology" and its social and epistemological consequences; the horizons and limits of the romantic task Foucault assumes on this basis (namely, the idea of letting the voice of madness come back and speak again, "under" the language and categories of medical knowledge); the critique Jacques Derrida formulated (Writing and Difference, 1967) about this project, and particularly about Foucault's reading of Descartes. Secondly, it examines Foucault's course onPsychiatric Power(1975), focusing on the sociopolitical consequences of this medicalization process: i.e., the construction of the object "psychiatric patient" as "disciplinated bodies", and the general context of this anthropological metamorphosis Foucault studied in his booksDiscipline and Punish,The Will to Knowledge, and in his courseNaissance de la biopolitique(namely, the shift, during the last two centuries, from a disciplinary model to a biopolitical model of power and, more specifically, of administration of mental illness and mental health).

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to explore the current experiences of students and professors in a Faculty of Education graduate program that has adopted blended learning. It was also intended to uncover some of the enablers and constraints faced by faculty administration in implementing a university wide blended learning initiative. Using a qualitative case study research design, a large faculty of education in a mid-sized university in Eastern Ontario, Canada was the site of the investigation. A constant comparative data analysis technique was used on three data sources, namely: key informant interviews, artefacts and field notes. Results indicated that the graduate student has specific learning requirements that necessitate attention to certain aspects of this new teaching method and that professors who teach in a blended learning format are working towards meeting the needs of such students. Enablers and constraints from an administrator's perspective in further developing blended learning are also addressed.

Abstract:
During My Nearly five decades in the academic world, the character of the university has changed, and not entirely for the better. As recently as the 1960s and 1970s, America’s universities were heavily influenced, if not completely driven, by faculty ideas and concerns. Today, institutions of higher education are mainly controlled by administrators and staffers who make the rules and set more and more of the priorities of academic life. Of course, universities have always employed administrators. When I was a graduate student in the 1960s and a young professor in the 1970s, though, top administrators were generally drawn from the faculty, and even midlevel managerial tasks were directed by faculty members. These moonlighting academics typically occupied administrative slots on a part-time or temporary basis and planned in due course to return to full-time teaching and research. Because so much of the management of the university was in the hands of professors, presidents and provosts could do little without faculty support and could seldom afford to ignore the faculty’s views. Many faculty members proved to be excellent managers. Through their intelligence, energy and entrepreneurship, faculty administrators, essentially working in their spare time, helped to build a number of the world’s premier institutions of higher education. One important reason for their success was that faculty administrators never forgot that the purpose of the university was the promotion of education and research. Their own short-term managerial endeavors did not distract them from their long-term academic commitments. Alas, today’s full-time professional administrators tend to view management as an end in and of itself. Most have no faculty experience, and even those who spent time in a classroom or laboratory hope to make administration their life’s work and have no plan to return to the faculty. For many of these career managers, promoting teaching and research is less important than expanding their own administrative domains. Under their supervision, the means have become the end.

Online learning is promoted by the Malaysian Government as a key element in the Higher Education Blueprint 2015-25 (Shift 9: Globalized Online Learning), but research in the Malaysian context is very underdeveloped. This chapter aims to fill part of this gap with a simple analysis of online Master of Business Administration (MBA) courses to examine the appetite and preferences of actual and potential MBA students for online learning. Using data from local and international students studying on MBA programs in Malaysia, the authors show that the MBA students in their sample still have a largely instrumental view of the value drivers of their study programs. The key factors identified by the largest number of groups were facilities, price, certificate authenticity, duration, and flexibility of course times.

Abstract:
This chapter assesses the incorporation of synchronous and asynchronous instructional techniques in two project-based graduate level courses in an online public administration program. These courses are eight weeks long and taken sequentially, and have a variety of assignments requiring synchronous and asynchronous interactions with instructor and peers. It evaluates the application of synchronous instructional techniques and asks if synchronous sessions result in higher student engagement and collaborative activity. Further, the study examines if synchronous sessions matter to online graduate level students. Results indicate that synchronous sessions complement asynchronous assignments by enhancing interaction with instructor and peers, and assisting with course concepts. Students benefited from these sessions and were greatly in favor of having them. However, these sessions are challenging to schedule requiring intensive pre-implementation planning and instructor engagement. It was found that both synchronous and asynchronous techniques add value to online learning.

Abstract:
Military colleges have historically been respected and viewed as results-driven institutions of higher learning. These colleges have strong reputations for producing both leaders and scholars. Though gaining admission to a military college is usually somewhat more formidable than the admission process at many civilian colleges, students are accepted with varying academic abilities, skills, and backgrounds. Most of these students, however, are retained, experience academic success, and graduate. The author describes distinct military college academic support initiatives that promote scholarly success among college students, from those who struggle to pass a course to those who want to turn a satisfactory grade into a better grade. Included in those initiatives are tutoring, advising, and mentoring. A case study of the establishment of the Academic Success Center at Marion Military Institute is included, along with data markers indicating the success of the center and its programs.

Abstract:
Cadets' character and ethical quality are crucial; they determine the kind of officers who will join the Air Force after they graduate. The texts relating to the ethical traditions aim at building the cadets' character and lay out all the values and principles that a future officer should uphold. In this context, this chapter seeks to investigate the extent to which ethical parameters are present in the Air Force Cadet Wing Honor Code. The authors then want to relate the ethical education provided to the cadets by the academy with their mission after graduation. To accomplish their duties, pilots seem to be influenced by their beliefs, their studies, and of course, the honor code; issues of ethics and the law also influence to a high degree the psychology of pilots and determine to a high extent their reactions and effectiveness. The final goal is to investigate to what extent ethics and the law influence pilots' decisions and are interpreted by fighter aircrafts' pilots of the Hellenic Air Force and attack helicopter pilots of the Hellenic Army.

Abstract:
Higher Education Institutions (HEI) are under pressure to enhance graduate employability. The concept of graduate employability refers to a mix of specific skills, knowledge, and personal attributes; among others internationalisation, innovation, and entrepreneurship skills. This paper asks the question: How can HEI enhance students’ internationalisation, innovation, and entrepreneurship skills in order to foster graduate employability? The authors provide insights into a transnational student consultancy teaching approach that was implemented simultaneously at five European HEI in the winter term of 2017/2018. The paper adds to the practical dimension of internationalisation, entrepreneurship education, and innovation pedagogy by presenting an example of how these interrelated concepts can be integrated into a course for business students. The authors discuss important challenges of implementing transnational consultancy projects at HEI, such as varying academic calendars and administrative requirements, matching student teams and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as managing expectations. Based on participant feedback, this paper draws three lessons learned for lecturers that are involved in transnational teaching projects.

This paper describes the results of a study designed to assess the practical relevance of learning objectives for a course that corresponds to the IS 2002.4 recommended guidelines for an information technology hardware and systems software course. This study represents the first step in identifying the baseline technical knowledge that IS majors should possess upon entering practice. The survey reveals a general consensus among survey participants, consisting of experienced IT academics and practitioners, that learning objectives associated with systems thinking, systems administration functions, and information assurance practices are useful. However, the survey revealed that study participants had notably different perceptions concerning the value of learning objectives associated with achieving a deeper understanding of technical concepts concerning the design and functioning of hardware and systems software. The identification of these systematically differing perceptions among IT professionals is provocative and warrants further investigation.

Abstract:
The benefits of company sponsored capstone design projects, both to academia and to industry, have been well established. At Rose-Hulman the benefits to students include the broadening of their engineering skills, the required interaction with practicing engineers, the strengthening of teaming skills by working in design groups, the development of communication skills with required oral and written reports, and the experiences of project management. These projects are "owned and managed" by the student teams with company contacts providing appropriate data and information and with faculty serving as advisors only. The authors have developed and improved these student/industry interactions over the last few years with over 120 students working with about 30 different companies each year. ABET 2000 requires that graduates demonstrate the ability to design a system, component or process to meet a given need. The capstone design course is the natural place to assess whether or not the outcome is met. It is the purpose of this paper to identify the necessary steps for soliciting, screening, and selecting the types of company projects that will enhance educational objectives and further industrial partnerships. A further purpose is to demonstrate how the course is used to assess the ABET design outcome. Finally the paper discusses how the authors have recently improved this client based design experience and the quality of the final design by utilizing project managers from Rose-Hulman Ventures (the innovation and incubation technology arm of Rose-Hulman) as "design review teams" to meet with and to serve as additional resources to the student teams.

A. Buzzetto-Hollywood, Nicole. "Findings From an Examination of a Class Purposed to Teach the Scientific Method Applied to the Business Discipline." In InSITE 2021: Informing Science + IT Education Conferences. Informing Science Institute, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.28945/4774.

Full text
Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: This brief paper will provide preliminary insight into an institutions effort to help students understand the application of the scientific method as it applies to the business discipline through the creation of a dedicated, required course added to the curriculum of a mid-Atlantic minority-serving institution. In or-der to determine whether the under-consideration course satisfies designated student learning outcomes, an assessment regime was initiated that included examination of rubric data as well as the administration of a student perception survey. This paper summarizes the results of the early examination of the efficacy of the course under consideration. Background: A small, minority-serving, university located in the United States conducted an assessment and determined that students entering a department of business following completion of their general education science requirements had difficulties transferring their understanding of the scientific method to the business discipline. Accordingly, the department decided to create a unique course offered to sophomore standing students titled Principles of Scientific Methods in Business. The course was created by a group of faculty with input from a twenty person department. Methodology: Rubrics used to assess a course term project were collected and analyzed in Microsoft Excel to measure student satisfaction of learning goals and a stu-dent satisfaction survey was developed and administered to students enrolled in the course under consideration to measure perceived course value. Contribution: While the scientific method applies across the business and information disciplines, students often struggle to envision this application. This paper explores the implications of a course specifically purposed to engender the development and usage of logical and scientific reasoning skills in the business discipline by students in the lower level of an bachelors degree program. The information conveyed in this paper hopefully makes a contribution in an area where there is still an insufficient body of research and where additional exploration is needed. Findings: For two semesters rubrics were collected and analyzed representing the inclusion of 53 students. The target mean for the rubric was a 2.8 and the overall achieved mean was a 2.97, indicating that student performance met minimal expectations. Nevertheless, student deficiencies in three crucial areas were identified. According to the survey findings, as a result of the class students had a better understanding of the scientific method as it applies to the business discipline, are now better able to critically assess a problem, feel they can formulate a procedure to solve a problem, can test a problem-solving process, have a better understanding of how to formulate potential business solutions, understand how potential solutions are evaluated, and understand how business decisions are evaluated. Conclusion: Following careful consideration and discussion of the preliminary findings, the course under consideration was significantly enhanced. The changes were implemented in the fall of 2020 and initial data collected in the spring of 2021 is indicating measured improvement in student success as exhibited by higher rubric scores. Recommendations for Practitioners: These initial findings are promising and while considering student success, especially as we increasingly face a greater and greater portion of under-prepared students entering higher education, initiatives to build the higher order thinking skills of students via transdisciplinary courses may play an important role in the future of higher education. Recommendations for Researchers: Additional studies of transdisciplinary efforts to improve student outcomes need to be explored through collection and evaluation of rubrics used to assess student learning as well as by measuring student perception of the efficacy of these efforts. Impact on Society: Society needs more graduates who leave universities ready to solve problems critically, strategically, and with scientific reasoning. Future Research: This study was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic; however, it is resuming in late 2021 and it is the hope that a robust and detailed paper, with more expansive findings will eventually be generated. *** NOTE: This Proceedings paper was revised and published in the journal Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology, 18, 161-172.
