Left-turn performance of 100 subjects within three age groups (25–45, 65–74, and 75+ years old) was evaluated under normal driving conditions at four intersections of different left-turn offset configurations. Little is known about the relative importance of different causes of death in driving the evolution of senescence and longevity across species. Here we argue that cause-specific mortality may be shaped by physiological trade-offs between mortality components, challenging the theoretical view that physiologically independent processes should senesce at the same rate, or that interactions between causes of death will make selection blind to the effects of specific causes of death. Using Australian tax and survey data, we exploit discrete eligibility cut-offs to estimate the effect of several business investment tax breaks, including tax credits and instant asset write-offs, implemented over the past 15 years. Policies implemented during the global financial crisis increased investment. Responses are larger for unincorporated businesses, possibly reflecting reduced efficacy of investment stimulus under Australia's dividend imputation system.
