Abstract:
Abstract: The article describes functional features of the syntactic module of computer-based Ukrainian grammar AGAT. This is a linguistic type of computer-aided syntactic analysis, which provides full information about syntactic units and categories, in particular, predicativity, coordinate and subordinate clauses, the categories of subject and predicate etc. The developed linguistic software provides syntactic analysis of a whole sentence in the form of a dependency tree and indicates the types of syntactic relations and links. The AGAT-syntax task is to identify all varieties of compatibility – predicative, subordinate, and coordinate – of each word in the text. The grammatical characteristics of the phrase directly depend on which part of the language its keyword belongs to. The lexical and grammatical nature of the word determines its compatibility to the other words. Accordingly, phrases can be divided into substantive, adjective, pronouns, numeral, verbal and adverbial. Computer sub-grammars of valencies of the said parts of the language are built by us on a single principle: a lexema is indicated, preposition that participates in government and a case of a substantive word form in the shape of a two-letter code. In theory, according to their composition words combinations (phrases) are divided into simple, complex and combined. Dependency tree is built from two elements – nodes and connections. Nodes are wordforms and connections are relationships between the main element (“master”) and dependent element (“slave”). It enables to describe a configuration, a form, external parameters of a sentence but this is not sufficient to describe a sentence structure. Thus, the syntactic analysis has two levels: the first one attributes to each binary pair a type of syntactic relationships on the level of morphological way of expression of a “master”; the second level attributes to the connection a type of syntactic relationships, which include: subjective, objective, attributive, adverbial, completive and appositive modifying.. In such a way, the cycle of automated syntactic analysis of Ukrainian texts is completed by determining the syntactic word-combination, identifying a type of syntactic link and a type of relationship. It provides full range of characteristics that can be used for systemic study of semantic and syntactic problems. Keywords: automated syntactic analysis, dependency tree, syntactic relations, syntactic links.

Abstract:
l-arginine:glycine amidinotransferase (AGAT) and its metabolites homoarginine (hArg) and creatine have been linked to stroke pathology in both human and mouse studies. However, a comprehensive understanding of the underlying molecular mechanism is lacking. To investigate transcriptional changes in cerebral AGAT metabolism, we applied a transcriptome analysis in brains of wild-type (WT) mice compared to untreated AGAT-deficient (AGAT−/−) mice and AGAT−/− mice with creatine or hArg supplementation. We identified significantly regulated genes between AGAT−/− and WT mice in two independent cohorts of mice which can be linked to amino acid metabolism (Ivd, Lcmt2), creatine metabolism (Slc6a8), cerebral myelination (Bcas1) and neuronal excitability (Kcnip3). While Ivd and Kcnip3 showed regulation by hArg supplementation, Bcas1 and Slc6a8 were creatine dependent. Additional regulated genes such as Pla2g4e and Exd1 need further evaluation of their influence on cerebral function. Experimental stroke models showed a significant regulation of Bcas1 and Slc6a8. Together, these results reveal that AGAT deficiency, hArg and creatine regulate gene expression in the brain, which may be critical in stroke pathology.

Abstract:
The regularities in forming chemical composition of mine and surface waters in the Eastern Donbass were studied using the techniques of statistical estimation of component concentration distributions, the methods of assessing environment pollution, and the digital computer technology on multidimensional classification observations AGAT-2. The article shows that the mine water in the Eastern Donbass is a powerful source of polluting environment, causing serious ecological damage to the territory. Coal mine water contain a lot of dissolved substances up to 413 thousand t/year, among which macro components and various metals forming a significant part. The mean concentrations of most components in mine water hundreds times exceed the maximum allowable concentrations (MACs), and they exceed the maximum concentrations in thousands times. The surface water quality was analyzed in the region proceeding from the results of testing small rivers and streams. Using classification technologies, five genetic variants of surface waters were identified by the macrocomponents. The first option characterizes the initial phase of surface water formation outside the pollution impact. Other options reflect the growing degree of water pollution in the region. The distribution of genetic water variants was shown throughout the region. The calculation of surface water pollution by 20 components revealed the cumulative indicator of pollution to be equal to 108 corresponding to the emergency crisis category. About 65% components exceed MAC. Surface water classes uniform in the content of 15 metals were distinguished using the digital computer technology AGAT-2. A cumulative indicator of pollution varies from 27 to 65, which corresponds to a tense and emergency crisis situations. Therefore, mine waters pollute significantly the surface waters in the Eastern Donbass. Conclusion is made about the need for rehabilitation measures in order to improve the quality of surface waters in the region.

Abstract:
Creatine is a metabolite important for cellular energy homeostasis as it provides spatio-temporal adenosine triphosphate (ATP) buffering for cells with fluctuating energy demands. Here, we examined whether placental creatine metabolism was altered in cases of early-onset pre-eclampsia (PE), a condition known to cause placental metabolic dysfunction. We studied third trimester human placentae collected between 27–40 weeks’ gestation from women with early-onset PE (n = 20) and gestation-matched normotensive control pregnancies (n = 20). Placental total creatine and creatine precursor guanidinoacetate (GAA) content were measured. mRNA expression of the creatine synthesizing enzymes arginine:glycine aminotransferase (GATM) and guanidinoacetate methyltransferase (GAMT), the creatine transporter (SLC6A8), and the creatine kinases (mitochondrial CKMT1A & cytosolic BBCK) was assessed. Placental protein levels of arginine:glycine aminotransferase (AGAT), GAMT, CKMT1A and BBCK were also determined. Key findings; total creatine content of PE placentae was 38% higher than controls (p < 0.01). mRNA expression of GATM (p < 0.001), GAMT (p < 0.001), SLC6A8 (p = 0.021) and BBCK (p < 0.001) was also elevated in PE placentae. No differences in GAA content, nor protein levels of AGAT, GAMT, BBCK or CKMT1A were observed between cohorts. Advancing gestation and birth weight were associated with a down-regulation in placental GATM mRNA expression, and a reduction in GAA content, in control placentae. These relationships were absent in PE cases. Our results suggest PE placentae may have an ongoing reliance on the creatine kinase circuit for maintenance of cellular energetics with increased total creatine content and transcriptional changes to creatine synthesizing enzymes and the creatine transporter. Understanding the functional consequences of these changes warrants further investigation.

Abstract:
The results of our bioinformatics analysis have found over 91,000 di-, tri-, and tetranucleotide microsatellites in our survey of 25% of the X. tropicalis genome, suggesting there may be over 360,000 within the entire genome. Within the X. tropicalis genome, dinucleotide (78.7%) microsatellites vastly out numbered tri- and tetranucleotide microsatellites. Similarly, AT-rich repeats are overwhelmingly dominant. The four AT-only motifs (AT, AAT, AAAT, and AATT) account for 51,858 out of 91,304 microsatellites found. Individually, AT microsatellites were the most common repeat found, representing over half of all di-, tri-, and tetranucleotide microsatellites. This contrasts with data from other studies, which show that AC is the most frequent microsatellite in vertebrate genomes (Toth et al. 2000). In addition, we have determined the rate of polymorphism for 5,128 non-redundant microsatellites, embedded in unique sequences. Interestingly, this subgroup of microsatellites was determined to have significantly longer repeats than genomic microsatellites as a whole. In addition, microsatellite loci with tandem repeat lengths more than 30 bp exhibited a significantly higher degree of polymorphism than other loci. Pairwise comparisons show that tetranucleotide microsatellites have the highest polymorphic rates. In addition, AAT and ATC showed significant higher polymorphism than other trinucleotide microsatellites, while AGAT and AAAG were significantly more polymorphic than other tetranucleotide microsatellites.

Abstract:
In the light of reports of bias, the present study investigated the hypothesis that administrative educational decisions assisted by Decision Support Systems (DSS) are characterized by different pedagogical and organizational orientation than decisions made without computer assistance. One hundred and ten high school teachers were asked to suggest solutions to problems that arose in two school incidents. After reaching decisions, respondents were asked to rank, in order of importance, the considerations that guided them. The data were processed by DSS software, which calculated the highest-scoring option for each incident. This option was compared with the one chosen by the respondents, taking into account variables of seniority, educational level, specialization, and self-efficacy. DSS-aided decisions promoted greater moderation and enhanced cooperation among interested parties in comparison to decisions made without computer aid. The implications of these findings for future division of decision-making tasks between people and computers is discussed.

Abstract:

The thesis is research, analysis and approach to the graphic work of the Majorcan artist of the 20th century, Pedro Quetglas, known by his pseudonym "Xam". Xam worked in several art fields, such as caricature, drawing, designing and painting posters, woodcut, painting, monotype, serigraphy and calcography engraving. From the sum of his work the thesis is centred in the graphic work produced between 1944, when we can date the first xylography, and his death, 2001, when he finished his last lithography. The task was inserted in a field without immediate tradition on the graphic work in Mallorca, which practically went missing after the important Guasp printing house closed down. It has been possible to document more than 400 blocks and, at the same time, the prints of those which add up to 600 prints on chalcography, xylography, serigraphy and lithography.

Abstract:
Counting of bacterial colonies on agar plates is a routine practice to get a rough estimate of the number of viable cells in a sample. The number of colonies in a culture is predominantly manually counted to calculate the concentration of bacteria in the original broth; however, manual counting can be tedious, time-consuming and imprecise. Automation of colony counting has been of increasing interest for many decades, and these methods have been shown to be more consistent than manual counting. Significant limitations of many algorithms used in automated systems are their inability to recognize overlapping colonies as distinct and to count colonies on the plate boundary. This study proposes an interactive counting system and a fully automated system using image processing which overcomes these problems. The proposed system is capable to reduce the manpower and time required for counting while taking account colonies both around the central area and boundary areas of the dish. These systems are part of an application to count colonies based in a mobile phone camera.

University education is facing new strategical changes that will lead to deep structural changes. Course organization is evolving and the organizational decisions have an economical impact. We propose a method to measure the present value of a pedagogical asset under a return rate. We apply the method to three courses in the Computer Science curricula taught at the Facultat d’Informatica de Barcelona of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona Tech. A large, compulsory, first year course (PRO1), a medium size undergraduate course (ALG) and a small specialized master course (AGT). Our results highlight that the present value gets higher values as a function of the size of the course and it goes in a negative relationship with respect to the level of computer support involved in their teaching.

Abstract:
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a complex process of managing not only design documentation in 3D form but it also includes all the consecutive stages of the design analysis, followed by construction management, and including facility management after the site completion. The success in the collaboration to unite common efforts of architects, constructors and HVAC engineers would make the work of all involved stakeholders more productive because the existing information technologies provide this option already for a long time. The training for effective use of this relatively new and very complex approach from the very beginning of the building lifecycle in the construction industry is even a more complex task. Universities have to join the promotion of BIM ideas not only to the designers and engineers, but to a much wider public than at present. The history of BIM teaching and the approaches used at Riga Technical University (RTU) are outlined in this paper. RTU along with several other universities from Lithuania have joined the EU sponsored Leonardo da Vinci project BIMTRAIN initiated by regional software distributer and developer AGA-CAD which facilitates the BIM implementation through the training.
