Abstract.WHO IS GOING WITH YOU TO THE PARTY? MANAGING CONFLICT BETWEEN PARENTS AND ADOLESCENTSFamily life may be may be in risk when parents and adolescent face conflicts from closed positions. The processes of conflict demand perspectivism competences as an essential resource to facilitate the achievement of satisfactory arrangements for all through adequate argumentation. The purpose of this paper has been to analyze the skills of parents and adolescents to adopt other perspectives when discussing a conflict by means of observational methodology. The study was carried out with 29 families (constituted by father, mother and an adolescent son or daughter) who were recorded while they argued about a real conflict. Frequency of five levels of perspective-taking were registered (Myself; Reasoned myself; The other like an obstacle; The other adding to me; and Us) in the discourse of the family, and also in the different members of the triad, considering their interrelations. The results were showing a moderated level of perspective-taking in family discussions, predominating the levels Reasoned myself, focused on explaining own perspective, and The other like an obstacle, focused on reasons to contest the perspective of the other. In general parents showed more perspective-taking. Particularly the mothers exhibited more sensitivity with her adolescent son or daughter, providing higher levels of perspective-taking and argumentation. Keywords: Family conflicts, parents-adolescents, oral argumentation, perspective-taking, negotiation.

Abstract:
Background/Aim. Adolescence is characterized both by a large developmental potential and by an increased risk for emergence of different forms of psychopathology. International classifications of mental disorders recognize the psychopathology of adolescence at the age of 15?18 through the categories of conduct disorders and some forms of addiction: chemical and non-chemical. The aim of this research was to analyse the personality structure among four groups of adolescents manifesting different types of conduct disorder based on Cloninger?s Psychobiological theory of personality. Methods. The research sample consisted of 140 respondents at the age of 16?18, divided into five groups: 30 respondents manifesting socialized conduct disorder, 20 adolescents in conflict with the law, 30 respondents manifesting abuse of psychoactive substances, 30 respondents with the problem of the Internet addiction and 30 from general population. The Belgrade Adolescent Personality Inventory (BAPI) questionnaire was used for the purpose of assessment of personality. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), followed by univariate analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to examine differences between the given groups of adolescents. Results. The results of MANOVA show differences in the personality structure among the groups, both in the dimensions of temperament, F (20,418.84) = 2.71, p < 0.001, Wilks?s lambda 0.67, and in the dimensions of character, F (12,344.24) = 3.27, p < 0.001, Wilks?s lambda is 0.75. Socialized conduct disorder is characterized by low selfdirectedness and average cooperativeness. Adolescents in conflict with the law have the lowest persistence, together with low self-directedness and cooperativeness. Adolescents abusing psychoactive substances have low harm avoidance and self-transcendence. Adolescents with Internet addiction are characterized by high novelty seeking (impulsivity and curiosity), low self-directedness and the lowest cooperativeness. Conclusion. The results show that the dimensions of personality can play an important role in etiopathogenesis of various disorders in adolescents.

Abstract:
This paper analyses the discursive reconstruction of the Basque armed conflict in the oral narratives of the first post-conflict generation among Oñati’s inhabitants, in order to observe how collective memory is being built and transmitted to the younger generations after the end of ETA’s attacks. Using a discursive-historical approach and based on both in-depth and collective interviews, it focuses on three main aspects: how these adolescents categorise and evaluate events and actors of the violent past, the level of identification towards the events narrated, and the main canals through which both knowledge and attitudes are being transmitted. It concludes that adolescents perceive the conflict rather in its immaterial forms such as feelings and prejudices, and that they rely mostly on educational and familiar discourses when rebuilding the past. Some of the main voids identified are also signalised in this paper.

Abstract:
Objective: to determine the incidence and associations of attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), conduct disorder (CD), and substance abuse disorder (SAD) in adolescents in conflict with the law in a Brazilian cohort. Methods: the Brazilian version of the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Aged-Children (K-SADS-PL) was administered to 69 adolescent boys who were incarcerated for 45 days in the city of Curitiba, Brazil. Results: mean age was 15.5 years (range, 12-16.9 years) and most adolescents originated from disadvantaged social classes (87%). They resided in neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city or towns in the greater metropolitan area. Truancy and low educational achievement were common, with 73.9% not currently attending school and 43.4% not having finished the 5th grade. The great majority lived in single-parent families and many had relatives who themselves had problems with the law. Psychiatric disorders were apparent in 81.1% of the subjects, with the most common disorders being CD (59.4%), SAD (53.6%), and ADHD (43.5%). Both ADHD (p <0.001) and CD (p <0.01) had significant associations with substance abuse. Conclusion: in male adolescents in conflict with the law, ADHD, CD, and SAD were all found to be associated with delinquency.

Abstract:
The evaluation and treatment of internalizing disorders in children and adolescents has a long and rich tradition in the psychology and clinical psychiatry of the child. However, the use of longitudinal data to elucidate the evolution and outcome of these conditions, as well as their assessment and treatment, is less developed in the embryonic development stage. However, there have been interesting developments and significant progress has been made. The emergence of the field of developmental psychopathology in the last 10 years (Achenbach, 1982, Cicchetti, 1984; Rutter & Garmezy, 1983; Sroufe & Rutter, 1984), with emphasis on the continuity and discontinuity of the behavior between the embryonic phase, childhood, adolescence, is particularly welcome and timely, providing a good concern for the future. The identification of the dimensions of the personality structure is very important during the adolescence period, because during this period the correct development of the adolescents is based on stimulating several areas in close connection with their activity. A balanced teenager chooses activities that contribute to character development, self-confidence, socializing skills, identifying passions and making decisions. Behavior disorder can be defined as persistent disruptive behavior, in which the young person repeatedly violates the rights of others or the social norms corresponding to the age. It is often preceded by opposition and defiance in the early years and may become more skewed during adolescence. Symptoms include property damage, lying or theft, harassment, breaking rules and aggression against humans or animals. Adolescents with behavioral disorders often have concomitant disorders, such as depression, suicidal behavior, and poor relationships with peers and adults. Consequences include school problems, school expulsions, academic and professional failure and problems with the law. Parents and families need support to help ensure that young people do not get away from school, and that severely affected adolescents should turn to mental health professionals for assessment and care.

ABSTRACT Objective: To understand the meaning of being institutionalized and in conflict with the law for the institutionalized adolescent. Method: A qualitative, phenomenological-comprehensive study carried out in a Socio-educational Service Foundation in the northern region of Brazil, with 05 institutionalized adolescents. The analysis was carried out under the understanding of the content suggested by Heidgger, thus allowing the construction of analytical categories for a hermeneutical interpretation. Results: Conflicting with the law means something negative and bad for the institutionalized adolescents, in which they understand that although there is deprivation of liberty, the period of hospitalization is an important moment for the reflection on the need to start over. Conclusion: The meaning of conflicting with the law goes far beyond a simple word, act or behaviour, it is something that only those who experience the phenomenon are able to unveil, arouse deep feelings and provide reflection to the adolescent about the damages caused by the infraction.

Abstract:PEDAGOGICAL MEDIATION PROCESS IN ADOLESCENTS OFFENDERS OF LAW: TOWARDS A NEW PARADIGM IN EDUCATIONToday, school and culture are configured as social territories in permanent dispute and tension, due to the heterogeneity of its members, the impact of globalization and the neoliberal system that installs hegemonic practices not only of domination, but also resistance and subversion. We also note from the Industrial Revolution, the school adopts and reproduces asymmetrical and hierarchical relationships among its members, from a logical instructional teaching that limits the potential for development of students, and especially for adolescents who are in conflict with the law. Thus, the school has been and continues to be, a highly normative space that conveys very different codes that has an adolescent offender bill that also does not allow that chance, creativity, autonomy and improvisation fulfill their educational role. Thus, we dream of developing a perspective that enables us psicosocioeducativa interpret and explain the propensity to learn from private juvenile offenders law of liberty, in the processes of pedagogical mediation becoming interested while discovering criteria that allow pedagogical action overcome the crisis of school model, through a critical and democratic pedagogy that is able to integrate processes of social transformation, as antidotes to hopelessness and social exclusion. These reflections, recognize the complexity of educational phenomena and reinforce the need to consider schools as democratic public spheres, as an essential step in an emancipatory critical pedagogy. Keywords: Culture, Learning, Theories of Resistance in Education, Adolescence, Propensity to Learn.

Abstract:
In recent years, with increasing awareness and reports of child sexual abuse, government and nongovernment agencies working in the areas of child and adolescent health, education, welfare, and protection are increasingly looking to implement initiatives on child safety and psychosocial health, both from preventive and curative perspectives. It is critical, however, to recognize that the child sexual abuse programming needs to take into consideration the age and the developmental stage of children. Childhood encompasses the period from 0 to 18 years; however, sexuality-related issues of adolescents are vastly different from younger children. While the adolescent sexual rights’ debates (for adolescents) to engage in physical intimacy and sexual behavior or not may continue, most childcare workers unanimously agree on adolescents’ need for sexuality awareness and education. Adolescent sexual issues range from sexual abuse to mutually consenting romantic and sexual relationships and engagement in sexually inappropriate behaviors with young children; for the last-mentioned point, adolescents also come into conflict with the law. This article discusses the need for public health and community-based approaches to address this range and complexity in adolescent sexuality, also sharing concrete field-based, pilot-tested methodologies and resources to work on this issue.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to assess the psychosocial factors of adolescents’ problem behavior. Within this research, the relationships among family structure, parental modeling, parental monitoring, and adolescents’ self-regulation were assessed. Data were collected by self-report questionnaires. The sample consisted of 150 participants aged 14 to 17. Sixty adolescents were in conflict with the law, and the other 90 adolescents who did not have such a contact with the legal system. Results show that more adolescents in conflict with the law live in single-parent families than their peers who do not have a similar experience. At the same time, adolescents living with single parents have a higher mean score of problem behavior and a lower mean score of parental monitoring. Correlational and regression analyses revealed that parents’ problem behavior models and parental monitoring are statistically significant predictors of adolescents’ problem behavior. In the present study, self-regulation was revealed to be a significant correlate of adolescents’ problem behavior, and that family factors mediate the relationship between self-regulation and problem behavior. Results also confirm the importance of an approach for the prevention of deviant behavior focused primarily on family supporting measures.

Abstract Students strongly bonded to the educational institution are more motivated to study and less likely to present behavioral problems and/or juvenile delinquency. This study's objective was to verify the existence of variations in school bonding among different groups of adolescents and identify the most problematic aspects among adolescents in conflict with the law from the perspective of Marc LeBlanc's Social and Personal Control Theory of Deviant Behavior. The 60 adolescents participating in the study responded to the Portuguese version of the School Scale, part of the Measuring Adolescent Social and Personal Adaptation Scale. The results reveal that the level of school bonding differentiated the groups, showing that offenders who dropped out of school obtained the worst indicators of school bonding when considering investment and commitment levels, as well as attachment to teachers.

Abstract:
 Abstract
The purpose of this article is to identify and examine the main structural and procedural challenges of social reintegration for adolescents in Mexico, as well as to analyze the possible transformation of the current justice system for adolescents (which is positivist, punitive and sustained in penitentiary practices that violate human rights), into a justice system that heals and restores social and institutional omissions, and also the conditions of exclusion and marginalization that historically have characterized adolescents in conflict with the law. For such purposes, the ethnographic method is used, through interviews and focus groups with organizations of civil society. The theoretical framework is based on critical theory, fundamentally criminological. It is concluded that, although restorative justice has been incorporated declaratively into penitentiary mechanisms, the positivist nucleus of the penal system still produces and allows violations of human rights, even with the work developed by civil associations focused on the fundamental dimension of restorative justice: the social bond between the youth and the community.

Abstract:
AbstractThis study examines the relation between adolescents' antisocial behaviors and adrenocortical activity during a laboratory visit in a sample of economically disadvantaged families (N= 116, ages 12–14, 51% female). Pretask cortisol levels indexed adolescents' prechallenge response to the lab visit, whereas adolescents' response to a conflict discussion with their caregivers was indexed with residualized change in pre- to postconflict cortisol levels. A trait measure of antisocial behavior (derived from parent, teacher, and self-reports) was associated with lower pretask cortisol levels but greater cortisol response to the conflict discussion. Gender moderated antisocial adolescents' cortisol response to the conflict discussion with girls who reported more covert risky problem behaviors showing an increased cortisol response. The findings suggest that, although antisocial adolescents had lower pretask cortisol levels, conflict discussions with caregivers present a unique challenge to antisocial girls compared with antisocial boys.

Abstract:
In order to understand this reality, various psychological, social and cultural factors involved should be taken into account, seeking the interlocution among different scientific bodies of knowledge to avoid a simplistic and/or unilateral reading of the problem. In this perspective and aiming to contribute to the expansion of the adolescent analysis in conflict with the law, the present work presents the theoretical perspective of the winnicottian psychoanalysis, which understands that the human development process depends largely on the environmental provision so that the subject integrates and can relate to the world in a healthy way. In situations where the environment is very intrusive, not respecting or contemplating the most emergent demands of the child, could develop a behavior, called by Winnicott Antisocial Tendency. The main characteristics of this type of conduct and its relation with the practice of infractions are highlighted in the text, pointing that such conduct can signal a request for help and the search in the environment for something that can restore what was taken and lost. In addition, the guidelines on clinical and institutional interventions for adolescents in conflict with the law are discussed, with the anchor of the winnicottian orientation psychoanalysis. Keywords: Adolescence. Abstract:
Abstract:
Because a callous use of others in many short-term relationships is one criterion for diagnosing psychopathy in adults, one would expect adolescents who are high on psychopathic personality traits to have unstable, conflict-ridden peer relationships. Little is known about this, however, or about the peer activities of youths who are high in psychopathic traits. The authors examined relationship quality and delinquency with peers in a community sample of 12- to 15-year-old adolescents who were stably high or stably low on psychopathic traits during 4 years. Peers also provided data on relationship quality. Youths high on psychopathic traits often engaged in antisocial activities with their peers. Although they reported conflict in their peer relationships, their peers did not report low support or high conflict in those relationships. The authors conclude that youths with psychopathic traits have biased perspectives on interactions with close peers, and this might underlie future problems.

Abstract:
Medidas Socioeducativas. Adolescentes em Conflito com a Lei.AbstractThe term “socioeducation” has been widely used in Brazil already for some decades, especially in the area of care technologies for adolescents in conflict with the law. However, it seems that there is not much clarity about what it refers to, thus we conclude that it still lacks conceptual consistency. This theoretical paper aims to provide the socio-educational community with a proposal of conceptual delimitation for the term, starting from the historical route persecution from which it is tributary, as well as the critical analysis of its use in legislation and literature. This historical-legal perquisition led us to the discovery that in the early twentieth century the understanding that in the early years the individual is more susceptible to instruction and correction came in the juvenile justice system, favoring the thesis that minors offenders should be, rather than punished, socially rehabilitated through education.Since then, an intentionality of to correct juvenile criminal behaviors through educational strategies has spread around the world under several labels. We understand that socioeducation is the Brazilian updated version of this attempt. It refers to educational processes directed at adolescents in conflict with the law aiming at non-recurrence of infraction. The study offers a contribution to the topic theoretical development. Keywords: Socioeducation. Definition. Conceptualization. Socioeducative Measures. Adolescents in Conflict with the Law.

Abstract:
Many adolescents reach full cognitive development by age 15. Age 18, however, has been designated the age when adolescents may give consent to medical treatment. When the reasoning ability of the adolescent has reached maturation, but the law does not afford the adolescent the ability to utilize his or her reasoning ability, conflicts may arise. Parents may wish one set of treatments for their child and the child may wish for a different type of treatment. When the adolescent is the client of a rehabilitation counselor or healthcare professional, ethical dilemmas may also arise. Supporting the adolescent will support his or her autonomy, however, it may concurrently stifle beneficence or nonmaleficence. This paper addresses issues relevant when dealing with adolescents and informed medical consent. These issues include legal, ethical, and familial implications. Guidelines to assist rehabilitation counselors are also offered.

Abstract:
Abstract. The popularity of digital games among adolescents has raised public and scientific concern about players drifting into excessive or pathological gaming patterns. Among the neglected issues in this area of research is the question of whether excessive gaming reflects a transient phenomenon during adolescence or a temporally stable pathological behavior that requires external intervention. In a correlational panel study with two points of measurement, we investigated the temporal stability of excessive gaming in German adolescents (N = 488; aged 12–17 years at Time 1) over a time lag of 1 year. Among the video game players in our sample, 2.8% were classified as excessive gamers at both points of measurement. The correlation of excessive gaming between T1 and T2 was found to be relatively moderate (r = .54). Detailed inspection revealed even lower stability scores for each single component of excessive gaming such as tolerance or conflict, with the most problematic elements (stealing, borrowing money because of gaming problems) displaying the lowest stabilities (r < .30). Thus, the results indicate that – at least for the large majority of adolescent players – excessive gaming is a transient and not a stable condition. Theoretical and policy implications are discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract This article addresses the autonomy of children and adolescents in healthcare decisions, focusing on those ones that might entail a risk to the child’s life or health, especially when a medical intervention is refused. In these cases, a conflict between the recognition of the autonomy of the child and his or her protection arises, and various legal systems solve it in different ways. This study examines this issue from a comparative perspective between Belgian and Spanish laws, taking into account that the latter was rewritten in 2015 to leave out all underage patients’ decisions that could constitute a risk for their life or health.

This article is the result of a research that problematizes the public policies directed to the youth that commits offensive conducts, especially the adolescent women. Guided by Michel Foucault's thought, we discuss and analyze how the discourse on the young population in conflict with the law is operationalized to legitimize interventions in the socio-educational environment. We started from the Foucauldian archaeogenealogy to think about the present in power-knowledge relations, reflecting on the discourses on the rights of young women who serve socio-educational measures, because the policies of socio-education have been designed for young men, invisibilizing the specific conditions that imply the entry of girls into the Brazilian justice system. The operationalization of public policies for youth in conflict with the law, in the present, indicates the implementation of measures that, subsidized by speeches produced in the relationship between health institutions and justice, violate the rights guaranteed by law.

Abstract:
This research aims to analyze the resocialization process of the second generation of adolescents and young people from the Meninos de Deus project and the contributions of socio-affective relationships in the resignification of individual trajectory in the context of violence in the Santa Filomena community. The study is necessary to understand the importance of strengthening the resocialization processes in an open space, which has the triad of public authorities, civil society and the community as the executing nucleus of socio-educational measures. The Meninos de Deus group was born in 2007 and was born from a pact, among youths in conflict with the law, based on the premise of mutual care, commitment to life and in the re-socializing walk with the community. In this group, the feeling of belonging is opposed to the feeling that young people and adolescents in conflict with the law had with the youth gang or the criminal faction they belonged. The methodology to be used is ethnography, where we will use field research, characterized as an integration of data obtained in the field and by bibliographic reading.

Abstract:
This paper analyzes the current relationship between Peruvian teenagers and television. The information accessed from various sources concluded that adolescents are consuming television extensively, especially the poorer within the country. Teens appreciate the cable television as a source of learning, and its variety and ability to relate it with the world. The interest in cartoons, movies and series –fiction genre in general– affirms the value of this media in society as well as the possibility to make them more familiar with their environment. Information about what happens beyond their localities is a source of reference in their perception of the country. Beyond the cultural conflict from which is generally assessed from the effects that television may have on the rural world, television has a positive sign for the visual deterritorialization, which dissolves the natural relationship between culture and territory. In rural areas, parents and teenagers evaluate television positively because it offers more than just the school itself. In the midst of academic and professional criticism on television, adolescents do not distinguish between traditional media and new media, they are all integrated into their daily lives.

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractPrevious studies have examined the moderating effect of respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) on the association between marital conflict and externalizing problems, however the findings were inconsistent. One possible reason is that the covariation of internalizing problems in externalizing problems. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine this issue. Participants were 332 Chinese adolescents (54.5% boys) age from 13 to 15 years old. At T1, electrocardiogram monitoring was performed on adolescents during the resting state and stressor tasks (a speech task and a mental arithmetic task) to obtain RSA data. The Chinese version of the Achenbach Youth Self-Report-2001 (YSR-2001) and the Chinese version of the Children’s Perception of Interparental Conflict scale were used to assess adolescents’ externalizing and internalizing problems and their perception of marital conflict, respectively. Adolescents’ problem behaviors were assessed again in the second and third waves of data collection, with a 1-year lag among each wave. The results revealed that the 3- interactions of marital conflict × RSA reactivity in speech task × sex significantly predicted the trajectory of externalizing problems when controlling for internalizing problems from externalizing problems. Specifically, girls with greater RSA suppression to the speech task reported low and stable externalizing problems, however, boys with the same pattern were associated with slightly increased levels of externalizing problems. While, RSA augmentation to the speech task predicted the increase in externalizing problems among both girls and boys in high marital conflict families over time. However, this interaction effects were not significant when not partial out internalizing problems from externalizing problems. The findings highlight the importance of controlling for the covariation of internalizing problems when examining the interaction effects of person and environment on the development of adolescents’ externalizing problems.

Abstract:
Abstract As majority of criminal cases in the Philippines are often challenged by the plight to obtain voluntary narratives from Children who are in Conflict with the Law (CICL) (National Police Commission, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Republic of the Philippines 2009. Adoption of the police manual on the management of cases of children in conflict with the law (CICL) and the simplified rules in the apprehension and investigation of CICL, Resolution No. 415.), and Forensic Linguistics being a relatively new field in the local setting, it is timely to assess the questioning strategies heavily relied upon by law enforcement officers in the investigative process. However, questioning strategies geared to address purely the investigations of children in conflict with the law has so far been hardly formally investigated. This study was aimed at examining the questioning strategies used in by the authorities in investigating adolescents accused of crime against property. Fifteen transcripts of audio-recorded investigative interviews from selected law enforcement authorities in Manila and Quezon City were analyzed vis-à-vis (Shepherd, Eric. 2007. Investigative interviewing: The conversation management approach. Oxford: Oxford University Press). Forms of Questions and (Gibbons, John. 2003. Forensic Linguistics: An introduction to language in the justice system. Malden, MA: Blackwell Publishing) Cognitive Interview (CI) frameworks. Based on (Shepherd, Eric. 2007. Investigative interviewing: The conversation management approach. Oxford: Oxford University Press) Shepherd’s framework, results yielded reveal that most officers employed counter-productive questions, i.e. abusive, intimidating, and aggressive techniques to prompt controlled confession from alleged youth offenders. The study also found that the investigative officers did not follow a specific interviewing structure in handling cases of alleged youth offenders. As the use of appropriate questioning techniques have been presented in the study, it is recommended that a pivotal redraft be made in police CICL interviewing manuals.
