Abstract:
Introduction. The issue of taxation of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine has always been relevant. Because the appropriate level of tax procedures ensures the proper implementation of agricultural producers of their activities. The purpose of the paper is to determine the main features of taxation of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine and to find out what problems arise during the payment of taxes by agricultural producers. Results. The agro-industrial complex of Ukraine includes certain types of agricultural producers, the successful operation of which, first of all, depends on the appropriate level of state support, and in our case – tax support. Currently, the activities of agricultural producers are taxed in accordance with the rules of preferential or simplified taxation (payment of a single tax of the fourth group), but they are also given the right to choose the type of taxation on general terms (income tax). General taxation should be understood as payment of a number of taxes established by the TCU: income tax, value added tax, property tax (land tax), rent for special use of water. As for the simplified taxation system, it applies to taxpayers of the fourth tax groups. Conclusion. Thus, on the basis of theoretical generalization, a description of tax regulation was given as one of the main means used by the state to regulate business activities.

Abstract:
In modern conditions of management, the Russian grain-based subcomplex functions in a new economic situation, this is facilitated by the introduction of international sanctions, Russia’s retaliatory embargo on food imports, the formation of strategic tasks of integration associations of the Eurasian Economic Union. Systemic problems, that arose in the early 1990 years in agro-food complexes and “overgrown” in the new century, remain unresolved. The most important are the low level of profitability of agricultural producers, a large number of intermediaries in the distribution process, the poor condition of the material and technical base of infrastructure enterprises, the underutilization of production capacities, the stagnation of domestic machinery for food, industry and agriculture, and low subsidies to agricultural producers by the state. At present, the form of economic relations between agricultural producers, storage organizations, processing, trade, intermediaries and infrastructure links, firstly, does not promote the achievement of synergy, sustainable management and competitiveness of products, and secondly, it does not ensure proper interaction between production and distribution of functional processes in the implementation of import substitution strategies in the agro-food sector. The solution of these and many other problematic issues in the development of the grain product subcomplex and, consequently, its adaptation to the new economic conditions require the development of a number of theoretical, methodological, analytical and practical provisions of the new “policy” in the field of functioning of agro-industrial subjects.

Abstract:
Todas as empresas agro-comerciais exportam o café verde, e quatro empresas vendem o café torrado também no mercado nacional; ABSTRACT: Co-ordination of coffee quality in the agro-commercial chain: analysis of the case of companies that produce and commercialize coffee in Timor-Leste Coffee is one of the most important products in Timor-Leste economy. Coffee is the main exported product in the agricultural sector and the non-oil sector. Timor-Leste coffee is a well-known organic product in the world, in addition to the fame of the Timor Hybrid (HDT). The objective of this work was to study the coordination of coffee quality in the agro-commercial chain trying to analyze the factors that determine the quality of coffee for the producers and the processing companies. For this we identified the concern of the farmers to produce quality coffee and analyzed the coordination that exists between producers and companies in the agro-industrial chain in order to guarantee the quality of coffee. The place chosen to research was Ermera Municipality, Leteffoho Administrative Post due to the fact that the coffee in this Municipality has the largest plantation area, and coffee production is the main source of income for farmers. The study is based on documentary analysis and questionnaire interviews of 111 coffee producers and 6 companies that buy and market coffee in Timor-Leste. The coffee producers are mostly small in size, produce arabica and robust coffee and control the quality of the cherry coffee harvest and its processing. All companies buy parchment coffee and only one buys cherry coffee. Quality is controlled and the price paid to producers depends on the quality presented. All agro-commercial companies export green coffee, and four companies sell roasted coffee also in the national market.

Mugittu, Vera Florida. "Influencing innovation structures and processes in agro-industries dominated by subsistence producers : an analysis of the rural poultry industry in Tanzania." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/33109.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines innovation structures and processes in rural poultry industry in Tanzania. In 2005, FAO categorised the rural poultry production system in Tanzania under the lowest sector IV with very minimal biosecurity measures and with no commercial orientation. By 2012, a DFID-funded Research into Use (RIU) programme transformed the industry to Sector III which represents a significant commercial orientation and relatively higher bio-security measures. This thesis explains how RIU achieved that. This analysis is presented from three perspectives. First, the path dependence framework is used to present the observed dominance of the traditional poultry production system as a 'lock-in'. The study makes it clear that before RIU, mental frames, resource allocations and how dominant powers behaved reinforced low innovation tendencies. Second, using the agricultural innovation system (AIS) framework and the concepts of 'organisational thinness' and 'fragmentation' (also from path dependency theory), it explains that by making rural producers feel self-sufficient in inputs and knowledge, practices in the traditional system disconnect producers from engaging with other actors. Third, the concepts of 'innovation broker' and of 'exogenous shock' are used to present RIU as an external force or facilitator which instigated a transformation process. RIU facilitated a large number of rural producers to produce for the market, and which was sufficient enough to create a significant demand for inputs and services. This demand triggered new investment and re-organisation in the supply chains. Then, RIU supported actors to solve capacity problems that emerged from the shock. RIU is therefore presented as a flexible 'innovation broker' who played different roles and allocated resources based on circumstances on the ground. The thesis makes several contributions. It presents a case of how a public action can promote innovation in industries dominated by subsistence producers by playing the role of an innovation broker to support a significant number of producers to change routines and interact with other actors. It also shows that rural growth can be achieved through linking rural enterprises with those in the urban instead of supporting rural actors in isolation. It basically makes it clear that African agriculture needs re-organization, so that technological changes can follow as a consequence.

Soares, Luis Lourenco S. S. "Sociotechnical transformation of the livestock market in Tanzania : appropriation of mobile phones by the Maasai and Wasukuma pastoralists." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/31515.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents findings from a qualitative enquiry into the rapid uptake of the mobile phone by pastoral communities in Tanzania and its use as a tool to tackle marketing constraints. The research design involves an interregional comparative analysis of two key production regions: Arusha and the Lake Zone, and two groups of livestock producers (the Maasai pastoralists and Wasukuma agro-pastoralists respectively). Applying the Social Shaping of Technology (SST) perspective from Science and Technology Studies (STS), and in particular the concept of 'appropriation', the study examines the embrace of mobile phones by those producers - who keep livestock under the extensive (pastoralist) and semi-intensive (agro-pastoralist) systems respectively. The thesis examines the extent to which the mobile phone is changing how livestock keepers interact in the livestock market and how this is affecting their livelihoods. The thesis shows that the significance of the mobile phone varies with user groups; for instance, for the Maasai who still lead a nomadic life, the mobile phone is used 'conservatively' to communicate about herd management and to coordinate household affairs in ways that do not substantially disrupt traditional social practices and roles. In contrast, the Wasukuma agro-pastoralists use mobile phones to introduce new processes to support production and marketing, one good example being the strategy used to coordinate transportation of cattle to market. The study findings suggest the extension of the 'appropriation' (Williams, Stewart, & Slack, 2005) conceptualisation by adding the possibility of a spectrum from shallow to extended according to users' role and the context of use. Nevertheless, and in more generic terms, it is possible to say that the mobile phone use did not disrupt some of the traditional practices and trade customs amongst the Maasai, and it has reinforced the innovative behaviour of the Wasukuma. The thesis also examines a parallel initiative whereby aid agencies and public bodies in Tanzania supported the development of the Livestock Information Network and Knowledge System (LINKS), as an ICT platform designed to improve the livestock market by sharing market information. However, studies show that LINKS has not had the intended effect, is not trusted and has not been adopted by many pastoralists. The study shows how the concept of trust, which is key in market dynamics and trade relations, has been reshaped, because the mobile phone has supported informal communications that reinforce traditional methods of policing trust in the market. The thesis contributes to ongoing debates surrounding the conceptualisation of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D). The failure of early ICT4D initiatives was attributed to a failure to address users' specific requirements, due to gaps in the translation process, as well as to socio-political and technical fragilities such as the lack of adequate infrastructure, and a deficient social learning process. The initial reworking of ICT4D highlighted the need to design technology as a specific solution appropriate to particular contexts/user groups. These were seen as finished solutions (corresponding to the idea of a 'technical fix'). Focusing upon 'appropriation', in line with the Social Shaping of Technology - Mark 2 approach - allows scope for a further rethinking of ICT4D which addresses not just design but the active role of users in shaping technological innovation to the context and purposes of communities in developing countries.

Marais, Mark Trevor. "Anthropocentric development evaluation : making people and their humanity the focus of development and its evaluation." Thesis, 1998. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/18124.

Full text
Abstract:
The need for an Anthropocentric Development Evaluation stems from the inability of development theory and praxis, which has informed the past Development Decades, to ameliorate abject poverty experienced by most people throughout the world. Emanating from a hermeneutical-interpretist epistemology the fundamental argument of an Anthropocentric Development Evaluation is that people and the crucial aspects of their humanity should be the central focus in development and evaluation processes. Thus, taking the people-centred approach to development as its starting point, an Anthropocentric Development Evaluation draws attention to the marginalised, particularly the poor, the rural poor, resource-poor primary producers, women and their households. An Anthropocentric Development Evaluation also argues for an actor-orientation to Development Evaluation to emphasise the situational, yet individual behaviour, of people. Alongside such an approach, lies the significance of culture and people's knowledge for development, as well as the limitations, risks, uncertainties and vulnerabilities people face as a consequence of their humanity. These may influence the extent to which they participate in spontaneous or imposed development initiatives. An Anthropocentric Development Evaluation then comparatively assesses three sets of similar, yet different, methodologies using people and aspects of their humanity described above as the focus for that assessment. The methodologies assessed include Action Research, Social Impact Assessment and the Complementary Rural Development Field Tools. The purpose of doing so is to obtain a suitable medium through which to test the focus of an Anthropocentric Development Evaluation in a development setting. The testing of an Anthropocentric Development Evaluation in a development setting is done first by providing an Anthropocentric Development Evaluation of aspects of life of people living in the community of Nyanyadu in KwaZulu-Natal. Social Impact Assessments using the focus of an Anthropocentric Development Evaluation are then made of two development initiatives in respect of the people of Nyanyadu. These two initiatives are a nutrition and social development programme and the national land reforms. The purpose of all these evaluations is to examine the extent to which people and their humanity are seen to be crucial in development processes.

Abstract:
AbstractGroundnut productions have been declining in Mali in spite of several new improved varieties being released, the key problem being inadequacy of the seed supply system. To solve this problem, Kolokani MSP was established in 2012 and reorganized with support from TL III in 2015 to include more stakeholders in the groundnut value chain—farmers particularly women, farmer associations, cooperative societies, seed producers, agro-dealers, grain traders, processors, research and extension. Four new varieties Fleur11, ICGV 86124, ICGV 86015, and ICGV 86024 were supplied to the platform for FPVS and among them two, Fleur 11 and ICGV 86124 were preferred for their high yields and large grain size under farmer conditions. Through training of trainers, the different members of the platform reached 1246 farmers among them 928 women with improved groundnut seed production, aflatoxin management, seed business plans, and small-scale mechanization. A total 47 FPVS, 50 Demonstrations, and three multi-locational variety trials were conducted annually from 2016 to 2018. Kolokani platform have played an important role in groundnut value chain by producing and marketing 85 tons groundnut certified seed of these varieties annually for farmers. This is expected to stop the national productivity decline while improving platform members’ livelihoods and nutrition status.

Abstract:
This chapter investigates the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of indigenous language use in agricultural radio programming in Nigeria within the theoretical frame of diffusion of innovations as well as the theory of planned behaviour. This discourse affirms existing assertions that using indigenous languages in agricultural radio programming can guarantee farmers' access to information on issues of agro materials, utility applications, support accessories, funding, technology, conservation, marketing, and pedagogy. The study concludes that indigenous language use in agricultural radio programming engages agricultural programme producers and farmers through their opinion leaders. It recommends that the use of indigenous languages in agricultural radio programming in Nigeria should continue. However, the country's agro policy should protect all farmers irrespective of cultural or ethnic divides; and specifically cater to the needs of minority ethnic groups of farmers.

Abstract:
Use of microbial inoculants during silage making have drawn interest to silage producers including those who are feeding their livestock on silage produced from by-products (e.g. pulps). Many farmers in the developing countries rely on agro-industrial by-products to feed their livestock, which is limited by the high moisture content of the by-products. This review pertains to issues related to silage production from high moisture plant by-products (e.g. pulps or pomaces), challenges involved in the ensiling of these resources, the use of additives (e.g. microbial additives), and growth performance of the animals that are fed silage from these resources. This information will be helpful to better understand the key roles of silage production from these resources.

The guarantee of a sufficient food supply is one of the challenges in both international and national economic security. Development of world agriculture is impossible without using advanced technologies. Their application in agriculture depends on the security of agricultural producers with highly effective agricultural machinery for which agricultural engineering serves. Agricultural engineering is an important element of the agro-industrial complex of any state providing it with necessary machinery and equipment. One of the important directions of the establishment of food security is the development of agricultural engineering. In this regard, the chapter analyses the current state of the world market of agricultural machinery; develops the methodology of assessment of the competitiveness of agricultural machinery in the domestic market; and elaborates the definition of effective methods of management of logistics costs at the operation of agricultural machinery.

Abstract:
Agricultural marketing plays a crucial role in accelerating the economic development of hill agriculture. An efficient agriculture marketing system is supposed to add to the welfare of producers as well as consumers. It helps in the optimization of resource use, output management, increase in farm incomes, widening of markets, growth of agro-based industry, addition to national income through value addition and employment creation. India is a country with diverse agro-climatic endowments; conditions under which agriculture in the plains and hills present differing scenario. The mountainous region of the country has tremendous potential or cultivation of many high valued added and rare commodities. Among the 34 million people that inhabit the Himalayan region of the country, a large percentage is of the hill farming communities. The hills of India produces a wide range of goods starting from temperate fruits to subtropical fruits but lacks infrastructure facilities due to which farmers do not get better price for their produce. Traditional agriculture is the major and dominant activity in the hill economy, which confronts multiple risks and uncertainty. The hills of Himachal Pradesh also have lots of inherent constraints related to agricultural marketing in terms of inaccessibility and remoteness, marginality and fragility, scattered land holdings, traditional mode of production, low use of modern inputs, transportation difficulty due to the difficult hilly terrain, non-availability of regulated markets, lack of proper market information and absence of post-harvest infrastructure. As we all know that hilly regions are gradually diversified in favour of fruits and vegetables, different flower plants and forest trees production but, due to scarcity of proper transportation, lack of postharvest infrastructure, under-developed supporting institutions, industries, undulating topography, lack of innovative technologies etc. the growth potential of hill agriculture is still remained unexploited. Therefore, strengthening of markets, innovative marketing techniques and boosting on-line trading can help in a big way for solving the problems of marketing in hills.

Abstract:
Analysis of water of rice-growing agricultural complexes use in the Lower Kuban region indicates a tense water management situation that worsens in low-water years. Occurring water supply deficits cause significant damage to all water users and especially to agricultural sectors. The approaches proposed by the authors to improve water supply and water use of irrigation systems are based on the integrated management system for the water resources distribution and productivity of the agro-reclamation complex development. The new management technology is based on two interrelated optimization problems that are solved in the same spatial and temporal format: optimal options for irrigation water supply from water sources to an irrigated field are formed and studied using a dynamic hydraulic model, and productivity models reflect the influence of water supply parameters on crop yields. Hydrodynamic modeling allows you to form reservoirs operating and hydroelectric facilities modes in such a way that, on the one hand, provide command heights at water intakes, and on the other, meet the conflicting interests of water users, including agricultural producers. The development of an acceptable management decision is realized by using the methods of multi-criteria analysis and the theory of trade-offs with a focus on the forecast of crop deficit depending on the water allocation option.

Abstract:
In accordance with the plan for the development of agriculture of the Russian Federation for 2017-2025. The agro-industrial complex needs to achieve a stable growth in agricultural production, including by increasing the sown area for spring wheat and potatoes, using new domestic varieties of seeds and improving cultivation technologies. An important task facing agricultural producers is the import substitution of basic food products with domestic products and the use of Russian-bred seeds instead of foreign ones. Over the past 2019, the area under grain crops increased by 101.2% against the level of 2018, including under spring wheat crops by 34.1%. Due to the cultivation of potatoes on personal and peasant farms, the production area under potatoes decreased by 63.3% compared to 2018.
