O depósito João Neri localiza-se no sul do estado de São Paulo, no Município de Guapiara. Encontra-se numa sequência de rochas metavulcano-sedimentares de direção nordeste denominada de Formação Água Clara do Grupo Setuva, a qual está inserida no domínio geotectônico da Faixa de Dobramento Apiaí. A deposição dos sedimentos e o episódio vulcânico associado ocorrera, provavelmente, entre 1,8 e 1,5 b.a..
