Abstract:
Software agents represent a radical departure from earlier monolithic approaches to artificial intelligence by introducing intelligence in small packages in many different places. For each instance of potential aiding there are two questions: 1- can a software agent perform the task? and 2- can the agent's assistance contribute to team performance? Our research addresses these two issues by demonstrating the feasibility of sophisticated agent assistance in scenario-based technology demonstrations and investigating the contribution of agent assistance to human team performance using simplified, controllable laboratory experiments.

Abstract:

Abstract. After the incidence of a disaster, a high demand for first-aid and a huge number of injured will emerge at the affected areas. In this paper, the optimum allocation of the medical assistance to the injured according to a multi-criteria decision making is performed by Multiplicatively Weighted Network Voronoi Diagram (MWNVD). For consideration of the allocation of the injured in the affected area to the appropriate hospitals using the MWNVD and decreasing the gap between the estimated and expected population in the MWNVDs, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is applied to the MWNVDs.
This paper proposes a multi agent-based modeling for incorporating the allocation of the medical supplies to the injured according to the generated Voronoi Diagrams of the PSO-MWNVD, wayfinding of emergency vehicles based on the minimum travel distance and time as well as using smart city facilities to expedite the rescue operation. In the proposed model, considering the priority of the injured for receiving the medical assistance, information transfer about the condition of the injured to the hospitals prior to ambulance arrival for providing appropriate treatment, updating of emergency vehicles route based on the blocked streets and etc. are optimized.
The partial difference between the estimated and expected population for receiving the medical assistance in MWNVDs is computed as 37 %, while the PSO-MWNVD decreased the mentioned difference to 6 %. The relief operation time in the proposed model compared to another multi-agent rescue operation model, which uses MWNVD and does not have some facilities of the proposed model, is improved.

Abstract:
Through the application of intelligent systems in driver assistance systems, the experience of traveling by road has become much more comfortable and safe. In this sense, this paper then reports the development of an intelligent driving assistant, based on vehicle telemetry and road accident risk map analysis, whose responsibility is to alert the driver in order to avoid risky situations that may cause traffic accidents. In performance evaluations using real cars in a real environment, the on-board intelligent assistant reproduced real-time audio-visual alerts according to information obtained from both telemetry and road accident risk map analysis. As a result, an intelligent assistance agent based on fuzzy reasoning was obtained, which supported the driver correctly in real-time according to the telemetry data, the vehicle environment and the principles of secure driving practices and transportation regulation laws. Experimental results and conclusions emphasizing the advantages of the proposed intelligent driving assistant in the improvement of the driving task are presented.

Abstract:
In the network-based DNC systems and especially heterogeneous DNC systems data get more distributed due to the ability to store not only in the DNC Server but also in the CNC controller or CNC Terminal. This leads a challenge to the DNC software in the implementation of its basic functions. The agent-based DNC software with assistants (ADNC) is suggested to solve the above problem. Its tasks are to collect distributed NC information and transfer data safely as well as performing other extended functions, i.e. NC program generation, machine data collection, production data collection, control machines in system, etc. The present work presented the concept to develop the ADNC and its first prototype. This prototype was developed in a process using a framework of agent-based assistants, called AgentAP. It is applicable on distributed manufacturing data and had been implemented on the agent platform JADE. The module Program Assistant, one of these prototype modules, which is responsible for management, bidirectional transfer, and monitoring change of NC programs, is also discussed

Abstract:
Personal assistants need to allow the user to interact with the system in a flexible and adaptive way such as through spoken language dialogue. This research is aimed at achieving robust and effective dialogue management in such applications. We focus on an application, the Smart Personal Assistant (SPA), in which the user can use a variety of devices to interact with a collection of personal assistants, each specializing in a task domain. The current implementation of the SPA contains an e-mail management agent and a calendar agent that the user can interact with through a spoken dialogue and a graphical interface on PDAs. The user-system interaction is handled by a Dialogue Manager agent. We propose an agent-based approach that makes use of a BDI agent architecture for dialogue modelling and control. The Dialogue Manager agent of the SPA acts as the central point for maintaining coherent user-system interaction and coordinating the activities of the assistants. The dialogue model consists of a set of complex but modular plans for handling communicative goals. The dialogue control flow emerges automatically as the result of the agent???s plan selection by the BDI interpreter. In addition the Dialogue Manager maintains the conversational context, the domainspecific knowledge and the user model in its internal beliefs. We also consider the problem of dialogue adaptation in such agent-based dialogue systems. We present a novel way of integrating learning into a BDI architecture so that the agent can learn to select the most suitable plan among those applicable in the current context. This enables the Dialogue Manager agent to tailor its responses according to the conversational context and the user???s physical context, devices and preferences. Finally, we report the evaluation results, which indicate the robustness and effectiveness of the dialogue model in handling a range of users.

With the rapid development of agent technologies, it has been an important application on education. There are many researches on virtual teaching assistant. However, existing virtual teaching assistant systems are either for chatting or general course uses, but lack assisting functionalities for lab-based classes. Demonstration and guiding are accounted very important activities in traditional laboratories. However, it is difficult for teaching assistants to do the same demonstration step many times, or to give much assistance at the same time. For the reasons above, this work designs and implements a lab-based teaching assistant agent that provides more teaching assistance, increase the interest of learning, and also reduce both teacher and TAs’ workload. Based on our framework, the proposed agent can guide students to solve the problem step by step as a real teaching assistant. Students can request our agent to demonstrate the experiment procedure for many times and anywhere, and the agent can remind students where they should be careful during the demonstration. In order to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed agent, experiments are conducted for our students in Feng Chia University who took the “broadband network” course. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed agent is efficient to guide and assist students in solving their experimental problems.

The thesis focuses on integrating the open data of the New Taipei City Government and global positioning system technology to build an intelligent traffic assistant agent system with location-based service (LBS) and linked open data (LOD) technology. The proposed system mainly stores data into the database one by one and analyzes those data through the government's open materials for providing more convenient instant traffic information to users and government related units. Taking the traffic information of the New Taipei City Government as an example, the system can not only display the optimal size through smart handheld devices (including IOS and Android systems) and computer devices, but also integrate database analysis to instantly view traffic information. Users don’t need to download and install the app and just open the browser and directly keyin the URL to enter the system to implement the system cross-platform services, and save a lot of system development costs. The system also provides a user return function. When the vehicle sensor is not installed in some road sections, but the vehicle is blocked in the road section, the user can report the latest road condition information through the user's timely return. After comparing and analyzing the system with some related applications, although the functions are similar, the proposed system has more practicality, information accessibility and excellent user experience.

Abstract:
AbstractBased on a review of the relations between the European Commission (EC) and Turkey across a selection of policy areas, this chapter illustrates two aspects of EC influence in EU–Turkey relations. First, as a defender of the rules of the (enlargement) game, the Commission has rebuffed attempts by some member states to undermine Turkey’s membership prospects. The EC’s influence in the debate on the most appropriate approach to Turkey underlines its autonomous role within the EU system and the relevance of its norm-based argumentation. However, due to Turkey’s current alienation from the EU’s normative standards, norm-based arguments in favor of Turkey’s membership have lost much of their weight even within the Commission. Second, the EC has been an important ‘agent of change’ in Turkish domestic politics, even in times of deteriorating political relations with the EU. Because of its contributions to regular interactions, in particular, in the framework of projects financed by the EU’s Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance, the EC has continued to increase administrative capacity and policy learning processes within Turkey’s bureaucracy, which, in turn, contributed to Ankara’s continued harmonization with the EU acquis in some sectors, despite the waning relevance of the EU’s conditionality strategy.

Abstract:
Ubiquitous computing is a new emerging computing style which adapts various computing devices throughout our living and working spaces. These devices include mobile devices (such as PDAs, smartphones), traditional desktop, smart-board and so on. Mobile devices coordinate with each other and network services seamlessly, yet they are often inactive and even when in use they are most of the time disconnected from the network, which severely limits their use for ubiquitous interaction with the environment’s entities. In this paper we study the integration of Collaborative Mobile Environment (CoMoE) and interactive devices such as smart-board to overcome the pervious problems. The focus of this work is on the development of the integration architectural framework. This architectural framework is based on Coordinated Intelligent Rational Agent (CIR-Agent) model, which supports sophisticated real-time interaction among agents. Also we discuss the notion of personal assistant agents that allows the physical integration and interoperability of entities in an environment and in the same time provides assistance in achieving user’s goals.
