Agila metoder och modeller ses ofta som nytänkande och används idag flitigt av företag och organisationer runt om i värden. I realiteten är grunden till det agila metoderna idag 13 år och mycket har hänt, både teknisk och kring sättet vi arbetar, sedan 2001. Den agila metodiken baseras på två dokument, det agila manifestet och de agila principerna, där principerna är till för att konkretisera manifestet. Eftersom principerna är konkreta anser vi att de har en stark koppling till hur agil utveckling de facto bedrivs. Vi har därför valt att undersöka hur principerna står sig bland utvecklarna över ett decennium efter att de skrevs samt om utvecklarna ser ett behov av revidering och vilka delar de i så fall skulle vilja förändra. För att ta reda på detta genomförde vi fyra intervjuer med utvecklare som alla hade olika erfarenhet av agilt arbete samt utgick från en tidigare kvantitativ undersökning i ämnet. Slutsatsen av undersökning är att de agila principerna fortfarande står sig bra bland utvecklarna men att det finns ett behov av revidering. Original utformningen är dock så pass väl fungerande att behovet inte är omedelbart. Det finns flera ämnen som våra respondenter tagit upp som är viktiga att ta hänsyn till där kvalitet och dokumentation är de ämnen som står ut i mängden. I mångt och mycket överensstämmer vårt resultat med den undersökning vi utgått från vilket tyder på att den bild som förmedlas av de båda undersökningarna har en god förankring hos utvecklarna, även om det finns områden där våra resultat skiljer sig från varandra.<br>Agile methodology and models has a wide group of supporters among organizations and companies and is often seen as innovative. The agile methods are now 13 years and a lot has happened since then, both in our ways of working and in the technology we use. The agile methodology is based on two documents, the agile manifesto and the agile principles. The principles embodies the manifesto and in our view creates a strong connection with reality and by that a strong connection with how software is developed. To find out if the principles still are viable and used among developers and if a revision of them is needed we performed a survey based on four interviews and a previously conducted quantitative study. The conclusion of this survey is that the principles are used and works well in development projects and are well thought of by the developers but there is still a need for a revision. How this revision would look and when it should be done is hard to say, the need for it aren’t urgent because of the general support of the original principles are still strong. There are a couple of different areas that our respondents point out as important where quality and documentation stands out as the most important that organizations working agile have to focus on in their daily work. Our survey and the study we used as an inspiration ends up in mostly the same conclusions with only few differences, which we see as a confirmation that our study reflects the developers’ view.

Background. Agile software development has seen increased use in large-scale projects in recent times. Many larger corporations transition from using a traditional plan-driven approach for developing software to applying the Agile methodology within its processes. Large-scale Agile projects are inherently difficult to implement as there are many challenges associated with it. Many Agile frameworks have been developed to make it easier to apply the Agile methodology on a large-scale. The Agile principle of reflecting and adjusting at regular intervals can be used for developing these frameworks and allows practitioners to find ways to mitigate the challenges that large-scale Agile projects face. Objectives. This thesis aims to explore how a large-scale Agile project applies the Agile principle of reflecting and adjusting its work process, both at the overall and team level. The objectives of the thesis are to find out how the case organization regularly reflects on its work process and how it enables adjustments through the distribution of roles that can enforce changes. An additional objective is to find out what the perceived challenges are that are associated with performing regular reflections and adjustments in a large-scale Agile context. Methods. A field study is conducted at a large-scale Agile project. The field study includes direct observations of day-to-day work and scheduled meetings, interviewing project participants, and reading company documentation. The collected data is thematically analyzed to identify how the case organization reflects and adjust its work process and what the perceived challenges are. Results. Three different events are identified at the case organization to apply the Agile principle of reflecting and adjusting: reference groups to reflect on larger matters affecting much of the project, retrospective meetings to some extent to reflect within the different teams, and day-to-day reflections. All the identified roles can influence change for most parts of the process, but can only enforce change on their part of the process. Six themes are identified as perceived challenges associated with the Agile principle of reflecting and adjusting: Deadlines and time limits, multiple tasks within the teams, disinterest or misunderstanding the Agile principles, different levels of Agile, and established process and complacency. Conclusions. The case organization applies several different reflective events that address some of the challenges that are associated with large-scale Agile projects. The case organization has many other challenges relating to these events and they are all associated with other challenges previously discovered in related works.<br>Bakgrund. Agil mjukvaruutveckling har sett en ökad användning i storskaliga projekt under den senaste tiden. Många större företag övergår från att använda en traditionell plandriven strategi för att utveckla programvara till att tillämpa den Agila metodiken i sina processer. Det finns många utmaningar när man använder den Agila metodiken i ett storskaligt projekt. Agila projekt på stor skala är svårt att genomföra, och många Agila ramverk har utvecklats för att göra det lättare att tillämpa den Agila metodiken på stor skala. Den Agila principen att reflektera och justera med jämna mellanrum kan användas för att utveckla dessa ramverk och gör det möjligt för utövare att hitta sätt att tackla de utmaningar som storskaliga Agila projekt står inför. Syfte. Denna avhandling undersöker hur ett storskaligt Agilt projekt tillämpar den Agila principen att reflektera och justera sin arbetsprocess, både på en övergripande nivå och teamnivå. Målet med avhandlingen är att ta reda på hur organisationen regelbundet reflekterar över sin arbetsprocess och hur den möjliggör justeringar genom fördelning av roller som kan verkställa förändringarna. Ett ytterligare mål är att ta reda på vilka upplevda utmaningar som är förknippade med att utföra regelbundna reflektioner och justeringar i ett storskaligt Agilt sammanhang. Metod. En fältstudie genomförs på ett storskaligt Agilt projekt. Fältstudien inkluderar direkta observationer av det dagliga arbetet och schemalagda möten, intervjuer med projektdeltagare, och läsa företagetsdokumentation. Den insamlade datan analyseras tematiskt för att identifiera hur organisationen reflekterar och justerar sin arbetsprocess och de upplevda utmaningarna som relaterar till det. Resultat. Organisationen använder sig av tre olika sätt för att tillämpa den Agila principen för reflektion och justering: referensgrupper för att reflektera över större frågor som påverkar stora delar av projektet, retrospektiva möten i viss mån för att reflektera i de olika teamen, och dagliga reflektioner. Alla identifierade roller kan influera förändring på processen, men kan bara verkställa förändringar på sin del av processen. Sex teman identifieras som upplevda utmaningar förknippade med den Agila principen att reflektera och justera: Tidsfrister och tidsgränser, flera uppgifter inom teamen, ointresse eller missförståelse av de Agila principerna, olika nivåer av Agile, och etablerad process och självgodhet. Slutsatser. Organisationen tillämpar flera olika funktioner för reflektion som hanterar några av de utmaningar som är förknippade med storskaliga Agila projekt. Organisationen har många andra utmaningar relaterade till dessa funktioner och de är alla förknippade med andra utmaningar som tidigare upptäckts i relaterade arbeten.

Lean och dess principer är något som mer och mer branscher och företag börjar titta på, allt ifrån tjänstesektorn, sjukvården men även systemutvecklingsbranschen. Flertalet företag inom systemutveckling har gjort försök med att kombinera lean och agila principer i deras systemutvecklingsprocess, detta har skett med varierande framgång. Denna studie har som syfte att undersöka vilka fördelar och utmaningar som finns med att kombinera lean och agila principer i systemutveckling. Frågan som undersökningen har som syfte att besvara är: ”Hur kan principer ifrån Lean production och Agil kombineras för att skapa en uppsättning principer som är mer användbara för systemutveckling?” För att besvara denna fråga tillämpas en systematisk litteraturstudie och intervjuer som datainsamlingsmetoder. Detta för att kunna analysera litteraturen som tar upp hur dessa principer har kombinerats, och vilka fördelar och utmaningar som uppstod vid kombination. Men även att ta fram vad personer med kunskap och insyn inom dessa områden anser om en kombination, vad de anser en kombination kan bidra med och vilka svårigheter som kan uppstå med en kombination. Undersökningen visar att fördelar kan uppnås genom att kombinera principerna ifrån lean och agil, jämfört mot att bara följa de agila principerna. Några av dessa fördelar är kontinuerligt förbättrande, kontinuerligt lärande, mindre defekter och snabbare leverans tider. Samtidigt hade vissa av organisationerna svårigheter med att få ett kontinuerligt flöde, där team eller projekt setup hävdas vara orsaken för detta. Genom att använda lean principerna som ett ”plugin” ihop med de principer som finns i det agila manifestet, förstärks de agila principerna. Men det bidrar även till att organisationen lättare vet vad deras kund anser är värde och utifrån det, kan de sen effektivisera sina processer.

Websites today only offer simpler form of technical analysis and are not fun to use, therefore student decided to build a website that makes technical analysis a bit more fun by giving user possibility to experiment with settings for technical indicators and also see clear visible results from analysis. Student decided to build website in ASP.NET. Technical indicators for this project only consist of those who give buy and sell-signals via cross-over, no divergence or pattern finding.This project has three questions that define this project. It’s important that there is good functionality so that performing an analysis is perceived as simple, one question is therefore; what functionality for website is needed in order for analysis to be perceived as more simple?Technical analysis is a pretty complex subject and demands an interface that is perceived as easy to understand and easy to use, it’s therefore important that the interface is well designed, second question is therefore; how should the interface be designed to be user-friendly?When systems grow large they often become hard to develop and later on unmaintainable because of the accumulated complexity and dependency between classes, the code is a mess, the last question is therefore; how can the systems complexity be eased with object-oriented design principles?Jakob Nielsens ten heuristics for User Interface Design were used as inspiration for designing the interface for the website. The system design follows SOLID principles, some pattern-design were also used because pattern-design often fulfills SOLID principles or makes for pretty good solutions in regular code-problems.At the beginning of the project the student did a small research to find out what was needed in order to complete project. Work-method for project follows agile development where decisions were made on a weekly basis. The project was divided into three phases where each phase was strongly coupled to a specific area of responsibility. Prototypes for interface were made and used as a basis for the resulting interface.The project led to a working website with good functionality. Filter was considered as important in order to ease shaping of analysis because the user could more easily sort and pick stock. The student assumed that the user would want fast and easy access to their stock so portfolio management were implemented so that user could more easily get to stock that was considered as favorites. The interface follows to a big extent Jakob Nielsens ten heuristics for User Interface Design and is proven by comparing interface with principles. The same goes for design of the system, design is proven by comparing with principles, still to this day system is considered easy to continue development.Student made the conclusion that SOLID principles were very important in order for the system to maintain its health and took experience from these principles. Student became happy with the interface but more focus could’ve been given for a more interactive interface because it might’ve been perceived as more intuitive.

Agila arbetssätt och den agila filosofin har över de två senaste decennierna blivit ett självklart element I det flesta IT-systemutvecklingsprojekt. Fördelarna som följer med den agila filosofin (exempelvis ökad kundanpassning och snabbare leveranser) har bidragit till att större företag börjat att införa agila arbetssätt i hela organisationen – det vill säga inte bara i enskilda projekt. Denna idé har lett till att olika generella ramverk som benämns för Skalade agila ramverk (Scaled Agile Framework) har introducerats på marknaden. Ett par exempel på befintliga ramverk är Scrum of Scrums, LeSS, Scaled Agile Framework och Lean Scalable Agility. Av existerande ramverk är “Scaled Agile Framework” (SAFe) den mest implementerade och väletablerade. Det finns emellertid flera utmaningar med att införa SAfe i stora verksamheter. En utmaning är att skalade agila ramverk är komplexa och tar lång tid att införa. En annan utmaning är att det saknas verktyg som stöttar organisationer i deras försök att implementera ramverket. Detta är problematiskt eftersom det kan leda till en ineffektiv implementeringsprocess, högre kostnader och att vinsterna med den agila filosofin reduceras. Detta har lett oss till det problem som vi adresserar i studien; det saknas kunskap om hur bedömningsmodeller för SAFe skall designas. Problemet har sporrat oss att utföra en studie där vi, tillsammans med en organisation i näringslivet, har designat och utvärderat ett användbart och icke-komplext verktyg för bedömning av skalade agila ramverk. Syftet är med verktyget är att det skall effektivisera implementeringsprocessen av SAFe. Problemet har också legat till grund för vår forskningsfråga som lyder: Hur bör ett verktyg för bedömning av SAFe implementationer designas? För att finna svar på forskningsfrågan har vi valt att följa forskningsmetoden Action Design Research (ADR). ADR metoden vill bidra IS-forskning genom att 1) den adresserar ett problem i en specifik organisatorisk kontext genom design av en IT-artefakt samtidigt som den 2) stödjer identifiering av designprinciper. Studiens resultat visar att bedömningsmodellen fungerar, att den bidrar till att lösa det adresserade problemet samt att de designprinciper som presenteras är korrekta.<br>Agile methods and the agile manifesto has been for the last two decades a central focus point of software development in the world. The benefits that come with the usage of the agile philosophy (for example, increased customer adaptation and quicker deliveries) has led larger companies to try to adopt the principles on their entire organization - not only on smaller projects. This adoption has translated to the emergence of various frameworks that are generally labeled as Scaled agile frameworks. A few examples of these frameworks are Scrum of Scrums, LeSS, Scaled Agile Framework and Lean Scalable Agility. These frameworks are being widely adopted by large companies, with SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) being the most adopted on the market. However, these frameworks have become a pinnacle of complexity due to the large size of the frameworks which proves to be a challenge for the company that is using them. This is problematic because there are no real tools to evaluate the implementation of scaled agile frameworks. With no tools to use, there is a risk of having an inefficient implementation process which constitutes to higher costs and that the general benefits of Agile manifesto are lost on the way. This has led us to the problem that we’re addressing in this study: There is a lack of knowledge on how to design assessment models for the SAFe framework. This problem has spurred us into conduct a study where we, together with an organization within the IT-industry, have designed and evaluated a tool that effectively assesses the implementation of SAFe. The problem set the groundwork for our science and the question we seek to answer in this study is: How should a tool for assessment of SAFe implementation be designed? Consequently, to find answers to this question, we have chosen to use the research method Action Design Research (ADR). The method of ADR wants to contribute to IS-research by 1) To design an uncomplex tool that can help IT industry to evaluate their scaled agile framework implementation and 2) provide theoretical knowledge translated into design principles that will contribute to other design efforts in similar contexts. The result provided in this study will help show that the design knowledge works, provide rigor to the study, help solve the given problem of the study and show that the design knowledge is correct
