An important class of forestry machines is comprised of systems equipped with a mobile platform fitted with an articulated arm carrying a tree processing head. In contrast to conventional industrial manipulators, which are mounted on stationary bases, a mobile manipulator is dynamically coupled with its base. Abstract:
Ponderosa pine delayed mortality, and bark beetle attacks and emergence were monitored on 459 trees for 3 years following one prescribed fire in Idaho and one wildland fire in Montana. Resin flow volume (ml) was measured on 145 fire-injured ponderosa pine 2 and 3 years post-fire. Logistic regression was used to construct two predictive ponderosa pine mortality models, and two predictive bark beetle-attack models. Post-fire delayed tree mortality was greater with the presence of primary bark beetles independent of diameter at breast height (DBH) (cm), and was greater in smaller diameter trees m

Abstract:
Perenniporia phloiophila (Aphyllophorales: Polyporaceae) colonizes the bark of live oak (Quercus virginiana Mill.) and is known only in the southeastern United States in this host. Cultural characteristics and mating systems of P. phloiophila and P. medulla-panis, vegetative incompatibility of P. phloiophila and temperature relationships and decay capacities of vegetative isolates of P. phloiophila, P. ohiensis and P. fraxinophila were investigated. Cultural studies indicate macroscopic and microscopic differences between the four species. Antagonistic hyphal interactions developed between dif

Abstract:
I measured digestible protein consumed by 4 (2 M, 2 F) captive desert mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus crooki). Deer were fed native forage collected from the Belmont Mountains, Arizona. Intake of forage differed significantly (P < 0.05) between sexes in every season. Intake of digestible protein for both sexes was highest in fall, lowest in the spring and summer for males and females, respectively. Significant (P < 0.05) differences of forage biomass were recorded among all vegetation associations and seasons in the Belmont Mountains. The most forage biomass was available in winter, the least i

Maingi, John Kaunda 1964. "Specific gravity and estimated physical properties of Emory oak in southeastern Arizona." Thesis, The University of Arizona, 1992. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/278168.

Full text
Abstract:
Average specific gravity of Emory oak (Quercus emoryi) estimated from 115 increment cores was 0.567 ± 0.011 (95 percent confidence interval). Increment core specific gravity is a predictor of average tree specific gravity. Diameter breast height (dbh) and diameter root collar (drc) were correlated with increment core specific gravity, but the correlations were too low to be valuable for predictive purposes. Estimated physical properties of Emory oak wood were lower than those reported for Gambel oak (Quercus gambelii) but higher than those reported for alligator juniper (Juniperus deppeana).

Abstract:
I investigated the effects of winter prescribed burning on relative abundance and species richness of birds in mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa)-grassland at the Welder Wildlife Foundation Refuge, Texas, from June 1995 to August 1996. Relative abundance (P=0.246) and species richness (P=0.622) of breeding birds were not different, but mourning doves (Zendaida macroura) (P=0.058) and great-tailed grackles (Quiscalus mexicanus) (P=0.084) increased, and black-bellied whistling ducks (Dendrocygna autumnalis) (P=0.040) declined in burned treatments. Relative abundance of wintering birds was greater (P
