Abstract:
Abstract This thesis provides definitive versions of the poems of Mu iris 6 Gormain, an Ulster poet of the Eighteenth Century. Parallel translations afford the English- language leader an opportunity to apprehend the texts as well as elucidating the meaning of sections of the poems which some Irish-language readers may find difficult. In the textual notes there are further explanations of difficult passages, as well as discussions on the translations. In the notes there are also summaries of the lives of the various patrons for whom the poems were composed. There is a linguistic analysis of the poems, which compares the poet's language with that of other Eighteenth-century poets and which highlights the dialectic features of 6 Gormain's Irish. There are two appendices; one of which is an edited manuscript account of6 Gormain's personal library, the other being a catalogue of the manuscripts which he wrote. Muiris 6 Gormain was probably born between 1700 and 1710. He seems to have lived and worked as hedge school teacher in the counties of Monaghan, Cavan and Armagh before moving to Dublin around the year 1750. While in Dublin, 6 Gormain enjoyed some success as a teacher, translator and scribe. He worked closely with Charles Vallancey on his Grammar of the Iberno-Celtic (1782) and assisted Charlotte Brooke with her Reliques of Irish Poetry (1789). He was emanuensis to the Committe of Antiquities of the Royal Dublin Society and worked closely with the Chevalier Thomas O'Gorman and Charles O'Connor of Bel nag are. He died in Dublin in 1794. As an occasional poet, 6 Gormain mostly wrote panegyric poems on emminent members of the Anglo-Irish ascendancy and on Gaelic Catholic priests. While these poems may not always be attractive to the modem reader, they may be compared favourably, to an extent, with earlier Classical Irish Poetry (1200- c.1650).

Abstract:
The primary objective of this thesis is to provide an objective critical assessment of the life and works of End 6 Muirgheasa (Henry Morris). 6 Muirgheasa was among the most prolific Irish Language folklorists of his time. His publications transcended many disciplines including antiquities, archaeology, philology and musicology. Influenced in his youth by leading contemporary scholars and folklorists including Joseph H. Lloyd and Dr Douglas Hyde, he published collections of folksongs and folk literature not to mention many articles relating to antiquities and archaeology. His publications demonstrate not only his zeal and dedication, but his extensive knowledge of manuscript and oral sources. After working his way through the primary education system as a monitor or assistant teacher, he studied for one year at St Patrick's Teacher Training College in Dublin. His legacy has ensured the preservation and publication of much of the surviving literary tradition of Gaelic Ulster. This thesis attempts to evaluate the value of his work as well as the motives which sustained 6 Muirgheasa's lifelong pursuit to collect and publish the poetry and literary gems of Ulster. Chapter 1 will discuss and contextualise his life with special reference to those who Influenced him during his youth including J.H. Lloyd and Douglas Hyde. Chapter 2 is concerned with his published works and offers a fresh appraisal of their merit in light of the various published review articles which evaluated their scholarly contribution. Chapter 3 will evaluate the various folklore collection methodologies employed by 6 Muirgheasa while Chapter 4 focuses on the contribution of those who assisted him in his collecting endeavours. Chapter 5 offers an overview and evaluation of his attempts to collect Irish manuscripts. Chapter 6 attempts to evaluate the methods employed by 6 Muirgheasa while editing texts. The final chapter, Chapter 7, will evaluate and contextualise his attempts to sanitise the material he edited.

Chaidh sùil mhionaideach a thoirt air a' cheangal eadar cànain agus cultar ann am foghlam tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig (FMG), a rèir dàta a thogadh ann an naoi diofar sgoiltean ann an sgìrean eadar-dhealaichte ann an Alba, le fòcas sònraichte air neartan agus duilgheadasan a thaobh fios a-steach do chloinn ann am FMG, agus mar a dh'fhaodas buaidh a bhith aig sin air comasan agus seasamhan cànanach nan sgoilearan. Chumadh agallamhan leth-structarail ri 80 sgoilear (eadar BS 5 agus AS 2), 32 phàrant agus 16 luchd-teagaisg. Tro sgrùdadh nan agallamhan rinneadh measadh air comasan cànain na cloinne, air am misneachd a thaobh na Gàidhlig, an cuid sheasamhan mu choinneimh na cànain agus air an tuigse air eachdraidh agus cultar na Gàidhlig. Chaidh ceist eile a chumail ann am fòcas ceangailte ris gach puing, agus b' i cò às a thàinig am fiosrachadh a bh' aig a' chloinn: dè an seòrsa fios a-steach a fhuair iad tro FhMG agus dè thàinig bhon dachaigh fhèin. Dh'obraicheadh a-mach na ceanglaichean eadar am fios a-steach sin agus am fios a-mach a fhuaireadh, .i. eòlas na cloinne air na cuspairean ainmichte. Abstract:
This thesis is a postcolonial study of the work of Padraic O Conaire. From the great surge of the Cultural Renaissance to the reconsolidating of conservative forces under the Free State, O Conaire's career encapsulates the defining period of modern Ireland. As the Introduction discusses, this thesis sites his work centrally in that revolutionary era, with O Conaire influenced by the great writers of European Realism who made a profound critique of their own societies with their central focus on the lived experience of the individual. Instead of the modern alienation of his characters, or the radicalism of the author's own politics, both of which comprise the most prominent strands in his critical portrayal to date, O Conaire is seen to make that necessary synthesis between the psychological and the political aspects as a creative writer. Though rooted in the historical experience of the race, the anti-authoritarian project of Postcolonialism is defined as an ongoing challenge in an age of global capitalism and the working through of the psycho-cultural effects of colonization. Noting their emphasis on the biographical element, the Literature Review examines the main contemporary full-length critical studies of 6 Conaire: P6.draic 6 Conaire - Deorai (1994) by Padraigin Riggs which investigates the themes of alienation and exile in the life and the work; Padraic 6 Conaire - Sceal a Bheatha (1995) by Eibhlin Ni Chionnaith which unearths a wealth of biographical information to finally create a portrait of a bohemian Romantic; and Reabhloid Phadraic Ui Chonaire (2007) by Aindrias O Cathasaigh, which directs its attention on O Conaire's journalism and his articulation of a revolutionary socialism; and Saoirse Anama Ui Chonaire (1984) by Tomas O Broin's which is a monograph on O Conaire's one novel Deoraiocht and argues for its socialist expressionism based on the author's lived experience. Three significant short studies out of the wide range of essays on the writer are then reviewed: 'Padraic O Conaire' by Seosamh Mac Grianna (1936) which portrays O Conaire as a heroic literary pioneer for all his faults, 'Padraic 6 Conaire agus Cearta an Duine' by Declan Kiberd (1983) which emphasizes his eccentric individualism and his socialism, and 'An tOrsceal Readach III' by Alan Titley (1991) which claims a special kind of literary realism for Deoraiocht. The remaining works of the Literature Review develop and deepen the postcolonial basis of this thesis, being significant studies in the international and in the Irish context: The Colonizer and the Colonized by the Tunisian writer AlbeIt Memmi, which is a piercing sociological and psychological exposure of the phenomenon of colonization; Tren bhFearann Breac - an Dilaithriu Culruir agus Nualitriocht na Gaeilge Ie Mairin Nic Eoin which applies a wide range of postcolonial theorizing to modern Irish language literature; and 'Decolonizing the Mind: Language and Literature in Ireland' by Gearoid Denvir which is a polemical account of the psycho-cultural aspect of colonization and also treats of the marginalization of modern Irish language and literature. The Review includes a brief examination of the work which inspired the title of Denvir's essay, namely Decolonising the Mind: The Politics of Language in African Literature by Ngugi wa Thiong'o. The first chapter of this thesis discusses Deoraiocht as a powerful anti -colonial novel, a monologue of rebellion located in the heart of empire. The second chapter examines important statements from O Conaire's journalistic output concerning the role of the writer in society, and about Irish society itself in the troubled period from 1917-1921, in a critical context that compares the basic radicalism of the modern Russian writer with the Gaelic literary tradition. The third chapter considers O Conaire's five plays, from their original inspiration in Douglas Hyde's plays about traditional Gaeltacht society, to their development of the comic hero of European theatre. The selection of his short stories in the fourth chapter reflects the arc of O Conaire's opus, from Paidin Mhaire, the tragic victim of the colonial system, to the subversive comedy of Fearfeasa Mac Feasa with his challenge to conventional officialdom. The Conclusion looks forward as well as back in that O Conaire as a postcolonial writer straddled the official British colony founded on political, social and economic repression and the official Free State with its emerging conservative, bourgeois and religious ethos. Just like the great modernist pioneer in Irish writing in English, James Joyce, who was born in the same month as O Conaire, his own work is seen to be intimately bound up with the project of decolonization and with the realization of the individual as the embodiment of a changed society. Also, like the dispossessed Gaelic poet of the seventeenth century and the modern underground writer of the Soviet State, O Conaire's work is shown as retaining from beginning to end the integrity of the outsider committed to the truth of individual expression against the ideological control of the dominant institutions of pre- and post-imperial Irish society. If we Irish want the genuine freedom that O Conaire advocated, then we can discover the hidden foundations of our contemporary society in his work, in which there is a truthful reflection of, and liberating insight into, the period that formed today's Ireland.

Abstract:

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background: The prevalence of hyperuricemia increased rapidly in recent years and has closely interdependent relationship with other metabolic disorders. Conventional medication drugs are usually associated with many side effects. About 75 to 80% of the world population use herbal medicines, mainly in developing countries, for primary health care because of their better acceptability with human body and lesser side effects. This study aimed to examine the effect of hyperuricemia herbs drink on the quality of life. Subjects and Method: A quasi experiment with no control group was carried out at Hortus Medicus clinic, Tawangmangu, Central Java. A sample of 30 hyperuricemia patients (blood uric acid 7-10 mg/dl) was selected for this study. The study subjects consume hyperuricemia herbs drink for 28 days. The dependent variable was quality of life. The independent variables were hyperuricemia herbs drink consumption. Data on quality of life were measured by Short Form-36 (SF-36). Mean difference of quality of life score before and after intervention were analyzed by independent t test. Results: Quality of life score after consuming hypercuremia herbs drink for 28 days (Mean= 80.37; SD=11.89) was higher than before (Mean= 76.20; SD= 15.08), and it was statistically significant (p= 0.001). There was no difference of quality of life score (physical function, physical role, mental health social function, and emotional role dimensions) before and after therapy. Conclusion: Hyperuricemia herbs drink for 28 days is effective to improve quality of life. Keywords: hyperurisemia herbs drink, traditional medicine, quality of life Correspondence: Agus Triyono. Abstract:
