Why doesn't one form of platform governance emerge as superior? Background. In conditions of modern and forecasted natural and man-made emergencies, mobile sensor networks (MSNs) with telecommunication aerial platforms (TAPs) for effective functioning need to have an energy reserve almost an order of magnitude larger than the current energy reserve. Moreover, existing networks of this type have an unacceptably high delay for information transmission, a low speed of its transmission from node to endpoint, and require the use of an extremely large number of telecommunication aerial platforms to maintain continuous connectivity. Abstract:
This paper points to the important role that the elasticity of aggregate capital supply with respect to the net rate of return to capital plays for the efficiency of policymaking in a decentralized economy with mobile capital and spillovers among jurisdictions. In accordance with previous studies, we show that under the assumption of a fixed capital supply (zero capital supply elasticity) the decentralized policy choice is optimal. If the capital supply elasticity is strictly positive, however, capital tax rates are inefficiently low in the decentralized equilibrium. (JEL E22, E61, H25, H77)

We analyze models with interjurisdictional spillovers among heterogeneous jurisdictions, such as CO2 emissions that affect the global environment. Each jurisdiction's emissions depend upon the local stock of capital, which is inter-jurisdictionally mobile and subject to local taxation. In important cases, decentralized policymaking leads to efficient resource allocation, even in the complete absence of corrective interventions by higher-level governments or coordination of policy through Coasian bargaining. We study the mobile phone-based money transfer system in Kenya. Based on aggregate data, we estimate that the velocity with which units of e-money are transferred among users is approximately four times per month, and that the average number of transfers undergone by a unit of e-money between its creation and destruction is approximately one. Most M-Pesa transactions are made by frequent users. Examination of data on withdrawals shows a high frequency of small withdrawals and no response to “notches” in the price schedule, indicating that many users seem to have high implicit discount rates.

Using unique data from the iPhone application ecosystem, we examine how the development of 'killer apps' (apps appearing in the top grossing rank) varies by market and app characteristics. We find that previous app experience and no updating increase the likelihood of becoming a killer game app, while more updates increase the likelihood of becoming a non-game killer app. Development opportunities, level of competition, and demand preferences are possible drivers of the opposing innovation

This reduces firm costs and increases firm profitability. There is suggestive evidence that some firms expand. The US was more mobile than Britain through 1900, so in the experience of those who created the US welfare state in the 1930s, the US had indeed been “exceptional.” The US mobility lead over Britain was erased by the 1950s, as US mobility fell from its ninet
