Abstract:
Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury has been a major cause of missed game time among Australian Football League (AFL) players. Return to play after ACL reconstruction is not always achieved, even among elite athletes. The rate of subsequent ACL injury in the AFL from 1990 to 2000 was high as compared with that of other elite sports. Purpose: To determine the rates of return to play and subsequent ACL injury after ACL reconstruction among AFL players from 1999 to 2013 and to explore factors associated with differing rates of return to play and subsequent ACL injury. Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: A total of 158 AFL players who underwent ACL reconstruction were identified from a prospectively maintained registry of AFL player injuries. Further data were gathered from official playing statistics, surgical records, and structured phone interviews. Results: The rate of return to play after an initial ACL injury was 77% (121 of 158 players). Greater preinjury playing experience and earlier selection in the AFL draft were associated with higher rates of return to play. The rate of subsequent ACL injury to either knee was 30% (48 of 158 players) and was especially high among players aged <21 years (23 of 46 players, 50%). After subsequent ACL injury, 34 of 48 players (71%) returned to play. In primary ACL reconstruction, the use of Ligament Augmentation and Reconstruction System grafts resulted in a faster return to play ( P = .001) but had a higher risk of subsequent revision reconstruction (risk ratio = 2.8, P = .048). Family history of ACL injury was associated with an increased risk of subsequent contralateral ACL injury (risk ratio = 3.8, P = .002). Conclusion: Most AFL players who underwent ACL reconstruction returned to play at least 1 AFL match. The high rate of subsequent ACL injury among AFL players demonstrates the highly demanding nature of Australian football, particularly at the elite level. The risk factors for subsequent ACL injury should be considered carefully when treatment and rehabilitation decisions are made for these high-demand athletes.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to audit the efforts made around the support of indigenous players within the Australian Football League (AFL). Design/methodology/approach Content analysis of the publicly available information on websites of organizations associated with the AFL was undertaken to identify the extent of programs and policies around indigenous representation, inclusion, and development. Findings The AFL, as an organization, has a high percentage of indigenous players (employees) in comparison to the wider Australian workforce representation. Largely, indigenous representation within the AFL is merit based, prioritized on an individual’s ability to play football at an elite level. The website audit identified a number of inconsistencies in the public personas portrayed by the AFL and organizations aligned to it such as the AFL Players Association and clubs. The findings raise a number of questions for future research. Research limitations/implications The main limitation is that the website audit represents a very small insight into the current situation and does not provide a depth of analysis into the circumstances around indigenous inclusion within the AFL. The audit also is very focused on one sporting organization which may or may not be representative of the sport industry. Originality/value The research introduces a number of questions for future discovery.

Abstract:
Abstract In elite Australian football (AF) many studies have investigated individual player performance using a variety of outcomes (e.g. team selection, game running, game rating etc.), however, none have attempted to predict a player’s performance using combinations of pre-game factors. Therefore, our aim was to investigate the ability of commonly reported individual player and team characteristics to predict individual Australian Football League (AFL) player performance, as measured through the official AFL player rating (AFLPR) (Champion Data). A total of 158 variables were derived for players (n = 64) from one AFL team using data collected during the 2014-2019 AFL seasons. Various machine learning models were trained (cross-validation) on the 2014-2018 seasons, with the 2019 season used as an independent test set. Model performance, assessed using root mean square error (RMSE), varied (4.69-5.03 test set RMSE) but was generally poor when compared to a singular variable prediction (AFLPR pre-game rating: 4.72 test set RMSE). Variation in model performance (range RMSE: 0.14 excusing worst model) was low, indicating different approaches produced similar results, however, glmnet models were marginally superior (4.69 RMSE test set). This research highlights the limited utility of currently collected pre-game variables to predict week-to-week game performance more accurately than simple singular variable baseline models.

Abstract:
Purpose:To examine the response or pre- and postmatch salivary immunoglobulin A concentration ([s-IgA]) to Australian Football League (AFL) match play and investigate the acute and cumulative influence of player workload and postmatch [s-IgA] after repeated participation in AFL match play. Methods:Eleven elite AFL athletes (21.8 ± 2.4 y, 186.9 ± 7.9 cm, 87.4 ± 7.5 kg) were monitored throughout 3 matches during the preseason that were separated by 7 d. Saliva samples were collected across each AFL match at 24 h and 1 h prematch and 1, 12, 36, and 60 h postmatch to determine [s-IgA]. Global positioning systems (GPS) with integrated triaxial accelerometers were used to determine total player workload during match play. Hypothesis testing was conducted for time-dependent changes in [s-IgA] and player load using a repeated-measures ANOVA.Results:Player load during match 3 (1266 ± 124.6 AU) was significantly (P < .01) greater than in match 1 (1096 ± 115.1 AU) and match 2 (1082 ± 90.4 AU). Across match 3, [s-IgA] was significantly (P < .01) suppressed at 2 postmatch measures (12 and 36 h) compared with prematch measures (24 and 1 h), which coincided with significantly (P < .01) elevated player load. Conclusion:The findings indicate that an increase in player load during AFL preseason match play resulted in compromised postmatch mucosal immunological function. Longitudinal assessment of AFL-match player load and mucosal immunological function across the first 60 h of recovery may augment monitoring and preparedness strategies for athletes.

Abstract:
Background: There is little evidence regarding the mechanisms of pectoralis major (PM) injury and player outcomes in Australian Football League (AFL) players. Purposes/Hypothesis: The study aims were to investigate (1) the mechanisms of PM muscle injury in elite AFL players via video analysis and (2) the player profile, method of management, and clinical outcomes of the PM injuries sustained. We hypothesized that the majority of PM tears would occur in outer-range PM positions (hyperextension of the glenohumeral joint). Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: We analyzed video of the precipitating event for traumatic PM injuries during AFL competition or training over a 20-year period (2002-2021). The footage was analyzed by 4 experienced assessors, and the following were evaluated: mechanism of injury, injury variables (arm position, initial contact point, visual awareness, and use of taping), player characteristics (age at the time of injury, hand dominance, and history of injury), injury profile (location and size of tear), method of management (operative vs nonoperative), patient outcomes (time to return to full senior training/match play), and complication rates. Results: The mean ± standard deviation age of the players was 26.5 ± 3.1 years (range, 21-32 years). Overall, 22 PM injuries were identified in the AFL injury database for a rate of 1.1 per year; 16 of these injuries had accompanying video footage. We identified 3 mechanisms for PM injury: horizontal hyperextension (62.5%), hyperflexion-abduction (25.0%), and horizontal adduction (sustained tackling; 12.5%). The most common site of the tear was the insertion point of the sternocostal head (91.0%). Twenty players (91.0%) required surgical repair, with 75% undergoing surgery within 1 week (range, 0-26 weeks). The mean return to competition for the surgical repair group was 11.1 weeks (range, 8-15 weeks). The rerupture rate was 5.0% (1 repair; <4 weeks postoperatively in 2004). Conclusion: PM tears in elite male AFL players were due to 1 of 3 distinct mechanisms: horizontal hyperextension, hyperflexion-abduction, and horizontal adduction (sustained tackling). Players returned to play on average 11 weeks after injury. Knowledge regarding mechanisms of injury, player profile, and return-to-sport timelines is important for appropriate medical management and provides potential areas to target for prevention of PM injuries.

Abstract:
Purpose: To develop position-specific career performance trajectories and determine the age of peak performance of professional Australian Football players. Methods: Match performance data (Australian Football League [AFL] Player Rank) were collected for Australian Football players drafted via the AFL National Draft between 1999 and 2015 (N = 207). Players were subdivided into playing positions: forwards (n = 60; age 23 [3] y), defenders (n = 71; age 24 [4] y), midfielders (n = 58; age 24 [4] y), and ruckmen (n = 18; age 24 [3] y). Linear mixed models were fitted to the data to estimate individual career trajectories. Results: Forwards, midfielders, and defenders experienced peak match performance earlier than ruckmen (24–25 vs 27 y). Midfielders demonstrated the greatest between-subjects variability (intercept 0.580, age 0.0286) in comparison with ruckmen, who demonstrated the least variability (intercept 0.112, age 0.005) in AFL Player Rank throughout their careers. Age had the greatest influence on the career trajectory of midfielders (β [SE] = 0.226 [0.025], T = 9.10, P < .01) and the least effect on ruckmen (β [SE] = 0.114 [0.049], T = 2.30, P = .02). Conclusions: Professional Australian Football players peak in match performance between 24 and 27 years of age with age, having the greatest influence on the match performance of midfielders and the least on ruckmen.

Abstract:
Purpose:To compare the agility demands of 4 small-sided games (SSGs) and evaluate the variability in demands for elite Australian Football (AF).Methods:Fourteen male elite Australian Football League (AFL) players (mean ± SD; 21.7 ± 3.1 y, 189.6 ± 9.0 cm, 88.7 ± 10.0 kg, 39.4 ± 57.1 games) completed 4 SSGs of 3 × 45-s bouts each with modified designs. Video notational analysis, GPS at 5 Hz, and triaxial accelerometer data expressed the external player loads within games. Three comparisons were made using a paired t test (P < .05), and magnitudes of differences were reported with effect size (ES) statistics. Results:Reduced area per player (increased density) produced a small increase in total agility maneuvers (SSG1, 7.2 ± 1.3; SSG2, 8.8 ± 4.1), while a large 2D player load was accumulated (P < .05, ES = 1.22). A reduction in players produced a moderate (ES = 0.60) total number of agility maneuvers (SSG 3, 11.3 ± 6.1; SSG 2, 8.3 ± 3.6); however, a greater variability was found. The implementation of a 2-handed-tag rule resulted in a somewhat trivial decline (P > .05, ES = 0.16) in agility events compared with normal AFL tackling rules (SSG 2, 8.3 ± 3.6; SSG 4, 7.8 ± 2.6).Conclusions:SSG characteristics can influence agility-training demand, which can vary considerably for individuals. Coaches should carefully consider SSG design to maximize the potential to develop agility for all players.

Abstract:
ObjectivesTo determine whether specific injury measures were associated with team performance in the Australian Football League (AFL).Methods15 289 injuries caused players from 18 teams to miss 51 331 matches between 1997 and 2016. Data were aggregated to the team level. We analysed the associations among injury measures and team performance (reaching finals/playoffs and specific ladder/table position). Injury measures per team included: injury incidence, injury severity, injury burden, player match availability and percentage of the full player roster injured. We also weighted injury measures by five measures of player value.ResultsAFL teams’ injury burden and player match availability were associated with final table position (r2=0.03, p<0.05). Player value weighted injury burden was different between finalists and non-finalists (mean difference=−8, p<0.001) and explained 12% of the variation in the table position of teams (p<0.001). For a team, nine missed matches due to injury (burden weighted by a best and fairest player rating system) was associated with one lower table position. Player match availability weighted by player value was higher for finalists than non-finalists (mean difference=1.7, p<0.01) and explained 7% of the variation in the table position of teams (p<0.001).Discussion and potential implicationsThe impact of injury (burden weighted by best and fairest) explained up to 12% of the variation in final table position—this is particularly relevant to making/not making playoffs as well as home ground/travel advantages for those teams that make the one-game format of AFL playoffs (not home-away or best of seven format).

Abstract:
With the increasing professionalisation of the Australian Football League (AFL), greater demands are being placed upon AFL players with respect to their technical, tactical, and physiological training, in addition to increased requirements to promote their club’s brand via community appearances. Modern AFL players have an additional challenge as their careers will be typically limited to, at best, a decade or slightly more at the elite level. This means that they are also encouraged to develop an alternative career for when their playing days are over. Thus, given these demands, there is substantial challenge for the modern footballer in achieving a sense of balance between work and non-work life whilst also preparing for their next career. Although there is a strong ethical argument to support professional athletes’ off-field activities and development away from the field, there is also a growing argument from some coaches and athletes that participating in these activities actually carries some benefit for the way athletes perform in their sport. Such an argument is consistent with contemporary human resource and management literature where in demanding professions, the support of employee work-life balance and holistic development has been shown to be associated with employee engagement and productivity. Within the AFL however there has been mixed views concerning the value of supporting player off-field activities and preparations for life after football. This is understandable given that there is often an underlying assumption in elite sport that to be successful you must ‘out work’ those you are competing with. The present thesis sought to investigate the potential value that participation in off-field activities associated with their lives away from football (i.e., their social, recreational, and career development activities) may have with respect to AFL players’ experience of engagement in their roles as footballers.

Abstract:
Moving away from home to embark on a career at an elite level involves the individual within a broader social ecology where a range of factors influence the dynamic transition. In 2000, Indigenous and non-Indigenous past and present AFL footballers and AFL administrative staff suggested that relocation was one of the issues faced by Indigenous AFL footballers. The focus of the current study was to learn about relocation and settlement experiences from the perspectives of 10 Indigenous Australian AFL footballers, examining the social, cultural, organisational, and psychological challenges. Five participants were drafted to the AFL within 12 months, and five participants were drafted to the AFL prior to 2002. Participants were listed players from seven Victorian AFL clubs. Interviews were also conducted with eight representatives (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) from organisations associated with the AFL. Players were asked questions about their own relocation and settlement experiences. Secondary informants were asked questions about their involvement with Indigenous players relocating and their perception of the relocation process for Indigenous players in the AFL. Interviews were semi-structured and conversational in style and analysed for unique and recurring themes using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Each of the stories reflected subtle differences experienced during relocation, highlighting the importance and value of using a phenomenological and qualitative framework to understand each player’s perspective and experiences of relocation. The findings demonstrated both facilitative and barrier factors influencing the relocation, settlement, and adaptation experiences. These included opportunity and social mobility, social support and kindredness, culture shock, and racism and homogeneity. Each player’s story about relocation and subsequent settlement and adaptation, highlighted the importance of family, connection, and kindredness as an overarching theme. The findings emphasise the need for receiving environments, in this case the AFL, to treat every player on an individual basis rather than grouping them into a collective. It is essential that a player is understood in relation to his socio-cultural context. The AFL has implemented significant changes to welcome cultural diversity, but as a mainstream organisation, it has been developed within mainstream values. Just as society in general needs to acknowledge Australian history and the overall discrepancies between Indigenous and non-Indigenous opportunities and living standards, the AFL has to continue to de-institutionalise stereotypes and increase the cultural awareness of all groups to continue being a forerunner of progressive race relations. The current study represents an important initial step in the identification and description of the relocation processes from the vantage point of Indigenous footballers.

Abstract:
Knee injuries are extremely prevalent in high pivoting sports such as soccer, with non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries being the most common. Female athletes are up to eight times more likely to experience ACL injuries compared to males. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possible reasons why females are so much more likely to experience ACL injuries and identify methods which can be used to prevent such injuries. A review of textbooks and articles regarding the anatomy and biomechanics of the knee was conducted followed by a review of articles on the topic of anatomical, biomechanical, neuromuscular, and hormonal differences between males and females. This investigation identified multiple risk factors under each category which place females at an increased risk of ACL tear. A later review of the diagnosis and treatment showed that ACL injuries are the most well understood of the major ligament tears which occur in the knee. Treatment options include non-operative methods and surgical methods, depending on the patient and extent of the injury. Finally, a review of the literature regarding prevention programs demonstrated that it is possible to decrease the risk of ACL injury in females through neuromuscular and biomechanical training.

Abstract:
Thesis (MScEng)--Stellenbosch University, 2011.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: A new type of wideband lters, with tunability in both the centre frequency and bandwidth, is presented in this thesis. These lters are based on perturbed ring-resonators in cascade, while varactor diodes are used for electronic tuning. The Karoo Array Telescope (KAT-7) requires a front-end lter that has the ability for ne-tuning the response after fabrication, in order to obtain the designed ltering response. Not only are tune-all characteristics required, but also wide bandwidth, at passband, high selectivity and implementation in microstrip technology. In this thesis an extensive investigation of both tunable and wideband lters is done, in order to nd a possible solution for the KAT-7 speci cations. Following this investigation, it is concluded that no suitable design approach for tune-all wideband lters, implemented in microstrip, exists in current literature. Therefore, this thesis proposes a new type of lter along with the development of a complete design procedure. Two lters are designed with this procedure to achieve the required passband from 1.2 to 1.95 GHz (i.e. a fractional bandwidth of 49%). In the rst lter design, with a network consisting of 4 cascaded ltering-sections, the centre frequency is 5% tunable and the bandwidth 17.5%. With the second lter consisting of 6 cascaded ltering-sections, higher selectivity is achieved but with lower return loss. Here the centre frequency is 8.5% tunable and the bandwidth 18.8%. The theoretical results are validated with the fabrication of both lters. This design is very unique in that it achieves wide bandwidth, is realisable in microstrip and most importantly is tunable in both the centre frequency and bandwidth. An advantage of this design procedure is that full wave simulations are minimal, due to the complete circuit models used for optimisation.

Abstract:
With the evolution of the human needs in the last years, data transmission and storage for video and media applications have grown exponentially, demanding the search of new solutions for optimizing the bandwidth. In order to have faster image processing, compression methods are fundamental tools to decrease the redundant data. Among several transformation techniques for compression, wavelet-based transforms are the trendiest ones because of its simplicity and fast computation. Concerning this approach and given the advantages, all-optical image processing is here performed based on Haar Transform. Since this wavelet transform has shown its benefits when compared to other methods, its implementation in optical guided structures is mandatory. In this context, Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) is introduced since it can include different components into a single optical chip. Between the extensive list of building blocks (BBs) available for this photonic integration, the Multimode Interference (MMI) structure is presented as a possible solution to perform the optical Haar wavelet transform. The development of such a structure was done likewise its implementation into a PIC, performing the first order Haar. Using the BBs from a specific foundry, a layout of the circuit from an adapted Haar Transform solution was also made.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this chapter, we reflect on the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) as a pedagogical and educational instrument and the challenges that arise to ensure transparency and fairness to staff and students . We describe a thought experiment: ‘simulation of AI in education as a massively multiplayer social online game’ (AIEd-MMOG). Here, all actors (humans, institutions, AI agents and algorithms) are required to conform to the definition of a player. Models of player behaviour that ‘understand’ the game space provide an application programming interface for typical algorithms, e.g. deep learning neural nets or reinforcement learning agents, to interact with humans and the game space. The definition of ‘player’ is a role designed to maximise protection and benefit for human players during interaction with AI. The concept of benefit maximisation is formally defined as a Rawlsian justice game, played within the AIEd-MMOG to facilitate transparency and trust of the algorithms involved, without requiring algorithm-specific technical solutions to, e.g. ‘peek inside the black box’. Our thought experiment for an AIEd-MMOG simulation suggests solutions for the well-known challenges of explainable AI and distributive justice.

Abstract:
Despite the fact that objectively assessing the impact of the individual actions performed by soccer players during games is a crucial task, most traditional metrics have substantial shortcomings. First, many metrics only consider rare actions like shots and goals which account for less than 2% of all on-the-ball actions. Second, they fail to account for the context in which the actions occurred. This work summarizes several important contributions. First, we describe a language for representing individual player actions on the pitch. This language unifies several existing formats which greatly simplifies automated analysis and this language is becoming widely used in the soccer analytics community. Second, we describe our framework for valuing any type of player action based on its impact on the game outcome while accounting for the context in which the action happened. This framework enables giving a broad overview of a player's performance, including quantifying a player's total offensive and defensive contributions to their team. Third, we provide illustrative use cases that highlight the working and benefits of our framework.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Bubble soccer is a recreational soccer game that has gained huge popularity in recent years. In this modified soccer game, the players are strapped inside the hollow region of a “donut” shaped inflatable membrane, in a fashion similar to how a backpack is worn. Due to the large sizes of bubble membrane, collision among players is a major component of bubble soccer games, which often results in the players falling over and hitting the ground at high impact speed. To ensure that the player’s head doesn’t come in contact with the ground, Bubble ball Business Association (BBA) [3] recommends a minimum clearance of 20.3 cm between the player’s head and the top surface of the bubble membrane. This criteria, however, depends on the structural rigidity of the bubble ball, which is a function of its inflation pressure. This paper presents the results from a series of Finite Element studies, which sought to investigate the dynamic behavior of both bubble ball and soccer players in the aftermath of a vertical impact (with the player’s head and bubble ball both being upside-down), at gauge inflation pressures ranging from 3.45 kPa to 17.25 kPa, with the BBA specified head clearance. Even though vertical impacts of such nature are extremely unlikely in bubble soccer, it was preferred over oblique ground impacts as vertical impacts is capable of causing more sever impacts. Additionally, the results from the vertical studies can also serve as recommendations for side impacts with vertical walls and for head-on collisions among players. In all simulations, a medium sized bubble ball was considered with a player mass of 100 kg (25% more than BBA specification). The results showed that the player’s head, at a minimum inflation pressure of 10.35 kPa, would preserve 88% of the initial 20.3 cm clearance value, in the aftermath of impact. At pressures lower than this minimum value, it was observed that the ball didn’t inflate enough, and thus, wasn’t structurally rigid, to exert sufficient lateral force on the player’s body. As a consequence, the frictional force at the player-ball interface in the direction opposite to the impact was also low, which resulted in the player’s head hitting the ground. Since 10.35 kPa is a relatively high inflation pressure, it can cause significant damage of the internal organs of the player during impact, as well as can cause discomfort during the game. This may trigger the players to reduce the inflation pressure, which as these studies show, has dangerous consequences. Thus, further studies were conducted by increasing the initial clearance of the head to the ball’s top surface from 20.3 cm to 25.4 cm and 30.5 cm, which showed that the ball would prevent the head from hitting the ground at inflation pressures of 6.9 kPa and 1.725 kPa respectively. Thus, if the position of the strap within the ball is adjusted allowing for higher head clearance, lower inflation pressures are sufficient to prevent head injuries, which will improve the overall safety associated with bubble soccer. To improve current studies, more sophisticated human body models must be integrated in the simulations, which will allow the analysis of damages to the internal organs. Additionally, physical experiment must be conducted to validate current computational results.

Abstract:
Repeated game has long been the touchstone model for agents’ long-run relationships. Previous results suggest that it is particularly difficult for a repeated game player to exert an autocratic control on the payoffs since they are jointly determined by all participants. This work discovers that the scale of a player’s capability to unilaterally influence the payoffs may have been much underestimated. Under the conventional iterated prisoner’s dilemma, we develop a general framework for controlling the feasible region where the players’ payoff pairs lie. A control strategy player is able to confine the payoff pairs in her objective region, as long as this region has feasible linear boundaries. With this framework, many well-known existing strategies can be categorized and various new strategies with nice properties can be further identified. We show that the control strategies perform well either in a tournament or against a human-like opponent.

Full text
Abstract:
In polymatrix coordination games, each player x is a node of a graph and must select an action in her strategy set. Nodes are playing separate bimatrix games with their neighbors in the graph. Namely, the utility of x is given by the preference she has for her action plus, for each neighbor y, a payoff which strictly depends on the mutual actions played by x and y. We propose the new class of distance polymatrix coordination games, properly generalizing polymatrix coordination games, in which the overall utility of player x further depends on the payoffs arising by mutual actions of players v,z that are the endpoints of edges at any distance h<d from x, for a fixed threshold value d≤n. In particular, the overall utility of player x is the sum of all the above payoffs, where each payoff is proportionally discounted by a factor depending on the distance h of the corresponding edge. Under the above framework, which is a natural generalization that is well-suited for capturing positive community interactions, we study the social inefficiency of equilibria resorting to standard measures of Price of Anarchy and Price of Stability. Namely, we provide suitable upper and lower bounds for the aforementioned quantities, both for bounded-degree and general graphs.

Abstract:
Since there can be no sport without players, for efficient functioning of sport system, based upon the fundamental values of sport and sporting spirit, it is of essential importance to regulate relationship between the players and their spors organization (clubs) appropriately. New Law on Sport from 2016. has replaced previous Act from 2011 and it has regulated the relationship between the players and sport organizations in significantly different way comparing to previous law. All players can be divided into amateur and professional players. An amateur player need not to be in contractual relation with his/her club, but it is possible to conclude two contracts: scholarship contract for underage player to improve sport performance and contract on performance of sporting activity. For the status of an amateur player, it is not important if he/she receives compensation for sport performance, noting that going in for sporting activity according to the contract on performance of sporting activity is considered as work outside the employement in accordance to law. If a player performes sporting activity in the form of basic employment, he/she has the status of professional player, and the relationship between him/her and the sport club is regulated by employment contract. In his paper, the author analyzes the provisions of Law on Sport from 2016. about the status of players and contract they enter into with their clubs. This work indicates the problems that exist in the practice.

Abstract:
Abstract At the surface of the tin-plated brass substrate placed at 50°C, the tin whiskers grew evidently within a short time, due to the formation of zinc oxide on the surface and alloying between plated tin and brass substrate as supposed. While at the surface of the brass substrate plated with tin on nickel, there was no trace of the tin whisker at all. Nickel greatly represses the diffusion of base metal materials into the tin layer. Nickel and tin plated monolithic chip capacitors placed at the same condition for 18 years were also observed and the tin whisker growth phenomenon has never taken place either. As a result, the tin plated film on the nickel over silver thick film does not provide the tin whisker growth. Nickel underplating plays an important role in tin plated capacitors for not only the solder leaching but also the tin whisker growth problems.
