Abstract:
Objectives Termination rates for the highly recommended aglepristone (AGL) treatment are low in late-term pregnancy in queens. We studied the effects of an AGL and cloprostenol (CLO) combination in the termination of late-term pregnancy. Methods Pregnant queens were assigned to two groups. Queens in the AGL group (n = 10) received AGL 10 mg/kg, twice, 24 h apart. Queens in the AGL-CLO group (n = 9) were additionally injected with a single dose of CLO (5 μg/kg) 24 h after the second dose of AGL. Progesterone, 17beta(β)-oestradiol, cortisol, oxytocin and prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF2α) metabolite were measured in sera obtained at days 0, 1 and 2, and on the day of abortion. Results Average gestational age in both groups was similar (AGL 38.61 ± 0.91 days vs AGL-CLO 39.39 ± 1.35 days; P >0.05). Termination rates were 80% and 100% in the AGL and AGL-CLO groups, respectively ( P <0.05). Fetal expulsion time was significantly longer ( P <0.001) in the AGL group (96.9 ± 6 h) compared with the AGL-CLO group (69.8 ± 3.3 h). Duration of abortion was 19.8 ± 2.6 h and 12.6 ± 1.4 h in the AGL and AGL-CLO groups, respectively ( P <0.05). Both treatments were well tolerated. Significantly ( P <0.05) lower serum progesterone concentrations were observed in both groups at the day of abortion and concentrations in the AGL-CLO group (4.19 ± 0.80 ng/ml) were lower than in the AGL group (9.89 ± 2.21 ng/ml; P <0.05). Conclusions and relevance AGL and CLO combination increases pregnancy termination rate in late-term pregnant queens. In addition, CLO contributes to a decrease in luteal function in AGL-treated late-term pregnant queens.

Abstract Context: Acquired generalized lipodystrophy (AGL) is marked by severe insulin resistance and hypertriglyceridemia. Rarely, AGL and type 1 diabetes (T1D) coexist. Objective: Our objective was to describe the response to leptin therapy in patients with coexisting AGL and T1D and to document the autoimmune diseases associated with AGL. Design and Setting: We conducted an open-label prospective study at the Clinical Research Center of the National Institutes of Health. Patients: Participants included 50 patients with generalized or partial lipodystrophy (acquired or congenital); two patients had both AGL and T1D. Intervention: Patients were treated with 12 months of recombinant human leptin administration to achieve high-normal serum concentrations. Results: Two patients had both AGL and T1D. The first was diagnosed with T1D at age 8 yr. Beginning at age 11 yr, he developed generalized lipodystrophy, elevated transaminases, and poor glycemic control [hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) 10.7%] despite markedly increased insulin requirements (3.3–5 U/kg·d). Further evaluation revealed hypoleptinemia and hypertriglyceridemia. At age 15 yr, leptin therapy was initiated, and after 1 yr, his insulin requirements fell to 1 U/kg·d, his glycemic control improved (HbA1c 8.4%), and both his triglycerides and transaminases normalized. The second patient developed concurrent AGL and T1D at age 6 yr. Despite insulin doses of up to 32 U/kg·d, she developed poor glycemic control (HbA1c 10.6%), hypertriglyceridemia (2984 mg/dl), elevated transaminases, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. At age 13 yr, leptin therapy was started, and after 1 yr, her glycemic control improved (HbA1c 7.3%) and her insulin requirements decreased (17 U/kg·d). Her triglycerides remained elevated but were improved (441 mg/dl). Conclusions: Long-term recombinant leptin therapy is effective in treating the insulin resistance of patients with the unusual combination of T1D and AGL.

AbstractAmylo-α-1,6-glucosidase,4-α-glucanotransferase (AGL) is an enzyme primarily responsible for glycogen debranching. Germline mutations lead to glycogen storage disease type III (GSDIII). We recently found AGL to be a tumor suppressor in xenograft models of human bladder cancer (BC) and low levels of AGL expression in BC are associated with poor patient prognosis. However, the impact of low AGL expression on the susceptibility of normal bladder to carcinogenesis is unknown. We address this gap by developing a germline Agl knockout (Agl−/−) mouse that recapitulates biochemical and histological features of GSDIII. Agl−/− mice exposed to N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosamine (BBN) had a higher BC incidence compared with wild-type mice (Agl+/+). To determine if the increased BC incidence observed was due to decreased Agl expression in the urothelium specifically, we developed a urothelium-specific conditional Agl knockout (Aglcko) mouse using a Uroplakin II-Cre allele. BBN-induced carcinogenesis experiments repeated in Aglcko mice revealed that Aglcko mice had a higher BC incidence than control (Aglfl/fl) mice. RNA sequencing revealed that tumors from Agl−/− mice had 19 differentially expressed genes compared with control mice. An ‘Agl Loss’ gene signature was developed and found to successfully stratify normal and tumor samples in two BC patient datasets. These results support the role of AGL loss in promoting carcinogenesis and provide a rationale for evaluating Agl expression levels, or Agl Loss gene signature scores, in normal urothelium of populations at risk of BC development such as older male smokers.

Abstract:
Objectives This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of oral misoprostol (MIS) administration in the induction of mid-term pregnancy termination in cats. Methods Twenty-eight cats that were pregnant for 30–40 days were allocated to four groups. The aglepristone (AGL) group (n = 7) received 10 mg/kg SC aglepristone q24h for two consecutive days. In the AGL+MIS group (n = 7), AGL (as administered in the AGL group) and MIS (200 µg/cat PO q12h until the start of abortion) were administered. The MIS200 (n = 7) and MIS400 groups (n = 7) received MIS (200 or 400 µg/cat misoprostol, respectively) alone PO q12h until the start of abortion. Blood samples were collected at the start of treatment (d0), 4 days after the start of treatment (d4) and on the day of complete abortion/end of administration (dA/d7). Results The efficacy of the treatment was 71.4% in the AGL group, 100% in the AGL+MIS group, 0% in MIS200 group and 57.4% in MIS400 group ( P = 0.004). No significance was found in relation to the interval from treatment to the start/end of abortion and the duration of abortion in all groups. The most observed side effect was vomiting in both groups administered MIS, particularly in the MIS400 group (56.7%). Progesterone (P4) concentrations were reduced during the abortion, but not to basal levels, in all groups. P4 concentrations were significantly lower at dA/d7 in the MIS400 group compared with the AGL and AGL+MIS groups ( P = 0.002). Conclusions and relevance The results obtained from this study showed that low doses of MIS do not induce abortions in cats but increase the effect of AGL. Although higher doses could terminate pregnancies, this also causes intense unwanted side effects. Therefore, the use of MIS alone as an abortifacient in cats is not recommended. For mid-term pregnancy termination in cats, the combination of misoprostol and aglepristone provides a more effective abortifacient than using either of them alone.

We report the development of a cytochemical affinity technique for detection of galacturonic acids at the ultrastructural level. The highly purified gonad lectin from Aplysia depilans (AGL) was tagged with colloidal gold particles and used for labeling carbohydrates in resin-embedded sections of various plant and fungal tissues. Patterns of AGL binding sites were compared to those obtained with a D-galactose-specific lectin, Ricinus communis agglutinin I. Differences in labeling patterns were noted, indicating that the lectins exhibited differential carbohydrate binding. In addition, the considerable loss of labeling over isolated wheat coleoptile walls treated for removal of pectin, after incubation with the AGL-gold complex, strongly suggested an affinity of AGL for pectic substances. A series of cytochemical controls, including sugar inhibition tests, has proven the specificity of the technique and the high affinity of AGL towards galacturonic acids. The potential value of this new lectin for ultrastructural studies on cell wall pectic substances in plant biology and pathology is demonstrated.

Abstract The finescale three-dimensional structure and evolution of the near-surface boundary layer of a tornado (TBL) is mapped for the first time. The multibeam Rapid-Scan Doppler on Wheels (RSDOW) collected data at several vertical levels, as low as 4, 6, 10, 12, 14, and 17 m above ground level (AGL), contemporaneously at 7-s intervals for several minutes in a tornado near Russell, Kansas, on 25 May 2012. Additionally, a mobile mesonet anemometer measured winds at 3.5 m AGL in the core flow region. The radar, anemometer, and ground-based velocity-track display (GBVTD) analyses reveal the peak wind intensity is very near the surface at ~5 m AGL, about 15% higher than at 10 m AGL and 25% higher than at ~40 m AGL. GBVTD analyses resolve a downdraft within the radius of maximum winds (RMW), which decreased in magnitude when varying estimates for debris centrifuging are included. Much of the inflow (from −1 to −7 m s−1) is at or below 10–14 m AGL, much shallower than reported previously. Surface outflow precedes tornado dissipation. Comparisons between large-eddy simulation (LES) predictions of the corner flow swirl ratio Sc and observed tornado intensity changes are consistent.

Abstract:
Abstract Acquired generalized lipodystrophy (AGL) is characterized by extensive adipose tissue loss, subsequent development of metabolic disease with severe insulin resistance and hypertriglyceridemia and a varying spectrum of autoimmune or immune-dysregulatory features. We recently evaluated twelve patients (8 females, 4 males; age range: 14 - 54 years). The reported onset of fat loss varies from age 2 to 31 years of age but most patients presenting between age 3 and 19 years. The age of diagnosis varies from 4 to 53 years. Clinical panniculitis was reported in 4 patients. Although adipose tissue loss occurred in a generalized fashion, several patients had measured body fat as high as 35 percent on DEXA scans with leptinemia also covering a spectrum from undetectable levels to as high as 6.2 ng/ml. All patients had insulin resistance. Eight patients had diabetes (4 had type 1 diabetes). Dyslipidemia was diagnosed in 11 patients. Hepatic steatosis and/or elevated liver function tests were detected in all subjects. The liver disease was varied and had distinctive characteristics of episodic increases in liver tests in 4 with development of portal hypertension and splenomegaly. These patients had periportal lymphocytic and eosinophilic infiltration on liver biopsies when undertaken during transaminitis and developed portal hypertension, splenomegaly and biliary obstruction while preserving synthetic liver function over time, suggesting that their clinical course may be consistent with nodular regenerative hyperplasia (NRH). Patients also developed a wide range of immune-dysregulatory features including IgA deficiency, common variable immunodeficiency, autoimmune hives, angioedema, eczematous dermatitis, autoimmune hypothyroidism, Graves’ disease, atrophic gastritis, juvenile dermatomyositis, rheumatoid arthritis, polyarthritis, immune thrombocytopenia, cutaneous morphea, lentigo, peripheral T cell lymphoma, graft versus host disease, hemophagocytic syndrome, interstitial lung disease, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, autoimmune colitis, Crohn disease, and periodic fevers. Low complement 4 levels were detected in 5 patients, and 3 had low complement 3 levels. Genetic workup revealed CTLA-4 haploinsufficiency in one case and variants of uncertain significance in P4HA3, TTN, TNFRSF13B, and NLRP3 genes in several others. One distinctive patient was heterozygous for a pathogenic LRBA variant. The exact etiology of AGL is unknown and heterogeneity creates a diagnostic challenge. While panniculitis is a distinct initial presentation in some cases, immune dysregulation affecting multiple organs with accompanying NRH may constitute a new subgroup of AGL. Immune check-point perturbation via gremlin mutation may also lead to AGL. Collective review of cases with predetermined clinical and laboratory evaluation criteria may be helpful to describe subgroups of AGL.

La enfermedad por almacenamiento de glucógeno de tipo III es una alteración autosómica recesiva, en la cual las mutaciones del gen AGL causan una deficiencia en la enzima desramificadora de glucógeno. Se caracteriza por hipoglucemia, hepatomegalia y miopatías progresivas. El análisis molecular del gen AGL ha evidenciado mutaciones que difieren según la población estudiada. En la actualidad, no existen reportes que describan mutaciones en el AGL de pacientes colombianos con esta condición.Objetivo. Describir las características clínicas y moleculares de diez pacientes colombianos con enfermedad por almacenamiento del glucógeno de tipo III.Materiales y métodos. Se analizaron diez pacientes pediátricos colombianos con la enfermedad y se hizo su estudio genético mediante la secuenciación de las regiones que codifican y las intrónicas circundantes del gen AGL con el método de Sanger.Resultados. Todos los pacientes tenían el fenotipo clásico de la enfermedad. El estudio genético reveló la mutación p.Arg910X en dos pacientes. Uno presentó la mutación p.Glu1072AspfsX36 y otro resultó heterocigoto compuesto con las mutaciones p.Arg910X y p.Glu1072AspfsX36. Asimismo, en tres pacientes se detectó la deleción de los exones 4, 5 y 6 del gen AGL. Los estudios de simulación computacional predijeron que estos defectos eran patogénicos. En tres pacientes no se encontraron mutaciones en las regiones amplificadas.Conclusión. Se encontraron mutaciones y deleciones que explican el fenotipo clínico de los pacientes. Este es el primer reporte en el que se describe el fenotipo clínico y el espectro de mutaciones en el gen AGL de pacientes colombianos, lo cual es importante para ofrecer un apropiado pronóstico, y asesoría genética al paciente y a su familia.

Olives affected by active and damaging infestation (olive fruit fly Bactrocera oleae (Rossi)) were assayed for their chemical composition. Biophenols were determined by HPLC, sterols, triterpenic dialcohols, and fatty acids by gas chromatography analysis. The acquired data were statistically analyzed. Oils produced from “Istrska belica” fruit affected by active infestation compared to the oils made from fruit affected by damaging infestation showed higher amounts of total oleuropein biofenols (377.3 versus (vs.) 106.6 mg/kg), total biophenols (755 vs. 377 mg/kg), lignans (85.3 vs. 32.9 mg/kg), the dialdehydic form of decarboxymethyl oleuropein aglycone (DMO-Agl-dA) (148.3 vs. 49.0 mg/kg), its oxidized form (DMO-Agl-dA)ox (35.2 vs. 8.5 mg/kg), the dialdehydic form of oleuropein aglycone (O-Agl-dA) (61.1 vs. 8.0 mg/kg), the dialdehydic form of ligstroside aglycone (L-Agl-dA) (63.5 vs. 28.0 mg/kg), the aldehydic form of oleuropein aglycone (O-Agl-A) (40.6 vs. 8.4 mg/kg), and lower amounts of tyrosol (Tyr) (6.0 vs. 13. 9 mg/kg) and the aldehydic form of ligstroside aglycone (L-Agl-A) (13.8 vs. 40.3 mg/kg). Higher values of stigmasterol (2.99%) and lower values of campesterol (2.25%) were determined in oils affected by damaging infestation; an increase in triterpenic dialcohols was also observed (3.04% for damaging and 1.62% for active infestation). Oils affected by damaging infestation, compared to active infestation, showed lower amounts of oleic acid (73.89 vs. 75.15%) and higher amounts of myristic (0.013 vs. 0.011%), linoleic (7.27 vs. 6.48%), and linolenic (0.74 vs. 0.61%) acids.

ABSTRACT The hepatitis B virus (HBV) envelope proteins bear two determinants of viral entry: a receptor-binding site (RBS) in the pre-S1 domain of the large envelope protein and a conformation-dependent determinant, of unknown function, in the antigenic loop (AGL) of the small, middle, and large envelope proteins. Using an in vitro infection assay consisting of susceptible HepaRG cells and the hepatitis delta virus (HDV) as a surrogate of HBV, we first investigated whether subelements of the pre-S1 determinant (amino acids 2 to 75), i.e., the N-terminal myristoyl anchor, subdomain 2-48 (RBS), and subdomain 49-75, were functionally separable. In transcomplementation experiments, coexpression of two distinct infectivity-deficient pre-S1 mutants at the surface of HDV virions failed to restore infectivity, indicating that the myristoyl anchor, the 2-48 RBS, and the 49-75 sequence, likely cooperate in cis at viral entry. Furthermore, we showed that as much as 52% of total pre-S1 in the HDV envelope could bear infectivity-deficient lesions without affecting entry, indicating that a small number of pre-S1 polypeptides—estimated at three to four per virion—is sufficient for infectivity. We next investigated the AGL activity in the small or large envelope protein background (S- and L-AGL, respectively) and found that lesions in S-AGL were more deleterious to infectivity than in L-AGL, a difference that reflects the relative stoichiometry of the small and large envelope proteins in the viral envelope. Finally, we showed that C147S, an AGL infectivity-deficient substitution, exerted a dominant-negative effect on infectivity, likely reflecting an involvement of C147 in intermolecular disulfide bonds.

In this study, the AGL cysteines were substituted by serine or alanine, and the mutants were evaluated for their function at viral entry using HDV particles and susceptible HepaRG cells. Mutations of cysteines 121 to 149 were tolerant of the production of HDV virions. The mutations altered the structure and antigenicity of the conserved “a” determinant of the AGL, as measured by conformation-sensitive antibodies, and they created a block to infectivity. Substitution of Cys-90 or Cys-221, located outside of the AGL, had no impact on the “a” determinant or viral entry. Furthermore, infectivity was maintained when the AGL CxxC motif at position 121 to 124 was modified by single-amino-acid deletion or insertion, suggesting that cysteines 121 and 124 are not catalyzers of thiol/disulfide exchange. However, membrane-impermeable inhibitors of thiol/disulfide isomerazation demonstrated a dose-dependent inhibition of infection in an in vitro assay when applied to the virus prior to inoculation or during the virus-cell interaction period. Overall, the results demonstrate the essential role of the AGL cysteines at viral entry, and they establish a correlation between the cysteine disulfide network, the conformation of the “a” determinant, and infectivity.

A partir de lotes de leite cru com baixa (100.000 cel/ml) e alta (1.000.000 cel/ml) CCS, formaram-se três tratamentos: A) leite com baixa CCS; B) leite com alta CCS; C) leite originalmente com baixa CCS e com adição de células somáticas. O leite foi submetido à pasteurização e armazenado por 21 dias sob refrigeração a 6ºC. Durante o período de armazenamento, foram coletadas amostras nos dias 1, 7, 14 e 21 para avaliação da concentração de ácidos graxos livres (AGL). Não foi observado efeito de tratamento sobre a concentração de AGL, durante todo o período de armazenamento e nem em cada dia de coleta isoladamente, cujas médias de AGL, após 21 dias, foram de 0,181; 0,159 e 0,153meq/kg, respectivamente, para os tratamentos A, B e C. Observou-se efeito do tempo de armazenamento sobre a concentração de AGL do leite, independentemente dos tratamentos, com teores de AGL de 0,121meq/kg para o dia 1 e de 0,219 para o dia 21. Pode-se concluir que, independentemente da contagem de células somáticas do leite cru, ocorre aumento da lipólise do leite pasteurizado durante o período de armazenamento. A adição de células somáticas ao leite, originalmente com baixa CCS, não aumentou a taxa de lipólise durante o armazenamento refrigerado.

We discuss conceptually and investigate empirically how individual differences in implicit learning can be measured with artificial grammar learning (AGL) tasks. We address whether participants should be instructed to rate the grammaticality or the novelty of letter strings and look at the impact of a knowledge test on measurement quality. We discuss these issues from a conceptual perspective and report three experiments which suggest that (1) the reliability of AGL is moderate and too low for individual assessments, (2) a knowledge test decreases task consistency and increases the correlation with reportable grammar knowledge, and (3) performance in AGL tasks is independent from general intelligence and educational attainment.

It is also widely accepted that natural CSG projects on the eastern seaboard face increasing challenges from community opposition groups and regulatory change. Embracing diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and developing CSG projects, both require authentic engagement. AGL Energy Limited’s (AGL) Inclusion and Diversity Policy recognises that a diverse workforce, with its broad range of experience and perspectives, has a better opportunity to understand and engage in AGL’s customer base and the communities in which it works. AGL’s policy also emphasises how a diverse workforce can facilitate more creative, innovative and effective solutions. This extended abstract considers how workplace diversity can positively contribute to the development of CSG projects, which must navigate organised community opposition as well as complex regulatory environments. CSG projects, which are typically located in regional areas, can also positively contribute to a more diverse workforce. Provided are examples of situations in which diversity of—and respect for—skills, experience, gender, age, and backgrounds have assisted in achieving successful access negotiations, and enabled authentic engagement with members of the communities in which AGL operates.

Here, an alanine-scanning mutagenesis approach was used to precisely map the AGL infectivity determinant to a set of conserved residues, which are predicted to cluster together with cysteines in the AGL disulfide bridges network. Several substitutions suppressed both infectivity and the “a” determinant, whereas others were infectivity deficient with only a partial impact on antigenicity. Interestingly, G145R, a substitution often arising under immune pressure selection and detrimental to the “a” determinant, had no effect on infectivity. Altogether, these findings indicate that the AGL infectivity determinant is closely related to, yet separable from, the “a” determinant. Finally, a selection of HDV entry-deficient mutations were introduced at the surface of HBV virions and shown to also abrogate infection in the HBV model. Therefore, a function can at last be assigned to the orphan “a” determinant, the first-discovered marker of HBV infection. The characterization of the AGL functions at viral entry may lead to novel approaches in the development of antivirals against HBV.

Objective: To describe an unusual immune-related adverse event (irAE), acquired generalized lipodystrophy (AGL), from checkpoint inhibitor therapy in a patient treated with pembrolizumab. Methods: This is a case report of a 67-year-old male with metastatic melanoma who was treated with pembrolizumab. Prior to pembrolizumab, the patient was treated with another immune-checkpoint inhibitor and developed autoimmune hemolytic anemia. After starting pembrolizumab, he developed a scrotal mass consistent with panniculitis and after several subsequent cycles, he developed AGL. Results: Loss of subcutaneous fat, unexplained weight loss in combination with worsening insulin resistance and worsening hypertriglyceridemia after initiation of pembrolizumab were consistent with AGL. Autoimmune disorders and other etiologies were ruled out. Despite this irAE, the patient continued to receive pembrolizumab given stabilization of melanoma with treatment. Conclusion: We report the second case of a patient who developed AGL secondary to pembrolizumab, and the fourth case to report such complication secondary to antiprogrammed cell death receptor-1 inhibitors. As use of checkpoint inhibitors becomes more common to treat several types of cancer, it is vital for clinicians to recognize these rare irreversible complications that are not frequently reported in clinical trials.

UAV incidents were analyzed using data from Transport Canada’s Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System (CADORS). Between 5 November 2005 and 31 December 2016 a total of 355 incidents were reported in Canadian airspace. The largest number involved UAV sightings (66.5%) and close encounters with piloted aircraft (22.3%). These incidents increased markedly after 2013, with the highest number in British Columbia, followed by Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and Manitoba. The vast majority of UAV incident reports were filed by pilots of piloted aircraft. Typically, airspace at altitudes greater than 400 feet above ground level (AGL) is off limits to UAVs; however, of the 270 incidents in the CADORS database with UAV altitude reported, 80.4% were above 400 feet AGL and 62.6% were above 1000 feet AGL. Of the 268 incidents with reported horizontal distance to the nearest aerodrome, 74.6% occurred or likely occurred within five nautical miles (M), and of those 92.4% and 76.6% were reported above 100 and 300 feet AGL, respectively. Collectively, the CADORS data indicate that the overwhelming majority of UAV incidents reported in Canada were airspace violations. These results can guide future risk mitigation measures, hardware and software solutions, and educational campaigns to increase airspace safety.

The outcomes that result from previous behavior affect future choices in several ways, but the neural mechanisms underlying these effects remain to be determined. Previous studies have shown that the lateral (AGl) and medial (AGm) agranular areas of the rat frontal cortex are involved in the learning and selection of action. Here we describe the activity of single neurons in AGl and AGm as rats learned to perform a directional choice task. Our analysis shows that single-cell activity in AGl and AGm was modulated by the outcome of the previous trial. A larger proportion of neurons encoded the previous trial's outcome shortly after cue onset than during other time periods of a trial. Most of these neurons had greater activity after correct trials than after error trials, a difference that increased as behavioral performance improved. The number of neurons encoding the previous trial's outcome correlated positively with performance accuracy. In summary, we found that neurons in both AGl and AGm encode the outcome of the immediately preceding trial, information that might play a role in the successful selection of action based on past experience.

Um lote de sementes da cultivar Pintado foi submetido ao tratamento de recobrimento com a película AGL 205 (3mL/kg) e o fungicida Tegram (thiabendazole 17g i.a. + thiram 70 g i.a.) nas dosagens de 1mL e 2mL do produto comercial por kg de semente. Os tratamentos foram definidos da seguinte forma: 1- AGL 205; 2- AGL 205 + Tegram (1mL/kg); 3- AGL 205 + Tegram (2mL/kg); 4- Testemunha; 5- Tegram (1mL/kg); 6- Tegram (2mL/kg). Foram feitas avaliações no campo (emergência aos 21 dias após a semeadura, altura de inserção da primeira vagem, altura de plantas, número de vagens por planta e produção) e após a colheita (germinação, emergência em canteiro, índice de velocidade de emergência, envelhecimento acelerado, tetrazólio e sanidade). Não foi detectado nenhum efeito da película AGL 205 sobre a eficiência do tratamento fungicida com Tegram em relação ao desempenho das sementes de soja em campo e sobre a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária das sementes produzidas.

Introduction In 2016, under its new National Adherence Guidelines (AGL), South Africa formalized an existing model of fast-track HIV treatment initiation counselling (FTIC). Rollout of the AGL included an evaluation study at 24 clinics, with staggered AGL implementation. Using routinely collected data extracted as part of the evaluation study, we estimated and compared the costs of HIV care and treatment from the provider’s perspective at the 12 clinics implementing the new, formalized model (AGL-FTIC) to costs at the 12 clinics continuing to implement some earlier, less formalized, model that likely varied across clinics (denoted here as early-FTIC). Methods This was a cost-outcome analysis using standard methods and a composite outcome defined as initiated antiretroviral therapy (ART) within 30 days of treatment eligibility and retained in care at 9 months. Using patient-level, bottom-up resource-utilization data and local unit costs, we estimated patient-level costs of care and treatment in 2017 U.S. dollars over the 9-month evaluation follow-up period for the two models of care. Resource use and costs, disaggregated by antiretroviral medications, laboratory tests, and clinic visits, are reported by model of care and stratified by the composite outcome. Results A total of 350/343 patients in the early-FTIC/AGL-FTIC models of care are included in this analysis. Mean/median costs were similar for both models of care ($135/$153 for early-FTIC, $130/$151 for AGL-FTIC). For the subset achieving the composite outcome, resource use and therefore mean/median costs were similar but slightly higher, reflecting care consistent with treatment guidelines ($163/$166 for early-FTIC, $168/$170 for AGL-FTIC). Not surprisingly, costs for patients not achieving the composite outcome were substantially less, mainly because they only had two or fewer follow-up visits and, therefore, received substantially less ART than patients who achieved the composite outcome. Conclusion The 2016 adherence guidelines clarified expectations for the content and timing of adherence counseling sessions in relation to ART initiation. Because clinics were already initiating patients on ART quickly by 2016, little room existed for the new model of fast-track initiation counseling to reduce the number of pre-ART clinic visits at the study sites and therefore to reduce costs of care and treatment. We present a unified and homogeneous digital aeromagnetic map of the Hellenic mainland, based on the 1:50,000 map series of IGME. These maps cover the areas A1, A2, B, C1, C2, C3, D1 compiled by Hunting Geology and Geophysics Ltd. and measured at nominal ground clearances (flight altitudes) 150m AGL, 150m AGL, 300m AGL, and 2300m AMSL respectively (part of C2 with 3000m AMSL). We also include the entire area of Northern Greece, measured by ABEM AB with nominal ground clearance 275±75m AGL. The original map sheets were digitally imaged, georeferenced, digitized along contour lines and interpolated onto regular 250´250m grids. The unified aeromagnetic map was constructed by collating the mosaic of the resulting gridded data. Using upward/ downward continuation techniques various homogeneous versions of the map, were compiled by referencing of the observed mosaic total magnetic field to a unique constant ground clearance or to a unique constant elevation above mean sea level. This is the first time there is a complete and unified image of the magnetic signature of the isopic zones and rock formations comprising the Hellenic mainland, with particular reference to the ophiolite suites, which provides additional insight into the Alpine and post-alpine tectonics of the area.

Diurnal valley winds frequently form over complex topography, particularly under fair weather conditions, and have a significant impact on the local weather and climate. Since diurnal valley winds result from complex and multi-scale interactions, their representation in numerical weather prediction models is challenging. Better understanding of these local winds based on observations is crucial to improve the accuracy of the forecasts. This study investigates the diurnal evolution of the three-dimensional mean wind structure in a deep Alpine valley, the Rhone valley at Sion, using data from a radar wind profiler and a surface weather station operated continuously from 1 September 2016 to 17 July 2017. In particular, the wind profiler data was analyzed for a subset of days on which fair weather conditions allowed for the full development of thermally driven winds. A pronounced diurnal cycle of the wind speed, as well as a reversal of the wind direction twice per day is documented for altitudes up to about 2 km above ground level (AGL) in the warm season and less than 1 km AGL in winter. The diurnal pattern undergoes significant changes during the course of the year. Particularly during the warm-weather months of May through to September, a low-level wind maximum occurs, where mean maximum up-valley velocities of 8–10 m s−1 are found between 15–16 UTC at altitudes around 200 m AGL. In addition, during nighttime, a down-valley jet with maximum wind speeds of 4–8 m s−1 around 1 km AGL is found. A case study of a three-day period in September 2016 illustrates the occurrence of an elevated layer of cross-valley flow around 1–1.5 km AGL.

OBJETIVO: Avaliar o efeito da suplementação de L-carnitina, por 30 dias, sobre a taxa metabólica de repouso (TMR) e oxidação de ácidos graxos livres (AGL), em repouso e exercício. SUJEITOS E MÉTODOS: Vinte e um voluntários ativos (40 a 58 anos) com sobrepeso foram randomizados em dois grupos: suplementado (GS; N = 11; 1,8 g/dia de L-carnitina) e placebo (GP; N = 10; maltodextrina). Foi feita avaliação da ingestão calórica, antropometria, determinação da TMR, VO2máx, quociente respiratório e AGL plasmáticos. RESULTADOS: Não houve diferença significativa na ingestão (-244,66 vs. -126,00 kcal/dia), composição corporal (-0,07 vs. -0,17 kg/m²), TMR (0,06 vs. -0,02 kcal/ dia), quociente respiratório em repouso (3,69 vs. -1,01) e exercício (0,01 vs. -0,01) e VO2máx (0,50 vs. 1,25 mL/kg/min) para o grupo GS em relação ao GP. Houve aumento dos AGL em repouso no GP (0,27), porém sem diferenças no exercício para os grupos. CONCLUSÃO: Não houve efeito da L-carnitina em nenhuma das variáveis analisadas no estudo.

Abstract:
A nonmesocyclone tornado traversed the Hong Kong International Airport on September 6, 2004 directly impacting a surface weather station. This allowed for 1-second 10-meter above ground level (AGL) wind observations through the core of the tornado. Integration of these 10-meter AGL wind data with Ground-Based Velocity Track (GBVTD) wind retrievals derived from LIDAR data provided a time history of the three-dimensional wind field of the tornado. These data indicate a progressive decrease in radial inflow with time and little to no radial inflow near the time the tornado crosses the surface weather station. Anemometer observations suggest that the tangential winds approximate a modified-Rankine vortex outside the radius of maximum winds, suggesting that frictionally induced radial inflow was confined below 10 m AGL. The radial-height distribution of angular momentum depicts an increase in low-level angular momentum just prior to the tornado reaching its maximum intensity.

In the present work, the two-dimensional (2D) polymer poly[[μ4-2-(4-nitrobenzenesulfonamido)benzoato-κ4 O 1:O 1:O 1′:N 6]silver(I)] (AgL), [Ag(C13H9N2O6S)] n , was obtained from 2-(4-nitrobenzenesulfonamido)benzoic acid (HL), C13H10N2O6S. FT–IR, 1H and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopic analyses were used to characterize both compounds. The crystal structures of HL and AgL were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the structure of HL, O—H...O hydrogen bonds between neighbouring molecules result in the formation of dimers, while the silver(I) complex shows polymerization associated with the O atoms of three distinct deprotonated ligands (L −). Thus, the structure of the Ag complex can be considered as a coordination polymer consisting of a one-dimensional linear chain, constructed by carboxylate bridging groups, running parallel to the b axis. Neighbouring polymeric chains are further bridged by Ag—C monohapto contacts, resulting in a 2D framework. Fingerprint analysis of the Hirshfeld surfaces show that O...H/H...O hydrogen bonds are responsible for the most significant contacts in the crystal packing of HL and AgL, followed by the H...H and O...C/C...O interactions. The Ag...Ag, Ag...O/O...Ag and Ag...C/C...Ag interactions in the Hirshfeld surface represent 12.1% of the total interactions in the crystal packing. Studies of the interactions of the compounds with human serum albumin (HSA) indicated that both HL and AgL interact with HSA.

Diversifying the energy mix of Bangladesh is becoming indispensable not only to improve its energy security, but also for a more sustainable economic development. This study focused on mapping the wind potential of southern coastal areas of Bangladesh to estimate the wind energy potential, along with the reduction in carbon emissions due to wind energy. Analysis of the carbon footprint was based on the annual energy production (AEP) from the selected low-wind turbine generators (WTGs). The time series-measured and -predicted wind data were incorporated with the high-resolution mesoscale and microscale wind re-source mapping technique at 60, 80, and 100 m above ground level (AGL). Coupling mesoscale and microscale modeling provided reliable mapping results for the commercially exploitable wind resource and was verified by ground-based wind measurement. The results revealed that, among the selected areas, two sites named Charfashion and Monpura have a promising annual mean wind speed of 7.3 m/s at 100 m AGL for energy generation. Different WTGs with ranges of 1–3.3 MW were used to estimate the wind energy generation capacity at different sites in the study area. A WTG with a 1 MW wind energy generation capacity installed at 60 m AGL in the selected site has the potential to produce 2.79 GWh/year of clean energy, reducing 1781.689 tons of CO2 per year, whereas a 3.3 MW WTG at 80 m AGL can produce 18.99 GWh/year of energy, reducing 12,098.54 tons of CO2 per year, and a 1.6 MW WTG at 100 m AGL produces 11.04 GWh/year of energy, cutting 7035.028 tons of CO2 per year. With its reliable scientific and time-tested wind energy estimation method, this research is very important for the development of wind energy in the southern coastal areas of Bangladesh to meet the increasing energy demands through initiating the development of renewable energy to improve the energy security and reduce the carbon emissions of the country.
