Abstract:

Aiming to reduce the cost of production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), it was verified the use of two agro-industrial wastes as alternatives carbon sources for the production of: A- poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate), from olive mill wastewater (2012 campaign; 60% dephenolised). It was possible to used up to 25% v/v in the culture media due to the presence of polyphenolic inhibitors in the matrix. Volatile fatty acid (VFAs) represent the final product of anaerobic acidogenic fermentation and can be exploited as precursors for the production of added-value chemicals. This study is focused on biodegradation of micropollutants using different different enzymatic, photocatalytic and biological process. Various extracellular ligninolytic enzymes were selected and tested for degradation of pharmaceuticals in real wastewater.
