Full textAdultery has figured in various forms in the repressive arsenal of successive legislators who, from the 1789 revolution to the current day, have studied fidelity between spouses ; with the current disapperance of adultery as penal offence, the judical evolution of marriage shows the protection which, following successive acquisitions of new-found freedom and equality (sexual freedom, equality of the sexes, has become of less and less concern to law order. The history of adultery as a penal offence, is thus indissociable from the evolution of a socio-religious concept : the indissolubility of marriage. When associated the indissolubility of marriage, this incrimination tends to censure the finality, which is notably to enable christian spouses to remain as one at the centre of the united family. The penal offence thus ensures the defence of marriage, a fundamental social institution. The incrimination on the other hand, tends to disappear during periods of dissolubility of marriage, when it loses its consistence, to leave the institutional field for simple contractual field ; in this case adultery is simply a civil incident. Two important period mark recent history of adultery as a penal offence. From 1816 to 1884 it was the main rampart af the indissoluble marriage (Part I) ; from 1884, the offence, henceforthat the service of dissoluble marriage, lost any reason to exist and became ineffective before completely disappearing (Part II)

Full textThis dissertation aims to confront the two archetypes of the prostitute and the adulterous woman in the XVIth century Venetian society. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, this text examines literary works – well known and unpublished – and the legal sources of the Serenissima. Looking beyond binary oppositions between individual desires for freedom and the repressive control apparatus by the State, this study works to clarify the ways in which the sexual tensions come from the economical, political and social contradictions which governed gender relationships in the republic of Venice. It first analyzes sexual and sentimental norms of the early-modern society. It will then define the ways in which licit and illicit love overlap, especially during the key moment of seduction. This will allow us to elucidate the specificities of female adultery and prostitution as forms of extra-conjugal sexuality. It will then be possible to trace the history of prostitution's management by the Venetian government. The latter recognized thea legal status of venal love, from which the ruling class could benefit. But we will also show how antiputtanesca poetry reflects the concerns of that social class. Adultery may similarly be seen as a contradictory practice, violently condemned by the law but part of young men's socialization before their wedding. Finally, one important aspect of this research stands in the presentation of various unpublished antiputtaneschi poems, often anonymous: we will display their rich intertextuality

Full textAt all times, Man seems to have resigned himself to perform the course of his existence under the influence or even the tutelage of secrecy. Our contemporary society does not infringe upon this rule. Very often, Man appears "loaded" with a secret which inevitably he will not try to discard. Quite the contrary. Secrets seem to show themselves under a protective form with a synchronising function among members of a group. A secret becomes an illusion and renders achievable the modification of a sad or maladjusted reality. It is where the sacred meets the imagination and sometimes even the proscription. A secret, a polysemous and polymorphous object, varies in its sense, its functions, and its forms according to the environment in which it is confronted. This research is presented and is experienced as a voyage, an exploration passing through the abysses of three parallel worlds, those of adultery, illness and freemasonry. To experience such an expedition in such abounding and heterogeneous fields requires the accompaniment of a guide. The companion chosen is the character of the Faust legend. With the help of this guide we have been able to travel into the depths and discover secrecy itself, carrying with us in our luggage, symbolism and imagination…Throughout our voyages, secrecy has become a myth-like narrative entity, drawing its strength from this ability to exist through shadows and opposites, providing us simultaneously with a poisonous charm, potency, power and magic

Full textThe main subject of this study is seduction and it's counterpart love. Seduction is the starting point of the thematic study of each chapter. Through the study of various contemporary french and american novels, we have to draw the map of the new loving landscape and to point out the literary variations of the loving behaviour. This study is not only based on the thematic of the novels but also on their resemblances and their differences. However, it is not only built on the comparison between the literature of the two countries. It is also based on the opposition, in each country, between two forms of seduction and love. The two forms can be summarized as follows : a destructive and dangerous form, and an idyllic one. These two forms are different in each country but we can find resemblances. In french literature, the theme of seduction is simultaneously represented in an evil and a perverse way and in a romantic form, which provides the apology of hapiness and happy couple. In the american literature, seduction is presented in two differents forms. Firstly, there is a cruel seduction, because it happens essentially in extra-marital love affairs. Secondly, there is an ideal seduction. This seduction appearsin a particuliar type of novels. It can be found in sentimental novels, which can be called harlequin romances, and, thus, in love stories written by danielle steel. Hence, we can define two literary worlds privileging the description of love through seduction. The novels studied are novels of society which are the image of a form of throught and of a way of life. But, before beginnning the study of the corpus, we have to look back upon the sources in order to give some definitions but also to remind who were the great tempters in literature

Full textMy choice of twenty-eight films that span Italian cinema is predicated on the act of adultery, from the perspective of the advent of the threesome and the breaking up of the initial couple. I shall use cinema and sociology in close connection to try and show the evolution of the filming of lovers’ intimacy, throughout periods marked, among other things, by the influence of the Catholic religion on the behaviour of different protagonists. Relations outside of marriage are offered as “representations” which, according to José Moure, have “a dual value” that can come into the perception of both images and soundtracks, and meet both an “ethical” and an “aesthetic” standard

Full textThis thesis describes the sentimental evolution of middle-class women while focusing on the edges of their love lives. The first three parts analyse what is said about woman and love, about being married and about having sex ; the fourth part deals with the practical requirements of adultery intercourse and the fifth one with the moralists' questioning and the juridical implications of guilty love. Trapped in relentless theories about her so-called natural inferiority woman conjugates the verb to love on the submissive mood. Whether in mariage - sole opportunity of integration into the social body - or in adultery - new attempt at finding out the ideal promised from childhood onwards - woman faces the same difficulties in defining herself as an individual. Feminine adultery, often put forward as a claim, however implicit, against mariage as a state of dependency, can't bring forth any kind of valorization to the married woman. The very idealization of love leads but to disappointment, if not break-up. As a matter of fact, by substituting for a man - the hus- band - another man - the lover - adultery seldom changes the set parts. It seems to be a way of evading the issue more than the beginnings of a true reflection

Full textDivorce as an object of literary study, the proposal may surprise. The distinctiveness of fields and areas of research requires that a choice be made to study the question from a historical, political, legal, social or moral point of view. Literature, however, is never even considered. In 1884, the rehabilitation of divorce in French legislation was the result of an unusual combination of politics and literature. From the editorials and columns of the newspapers, in essays and in books, the narration of matrimonial misfortunes of men and women caught strangled by the law, wrestling against a civil inevitability that constrains their private and conjugal life, clamors for un-marriage. While the ties between literature and the claims for legal disunion are secular, linked in the works of George Sand, the battle of pens fighting against the indissolubility of marriage will significantly change the thinking of engaged literature and encourage a reasoning on the role of the writer, his relation to the law, and to demonstrate the power of literature on morals and the drafting of legislation. As a valuable analytical tool to understand the intellectual, literary and narrative aspects of the beginnings of the Third Republic, the un-marriage topic can be used to study the representation of conjugality in the French narrative of the end of the 19th century. Henceforth legal, divorce in fact transforms the imagination of literature on private morals and inaugurates new narrative situations: the encounter with the former husband, the jealousy of the new husband, the second wedding night, and the sexual past of the woman, all soon become common practice in the literary genre. The promulgation of divorce nevertheless rudely tests French narrative customs: by offering a solution to stories of adultery, divorce breaks a secular narrative model, and obliges literature to rethink its fatalities and its forms

Full textThis literary study examines sexual transgression through adultery, in the work Des contes et nouvelles en vers written by La Fontaine between 1665 and 1671, published by Claude Barbin until 1671. These erotic tales describe through the satirical character of the author, the extra-marital relations of both sexes in a grizzly and moralizing tone. La Fontaine was meticulously inspired by the parts of the literature of Boccaccio's Decameron and Ariosta in rewriting these tales. After the last publication Of Tales and News in Verse the work is seized and then banned in 1675 by La Reynie considered too provocative. The work of La Fontaine is opposed by its content to the conveniences of the time. In this the author's text could be considered libertine. The characters represent different social bodies and are the subject of taunts and caricatures. Here the study describes, for example, how the texts present scandalous subjects in a hidden way. The opposition between the role, the status, the social condition and the desire of the desire of each character of the tales are presented in the characters both male and female. Our analysis explores the representation of female characters and their relationship to adultery through the eyes of male characters and that of the author. The study is based on historical research and takes into account the hierarchical system of the characters and the social status of the woman in the role of wife. The satirical style of La Fontaine is characterized by the desire to criticize the social mores of a specific period of history, that of the seventeenth century. The analysis studies two aspects: that of the sexual transgression of the woman and that of the objectification look on her. The study examines whether this transgression can be correlated with a societal debate over the definition of marriage at the time.

Full textTalking about extraconjugality in French-speaking fiction means looking through works in which the authors deploy, through their writing, the ins and outs of this practice. Indeed, the four authors coming from diverse backgrounds each offer a unique reading of the practice of extraconjugality. This work reveals all the facets of extraconjugality, good and bad, which contributes to the stabilization of the family or not. On the one hand, we have couples who relied on extramarital life to realize that they were made for each other, and on the other hand, families who have completely broken up. In the second scenario, the breakdown of the family serves as the basis for the creation of a new home. A second problem underlies this work of scientific analysis, it is that of extraconjugality which enslaves. We demonstrate how the character who cheats is kept under the yoke of his partner because he is driven by the fear of the discovery of his deviations

Full textResearches into infanticide and infant abandoning in Ancient Greece have made good progress these last years. And although this topic was dealt wicth in several article, no comprehensive work has been done on the matter since 1966 when professor Germain Louis. R. F. Published his thesis : The abandoning of newborn children and infanticide in Ancient Antiquity. History of the private laws in Antiquity. Opinions still diverge about the importance of the phenomenon and its consequences both on the family and the abandonned newborn child’s fate. At the same time, studies about the family unit and especially women and children as well as historical demograph have brought new elements that allow us to rethink the question of the motherhood and its possible rejection. In the present work my prupose was to compare several sources of information : myths, comedy, laws, iconography, demography, medicine, ethnological comparisons where the newborn child is mentionned. In this way, I tried to understand why greek men and therefore greek women abandonned or killed infants in spite of high infant and mother mortalities and a desire for descendants. Then, I studied the methods they used, the probable fate of these rejected infants and how the parents and the city lived all this

Full textThe present research aims to introduce a collection of Persian traditional narratives, either translated from Indian sources, or written and composed directly into Persian language in the sub-continent. Our focus has been on prose narratives which hold multiple specificities borrowed from Indian tradition and culture, and are enriched by fabulous and imaginary narrative elements. Such specificities appear in diverse aspects : the frame structure of the stories, the leading themes and the typical Indian characters. These stories are presented in detail by providing information about their authors / translators, date and place of composition, themes, original sources, available manuscripts and other references. The current research is also an endeavor to practice and develop symbolic perception in classical stories. Touti-Nâme, chosen as our target text, demonstrates social life, conjugal relationships and power-struggle in both individual and social contexts. The dominant themes of women’s guiles and tricks, love and law conflict, dream and laughter have been examined through mythical and symbolic approaches. Women characters and birds such as parrots have gone through profound studies due to their predominant roles within the tales. I have also tried to study psychological aspects of story characters and their role in the events by means of the Jungian psychoanalytical approach. Concrete examples of gender authority and power-games in traditional patriarchal societies have been given in Touti-Nâme

Full textCompared to the reports written by ethnologists on traditional societies, French child living at the beginning of XXlst century is educated in a cocoon and set aside from adults' world. A survey on childhood fantasy worlds (Disney, Pokemons, Harry Potter) combined with the analysis of 3 field studies (child at school, child in public spaces, child at home) deliver a fair approach of this question. Analysed through the concept of "social distance", developed on purpose, the surveys and studied fields reveal that child is not separated from real world but protected and kept at large distance by a dynamic link. The formative way powered by a child to prepare himself to enter society and learn social behaviours and rituals create distance relationship between the child and the world. The "child of distance" is also the "child of love" who experiences the strength of love in family ; he is the "connected child" that knows how to build a discontinue relationship with the external world and the others. He is also a "creative person", creating himself and the future world. A child does not enter adult world, h becomes an adult while becoming himself

Full textThe dorsal vagal complex (DVC) is a cerebral integrative center for autonomic functions, including the satiety reflex. The DVC of adult rat has been established by my host laboratory as a novel site of adult neurogenesis endowed with neural stem cells. I characterized in vitro a novel action of the anorexigenic hormone leptin on neural stem cells of adult rat DVC and subventricular zone (SVZ). Leptin inhibits the growth of neurospheres from DVC and SVZ, wherein I have shown ObR receptor expression by RT-PCR. This antiproliferative leptin action, as analyzed in SVZ neurospheres, involves apoptosis triggering via ERK1/2 pathway activation and cyclin D1 induction, the causal role of which I have shown using a RNAi approach. In the context of a preclinical research application aiming at improving post-injury repair of peripheral nerve, I realised the first characterization of neural stem cells from adult Pig SVZ by neurosphere culture and RT-PCR of phenotype markers. This study opens new cues for Autonomic physiology and neural stem cell biology

Full textThe first part of the thesis (volume I) sets out to expound a methodological approach to the use of the Rorschach in the diagnosis of adult diseases, with two objectives. Firstly, it aims at a pluridimentional analysis of the contribution of the Rorschach to the exploration of the human psychic functioning. Secondly, it attempts to establish the links between the theoretical model provided by psychoanalysis and its possible applications in the field of projective tests. Therefore the framework of the projective situation is defined and the analysis of both manifest content and latent content of the material is specified. Moreover, the study of the Rorschach factors is explained in terms of psychic behaviors, an analysis of the characteristics of the individual functioning in a dynamic perspective is thus made possible. The second part of the thesis (volume 2) tests the analysis and interpretation approach by applying it to psychopathology and particularly to the three main areas of neurosis, pathology of narcissism and psychosis. The research brings out the fundamental constructions which characterize these mental organizations through the Rorschach : in the area of neurosis, the common features of the neurotic systems are examined through the analysis of the intra-psychic conflict and its rendering in terms of the Rorschach ; in the area of narcissism, particular signs (overinvestment in one’s barriers, refusal of the inner source of the pulsion, specular representations of the relations, white anguish) are brought out and interpreted in the light of recent psychoanalytic works; in the area of psychosis, trouble with the process of thought is studied thoroughly, particularly in relation to the representation of the body and the early relations, marked by discontinuity and attacks against the links. The three corresponding chapters are illustrated with studies of specific cases through a joint analysis in terms of the Rorschach and T. A. T
