Abstract:

Adolescent pregnancy is a problem that societies face, regardless of the level of development. Despite the availability of information and the availability of contraception, as well as the right to an abortion that is guaranteed in most modern societies, countries face many cases of adolescent pregnancies. Pregnancy in the period of adolescence irreversibly changes the lives of minors. It has an influence on their health, their education, social life and their future as adults. Also, the families of the under-aged parents are directly affected by the consequences, disrupting the functionality of the family. In a wider sense, the health system and social functioning are burdened in their entirety. Therefore, it’s important to prevent adolescent pregnancies. Contraception is the primary protection against unwanted pregnancy and insufficient and inconsistent application of contraception, as well as the lack of information among young people about the available methods of contraception, can be one of the main causes of adolescent pregnancies. Integrated sexuality education for adolescents can be a great benefit to educate adolescents about risk factors of pregnancy in early life. The influence of parents is crucial in the prevention of adolescent pregnancy. This paper's intention is to analyses the current situation on this topic, through available indicators on birth rates, maternal and children mortality worldwide. Qualitative research conducted between the student (18-22), should give more information about the use of contraception between young people, their opinion about the importance of contraception… Important questions are: Are they well informed about contraception; are the contraception products available; Are they feel free enough to talk with their parents on those topics..etc. Key words: Adolescents, Pregnancy, Adolescent Pregnancy, Teenagers, Family, Contraception.

Abstract:

Pregnancy has a profound effect on adolescence, since it brings about a total change in the trajectory of women's lives. It can lead to situations of high obstetric risk, becoming a public health problem of great importance with a high biological and psychosocial cost. Objective: To examine the frequent complications of pregnancy in adolescents. Methodology: The research design is bibliographic; with the purpose of obtaining a notable scientific base that contributes to the information, an organized exploration of original articles was carried out through different digital databases such as: Google Scholar, PubMed, SciELO, Scopus, Web of Sciencie using the keywords: complications, adolescence and pregnancy, with a maximum age of 5 years and without language limitations. The search strategies used were based on the following search criteria: "adolescent pregnancy", "complications of adolescent pregnancy" and "adolescent pregnancy complications", in order to identify, select and refer to the sources which, in the most summarized manner, could be used to explain this topic. Results: Various analyses mentioned above indicate that obstetric complications in adolescents translate into health, labor, economic and educational terms in developing countries and among less favored social classes. Conclusions: It is vitally important to address this problem to increase prevention and promotion programs in order to improve their sexual and reproductive health.

Abstract:

Objetivo: apreender as percepções de adolescentes acerca da gestação. Metodologia: pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa, mediante entrevistas semiestruturadas a 13 adolescentes grávidas reincidentes em acompanhamento pré-natal em Unidade de Referência Materno Infantil de Belém-PA. A coleta de dados ocorreu de janeiro a março de 2015, realizando-se, após, análise de conteúdo. Resultados: emergiram quatro categorias: a) Percepções negativas acerca da gestação na adolescência; b) Percepções Positivas acerca da Gestação na Adolescência; c) Apoio familiar e do parceiro no contexto da gestação na adolescência; d) Acesso à orientação: a atuação do profissional de saúde. Abstract:

Teenage pregnancy is one of the health problems in developing countries that has not been resolving yet. Adolescent perception is one of the factors that influence the incident of teenage pregnancy. At present, there are still limited research articles about adolescent perceptions toward teenage pregnancy. The purpose of this literature study is to find out how adolescent perceptions toward teenage pregnancy. This literature study used a scoping review method. There were 6 articles was analyzed after sorting by inclusion criteria consisting of the article contained an explanation or description of adolescent perceptions of teenage pregnancy, the year 2015-2020, English or Indonesian, full text, samples aged 10-19 years. The result of the study found out that adolescents had negative perceptions such as pregnancy among adolescents is too young, teenage pregnancy caused by several factors, and has various negative impacts toward adolescents, parents, and infants. Furthermore, adolescents had positive perceptions such as teenage pregnancy in adolescent is normal, life will not differ, her boyfriend will be responsible to her pregnancy. The conclusions from this literature review were the difference in perceptions between adolescents towards pregnancy in adolescents is influenced by adolescent environmental culture and believed.

Resumo Foi nosso objetivo explorar o contributo simultâneo de fatores individuais, sociais e ambientais e das possíveis interações entre eles para a decisão de prosseguir uma gravidez adolescente à luz do atual quadro legislativo que despenaliza a interrupção da gravidez por opção da mulher, em Portugal. A amostra foi constituída por 276 adolescentes que engravidaram de forma não planeada e contactaram com os serviços de saúde dentro do prazo legal que lhes permitiria optar pela interrupção: 133 adolescentes que prosseguiram a gravidez e 143 que a interromperam. Os dados foram recolhidos entre 2008 e 2013 em 53 serviços de saúde de todas as regiões. Não ter ponderado as duas alternativas possíveis (prosseguimento/interrupção), pertencer a famílias de baixo nível socioeconómico e com história de maternidade adolescente, ter abandonado a escola e residir em áreas com maior densidade populacional e onde a população feminina é menos escolarizada foram fatores explicativos do prosseguimento da gravidez. A menor idade da adolescente associou-se com o prosseguimento apenas quando não foram ponderadas ambas as alternativas. O efeito da religiosidade local variou de acordo com o envolvimento religioso da adolescente. Estes resultados têm importantes implicações para a prática clínica e investigação na área da decisão reprodutiva na adolescência.Abstract The aim of the current study was to explore the simultaneous contribution of individual, social, and environmental factors, as well as the possible interactions between them to the decision to continue an adolescent pregnancy after the abortion on women´s demand has been legalized in Portugal. The sample consisted of 276 adolescents who became unintentionally pregnant and contacted with healthcare services within the legal period for induced abortion: 133 adolescents who chose to continue the pregnancy and 143 who chose to terminate the pregnancy. Data were collected between 2008 and 2013, in 53 healthcare centers of all country areas. Not having thought about both available options (i.e., continuing vs. terminating the pregnancy), belonging to families of low socioeconomic status and with adolescent pregnancy history, having dropped out of school and having lived in areas with higher population density and less educated females predicted the decision to continue the pregnancy. The lower the adolescents’ age, the more frequent was the decision to continue the pregnancy, but only when adolescents’ had not thought about both options. The effect of local religiosity differed according to the adolescents’ religious involvement. These findings have important implications for clinical practice and research on adolescents’ reproductive decisions.

Background: Currently, the number of adolescents who have sexual intercourse is increasing and those make a higher risk of medical, psychological, and social implications. This behaviour is obviously leading to an increase the number of adolescence pregnancy. Sex education and counselling in many countries is delivered by health care professionals. In Indonesia, there are some sex education programs delivered by peer educators but their success in reducing adolescence pregnancy is unknown.  Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of a peer reproductive health education program in decreasing unplanned pregnancy in adolescents. Method: This integrative literature review was based on 3 databases which included Google Scholar, Pubmed and SAGE Journal. The inclusion criteria were articles published within the 2012–2018-year range, written in English, and the entire article was available and accessible. Only original articles with experimental design will be included. The quality of the selected articles was defined by using the Olsen-Baisch Scoring critical appraisal tool for integrative review.  Result: Peer education builds social support and sense of belonging. The content is not only about unplanned pregnancy but also STI and HIV; responsible decision making; and body image identification. Peer educator can be the role model and have greater opportunities to counter the risk of adolescent pregnancy.  Conclusion: Preventing adolescent pregnancy can save the next generation and improve adolescent health. Peer educator as part of health provider connect adolescents with their reproductive health needs. This approach would be beneficial strategy consider by health provider to protect adolescents. Keywords: adolescent, peer educator, pregnancy, sex education

Abstract:

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: To analyze the temporal trend and factors associated with adolescent pregnancy during ten years in Brasil. METHODS: Data were extracted from the Live Births Information System, of the Brazilian Health System and included information regarding live births from adolescent mothers from 2006 to 2015. The overall proportion of gestation in adolescence and the specific proportions according to the characteristics analyzed were calculated using the standardized reporting coefficients and the simple linear regression method. The study was approved by the ethics committee of the University of Southern Santa Catarina (UNISUL). RESULTS: The general proportion of Live Births from adolescent mothers varied from 21.4% in 2006 to 18.1% in 2015. This reduction occurred because of the negative variation observed among mothers aged 15 to 19 years. The indigenous group was the only that did not present a reduction. There was an increase in the proportion of adolescents with between four and seven years of formal education and in the proportion of adolescents living with partners. There was a reduction in all Brazilian Regions and in large part of the Federation Units. CONCLUSION: The analysis of the temporal trend identifies a reduction in the proportion of live births among adolescent mothers in Brasil. However, there is a growing trend among some specific groups.

Abstract:

Introduction In low-and middle-income countries, pregnancy-related complications are major causes of death for young women. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of first adolescent pregnancy and its associated factors in sub-Saharan Africa. Methods We undertook a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data from Demographic and Health Surveys conducted in 32 sub-Saharan African countries between 2010 and 2018. We calculated the prevalence of first adolescent (aged 15 to 19 years) pregnancy in each country and examined associations between individual and contextual level factors and first adolescent pregnancy. Results Among all adolescents, Congo experienced the highest prevalence of first adolescent pregnancy (44.3%) and Rwanda the lowest (7.2%). However, among adolescents who had ever had sex, the prevalence ranged from 36.5% in Rwanda to 75.6% in Chad. The odds of first adolescent pregnancy was higher with increasing age, working, being married/cohabiting, having primary education only, early sexual initiation, knowledge of contraceptives, no unmet need for contraception and poorest wealth quintile. By contrast, adolescents who lived in rural areas and in the West African sub-region had lower odds of first adolescent pregnancy. Conclusion The prevalence of adolescent pregnancy in sub-Saharan African countries is high. Understanding the predictors of first adolescent pregnancy can facilitate the development of effective social policies such as family planning and comprehensive sex and relationship education in sub-Saharan Africa and can help ensure healthy lives and promotion of well-being for adolescents and their families and communities.

Introduction: Adolescence is one of the stages of life. Adolescents hope that the future of the nation needs to be taken care of physically and mentally and socially as a whole (Law No. 61/2014 about Reproductive Health), as well as all matters relating to the system and functions and processes of reproduction. In Indonesia the incidence of unwanted pregnancy in adolescents has a percentage of 17%. Adolescent reproductive health education about unwanted pregnancy is very important to be known by adolescents as one of the preventions of unwanted pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of reproductive health education on adolescent knowledge level about unwanted pregnancy in adolescent Palalangon. Methods : The study design uses a pre-experimental design one group pretest-posttest design, using a purposive sampling technique and obtained a total sampling of 39 respondents. The method of data collection is done by using a questionnaire statement totaling 25 items. Results : The results showed that 38 respondents (97.4%) before the health education program was knowledgeable and less than 1 person (2.6%) knowledgeable, whereas after health education all respondents had a good knowledge with a percentage (100%). The conclusion of Wilcoxon's statistical test analysis results obtained sig (0.00) <sig (0.05) which means that there is an effect of adolescent reproductive health education between knowledge before and after health education. Conclusion: Health care workers are expected to be able to carry out health education specifically on adolescent reproductive health as one of the preventions of unwanted pregnancy problems among adolescents

Abstract:

Adolescent pregnancy is defined as a pregnancy between the ages of 13-19 years, adolescent pregnancy occurs around 25% of women worldwide, but this number continues to decline due to educational support, contraception and prevention strategies for adolescent pregnancy. Evidence shows that there were programme interventions to reduce adolescent pregnancy such as encouraging people to participate in comprehensive prevention of adolescent pregnancy programs and health campaign to avoid unsafe sexual relationships. This scoping review was aimed to map out available evidence related to the parents’ involvement and barriers of programme intervention to reduce adolescent pregnancy. This scoping review followed the framework of Arksey and O'Malley, which consists of identifying the review questions; look for relevant evidence; selecting relevant studies; maping the data; and medicate, conclude and report results. PRISMA flowchart was used to display the evidence search flow. The results of the review indicated that there were 12 included articles from the search process. This review emerged 3 themes: efforts to reduce adolescent pregnancy rates, support for adolescent reproductive health services, barriers to reproductive health services for adolescents. It is important encouragage people to participate in comprehensive adolescent pregnancy prevention programs in including provision of information about the dangers of adolescents’ pregnancy, reproductive health, and maintain positive relationship with the family.

Abstract:

This descriptive study explored loneliness among pregnant adolescents in a southeastern metropolitan area. Numerous psychosocial variables of the special population of pregnant teens remain to be studied. One such variable is loneliness, a feeling often experienced by adolescents. The present study hypothesized that loneliness may occur during adolescent pregnancy. To date, one study exists (Diiorio & Riley, 1988) of loneliness and adolescent pregnancy. The problem statement was: Does loneliness exist among pregnant adolescents? Three research questions were addressed: Within this sample: 1. To what extent does loneliness exist? 2. Is loneliness more frequent during certain ages? 3. Do pregnant black and white adolescents differ in the extent to which they experience loneliness? Participants between the ages of 14 and 18 receiving prenatal care in public health clinics and a university affiliated obstetric clinic were selected for the study. The final sample size was 78. The loneliness study was conducted as part of a larger longitudinal study, Nursing Role Supplementation for Adolescent Parents (NIH #1R01NR01939-01A1). The dependent variable, loneliness, was measured by the Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale (Russell, Peplau, & Cutrona, 1980), a 20-item Likert-type instrument. Possible scores on the tool ranged from 20 to 80, with 80 constituting the loneliest end of the continuum. The extent of loneliness was determined by the summation of numerical responses. Data were analyzed by two methods: (a) analysis of variance (ANOVA), to determine any differences between age and loneliness score, and (b) the t-test for two independent samples, in order to examine differences in mean loneliness scores between blacks and whites in the sample. Scores ranged from 25 to 58. "Low" to "moderate" loneliness existed among the sample; however, loneliness did not exist in greater amplitude than among nonpregnant adolescents in other studies reviewed. No significant relationship was found between age of participants and loneliness scores. Furthermore, differences in loneliness scores between blacks and whites were not statistically significant. Finally, pregnancy may not intensify loneliness for adolescents. On the other hand, pregnancy did not diminish loneliness among pregnant adolescents in this sample.

Abstract:

<p> In the United States the high rate of adolescent pregnancy is a cause for a concern. Previous research indicates that infants born to adolescent parents have negative social outcomes and are prone to repeat the cycle. For this reason, it is necessary and important to lower the adolescent pregnancy rates. The study examines factors that influence adolescent pregnancy and respondents' age when the first child was born (i.e., teenage pregnancy), consumption of alcohol, and sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing. The 2005 CHIS adult data set was used for the analysis; the sample used included only women less than 20 years of age at the time of interview (<i>N</i> = 390). There were no statistically significant findings, probably due to the small sample size.</p>

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to examine the problems that pregnant teenagers encounter at school and at home while they are trying to complete their high school education. Data were collected by in-depth interviews. Twenty pregnant adolescents, who were between the ages of 15 through 18, and were participants in a special teen pregnancy program were interviewed. The major findings in this study included the respondents': 1) unstable family life histories, 2) denial that they were pregnant, 3) need for self-identity as an adult, 4) conflict with parents and 5) motivation to complete their high school education. This study points to the need for more research on the problems that pregnant adolescents encounter in their everyday lives.

Magister Artium - MA<br>Globally, teenage pregnancy remains a disturbing phenomenon which impacts on the lives of teenagers, their families and society as a whole. Numerous attempts at addressing the problem have seen a decline in fertility rates but agreement still exists that the incidence of young girls bearing children is unacceptably high. Studies conducted over the years have emphasised both the causes and consequences of teenage births. Many studies too have explored the benefits of preventative strategies. Yet, despite all this, teenage pregnancy remains a cause for concern with many teenage girls remaining sexually active after a first pregnancy, and exposing themselves to subsequent pregnancies and births. This study was focused on teenage girls who had experienced unintended repeat pregnancies. Through the research a deeper understanding of the meanings that female teenagers ascribe to repeat pregnancies, were sought. A sample group of teenage mothers were allowed to take a step back from their experience of the repeat pregnancy; to think deeply about the experience, and to reflect on what they had learnt and how it has impacted on their current lives. The researcher employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive, explorative design in order to obtain a rich description of the experiences of teenage mothers who have been through a repeat pregnancy. The goal of the study was to explore and describe the reflections of these teenage mothers who had experienced unintended, repeat pregnancies. Data was obtained through semi-structured individual interviews where an interview guide was used. The data was analysed according to the steps outlined by Creswell (2009). Findings were noted and recommendations made. These recommendations are designed for role-players involved with teenagers and youth in general. Emphasis was placed on recommendations to professionals, like educators, healthcare workers and social workers who are at the coalface of dealing with teenagers who engage in sexual activity. Finally, recommendations for further research were made.

Abstract:

Despite the number of teen pregnancy studies in the past, there is a dearth of empirical data relevant to the issue of psychosocial and/or developmental changes in adolescent mothers. Most previous studies have addressed the negative and devastating impact of teen pregnancy on adolescent development. The premise of these early studies was that adolescents have pathological reasons for becoming pregnant. Contrary to these studies, an underlying assumption of this study was that teen pregnancy as a life crisis could entail the same facilitating and inhibiting factors that emerge with other adolescent life crises. Based on Erikson's theoretical framework, this study investigated the impacts of adolescent pregnancy and childbearing experiences on adolescent identity formation and on psychosocial stage development. Data were collected from 64 (34 childbearing, 30 nonpregnant) high school adolescent girls before and after childbirth. The EOM-EIS (Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status) and EPSI (Erikson Psychosocial Stage Inventory) were used in this study. Analyses of pretest data showed that there were no differences between pregnant and nonpregnant adolescents. Results indicated that there were no differences on psychosocial variables between pregnant adolescents and nonpregnant adolescents with similar demographic backgrounds. The childbearing adolescents demonstrated decreases in foreclosure scores on identity status and increases in trust, industry, and intimacy scores on psychosocial stages. The results indicate that childbearing experiences may have enhanced the adolescents' ability to resolve their earlier developmental stage crises and conflicts.

Abstract:

Understanding the adaptational responses and ecocultural niche of the Navajo adolescent mother from her perspective provides a richness of information about a little-studied population . The overall purpose of this study was to explore the ecocultural factors determined to be significant in the decision of a Navajo adolescent mother to remain in high school or drop out of high school. Thirty Navajo adolescent mothers recruited from two small reservation towns in eastern Arizona participated in the study. Navajo adolescent mothers in the study participated in a one and one half hour semistructured accommodations interview, and completed a Family Resource Scale and a Family Support Scale. An assessment tool, the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, was administered to infants and toddlers of Navajo adolescent mothers. Computation of effect sizes determined the magnitude of difference between the two groups. Findings indicated that (a) Navajo adolescent mothers who remained in high school had more family support than those who dropped out of high school, (b) Navajo adolescent mothers who remained in high school had more family resources than those who dropped out of high school, and (c) Navajo adolescent mothers who remained in high school made greater adaptations than those who dropped out of high school. An additional question focused on the relationship between Navajo adolescent mothers' current enrollment in school and the cognitive and motor performance development of their children. Findings indicated that children born to Navajo adolescent mothers in the drop-out group scored higher on both the cognitive and motor performance tests of development than those infants born to the in-school group mothers.

A dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Arts in fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Masters of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Zululand, 2017<br>The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of postnatal depression among adolescent mothers. The study was going to achieve this through a comparative approach. Two groups of adolescent mothers were compared. One group’s participants were still in relationships with their partners (child’s biological father), and the other group consisted of single adolescent partners without the child’s biological father, or a romantic partner. The research study was based in the Umhlathuze region, in two local townships, namely, Enseleni and Esikhawini Townships. A total of 100 adolescent mothers from two health care facilities were sampled for the current research study. A quantitative research methodology was adopted, as the study intended to compare nominal variables. A self-selection sampling method was utilised, and a validated tool called the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to collect data. Furthermore, the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was utilised for the purposes of data analysis. The study revealed that there was no evidence of an association between partner availability and postnatal depression among adolescent mothers. However, the limitations of the current research study were acknowledged. The study recommends that a more longitudinal study be conducted, with a closer look at the quality of romantic relations among adolescent couples, and their impact on postnatal health of both adolescent mothers and fathers.<br>National Research Foundation

Abstract:

Background: Prevalence of adolescents’ unwanted pregnancy is relatively high in Asia (43%), Africa (45%), and both Latin America and Caribbean (74%). Unwanted pregnancy at an early age is correlated with social consequences as well as increased health risks for both mother and infants. Peer-based intervention is a program to promote sexual and reproductive health, including the prevention of unwanted pregnancy. This study aimed to assess the influence of peer-based intervention on unwanted pregnancy prevention behaviors in adolescents. Subject dan Method: Meta-analysis was conducted based on PRISMA guidelines. Articles with randomized controlled trial design published in 2000-2020 were included for meta-analysis. These articles were searched from PubMed, Science Direct, Research Gate, and Google Scholar databases. Keyword used “peer education” OR “peer led” OR “peer counseling” OR “peer approach” OR “peer teaching” OR “peer mentoring” AND “unwanted pregnancy” AND adolescent AND “randomized controlled trial”. Articles that met eligibility criteria were analyzed using Revman 5.4. Results: Ten articles met the criteria for a meta-analysis with sample size 15,439. This study showed that peer-based intervention (RR=1.12; 95% CI=0.95 to 1.32; p=0.160) improved unwanted pregnancy prevention behavior in adolescents, but it was statistically non-significant. Conclusion: Peer-based intervention improves unwanted pregnancy prevention behavior in adolescents, but it is statistically non-significant. Abstract:

Background: Every year, around 14 million women and girls aged 15 to 19 (both married and unmarried) give birth. This age group might lead to negative outcomes of pregnancy and childbirth. This scoping review aimed to identify the outcomes of adolescent pregnancy and its contributing factors. Subjects and Method: A scoping review method was conducted in eight stages including (1) Identification of study problems; (2) Determining priority problem and study question; (3) Determining framework; (4) Literature searching; (5) Article selection; (6) Critical appraisal; (7) Data extraction; and (8) Mapping. The research question was identified using population, exposure, and outcome(s) (PEOS) framework. The search included Wiley Online Library, EBSCO, ProQuest, and PubMed databases. The inclusion criteria were English-language and full-text articles published between 2009 and 2019. A total of 307 articles were obtained by the searched database. After the review process, seven articles were eligible for this review. The data were reported by the PRISMA flow chart. Results: Six articles from developing countries (Brazil, Mexico, Zambia, Malawi, and Romania) and one report from developed countries (Australia) met the inclusion criteria with qualitative, quantitative (cross-sectional), and descriptive studies. The existing studies stated that adolescent pregnancy had adverse effects on both mother and babies’ health and well-being. Young maternal age is associated with low parity, lack of prenatal care, premature, and low birth weight. Factors contributed to the increased adolescent pregnancy rate were early sexual initiation, low use of contraception, low educational level, low socioeconomic status, inadequate knowledge about sexual and reproductive health, and gender disparity. Conclusion: Young maternal age contributes to adverse pregnancy outcomes of both mothers and babies. Early sexual health education and health promotion on teenage girls may reduce the risk of adolescent pregnancy rates. ABSTRACT Background: Women of reproductive need higher nutrition intake to obtain adequate levels of nutrition prepare for pregnancy and during their pregnancy. Inadequate nutrition intakes in pregnant women have been reported to lead to poor maternal and infant outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the effects of fad diets and other factors on the risk of chronic energy deficiency among adolescent females at the boarding school. Subjects and Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Islamic boarding school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A sample of 200 female adolescents aged 19-24 years was selected by simple random sampling. The dependent variable was CED. The independent variables were perception toward body image, calorie intake, protein intake, fad diet, stress, and knowledge toward nutrition. The data were collected by digital weight scale, microtoise, mid-upper arm circumference tape, and questionnaire. The data were analyzed by a multiple logistic regression run on Stata 13. Results: The risk of CED in female adolescents increased with negative body image (OR= 2.30; 95% CI= 1.02 to 5.18; p= 0.044), fad diet (OR= 3.94; 95% CI= 1.71 to 9.08; p= 0.001), and high stress (OR= 7.02; 95% CI= 2.93 to 16.83; p<0.001). The risk of CED decreased with high calorie intake (OR= 0.31; 95% CI= 0.14 to 0.69; p= 0.005), high protein intake (OR= 0.30; 95% CI= 0.11 to 0.83; p= 0.020), and high knowledge toward nutrition (OR= 0.43; 95% CI= 0.20 to 0.96; p= 0.038). Conclusion: The risk of CED in female adolescents increases with negative body image, fad diet, and high stress. The risk of CED decreases with high calorie intake, high protein intake, and high knowledge toward nutrition. Abstract:

Background: Interest to the opposite sex is one changing that is happened in adolescence. Dating behavior of adolescents can be the beginning of premarital sex that will impact on the emergence of adolescent reproductive health problems such as unintended pregnancy and STDs/HIV/AIDS. The purpose of this study was to give description of factors related to dating behavior of early adolescents in North Coastal line, West Java. Subject and Methods: Type of this research was descriptive analytic with cross sectional design. The research was conducted in Pusakajaya Public Junior High School 1 and 2, Subang Regency. Population of this study was all of students at class VII in the selected schools. Sample of the study determined by purposive sampling technique with criteria the students ever had a lover or currently they were having a boyfriend/girlfriend. Number of respondents were 269 students. Data collection was done by interview using questionnaire as a tool. Data was reviewed using univariate and bivariate analysis. Results: Results of this study showed that 36,8% of the respondent had risky dating behavior, 25,7% did not live with their parent, 57,2% of them had low religiosity,74,7% had lack of knowledge in sexuality, 47,6% had negative attitude toward risky dating, 53,9% ever accessed pornography content and 48,3% had friend with risky dating behavior. Using Chi Square test to analyze showed that factors related to risky dating behavior were low religiosity (OR=44,68 ;95%CI=15,65 to 127,56; p=0,000), lack of knowledge (OR=14,34; 95%CI=5,03 to 40,87; p=0,000), negative attitude (OR=34,73; 95%CI=16,01 to 75,35; p=0,000), accessed pornography content (OR=79.02; 95%CI=23,89 to 261,33; p=0,000) and negative behavior of friends (OR=201,3 ;95%CI=47,19 to 859,04; p=0,000). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between religiosity, knowledge, attitude, access to pornography content and dating behavior of friends with risky dating behavior. Abstract:

Objective. To conduct a systematic review of the literature on the safety of vaccines recommended for routine immunization in the United States, updating the 2014 Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) report on the topic. Data sources. We searched MEDLINE®, Embase®, CINAHL®, Cochrane CENTRAL, Web of Science, and Scopus through November 9, 2020, building on the prior 2014 report; reviewed existing reviews, trial registries, and supplemental material submitted to AHRQ; and consulted with experts. Review methods. This report addressed three Key Questions (KQs) on the safety of vaccines currently in use in the United States and included in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommended immunization schedules for adults (KQ1), children and adolescents (KQ2), and pregnant women (KQ3). The systematic review was supported by a Technical Expert Panel that identified key adverse events of particular concern. Two reviewers independently screened publications; data were extracted by an experienced subject matter expert. Studies of vaccines that used a comparator and reported the presence or absence of adverse events were eligible. We documented observed rates and assessed the relative risks for key adverse events. We assessed the strength of evidence (SoE) across the existing findings from the prior 2014 report and the new evidence from this update. The systematic review is registered in PROSPERO (CRD42020180089). Results. A large body of evidence is available to evaluate adverse events following vaccination. Of 56,608 reviewed citations, 189 studies met inclusion criteria for this update, adding to data in the prior 2014 report, for a total of 338 included studies reported in 518 publications. Regarding vaccines recommended for adults (KQ1), we found either no new evidence of increased risk for key adverse events with varied SoE or insufficient evidence in this update, including for newer vaccines such as recombinant influenza vaccine, adjuvanted inactivated influenza vaccine, and recombinant adjuvanted zoster vaccine. The prior 2014 report noted a signal for anaphylaxis for hepatitis B vaccines in adults with yeast allergy and for tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis vaccines. Regarding vaccines recommended for children and adolescents (KQ2), we found either no new evidence of increased risk for key adverse events with varied SoE or insufficient evidence, including for newer vaccines such as 9-valent human papillomavirus vaccine and meningococcal B vaccine. The prior 2014 report noted signals for rare adverse events—such as anaphylaxis, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, and febrile seizures—with some childhood vaccines. Regarding vaccines recommended for pregnant women (KQ3), we found no evidence of increased risk for key adverse events with varied SoE among either pregnant women or their infants following administration of tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis vaccines during pregnancy. Conclusion. Across this large body of research, we found no new evidence of increased risk since the prior 2014 report for key adverse events following administration of vaccines that are routinely recommended. Signals from the prior report remain unchanged for rare adverse events, which include anaphylaxis in adults and children, and febrile seizures and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura in children. There is no evidence of increased risk of adverse events for vaccines currently recommended in pregnant women. There remains insufficient evidence to draw conclusions about some rare potential adverse events.

Abstract:

While many people get HIV-related counseling and testing, only those who receive pre- and post-test counseling, and test voluntarily, are participating in voluntary counseling and testing (VCT). The high rates of HIV infection among youth make it crucial to find programs to prevent infection. Because there is evidence that many adults benefit from VCT, there is increasing interest in extending these services to young people. VCT counseling helps adolescents evaluate their own behavior and its consequences. A negative test result offers the opportunity to recognize vulnerabilities and develop risk-reduction plans to adopt safe behaviors. Young people who test HIV-positive can receive referrals for care and have opportunities to discuss and understand what their HIV status means and what responsibilities they have to themselves and others as a result. Young women who are pregnant and test HIV-positive should be offered special care to safeguard their own health and minimize the risk of passing the virus to the baby. This report assesses the available evidence about the current status of VCT and youth in developing countries.
