Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: It is a well known phenomenon that people from historically disadvantaged communities, tend to do well in society despite the numerous risk factors that complicate life for them. This study has this phenomenon as it's subject. The unit of analysis of the study was Grade 12 achievers from a historically disadvantaged community. The main purpose of this study was to determine why these Grade 12 learners managed to excell academically despite the risk factors present in their community. The secondary focus of the study was to identify the risk factors that the learners had to face to eventually achieve academic success and the protective factors which contributed to their academic success. The literature review focussed on the concept "resilience" and related concepts such as risk factors, protective factors and the adolescent development phase within the framework of positive psychology, eco-systemic and asset based approaches. The research was conducted using a qualitative interpretive study approach. Seven achievers from the coloured community in the Western Cape, were interviewed. The data was analysed using qualitative content analysis. The data was discussed by placing the risk factors and the protective factors in five different systems namely, the individual, the family, the school, the peergroup and the community. The findings of the study indicate that the above systems are in constant interaction with one another and that the protective factors can be utilized to overcome the risk factors. The study thus proves that, although the participants were exposed to risk factors, they managed to display great resilience in using protective factors. The community was identified as one of the biggest risk factors, but by utilizing certain protective factors as are found in the individual, the family, the school and the peergroup, the participants were able to protect themselves against the risk factors resulting in their academic success. The personal strengths of the participants proved to be the most important protective factor in a historically disadvantaged community.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Dit is 'n bekende fenomeen dat persone wat in histories benadeelde omstandighede grootgeword het, ten spyte van risikofaktore, suksesvolle produktiewe lede van die samelewing word. Dit is juis hierdie fenomeen wat dié studie ondersoek het. Hierdie studie het pertinent bruin graad 12-presteerders uit 'n histories benadeelde gemeenskap as eenheid van analise geteiken. Die doel van hierdie studie was om uit te vind waarom graad 12-leerders ten spyte van verskeie risikofaktore binne 'n histories benadeelde gemeenskap daarin geslaag het om akademies goed te presteer. Die newevraagstellings van die studie was om uit te vind watter risikofaktore die deelnemers moes trotseer ten einde akademiese sukses te behaal en ook watter beskermingsfaktore tot hierdie deelnemers se akademiese sukses bygedra het. Die literatuuroorsig het die konsep "veerkragtigheid" en aanverwante begrippe soos risikofaktore, beskermingsfaktore en die adolessente ontwikkelingsfase binne die raamwerk van positiewe sielkunde, die ekosistemiese en bategebaseerde benaderings ondersoek. 'n Kwalitatiewe interpretatiewe studie is geloods om die navorsing uit te voer. Individuele onderhoude is met sewe presteerders uit 'n bruin gemeenskap in die Wes-Kaapprovinsie gevoer. Die data is met behulp van kwalitatiewe inhoudsanalise ontleed. Die data is bespreek deur risikofaktore en beskermingsfaktore binne vyf sisteme naamlik die individu, die gesin, die skool, die portuurgroep en die gemeenskap te plaas. Die bevindings van die studie toon dat bogenoemde sisteme in voortdurende wisselwerking met mekaar is en dat die beskermingsfaktore gebruik kan word om die risikofaktore te bowe te kom. Die bevindinge toon derhalwe dat, alhoewel die deelnemers voortdurend risikofaktore ervaar het, hulle met behulp van sekere beskermingsfaktore veerkragtigheid aan die dag kon lê. Die gemeenskap is as een van die grootste risikofaktore uitgelig, maar met behulp van sekere beskermingsfaktore soos gevind in die individu, die gesin, die skool, en die portuurgroep, kon die deelnemers hulleself teen risikofaktore buffer en akademiese sukses behaal. Die persoonlike sterktes van die deelnemers het as die belangrikste beskermingsfaktor in 'n histories benadeelde gemeenskap na vore getree.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of this investigation was to determine the needs and problems of Standard six pupils in schools controlled by the Department of Education and Culture (Administration: House of Representatives) and the extent to which these are being addressed by existing educational structures. The investigatior: consists of two parts, a literature study and an empirical investigation. The literature study consists of an examination of South African and international research relevant to the investigation. An analysis of South African and international school guidance programmes aimed at meeting the needs and solving possible problems is included and an overview is given of the role that the school, both nationally and internationally, can, is and should be playing to meet these needs and help solve these problems. The empirical investigation examined standard six pupils' problems and needs concerning extra-mural activities, relationships with peers and older pupils, teachers and parents and personal adjustment. A questionnaire to determine these needs and problems was administered to a representative random sample of secondary school pupils in the Cape Peninsula. To determine what is being done to address these needs and problems, a second questionnaire was sent to the 58 dual-medium state controlled schools in thE~ Cape Peninsula for standard Six guidance teachers. A third questionnaire was sent to the Department of Education and culture (Administration: House of Representatives) to determine whether the Department agreed that the school guidance programme for Standard six pupils had been adequately applied by the school guidance teachers. Both South African and internati.onal research indicates that many adolescents experience adjustment problems on entering secondary school. Education authorities worldwide address these problems in various ways. In South l~frica, guidance and counselling services are available through elll the education departments, but their effectiveness and implementation need to be clarified because uniform control is not being exercised. The present research showed that most of the secondary schools in the survey do not have an orientation programme to assist pupils to bridge the gap between the primary and the secondary schools. Although this research does not offer conclusive evidence that Standard Six pupils are adversely affected by their present circumstances, the following needs were established: pupils • need to belong, supported by their opinion that extra-mural activities should be compulsory pupils' need for parent~; to be more lnvolved in school activities pupils' need for satisfactory relationships with teachers pupils' need for satisfactory peer relationships. Bas~~ on the~e findings, a number of recommendations have been made. These include: a sound orientation programme and the Careful selection of teachers who are sensitive to the needs of standard six 1Jupils an extra-mural programme where teachers and senior pupils can play a significant role to enhance the formation of constructive social groups and engender a sense of belonging a guidance programme incorporating group work and which teaches coping and problem-solving skills one non-racial education department with equal financing for all pupils and a uniform system of examination and certifica.tion the establishment of "mini-schools" or "middle schools" and the adoption of extended support for pupils to reduce adjustment problems.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die doel van hierdie ondersoek was om die behoeftes en probleme van Standerd Ses-Ieerlinge in skole onder die Departement van Onderwys en Kultuur (Administrasie: Huis van Verteenwoordigers) te bepaal asook die mate waarin hierdie behoeftes en probleme deur bestaande onderwysstrukture aangespreek word. Die ondersoek bestaan uit twee dele, 'n literatuurstudie en empiriese ondersoek. Die literatuurstudie bestaan uit 'n ondersoek van relevante suidAfrikaanse en internasionale navorsing. Dit sluit ook in 'n ontleding van beide Suid-Afrikaanse en internasionale skoolvoorligtingsprogramme wat op behoeftebevrediging asook probleemoplossing gemik is. 'n Oorsig word ook gegee van die rol wat die skool, op nasionale asook internasionale vIak, kan, moet en reeds speel om behoeftebevrediging teweeg te bring. Die empiriese ondersoek het standerd Ses-leerlinge se behoeftes en probleme met betrekking tot hul houding jeens die skool, akademiese prestasie, buitemuurse aktiwiteite, verhouding met die portuurgroep en ouer leerlinge, onderwysers en ouers, en persoonlike aanpassing ondersoek. 'n Vraelys om hierdie behoeftes en probleme vas te stel is deur 'n verteenwoordigende ewekansige monster van sekondêre skool leerlinge in die Kaapse Skiereiland ingevul. Om vas te stel wat reeds gedoen word om hierdie behoeftes en probleme aan te spreek, is vraelyste aan standerd Sesvoorligtingonderwysers van die 58 dubbelmedium staatsbeheerde skole in die Kaapse Skiereiland gestuur. 'n Derde vraely- is aan die Departement van Onderwys (Administrasie: Huis van Verteenwoordigers) gestuur met die doel om vas te stel of die skoolvoorligtingsprogram vir standerd sesleerlinge doeltreffend aangewend is deur die skoolvoorligtingsonderwysers. Beide suid-Afrikaanse en internasionale navorsing toon dat baie adolessente aanpassingsprobleme ondervind by toetrede tot die sekondAre skool. Onderwysowerhede wêreldwyd spreek hierdie probleme verskillend aan. In suid-Afrika is voorligtings- en raadgewende dienste deur middel van al die onderwysdepartemente beskikbaar, maar hul effektiwiteit en implementering moet ondersoek word aangesien eenvormige kontrole nie uitgeoefen word nie. Die onderhawige navorsing het getoon dat die meeste sekondere skole in die opname nie oor 'n orienteringsprogram beskik om leerlinge te help om die gaping tussen die primere en die sekondere skool te oorbrug nie. Alhoewel hierdie ondersoek nie afdoende bewys lewer dat Standerd Ses-leerlinge deur hul huidige omstandighede benadeel word nie, is die volgende behoeftes vasgestel: - leerlinge se behoefte om in te skakel, wat ondersteun word deur hul mening dat buitemuurse aktiwiteite verpligtend behoort te wees - leerlinge se behoefte dat ouers meer betrokke moet wees by skoolaktiwiteite - leerlinge se behoefte aan bevredigende verhoudings met hul onderwysers - leerlinge se behoefte aan In bevredigende verhouding met hul portuurgroep. 'n Aantal aanbevelings is op grond van hierdie bevindinge gedoen. Full textO uso de drogas ? um fen?meno que ocorre com muita freq??ncia na adolesc?ncia, por ser um per?odo de maior vulnerabilidade, no qual o indiv?duo ainda n?o desenvolveu de forma adequada algumas habilidades. Como ? uma etapa do desenvolvimento que envolve adapta??es e mudan?as, pode propiciar o surgimento de transtornos psicol?gicos, comportamentais e sociais, entre os quais, o transtorno por uso de subst?ncias. Entre as drogas il?citas, a maconha ? a mais usada, aparecendo em primeiro lugar nas pesquisas e com maior uso por adolescentes do sexo masculino. Nos transtornos por uso de maconha, podem existir d?ficits em habilidades sociais sob a forma de baixa compet?ncia social e dificuldades espec?ficas, como enfrentamento de situa??es de risco ? auto-estima e resolu??o de problemas. O objetivo dessa disserta??o ? contribuir para o conhecimento cient?fico a partir da compreens?o dos comportamentos de intera??o social em nossa realidade, com a proposta de verificar a associa??o entre as habilidades sociais em adolescentes com abuso ou depend?ncia de maconha com as habilidades sociais de adolescentes sem uso de maconha. Esta disserta??o compreende dois estudos: uma revis?o te?rica e um estudo emp?rico. Na parte te?rica, realizou-se uma revis?o sobre as habilidades sociais em adolescentes usu?rios de maconha, atrav?s de buscas nas bases de dados Pschynfo, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Proquest, Medline e Lilacs, entre 1996 e 2006. Os descritores utilizados foram social skills, social skills training, social competence, assertiveness, adolescents, teeenagers, substance abuse, drugs abuse, cannabis e marijuana. Nas bases de l?ngua portuguesa, os descritores foram habilidades sociais, treinamento em habilidades sociais, assertividade, adolescentes, abuso de subst?ncias, drogas e maconha. Tamb?m foram analisados livros e artigos que n?o se encontravam nas refer?ncias das fontes indexadas. Encontrou-se na literatura pesquisas, em sua maioria de l?ngua inglesa, apontando a exist?ncia de d?ficits, principalmente a dificuldade em resistir ?s drogas e dizer n?o, al?m de concluir que a constru??o de habilidades de resist?ncia ao oferecimento de drogas, a auto-efic?cia e o est?mulo ? capacidade de tomada de decis?es, pode reduzir o uso de subst?ncias. Poucos estudos brasileiros foram encontrados abordando esta tem?tica. O estudo emp?rico objetivou avaliar as habilidades sociais de adolescentes usu?rios de maconha e comparar seu desempenho com n?o usu?rios de maconha, a fim de identificar se h? ou n?o maior d?ficit nas habilidades sociais no grupo de usu?rios. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: ficha de dados s?cio-demogr?ficos, entrevista cl?nica estruturada, baseada nos crit?rios do DSMIV; Invent?rio de Habilidades Sociais IHS; Screening Cognitivo do WISC-III e do WAIS-III e Invent?rios de Ansiedade e de Depress?o de Beck - BAI e BDI. A amostra total constituiu-se de 98 adolescentes, subdividida em dois grupos, 49 usu?rios de maconha e 49 n?o usu?rios de maconha, com idades entre 15 e 22 anos, e escolaridade m?nima de 5? s?rie do Ensino Fundamental. Foi um estudo quantitativo, transversal, observacional, de compara??o entre dois grupos: usu?rios de maconha e n?o usu?rios de maconha. Os resultados mostraram diferen?as significativas no screening cognitivo e na avalia??o da presen?a de sintomas de ansiedade e depress?o, com maiores preju?zos no grupo de usu?rios de maconha. Os achados finais apontam que n?o houve diferen?as estat?sticas significativas no escore geral do IHS entre o grupo de usu?rios e n?o usu?rios, mas foram encontradas diferen?as significativas entre os grupos em rela??o a dois dos cinco fatores do IHS. O grupo de usu?rios de maconha apresentou um desempenho mais prejudicado no Fator 4, Auto-exposi??o a desconhecidos ou a situa??es novas e no Fator 5, Autocontrole da agressividade a situa??es aversivas.Conclui-se com esse estudo que adolescentes usu?rios de maconha apresentam mais preju?zos nas habilidades que adolescentes n?o usu?rios de maconha. Full textEn el presente trabajo se dará a conocer la experiencia musicoterapéutica con L3, un adolecente de 15 años quién presenta Parálisis cerebral. Ésta experiencia tuvo una duración de cuatro meses entre los meses de agosto a noviembre del año 2012 realizándose una sesión semanal de 1 hora de duración, en la Escuela Especial a la cual L asiste. La experiencia musicoterapéutica realizada con L se dividió en tres etapas: la etapa de diagnostico, la etapa de desarrollo y por último la etapa de cierre. En la etapa de diagnóstico se realizaron actividades que le brindaran libertad a L para expresarse a través de los sonidos, gestos y expresión corporal con el fin de conocerlo y crear vínculo con él. En la etapa de desarrollo se sumo la actividad de relajación y se fue ampliando el tiempo de exploración y ejecución instrumental con el fin de disminuir la tensión corporal que se observo en la etapa previa. Y por último en la etapa de cierre se fue consolidando el proceso con las actividades favoritas de L y se preparo para despedida. A lo largo de la experiencia se dieron fenómenos importantes en relación a la ejecución instrumental por parte de L y también se construyeron vínculos fuertes que estimularon su trabajo de sesión en sesión, brindándole a L un espacio de bienestar y libre expresión.

Full textIn the face of the socio-cultural problems of urban violence, it is observed that there are teenage practices considered leisure that lead to damage and harm to individuals who participate in them and to society. Since contemporaneity is pervaded by superficial and volatile relationships, characteristics that are very particular of the consumerist condition that comes across the building and establishment of social ties in the current capitalist society. Therefore, this is an explanation of theoretical inferences and of field research pertaining adolescence and its leisure practices, a result of this qualitative investigation of social emphasis achieved through group work with data management proposal sustained by technical concepts of content analysis. Accordingly, the field work was developed by the mentioned group meetings over the violence theme in which it was sought through playfulness and debates to collect expressions of meanings attributed to leisure experiences of teenagers located in violent environments of the city of Fortaleza-Ceará-Brazil. As a result of this investigation, through the discussion of outcomes, central themes emerged: inter community relational division, deficient school reality, violent spectacle, threatened vital space, family as a conflicting surrounding, poor communication, varied leisure practices chosen, the individual s purposes posture. In fact, the adolescent finds itself in need to discover and unveil the existent meaning in the experiences that can bring self-knowledge and personal and social development. After all, the current sociocultural perspective is presented replete with incentives, very particular of the consumerist condition, that encourage the maintenance of immature behaviors which should be progressively surpassed in the course of the adolescent phase. Diante da problemática sociocultural da violência urbana observa-se que há práticas adolescentes consideradas como lazer que acarretam danos e prejuízos para o indivíduo que as exerce e para a sociedade. Já que na contemporaneidade encontram-se relacionamentos superficiais e efêmeros, enquanto características específicas da conjuntura consumista que perpassa a constituição dos laços sociais da atual sociedade capitalista. Assim, explana-se aqui inferências teóricas e de pesquisa de campo referentes à adolescência e suas práticas de lazer, fruto desta investigação qualitativa de enfoque social realizada através de trabalho grupal com proposta de tratamento dos dados amparado nas noções da técnica da análise de conteúdo. Sendo, pois, o trabalho de campo desenvolvido através dos referidos encontros grupais em torno da temática da violência nos quais buscou-se mediante a ludicidade e discursividade recolher expressões de sentidos atribuídos às experiências de lazer de adolescentes inseridos em âmbitos violentos da cidade de Fortaleza-Ceará-Brasil. A partir deste trabalho de pesquisa emergiram, mediante a discussão dos resultados, temas centrais: divisão relacional intra-comunitária, realidade escolar deficitária, espetáculo violento, espaço vital ameaçado, família como âmbito de conflito, precariedade comunicacional, práticas diversas de lazer elegidas, posturas de significação do vivido. Na verdade, o sujeito adolescente encontra-se necessitado de descobrir e desvelar o sentido presente nas experiências que é capaz de gerar autoconhecimento e desenvolvimento pessoal e social. Até porque a perspectiva sociocultural atual apresenta-se permeada de estímulos, próprios da sociedade de consumo, que favorecem a manutenção de posturas imaturas as quais deveriam ser progressivamente ultrapassadas ao longo do percurso da fase adolescente. Full textThe objective of this literature study was to describe the nurse’s preventive actions to prevent diabetes type 2 among children and adolescents in school age. It emerged from the analysis that the nurse is working according to three pillars; screening, lifestyle changes and counselling/education. This result showed that what often increase difficulties when working with screening are: undefined guidelines, lack of time and resources. Overweight/obesity is one of many indicators to develop diabetes type 2, therefore it is important that both BMI and waist are measured. The nurse was working actively with education and intervention, for example engaging schools to make diet changes and increase physical activity. She/he was also giving counselling to children, adolescents and their families about the disease diabetes type 2 and how it could be prevented. Barriers often experienced by the nurse in her/his preventive work were the families’ attitudes and lifestyles. There were often an expressed wish from nurses to receive guidance in their work on motivating to lifestyle changes.

Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar aspectos relevantes para a relação que os adolescentes estabelecem com a música, na esteira das discussões que a Lei 11.769, de 2008, vem provocando ao retornar o ensino obrigatório de música ao currículo escolar. Tendo como arcabouço teórico estudos ligados à Biologia e às Ciências Sociais, a investigação foi realizada com 89 adolescentes, com idade entre 10 e 16 anos, distribuídos por 7 grupos de discussão, constituídos de modos distintos: um dos grupos foi formado de maneira independente, por indicação de um professor de violão, dois grupos foram formados por alunos de uma escola particular e quatro grupos formados em um colégio federal. Para a realização dos grupos de discussão, enquanto recurso metodológico, optou-se pelas seguintes atividades: um jogo com temas relativos à música com a intenção de deixar os jovens mais à vontade e obter um levantamento prévio sobre o universo musical dos mesmos; o preenchimento de fichas com o nome, idade, as músicas, bandas e intérpretes favoritos, e os instrumentos musicais que tocam; e, em seguida, uma conversa sobre a relação daqueles jovens com a música. Na análise das atividades desenvolvidas nos grupos de discussão, foi possível levantar aspectos que tornam a música mais ou menos atraente para esses jovens – apesar da dificuldade em separar os aspectos sonoros daqueles extrínsecos à música –, bem como as funções que a música tem no cotidiano desses adolescentes. A pesquisa também procurou identificar o modo como a música chega até os jovens, passando pelas mídias utilizadas e pelas influências recebidas da família, dos amigos e dos professores. Constatou-se, ainda, o quanto esses jovens diferenciam as funções que estilos musicais diversos têm no seu cotidiano e que proveito tiram dos diferentes estados emocionais que a música é capaz de induzir.
This research aimed to investigate relevant aspects of the relationship that teenagers have with the music, in the wake of the Law 11,769, 2008, has led to return the mandatory teaching music to the school curriculum. Using the theoretical background studies related to biology and the social sciences, research was conducted with 89 adolescents between the ages of 10 and 16, over 7 discussion groups, made up of distinct categories: one group was formed independently, as selected by a guitar teacher, two groups were formed by students of a private school and four groups formed in a federal school. For the conducting of discussion groups, as a methodological resource, we chose the following activities: a game with themes related to music with the intention of allowing young people to feel more comfortable, and conduct a survey of their prior music background; filling out forms with the name, age, favorite bands, performers and songs, and musical instruments that they play; and finally a discussion about the relationship of those young people with music. By analyzing the information collected in discussion groups, it was possible to raise aspects that make the music more or less attractive to these young people – despite the difficulty in separating the sonic aspects of those extrinsic to music – as well as the rolls that music plays in daily life of these adolescents. The survey also sought to identify how young people are exposed to music, including the type of media they use, and the influences received from family, friends and teachers. It was also noted how these young people differentiate the roles that various musical styles have in their daily lives, and how they seek to experience the different emotional states that music is capable of inducing.

The Body Mass Index (BMI) was used in the nutritional assessment. Overweight was defined as the BMI equal or above to the 85 percentile and below to the 95 percentile while obesity was defined as BMI equal or above to the 95 percentile. The reference of the anthropometric measures was based on the tables provided by Must et al. (1991). The economic classification of Brazil (IBOPE) was used to determine the socioeconomic level. The overall prevalence of overweight/obesity was 19.5%; the proportion in private schools was higher than in public schools (23.9 e 18.0%, respectively). Regarding gender, the overweight incidence was similar in both types of schools; however, its prevalence among males was higher in private schools while no difference among males and females was found in public schools. Overweight/obesity prevalence among adolescents aged 10 to 14 years old was higher than among adolescents aged 15 to 19 years old. The highest rates were found in the highest SES stratum, being males and adolescents aged 10 to14 years old responsible for this difference. It was concluded that the prevalence of overweight/obesity among adolescents in the city of Fortaleza is considerably elevated, being higher in private schools, in the early adolescence, and in the highest SES level. No difference was found in this rate among males and females.

Full textIntroduction: Many studies evaluate food consumption in adolescence however little is known about the factors that influence adolescent\'s food choices. Objective: To evaluate, in a quantitative and qualitative way, the factors that influence adolescent\'s food choice from technical schools from São Paulo. Methods: This study is part of a research which evaluated 1167 adolescents from both gender. Factors that influence adolescent\'s food choice were evaluated in two steps, the first one evaluated in a quantitative way used two surveys that were developed to the research. The questionnaire evaluated adolescent\'s eating attitudes and included a question which included 15 factors which the adolescents should select the 3 more important, and the second survey assessed food consumption through a food frequency questionnaire that was based on the food pyramid. Body weight and height were measured and the Body Mass Index calculated in order to classify their weight status according to the World Health Organization criteria. The second part of this study, the qualitative analyses, used a smaller sample from the main study (n=45) and focus groups were performed. The 15 factors were divided into groups using the cluster analyses method and compared between genders, weight status and food consumption. Results: Taste and liking the food and trying to have a healthier eating were the 3 most referred factors in the quantitative analyses, while in the qualitative research lack of time and convenience were the most reported factors that influence the adolescent\'s food choices. Adolescents who prefer factors related to the food characteristics, such as taste, eat significantly more high fat and sugar foods. Conclusion: In this group the taste of food was the most important factor and can explain the eating inadequacies seen in this population.

O objetivo do estudo foi determinar a prevalência de sobrepeso e obesidade em adolescentes matriculados em escolas públicas e privadas do Município de Fortaleza. A prevalência do excesso de peso foi analisada, levando-se em consideração o sexo e a faixa etária dos adolescentes, bem como o nível socioeconômico das famílias. Um estudo transversal de base populacional foi realizado de março a maio de 2003, com uma amostra de 1.158 adolescentes entre 10 a 19 anos, alunos do ensino fundamental da 5ª a 8 ª série e do ensino médio. As variáveis do estudo incluíram: sexo, faixa etária (adolescência precoce, 10 a 14 anos; e adolescência tardia, 15 a 19 anos) situação escolar (privada ou pública), nível socioeconômico e dados antropométricos. Na avaliação nutricional, foi utilizado o índice de massa corpórea. Foi considerado como ponto de corte para sobrepeso percentil igual ou maior que 85 e menor que 95 e para obesidade o percentil igual ou maior que 95. A referência para as medidas antropométricas foi baseada nas tabelas de Must et al.(1991). Na determinação do nível socioeconômico das famílias, foram utilizados os “Critérios de Classificação Econômica do Brasil” (IBOPE). A prevalência de sobrepeso/obesidade foi de 19,5%, sendo maior nas escolas privadas do que nas públicas (23,9 e 18,0%, respectivamente). Em relação ao sexo, o excesso de peso foi distribuído igualmente nos dois grupos de colégios, contudo, nas escolas particulares foi mais frequente no sexo masculino, não sendo observada diferença nos colégios públicos. Foi encontrada maior prevalência de sobrepeso/obesidade na adolescência precoce do que na adolescência tardia. Nos estratos sociais mais elevados, a prevalência de sobrepeso/obesidade foi maior, sendo os rapazes e os adolescentes entre 10 a 14 anos os que mais contribuíram para esta diferença. Conclui-se que é elevada a prevalência de adolescentes com sobrepeso/obesidade no Município de Fortaleza, sendo maior nas escolas da rede privada, na adolescência precoce e nas classes de maior nível socioeconômico, não se encontrando diferença entre os sexos.

Resumo: Recentemente, pesquisadores em muitas partes do mundo têm estudado as "crianças-de-rua". O fenômeno assume proporções avantajadas nas áreas metropolitanas brasileiras, onde estima-se que dezesseis milhões vivam em condições de risco, principalmente em virtude da pobreza e da desagregação familiar. "Na rua" é a expressão usada para designar os que estão na rua trabalhando para suas famílias; "de rua" designa os que exercem atividades voltadas ao seu próprio sustento e não mantêm vínculo familiar. A socialização de ambos os grupos tende a ser marcada por numerosos eventos estressantes e pela escassez de suporte afetivo, econômico e social, o que talvez responda pela elevada ocorrência de comportamentos considerados socialmente desviantes entre eles. O objetivo deste trabalho é a identificação das relações entre características sociológicas, vivência de eventos estressantes ao longo da história de vida e distúrbios de conduta, mediante a análise dos prontuários de 50 meninos-de-rua, construídos ao longo de três anos, em três serviços sociais de atendimento, em Ribeirão Preto, SP. A análise dos dados mostrou que 60% do grupo de sujeitos tinha entre 13 e 16 anos, 32% estava na faixa de 7 a 12 anos e 8%' eram jovens adultos, (17 e 18 anos); 76% dos sujeitos eram do sexo masculino; a grande maioria provinha de famílias numerosas que sobrevivem abaixo dos limites da pobreza; 88% eram evadidos da escola e 18% analfabetos. Os eventos estressantes mais freqüentes foram ausência paterna ou materna por morte ou separação, conflito com os novos companheiros dos pais, privações severas em conseqüência da pobreza, rejeição, abandono, violência física e fuga do lar. Além desses identificaram-se o envolvimento dos pais em atividades ilegais e a presença de problemas psiquiátricos no ambiente familiar, em menor freqüência. Os sujeitos apresentaram uma média elevada de distúrbios de conduta, sendo que os mais freqüentes foram furto (100%), mentiras freqüentes (98%) e. uso de drogas (96%). O número mínimo de distúrbios de conduta apresentado por indivíduo foi quatro. Análises multivariados indicaram relações entre pobreza, freqüência elevada de eventos de vida potencialmente estressantes e a ocorrência de distúrbios de conduta. Os dados sugerem que há risco individual e social em pertencer à um segmento populacional que, embora numeroso, é "não-normativo" em termos sociológicos e psicológicos
Abstract: In recent years, researchers in many parts of the world have been studying street children. The phenomenon assumes advantageous rates in the Brazilian metropolitan areas, where sixteen millions of children and youths live at risk, mainly due to poverty and families with no structure or organization. "In the streets" is the term used to name those who are working for their families, "of the streets" designates who are working for their own support and keep no familiar relationship. The socialization of both groups tends to be marked by many stressful life events and poor affective, economic and social support, that may contribute to the high incidence of deviant behavior among them. The aim of this study is to identify the relationships between sociological features, living stressful events across the life history and behavioral problems, through the analysis of fifteen "street boys" dossiers, built across three years, by three social services from Ribeirão Preto. Data analysis indicated that 60% of the subjects were adolescents (13-16 years-old); 32% were children (7-12 years-old) and 8% were Iater adolescents (17-18 years-old); 76%. were boys; the majority living in extremely poor families; 88% had evaded from school and 18% were illiterate. The more common stressful life events were father absence by death or parental divorce, conflicts with the stepfather or stepmother, severe deprivation due to poverty, rejection, abandonment, physical violence and escape from home. Beside this, it is usual the parent's involvement in illegal activities and mental diseases are often present. The subjects presented high average of conduct disturbance. The most frequent were stealing (100%); frequent lies (98%) and drug abuse (96%). The least number of conduct disturbance exhibited by each subject were four. Multivariate analysis indicated relationships between poverty, high frequency of stressful life events and conduct disturbance. Data suggest that pertaining to socially and psychologically no normative, although highly frequent "at risk groups", increases the possibilities of personal and social involvement in deviant behavior and stressful life events

Full textLa Música como medio en el arte, la educación, la comunicación y la salud, son elementos fundamentales en la formación y en la vida del ser humano. Es una expresión del arte completamente relacionada con el Hombre, es parte de su salud, equilibrio y felicidad. La música además de interpretar el pensamiento y las ideas del Hombre, también forma parte de sus procesos afectivos, cognitivos y sociales, importantes en el campo de su desarrollo, esto se manifiesta de distintas formas en los diversos grupos humanos. En el proceso que se muestra a continuación, esto se hace visible al revisar el comportamiento de los actores involucrados, los pacientes, quienes conforman un grupo de personas con discapacidad, cuya principal característica es la dificultad en la comunicación, la que de alguna manera se ve favorecida a través de la actividad musical. El estudio de caso que se presenta, da cuenta del proceso de práctica en el postítulo de Terapias de Arte con mención en Musicoterapia, la que se realiza en el Centro Privado de Rehabilitación Infantil Manantial, ubicado en la comuna de Providencia. La intervención se lleva a cabo al interior de un grupo compuesto por siete personas (pacientes), quienes presentan discapacidades severas de diversa índole, los pacientes conforman un grupo de adolescentes compuesto por una mujer y seis hombres.

Full textEste estudo tem por temática a adolescência em conflito com a lei, especificamente um estudo dos adolescentes submetidos à medida socioeducativa de internação. Ancorado nas teorias da sociologia das ausências, que visa afirmar que o não existente é na verdade construído como inexistente; na teoria da invisibilidade pública que trata a visibilidade social como condição de afirmação da própria natureza humana; e na teoria da resiliência que concebe a superação das adversidades da vida como o produto final de um processo de interação entre o sujeito e mecanismos de proteção disponíveis a ele, este estudo de múltiplos casos tem por objetivo analisar de que modo eventuais processos de resiliência experimentados por adolescentes submetidos à internação interferem ou não nos processos de reincidência no sistema sócio-educativo, a partir da vivência de três adolescentes internos reincidentes e três adolescentes que passaram pela internação e encontram-se egressos da Unidade de Internação Social UNIS. Os principais resultados dessa pesquisa indicam que a internação se mostrou como um risco e não como proteção ao adolescente, isso porque para todos os entrevistados a significação da experiência foi apenas a do sofrimento. O que diferencia, perversamente, os caminhos dos adolescentes que reincidem ou não são os frágeis mecanismos de proteção alheios ao próprio Estado. Nesse sentido, destaca-se o papel desempenhado pela família durante e depois da internação, pela religião e pela defesa técnica que esteve à disposição do adolescente no processo judicial. Foi possível, portanto, perceber que todos os adolescentes entrevistados demonstraram a vontade de superar as adversidades, todavia, apenas os que não reincidiram encontram mecanismos de proteção que pudessem suportar tal decisão.
This study has for thematic the adolescence in conflict with the law, specifically a study of adolescents receiving by socio-educational internment. Anchored on the theories of sociology of absences, which aims to guarantee that the nonexistent is actually built out of existence; the theory of public invisibility that means the social visibility as a condition of the affirmation of human nature; and the theory of resilience that conceives the overcoming the adversities of life as the end product of a process of interaction between the subject and protection mechanisms available to it, this multiple case study aims to analyze how possible resilience processes experienced by adolescents receiving by socio-educational internment do or do not interfere processes of re-social-educational system, from the experience of three adolescents in recividism and three teenagers who went through the UNIS and don`t commit another crime. The main results of this survey indicate that socio-educational internment is shown as a risk rather than protection of the adolescent, that because all respondents to the significance of the experience was just suffering. What differentiates, perversely, the paths of adolescents who re-offend or not the fragile protection mechanisms outside the state. In this sense, the role of the family during and after the socio-educational internment, religion and the technical defense that was available to adolescents in the judicial process. It was possible, therefore, that all adolescents interviewed demonstrated the will to overcome adversity, however, only those who are not reoccur protection mechanisms that could support such a decision.

If theories differ, some specialists agree to think that foreign languages acquisition is related to the integration verbalised by ear. For Tomatis, it s not a question of intelligence. If it is considered we have all been able to learn our mother tongue and sometimes even two ( in the case of early bilingualism), it can be thaught we are all born polyglots. However, we are all far to be polyglots, so we are wondering which factors prevent some from being multilingual, and those which, on the other and, make it possible. In the first part of our research, we will try to identify factors, which beyond the integration verbalised by ear, have any influence on plurilinguism. In the second part, we will define the fields of our research. Our study related to firstly-newcomers in France will identify determining factors during the training of interlingua (French foreign language). In the last part of our study, we will proceed to analyses and interpretations of our experimentation. This analyse will enable us to answer our first assumptions. Which relevants factors can explain the success –or not- for a firstly newcomer bilingual adolescent? At the end of this research , we will arrive to an assumption on the relevance of factors during the training of the interlingua. How can we quantify the relevant variables in the success of the French foreign language training for the bilinguals of adolescence?

Full textIntroduction: The assessment of habitual diet of adolescent is complex due to within and between-person variations. The studies of validity and reproducibility of food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) are needed to ensure the use of reliable and accurate instruments capable of measure usual diet. Objective: To develop, verify the validity and reproducibility of a food frequency questionnaire based on the food groups of food pyramid for adolescents (FFQ-PA). Methods: After identify the items to be included in the FFQ-PA, the method was tested in a pilot study. The final version consisted of 50 food items. The study was conducted with 109 adolescents of both genders over a period of four months. To check the validity and reproducibility of the FFQ-PA were applied four 24-hour records (Rec24h) and two FFQ-PA. The validity was obtained by comparing the second FFQ-PA and average Rec24h. The reproducibility was measured by comparing the two FFQ-PA. Results: The questionnaire represented 97,7% of the calories consumed by the population and at least 90% of the intake of selected nutrients. We included food often reported missing in the FFQ and the frequently reported without further energy contribuition. In the study of validity and reproducibility, the variables were evaluated further groups of rice, bread, pasta, potatoes and cassava, meat and sugar and sweets. The worst results were observed for vitamin C. It is noteworthy that this is the first FFQ developed, validated and accurate in Brazil for adolescents that assesses food consumption based on the adolescent food pyramid. Conclusion: Considering the analysis, the FFQ-PA showed satisfactory validity and reproducibility acceptable for most variables.

El presente ensayo trata exclusivamente del interés superior de los niños, niñas y adolescentes, que intervienen en una controversia de carácter familiar en el Estado de México y del razonamiento que hacen los jueces, para tutelar de forma efectiva el interés superior de la niñez. Se tratan cuatro capítulos en el presente proyecto, el primero sobre derechos humanos, derechos fundamentales e interés superior de la niñez; el segundo capítulo sobre el interés superior de la niñez visto desde una realidad jurídica y social, así como la teoría de la argumentación de Robert Alexy para el sustento de la presente investigación; el apartado tres habla sobre los tratados internacionales de los que México es parte y el sistema jurídico mexicano sobre interés superior de la niñez; el último apartado trata sobre análisis de casos concretos para tutela efectiva del interés superior del menor. A través del método documental, exegético y deductivo, se identificará la importancia de juzgar con perspectiva de derechos humanos en salva guarda del interés superior de la niñez.

Full textBackground: The nurse's professional role includes promoting health, preventing illness, restoring health and alleviate suffering for the patient. With a salutogenic approach will risk use of alcohol in adolescents and young adults be identified. Aim:The purpose of this study was to describe the health promoting efforts by nurses within non-institutional care regarding their work with young people and young adults aged 13-24 yearsold and a risky use of alcohol. Furthermore, the purpose was to review the data collection methods of selected articles referenced in this study. Methods:The present study has a descriptive design. Searches were done in the Cinahl and Medline databases, were limited between the years 2004-2015 and with the keywords adolescent, binge drinking, professional-patient relations, health promotion, text messaging, motivational interviewing, and alcohol. Thirteen quantitative articles were selected and processed. Result: Various health promotion emerged. Brief interventions and motivational interviewing were offered and implemented. Unhealthy use of alcohol in adolescents and young adults were reduced, this by identifying the risk factors that influence to a risky use of alcohol. To identify the risks, Short Message Service (SMS) and the Internet where used. Identification was also done by means of leaflets. Using the Internet was an efficient way to influence young people's attitudes and self-esteem. A good self-affirmation also developed a higher self-esteem among both youth and adults. This development reduced alcohol intake. An improvement to a higher self-esteem among young people, regardless how it achieves, eases the implementation and execution work of giving information about alcohol and its risks. Conclusion: In the nurse's health promotion work includes early identification of an unhealthy lifestyle and to strengthen youth and young adults' self-esteem. Influencing the decision-making factors increased the motivation to change. This reduced the number of binge occasions. With counseling and strengthening dialogues, adolescents and young adults are motivated to drink less alcohol.

Resumo: Esta pesquisa estudou a problematização do comportamento alimentar de vinte e dois adolescentes obesos, no contexto do aconselhamento dietético como estratégia de educação nutricional, sendo onze em atendimento coletivo e onze em atendimento individual, ambos por oito meses. O método utilizado foi o qualitativo e a técnica empregada foi a de análise de conteúdo. Observou-se que a problematização foi um instrumento facilitador para a mudança de comportamento alimentar, fazendo emergir fatores correlacionados ao mesmo. Na análise dos dados qualitativos observou-se, em ambos atendimentos, que a problematização do comportamento alimentar fez emergir temas englobados em: práticas alimentares, contexto familiar, estigma social do obeso e relacionamento com profissionais de saúde; religiosidade evidenciou-se apenas no atendimento coletivo. Os adolescentes em atendimento individual problematizaram de forma mais efetiva as práticas alimentares, enquanto no atendimento coletivo houve maior problematização dos aspectos familiares e psicológicos relativos à obesidade, com efetivas mudanças qualitativas em ambos os grupos. No atendimento coletivo, houve abandono das atividades por seis adolescentes, sendo que dois dos cincos restantes apresentaram redução de peso. No atendimento individual, houve abandono por parte de três adolescentes, e a redução ponderal foi verificada em seis adolescentes dos nove restantes. Concluiu-se que a intervenção construída através da integração da problematização às etapas do processo de aconselhamento é eficaz para ajudar os adolescentes a compreenderem sua história de vida e os fatores determinantes do comportamento alimentar, conscientizarem-se das possibilidades de perpetuação da mudança das práticas alimentares exercendo com autonomia o seu papel de sujeitos no programa de educação em saúde, de forma a buscar qualidade de vida de forma ampla
Abstract: This research studied the issue of feeding behavior of twenty-two obese teenagers, in the context of diet counseling as a strategy of nutritional education, considering two different groups of eleven teenagers. One group was attended collectively and the other individually, both of them for eight months. The method was qualitative and the approach used was analysis of contents. The issue was observed to be an instrument, which facilitates the change of feeding behavior, thus arousing inherent factors. In the analysis of qualitative data, one observed that in both attendance, the issue of feeding behavior involved with: feeding behavior, family context, the obese social stigma and relationship with health professionals; religiosity appeared only in the collective attendance. Teenagers under individual attendance effectively had troubles with the feeding behavior while for the group attendance the issues were related to family and psychological aspects regarding obesity, with effective qualitative changes in both groups. In the group attendance six teenagers dropped out the activities and two out of the five remaining ones lost weight. In the individual treatment three teenagers resigned and weight reduction was verified in six teenagers out of the nine remaining ones. One concluded that the intervention built up through the integration of the issue of the stage of the counseling process is efficient to help teenagers understand their life history and the factors which determine the feeding behavior, to become aware of the possibilities of perpetuation to the changes of feeding habits, exerting on their own the role of subjects in the program of health education, so as to seek broader life quality

Full textIntrodução: As alterações de humor na adolescência são frequentes e implicam diversos fatores causais. Destaca-se que esta é uma fase na qual existem dificuldades nas relações interpessoais, nomeadamente no que respeita à resolução de conflitos e problemas. Metodologia: O presente relatório, foi desenvolvido a partir da elaboração de um projeto na área da depressão na adolescência, tendo para tal sido utilizada a Terapia de Resolução de Problemas aplicada pelo EESMP. Pretendeu-se desenvolver um estudo com uma metodologia quantitativa, descritiva e correlacional para avaliação da depressão e ambiente familiar. Objetivos: Pretendeu-se descrever as aprendizagens realizadas ao longo do estágio, bem como ao longo do curso. Também se encontram devidamente descritas as etapas de elaboração do projeto. Resultados e Conclusões: O projeto foi realizado nas fases concetual e metodológica. Salienta-se o acréscimo de conhecimentos, quer teóricos, quer clínicos, adquiridos pelo desenvolvimento do estágio e do projeto, dos quais emergem as competências de Mestre em Enfermagem e EESMP.
Introduction: Mood changes in adolescence are frequent and involve several causal factors. It should be emphasized that this is a phase in which there are difficulties in interpersonal relations, in particular with regard to the resolution of conflicts and problems. Methodology: This report was developed from the development of a project in the area of depression in adolescence, having used the Problem Resolution Therapy applied by the Nurse Specialist in Mental and Psychiatric Health. It was intended to develop a study with a quantitative, descriptive methodology for evaluation of depression and family environment. Objectives: It was intended to describe the learning carried out during the internship, as well as throughout the course. The stages of project design are also duly described. Results and Conclusions: The project was carried out in the conceptual and methodological phases. It is important to highlight the knowledge acquired, both theoretical and clinical, acquired through the development of the stage and the project, from which emerge the competences of Master in Nursing and Nurse Specialist in Mental and Psychiatric Health.

Full textA violência assume, na sociedade capitalista contemporânea, o status de uma das expressões decorrente das relações sociais que nela se concretizam e se manifestam em vários espaços, sendo a escola um deles. A violência no meio escolar, até recentemente, era um tema tratado somente dentro da escola. Como reflexo disso, grande parte dos estudos produzidos sobre a violência na escola e no entorno tomaram como sujeitos de pesquisa, os professores, os alunos e seus pais. Com o Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente - ECA, outros órgãos passaram a se envolver no enfrentamento dessa violência: o Conselho Tutelar, a Promotoria da Infância e Juventude e a Delegacia de Proteção à Criança e ao Adolescente. No entanto, questiona-se de que maneira a violência no meio escolar é percebida por esses órgãos? Quais as expressões da violência escolar que chegam até eles? Nosso estudo sobre a violência na escola se voltou para a revelação dessa violência, a partir de novas fontes de dados, ainda inéditas. Apresentam-se, assim, neste estudo, as expressões da violência no meio e entorno escolar no município de Santa Maria, a partir de uma visão exógena à escola. Nossas fontes de dados constituíram-se: da análise documental dos inquéritos da Delegacia de Proteção à Criança - DPCA, entrevistas semi-estruturadas com representantes dos três Conselhos Tutelares e com a Promotoria da Infância e Juventude do Município. A partir do resultado, revela-se que, entre as medidas adotadas pela escola pública e pelos pais dos alunos, para o enfrentamento da violência e também da indisciplina escolar, está a judicialização. E que, a demanda pela ação dos conselheiros tutelares na escola, predominantemente, tem um cunho punitivo/repressivo e não protetor.

Teenage girls’ choice of dropping out or complete a treatment.
The purpose of this study is to investigate, from a client’s perspective, why teenage girls (age 13 to 17) drop-out or complete a treatment at Familjehuset in Karlstad, Sweden. We also want to investigate if the teenage girls’ experiences coordinate with the social workers opinion of why the teenage girls choose to drop-out or complete the treatment. Earlier research shows that many factors influence the client’s choice. A good relationship between the social worker and the adolescent is of great importance when it comes to complete a treatment. A qualitative abductive method for the six interviews was used in order to gain a deeper understanding for these phenomena.
Results show that the teenage girls were in a period of emancipation in creating their own identity, which made it difficult for them to communicate with, and trust grownups. We believe that the three girls that completed the treatment had come further in this development than the three girls that dropped out. The girls which dropped out of treatment have had numerous contacts with social workers in the past, and their attitudes were very negative towards professionals. This attitude influenced their treatment at Familjehuset and it was hard to communicate in order to gain a good relationship for further treatment.
Mostly, the girls thought that the social workers at Familjehuset were easy to talk to, and that they had listened to them and understood them. They all said that at first they did not like the contact, but the three girls which completed the treatment, were of the opinion that they would give it a chance, and this developed into a relationship that increased their motivation and could be of good help for them.
The social workers at Familjehuset described several reasons why teenage girls choose to drop-out or complete a treatment. Many of these reasons coordinated with the girl’s points of view, like the importance of listening, creating a good relationship to get them motivated for further treatment. Items that the social workers mention, but the girls not, were the importance of getting the family integrated in the treatment and the importance of the first contact.
We hope that this study can come to help for the social workers at Familjehuset in their profession and that it also can be useful for further research.

Full textThe aim of this study is to examine which factors in the receiving-country that have had an influence on three now adult unaccompanied refugee children. The method used in the study is qualitative interviews with the three above-mentioned participants. The results show that some factors are perceived as helpful, having a positive influence on the participants life while other factors are perceived as worsening, having a negative influence on their life. Depending on the context some factors such as age, the Swedish language and housing arrangements have had both positive and negative influences on their life. Positive factors are among other things: access to good treatment and support, help with processing trauma and bad mental health, help with understanding coherence, access to a social network, family reunification, resilience and other internal factors. Negative factors are among other things: loneliness, feeling of powerlessness, mistakes made by public authority and “the long waiting” until they get a residence permit. The results correspond with previous research findings but have also originated new knowledge that can be added on the current field of research. The results have furthermore been analyzed with theories of risk and resilience, coping and sense of coherence.
