Abstract:
N-(n-Butyl)thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) has been reported to reduce ammonia volatilization from surface-applied urea and urea ammonium nitrate (UAN). A new NBPT formulation (ARM U™, 18% NBPT) that contains a polymer allowing for lower application rate of NBPT was evaluated for its efficacy relative to Agrotain® (30% NBPT) and Arborite® (24% NBPT). Trials consisted of (i) a greenhouse study that compared two rates of ARM U-treated urea (360 and 540 mg NBPT kg−1 urea) with Arborite- or Agrotain-treated urea (480 and 600 mg NBPT kg−1 urea, respectively) and (ii) a field study that compared urea

Improving nitrogen (N)-use efficiency of applied urea is critical to maximise its uptake and decrease environmental impact. Two glasshouse-based studies were conducted to investigate the potential of incorporating urea fertiliser with urease inhibitor (N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) or ‘Agrotain’) to enhance fertiliser N uptake efficiency. Topsoil (0–0.075 m, Typic Haplustepts silt loam) from a pasture site near Lincoln, Canterbury, New Zealand, was collected and ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) was grown from seed in standard plant trays maintained at soil moisture contents of 75–80%

Agrotis villenensissp. nov. is described from the Iberian Peninsula. Differential superficial, genital and genetic (barcode) characters from its closest Iberian and European relative species, Agrotis vestigialis (Hufnagel, 1766), are presented. Morphologically, the new species is best characterized in the male genitalia by the shape of the basal vesica and the presence of a median diverticulum and in the female genitalia by its comparatively long appendix bursae. The barcode of A. villenensis differs from those of related species and is assigned a unique BIN.

A new species of Feltia Walker, 1856, Feltia pala Dias, Specht & San Blas sp. nov., is described from the southern Brazilian highlands. The new species is compared with Feltia gypaetina (Guenée, 1852), a neglected similar species which occurs in lowland Brazil and Argentina, and was recently transferred from Agrotis Ochsenheimer, 1816. Feltia gypaetina is redescribed, its taxonomy reviewed. Agrotis pseudoplecta Snellen, 1879 is removed from junior subjective synonymy with Agrotis gypaetina Guenée, 1852 and recognized provisionally as a junior subjective synonym of Noctua lutescens Blanchar

The description of Agrotis colossa as sp. n. became necessary, since the original description has never been published and the manuscript was not found in the Boursin heritage. The original name and designation was accepted, however, the type material (holotype male and single allotype female) was completed with a series of males and females from the recent expeditions. The description of Agrotis rachingeri sp. n. is also given and the DNA results in case of both species. New taxa are illustrated with imagines in colour and male and female genitalia.
