Abstract Our population is aging—by 2034, the US will have more people over 65 than under 18, and older residents make up a disproportionate number of casualties from natural disasters. In Climate Resilience for an Aging Nation, community resilience and housing expert Danielle Arigoni argues that we cannot achieve true resilience until communities adopt interventions that work to meet the needs of their oldest residents. Older adults are over-represented among fatalities in climate-fueled disasters, ranging from Hurricane Katrina in 2005 to the Maui wildfires of 2023 – and countless events in

Purpose By 2030, the United States' population will increase to approximately 365 million, including 72 million older adults (age ≥ 65 years) and 157 million minority individuals. Although cancer incidence varies by age and race, the impact of demographic changes on cancer incidence has not been fully characterized. We sought to estimate the number of cancer patients diagnosed in the United States through 2030 by age and race. Methods Current demographic-specific cancer incidence rates were calculated using the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results database. Population projections from the

Reducing farmland abandonment is important to address food security issues. China is accelerating its transition into an aging society, and this change in the labor force structure may have an impact on farmland abandonment. This study is based on the China Labor Force Survey conducted in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 and collects data from 29,704 valid farmer samples in 29 provinces and cities across the nation. We investigate how farmer aging affects farmland abandonment from the viewpoints of information, mutual aid, and factor substitution using the Tobit and mediation effect models. The core

Abstract In 2019, Ghana reported the implementation of a Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program within the Faculty of Family Medicine at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS). Though this is a laudable effort to address the specialized workforce shortage the country is facing, the GCPS program is meant to provide an in-country specialization path for physicians desiring to become geriatricians.
