A new concept of a "fiber sorbent" has been investigated. The fiber sorbent is produced as a pseudo-monolithic material comprising polymer (cellulose acetate, CA) and zeolite (NaY) by applying hollow fiber spinning technology. In addition, the zeolite crystals are homogeneously dispersed in the polymer matrix with high loading. The zeolite is the main contributor to sorption capacity of the fiber sorbent. The effective adsorption sites, surface area and the contact probability with molecules of adsorbents are related to the contact of solid and solution in the system, solid-solution ratio (SSR or S/W), and those affect the adsorption behavior of contaminants. However, the influence of SSR is generally neglected and causes bias on the correctly of estimation and description of adsorption behaviors. Hence, it i

Abstract:
Carbon dioxide (CO2) atmospheric emissions are regarded as the major cause of global climate change. South Africa aims to reduce its current emissions of over 400 Mton per annum through carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) technology by initially implementing the storage phase. Storage of captured CO2 into various sites (such as coal, rocks, aquifers and etc) is a globally accepted means to mitigate the accumulation of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the atmosphere. Before storing CO2, adsorption isotherms must be generated using a volumetric adsorption system (VAS). A VAS is used to dete

abstract: The world is grappling with two serious issues related to energy and climate change. The use of solar energy is receiving much attention due to its potential as one of the solutions. Air conditioning is particularly attractive as a solar energy application because of the near coincidence of peak cooling loads with the available solar power. Recently, researchers have started serious discussions of using adsorptive processes for refrigeration and heat pumps. There is some success for the >100 ton adsorption systems but none exists in the <10 ton size range required for residential air

Two different adsorption beds and two different condensers are tested in the experiment. One adsorption bed is made by 3mm diameter copper tubes and the thickness of coated silica gel is 2mm. The silica gel weight of copper-tubes adsorption bed is 0.8 kg. Another adsorption bed is made by flat-tube heat exchanger whose volume and thickness of silica gel are the same as copper-tube adsorption bed. The weight of silica gel is 1.46 kg. The first condenser is a c
