Abstract:

À travers une analyse de la guerre dans la région d’Oromia, cet article examine la construction du régime éthiopien post-insurrectionnel et son usage de la violence. Il observe et détaille les modalités de mise en œuvre de la violence pour l’établissement et la consolidation du régime du Parti de la prospérité, dans l’Oromia et en Éthiopie en général. Au motif qu’il faut « vider de la mer », l’État a eu recours à une violence massive et aveugle contre les insurgés de l’Armée de libération oromo (OLA) et leur soutien populaire. Ancré dans une chronologie politique de l’Éthiopie post-2018, l’article analyse l’évolution de l’usage de la violence par le gouvernement. Il propose une anatomie politique de cette violence en s’intéressant aux principales techniques employées (terre brûlée, massacres arbitraires et brutalisation) et aux agents mobilisés pour sa mise en œuvre (forces armées gouvernementales, forces armées alliées amhara et OLA).

RÉSUMÉDans les études ayant conclu à une dépréciation de la variété endogène, les attitudes linguistiques ont été suscitées à partir de stimuli généraux (p.ex., accent). Dans cet article, nous soulignons les limites de ces travaux, en montrant au travers d'une récente enquête que la réponse à un stimulus général est formulée sur la base d'une partie seulement des variantes lexicales, celles relevant d'un contact de langues et présentant un déficit de prestige. Les résultats de cette recherche mettent parallèlement au jour la légitimité de tout un pan de variantes endogènes (archaïsmes et innovations romandes). Tout en expliquant pourquoi certaines ressources linguistiques sont plus susceptibles que d'autres de servir de fondement à la variété endogène légitime, nous discutons les facteurs contribuant à l'autonomisation du français en Suisse romande.

Néanmoins cette occurrence est à négliger si l’on considère la rareté de son utilisation dans un contexte de matériel législatif. Ce n’est que à l’époque d’Augusti Valentinianus III et de Théodose II qu’il semble que son usage s’est étendu aux constitutions impériales. Nous croyons que ce fait doit être relié au contexte historique général où ces empires se sont développés.

La polysémie constitue un moyen important de lʼéconomie linguistique. Si les langues de spécialité ne disposent pas dʼun terme spécifique, elles trouvent la solution dans le vocabulaire général auquel elles empruntent des mots comprenant de nombreuses acceptions. Lʼune dʼelles sera précisée dʼaprès les besoins du domaine en question. Dans le présent article, nous rendons compte de lʼinterpénétration existant entre le vocabulaire du droit pénal français (issu de Code de procédure pénale et de Vocabulaire juridique), le vocabulaire général et dʼautres vocabulaires de spécialité. Les approches contemporaines de la terminologie qui prennent en considération les dimensions discursive, sociale, cognitive et culturelle permettent dʼaborder le terme avec plus de flexibilité et de ne pas le considérer comme une simple étiquette destinée à classer les connaissances. Les migrations qui sʼeffectuent entre vocabulaire général et vocabulaires de spécialité, connues sous les noms de terminologisation et déterminologisation,sʼaccompagnent des modifications sémantiques. En fonction du contexte et du domaine spécialisé, un mot peut avoir des acceptions différentes. A titre dʼexemple, le mot blanchiment ne renverra pas à la même notion pour un agent qui lutte contre la criminalité financière, un horticulteur, un cuisinier, un photographe ou un dentiste. Nous nous proposons de vérifier à quel point la polysémie externe est un phénomène répandu. Notre objectif est dʼexplorer ces transferts sémantiques, cʼest-à-dire les diverses facettes dʼun terme

Le développement du stockage géologique de déchets permet de s’interroger sur la façon dont le droit français appréhende le sous-sol et ce procédé qui génère des risques et des conflits d’usages à long terme. Le stockage géologique transfert les déchets dans un espace possédant des normes et des enjeux propres. Or, l’encadrement juridique du stockage souterrain de déchets tend à enfermer le sous-sol dans une fonction d’exutoire favorable à la production industrielle. Les règles de droit sur l’accès au sous-sol en sont une illustration : on peut dire qu’il existe une fracture, dans le droit du sous-sol, entre intérêt public et usage industriel. D’un côté, le sous-sol est approprié par l’État au nom de l’intérêt général. De l’autre, cet espace est mis à disposition des exploitants industriels au détriment d’un usage public du sous-sol envisagé plus largement.

Smartphone overuse can lead to a series of physical, mental and social disturbances. This problem is more prevalent among young adults as compared to other demographic groups. Additionally, university students are already undergoing high cognitive loads and stress conditions; therefore, they are more susceptible to smartphone addiction and its derived problems. In this paper, we present a novel approach where a conversational mobile agent uses persuasive messages exploring the reflective mind to raise users’ awareness of their usage and consequently induce reduction behaviors. We conducted a four-week study with 16 university students undergoing stressful conditions—a global lockdown during their semester—and evaluated the impact of the agent on smartphone usage reduction and the perceived usefulness of such an approach. Results show the efficacy of self-tracking in the behavior change process: 81% of the users reduced their usage time, and all of them mentioned that having a conversational agent alerting them about their usage was useful. Before this experiment, only 68% of them considered such an approach could be useful. In conclusion, users deemed it essential to have an engaging conversational agent on their smartphones, in terms of helping them become more aware of usage times.

Le baron de Tott, issu d’une famille hongroise établie en France au XVIII e siècle, fut un officier de hussards employé dans des missions en Orient. Connaissant les langues et usages orientaux, il fut l’un des meilleurs agents de Louis XVI. Après avoir introduit des réformes militaires dans l’armée ottomane durant la guerre russo-turque de 1768-1774, il rejoignit le « parti interventionniste » du gouvernement de Versailles et devint un véritable idéologue du partage et de la colonisation de l’Empire ottoman, en particulier de sa province la plus convoitée : l’Égypte. En 1777, il fut nommé inspecteur général des Échelles du Levant. Cela lui permit d’effectuer une reconnaissance militaire de l’Égypte en vue d’un plan d’occupation ultérieur. Le projet fut déposé dès 1779, mais sa réalisation fut ajournée jusqu’à l’avènement de Napoléon Bonaparte qui s’en inspira pour sa fameuse campagne d’Égypte. Cet article présente l’histoire du projet égyptien du baron de Tott tout en soulignant ses aspects novateurs, comme la participation des savants à cette entreprise et l’intérêt géostratégique de l’Égypte dans la pensée politique française.

La croissance économique dépend fortement de la capacité des systèmes technologiques à s’écarter durablement de la zone des rendements décroissants. Dans le nouveau système technologique fondé beaucoup moins sur les économies d’échelle et la standardisation, les gains de productivité devraient venir au moins en partie de la fertilisation croisée entre les industries et les technologies. C’est pour cette raison que la littérature économique contient beaucoup de nouvelles approches en termes d’ externalités, effets de reports, biens publics, etc. L’interactivité est le concept général qui permet de caractériser ces phénomènes élémentaires. Cet article propose ainsi une typologie générale des formes de l’interaction techno-économique : agent-innovation, agent-agent, innovation-innovation, ainsi qu’une application pour des niveaux d’ agrégation très différents (micro et méso-économique). Il étudie successivement les complémentarités technologiques, les mécanismes de diffusion et les flux interindustriels de technologie. Il spécifie les différents types d’ apprentissage industriel qui se présentent au sein des formes et entre elles et généralise la notion de spill-over.

Abstract Mobile agent technology has become an important approach for the design and development of distributed systems. Currently, there is little research regarding the efficiency of mobile agent-based monitoring of the server resource. Based on the Mobile-C library, a mobile agent-based system called Mobile Agent- Based Server Resource Monitoring System (MABSRMS) is presented. In MABSRMS mobile agents can call low level functions in binary dynamic or static libraries, and thus can monitor server resource conveniently and efficiently. The experiment was conducted in a university computer center with hundreds of computer workstations and 15 server machines. The experiment uses the MABSRMS to detect system resources, such as available hard disk space, CPU usage and main memory usage. The experiment shows that the mobile agent-based monitoring system is a practical way to monitor server resources in large scale distributed computer centers.

Il s’agit ici de la première partie d’une étude visant à situer le pouvoir de persuasion des voces magicae tardo-antiques dans le cadre de référence intellectuel de l’époque impériale romaine. Ce premier article examinera les prémisses logiques de manière plus générale ; le second article replacera dans leur contexte les méthodes employées par les dits voces magicae pour séparer lettres et mots de leur usage général, et l’origine de ces méthodes. En effet, je soutiens ici que les voces ne sont pas magicae, mais reflètent la tentative de dissocier les lettres et les mots de leur usage communicationnel habituel dans le but de modifier certains systèmes matériels et non-matériels. Un phénomène similaire de dissociation peut être observée dans les recettes médicales, qui différencient les aliments de leurs actions dans l’usage quotidien afin d’opérer une distinction entre régime et thérapeutique. Plus qu’elles ne sont «magiques » , les voces sont l’expression d’un nouveau concept, résultant d’un échange accru de connaissances et d’un investissement dans l’éducation à partir de la période hellénistique.

Abstract:

Background Assistive technologies have become more important owing to the aging population, especially when they foster healthy behaviors. Because of their natural interface, virtual agents are promising assistants for people in need of support. To engage people during an interaction with these technologies, such assistants need to match the users´ needs and preferences, especially with regard to social outcomes. Objective Prior research has already determined the importance of an agent’s appearance in a human-agent interaction. As seniors can particularly benefit from the use of virtual agents to maintain their autonomy, it is important to investigate their special needs. However, there are almost no studies focusing on age-related differences with regard to appearance effects. Methods A 2×4 between-subjects design was used to investigate the age-related differences of appearance effects in a human-agent interaction. In this study, 46 seniors and 84 students interacted in a health scenario with a virtual agent, whose appearance varied (cartoon-stylized humanoid agent, cartoon-stylized machine-like agent, more realistic humanoid agent, and nonembodied agent [voice only]). After the interaction, participants reported on the evaluation of the agent, usage intention, perceived presence of the agent, bonding toward the agent, and overall evaluation of the interaction. Results The findings suggested that seniors evaluated the agent more positively (liked the agent more and evaluated it as more realistic, attractive, and sociable) and showed more bonding toward the agent regardless of the appearance than did students. In addition, interaction effects were found. Seniors reported the highest usage intention for the cartoon-stylized humanoid agent, whereas students reported the lowest usage intention for this agent. The same pattern was found for participant bonding with the agent. Seniors showed more bonding when interacting with the cartoon-stylized humanoid agent or voice only agent, whereas students showed the least bonding when interacting with the cartoon-stylized humanoid agent. En 2016, peu après la parution de l’ouvrage synthèse Les Tabernacles du Québec des xviie et xviiie siècles, un tabernacle méconnu, sculpté vers 1795 par Philippe Liébert (1733-1804) pour l’église de Saint-Constant (Montérégie), est sorti de l’ombre, s’additionnant aux 84 ouvrages déjà recensés. On doit au sculpteur Liébert plus d’une quinzaine d’autels principaux ou encore latéraux, dont l’exceptionnel maître-autel de l’ancien Hôpital Général de Montréal datant des années 1785-1788 et offert par les Soeurs grises au Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, en 2000. L’ancien tabernacle de Saint-Constant, aujourd’hui en usage dans l’église de Sainte Clotilde (Montérégie), se distingue de la production de Liébert par une architecture inédite et par l’adjonction de deux statuettes atypiques.

Three different coagulating agents, Iraqi-produced alum, Swedish-produced alum, and laboratory- produced polyaluminum chloride (PAC) were used to clarify samples taken from Iraqi river water. A laboratory rig was built to produce PAC from the reaction between hydrochloric acid and aluminum powder. The results after raw water treatment showed that the dosage of PAC required for treatment was 98% less than that of alum when it was applied to water at a low turbidity and almost 90% less in the case of much higher turbidity. The application of PAC produced rapidly forming flocs and more compact sludge compared to that of alum. However, there were no significant changes in the pH of the solution. From the results obtained, the PAC agent performed better compared to alum and might be considered a good alternative to alum for raw water and waste water treatment.

Abstract This paper takes into account a particular set of Italian Complex Prepositions signaling the agent of an action (e.g. da parte di ‘by’, a nome di ‘by’). Italian exhibits several types of complex prepositions revealing a different involvement of the Agent: in particular, these complex lexemes can introduce and distinguish the participants who (i) plan and intentionally conceive an action, (ii) perform it and/or (iii) have a coercive power over its performing. The contribution aims to: (i) distinguish these Italian complex prepositions according to their functions, meanings, and the degree of involvement of the participant they introduce; (ii) analyze the collocational features and the syntactic environments where these lexemes occur; (iii) individuate possible correlations between their frequency of occurrence and the grammatical value; (iv) analyze their diachronic evolution across different historical phases; (v) put into relation the synchronic restrictions with the original syntactic environment within which the complex prepositions have been reanalyzed.

The aim of this study was to analyze the use of dental local anesthetics in Germany compared with international data. The type and distribution of dental local anesthetics and added vasoconstrictors based on a representative sample of German dentists itemized over a period of 7 years (2011 to 2017) were evaluated and statistically analyzed. The results were compared with international dental local anesthetic consumption data published since 2005. With a consistent market share of nearly 98%, articaine was the first-line local dental anesthetic agent in Germany. During the investigation period, German dental local anesthetics with epinephrine 1:200,000 had ∼50% market shares, whereas formulations with epinephrine 1:100,000 had 40% to 45% market shares. Articaine, with market shares between 38% and 81%, was also the preferred anesthetic agent in various other countries, with the notable exceptions of the United Kingdom and the United States, where lidocaine was the preferred local anesthetic agent. Epinephrine was the preferred vasoconstrictor internationally, similar to Germany. The larger market share of higher concentrated epinephrine 1:100,000 was remarkable, considering the increasing number of medically compromised patients. Increased consideration for using agents with reduced dosages of epinephrine (1:200,000) is generally recommended.

As of Aug. 2020, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is still spreading in the world. In Japan, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare developed “COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application (COCOA),” which was released on June 19, 2020. By utilizing COCOA, users can know whether or not they had contact with infected persons. If those who had contact with infected individuals keep staying at home, they may not infect those outside. However, effectiveness decreasing the number of infected individuals depending on the app’s various usage parameters is not clear. If it is clear, we could set the objective value of the app’s usage parameters (e.g., the usage rate of the total populations) and call for installation of the app. Therefore, we develop a multi-agent simulator that can express COVID-19 spreading and usage of the apps, such as COCOA. In this study, we describe the simulator and the effectiveness of the app in various scenarios. The result obtained in this study supports those of previously conducted studies.

La communication dans le domaine biomédical de Défense affronte une problématique singulière car certaines données sont à usage dual : elles sont cruciales pour l’avancée de la connaissance, mais peuvent être appliquées pour créer des agents super-pathogènes. Ce problème a reçu une attention particulière après les attentats bioterroristes de 2001. L’avènement de la génétique inverse en virologie et de la biologie de synthèse plus largement ouvre de nouvelles menaces. La publication de certains résultats devient problématique. Ces problèmes sont devenus médiatiques à l’automne 2011 avec l’affaire du virus H5N1 dont certaines mutations rendaient le virus hautement virulent. Il y avait là toute l’information pour construire un nouveau virus pandémique. Les articles ont d’abord été censurés. Après une violente campagne qui a vu s’affronter les tenants d’une libre science, à ceux d’un contrôle aigu de l’information scientifique, ces articles ont fait l’objet d’une publication non seulement intégrale, mais hautement publicisée jusque dans les médias généraux. Cette affaire illustre les difficultés que peut rencontrer la recherche biomédicale de Défense dont les enjeux éthiques doivent être évalués et discutés ouvertement avant que les problèmes ne surgissent.

Par leurs propriétés uniques, les vecteurs viraux sont incontournables en thérapie génique ou pour l’ingénierie des thérapies cellulaires. Leur usage direct en tant qu’agent d’immunothérapie antitumorale, soit sous la forme de virus oncolytique ou comme vaccin thérapeutique, fait encore l’objet d’importants travaux de recherche et développement. L’approbation de T-Vec en 2015 a dopé le domaine des oncolytiques et près d’une vingtaine de produits sont en cours d’évaluation clinique. Les vecteurs non réplicatifs bénéficient de l’engouement général pour la vaccination thérapeutique et de l’arrivée des nouvelles classes d’antigènes. Ces deux classes d’immunothérapies virales trouvent parfaitement leur place dans les stratégies de combinaison avec d’autres modalités de traitement. Le secteur reste dynamique sur le plan de l’innovation technologique et clinique. Cet article évoque également les défis qui restent à relever pour que les vecteurs viraux puissent devenir une classe thérapeutique reconnue et industriellement mature.

A Poisson regression analysis using count data was performed to determine the factors influencing the number of times county agents directly referred to published cost of production (enterprise budget) information in a year. The agent's understanding of budget information use in management decisions, the availability of budgets, and his/her receiving the budgets in multiple forms (e.g., sheets, booklets, or software) had significant positive impacts on the use of budgets by the agent.

Cape Town's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, MyCiTi, uses an Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system that generates large volumes of transactional data on a daily basis. This data can be considered Big Data. The AFC data in its raw format, however, is incapable of supporting supply and demand analysis (e.g. studying bus occupancy rates). Agent-Based Modelling (ABM) can be used to analyse such data for that purpose. This paper discusses the development and calibration of a MATSim-based ABM to analyse AFC data for Cape Town's BRT system. It is shown that data-formatting algorithms are critical in the preparation of data for modelling activities. Furthermore, the development of appropriate ABM calibration parameters requires careful consideration in terms of appropriate data collection, simulation testing, and justification, which are discussed. The paper furthermore shows that the calibrated ABM can generate outputs such as bus on-board volumes, a system-demand overview, and even individual commuter path choice behaviour. Finally, a validation exercise shows that the model developed for this study is able to provide good estimates of on-board bus volumes (R2 = 0.85). It is, however, recommended that further research be conducted into studying agent path choices through simulation.

Infectious diseases caused by bacteria that have become resistant to antibiotics have increased in prevalence, necessitating new methods for their diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of synthetic ciprofloxacin to that of organic ciprofloxacin produced by cave microorganisms, as well as to evaluate the feasibility of using organic ciprofloxacin radiolabeled with technetium-99m as an imaging agent. Organic ciprofloxacin produced by cave bacteria isolated from sediment taken from the dark zone of Antalya’s "Yark Sinkhole," (Turkey’s 14th deepest cave), was purified using high-performance liquid chromatography. Purified organic ciprofloxacin and standard ciprofloxacin were radiolabeled with technetium-99m (99mTc), and their uptake by pathogenic microorganisms as well as potential as an imaging agent were examined. According to thin-layer radiochromatography, radiolabeling efficiencies were 98.99 ± 0.34 (n = 7) and 91.25 ± 1.84 (n = 7) for radiolabeled organic ciprofloxacin and standard ciprofloxacin respectively. The binding efficiency of radiolabeled organic ciprofloxacin at the 240th minute was higher compared with radiolabeled standard ciprofloxacin, especially with P.aeruginosa, MRSA, VRE and E.coli. The results demonstrate that radiolabeling with 99mTc does not alter the biological behavior of organic ciprofloxacin, and radiolabeled organic ciprofloxacin has potential as an imaging agent for the detection of bacterial infection. The original value of the study is the monitoring of the antibiofilm effects of untouched cave-derived organic antibiotics by radiolabeling with a radionuclide.

For the generic specification of protocols, goals, or workflows, many approaches to agent-oriented modeling provide a concept of role. Roles abstract from the concrete agents involved in an interaction. They provide means for the evolution of agents and serve as components of agent design. Despite the widespread usage of roles in agent-oriented modeling, a systematic analysis of the different aspects and properties of this concept is still missing. In this paper, we perform such an analysis and identify requirements for a general role concept. We develop such a role concept for a modeling approach based on the UML and graph transformation systems and exemplify its use for the specification (and application) of protocols. Finally, we provide a run-time semantics for roles based on concepts from the theory of graph transformation.
