Abstract:
One of the books I would love to write, but probably never will, is ahistory of the European exterior, a complement to Mario Praz’s 1963 monograph on the European interior, La filosofia dell’arredamento, the first version of which had appeared in 1945. Praz covers interiors from Greek and Roman Antiquity up to English Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau, mainly through paintings, watercolors and engravings. These images reflect the domestic bliss of an elite who could afford this happiness and afford to commission artists to depict it. Despite the double layer of mediation—this being Praz’s reading of images that by themselves offer a filtered interpretation of an idealized, protected daily life in the interiors of a privileged class—the book manages to transmit the sense of a bygone life between walls.

Abstract:
A 51-year-old diabetic woman was referred to our unit with ahistory of increasing pain in her right thigh and gait disturbance,10 days following surgery for treatment of stress urinary incontinencewith a transobturator tape. Examination elicited a tenderright thigh associated with swelling and erythema. Inspection ofthe vagina revealed an exposed mesh through the vaginal erosion.Plain radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging revealed largethigh abscesses suggestive of gas gangrene from the pelvis to thecalf. The mesh was completely removed; extensile incisions, aswell as aggressive debridement of all necrotic tissue in the thighand calf, were performed. A diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis withgas extending to the lower leg level was confirmed. After meshremoval, abscess drainage and debridement, the patient recoveredwith antibiotics and daily wound care. Three months afterthe operation, the patient showed no recurrence of the infection.

Abstract:
This paper intends to explore the relationship between history and fiction in the novel AHistory of the World in 10 1⁄2 Chapters (1989) by the British writer Julian Barnes in order to indicate how these two notions have been commingled in different periods. In this regard, the focus of the current study is to investigate the above-mentioned novel, and to demonstrate the invalidity of historical records, their subjectivity, and how throughout history myths have become realities, with an eye on New Historicism. By the end of this study, its reader’s attitude towards history and what s/he is presented with as fact and truth is hoped to change, not to readily accept historical records and stories as absolute truths, rather to consider them one possible history among many others that might have been marginalized and suppressed by a dominant ideology.

Abstract:
Weed control is an important component of the production cost of sugarcane thus, it should be performed in a rational manner. The history of agriculture is rich i examples that confirm the integrated weed management(IWM) strategy as the most sustainable. An experiment comparing herbicides herbicides-tillage, tillage, and band control against whole area control was conductedin a field with ahistory ofhigh infestations of purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.). Pyrazosulfuron-etil preemergence to the crop folIowed by 2,4-D postemergence to the crop showed a population of the weed similar to the glyphosate/tillage treatment as well as to the tillage/tillage treatment, in alI cases, significantly lower than the weedy check. Weed control over the whole area was equivalent to weed control in bands of 25 cm to each side of the crop rows in terms of crop yield. Other alternatives that might be used as part of an integrated weed management in conjunction with the best treatments found in this experiment are discussed.

Abstract:
The systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by theformation of autoantibodies that attack various organ systems. Patients with SLE who presentwith pleural effusion are so rare that they are often not diagnosed early. Whereas with earlydiagnosis and proper management, the rate of recurrence and complications can decrease, thequality of life for people with SLE will also be better. This research is descriptive qualitativeresearch with a case study approach. This case report discusses a young woman who presentedwith respiratory failure resulting from a massive pleural effusion. The patient is known to have ahistory of chronic hematological disorders in the form of thrombocytopenia. During treatment, the patient developed psychiatric disorders in the form of delirium and hallucinations. The patientwas then diagnosed as SLE based on the 2018 EULAR / ACR criteria with the degree of disease activity classified as severe. The patient responded well to steroid induction therapy, azathioprine, and hydroxychloroquine. It was concluded that the diagnosis of SLE should beconsidered in cases of pleural effusion with a history of chronic thrombocytopenia and psychiatricdisorders. Early and appropriate management of severe SLE will provide a good prognosis. Keywords: systemic lupus erythematosus; respiratory failure; pleural effusion; neuropsychiatricSLE

Abstract:
This chapter demonstrates that Friedrich Nietzsche’s Genealogy of Morals argues that, rather than being ahistoric, moral concepts are inherently historical. Focusing on its first essay, this chapter shows that Nietzsche’s approach (1) undercut the histories and thus justifications underpinning the Christian and Kantian frameworks, (2) demonstrates that the moral categories historically used in Western thinking are semiotically heterogeneous, and (3) shows that the meaning of moral concepts generally and ‘evil’ specifically are rooted in dynamic semiotic relations that are determined socially by heterogeneous and ever-changing power relations. ‘Evil’ as a moral category is not, then, an objective, ahistoric category, but one borne from a particular worldview and semiotic system. In turn, this shows that the meaning of this concept is dependent upon changing, heterogeneous, power relations manifested through pre-personal, socio-historical interactions and relations.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the response that Derrida gives in the Politics of Friendship to the question of what grounds politics. Reconstructing and developing Derrida’s critical engagement with Schmitt’s friend/enemy distinction, the chapter identifies the question of language, as key to Derrida’s critique of Schmitt. With this, Derrida’s re-affirms the fundamental importance of his earlier concept of différance for understanding the ground of politics. Against traditional ahistoric substantial senses of “ground”, the chapter turns to Derrida’s innovative alternative, showing how he maintains that all politics is premised on a phantasmatic fictional story or discursive ground that generates, binds, and structures politics. Instead of its fictional nature rendering it unimportant, Derrida claims that this fiction is the necessary condition of politics. Thus the chapter shows the necessary and foundational role that fictions play in Derrida’s notion of politics, a theme that binds different texts within Derrida’s oeuvre.

Abstract:
This chapter aims to demystify sectarian identity by critically examining some of the key debates and false binaries that dominate discussions of ‘sectarianism’. These include several impractical dichotomies: religion and politics; unity and division; primordialism and instrumentalism; top-down and bottom-up drivers; the role of foreign powers versus local agency. The chapter demonstrates the impossibility of these binaries and their incompatibility with the inherently multidimensional nature of sectarian dynamics. Firstly, the role of religious beliefs and doctrinal differences in sectarian dynamics will be examined. It will be argued that, like inter-group relations generally, sectarian relations are animated by a broad nexus of factors that cannot be reduced to doctrinal difference. The chapter then interrogates the dichotomization of sectarian conflict and sectarian coexistence – a binary that obscures the more common reality of sectarian irrelevance. This highlights the importance of context and of having a sufficiently broad historical scope when considering sectarian dynamics. Acontextual and ahistoric accounts routinely exaggerate the relevance/irrelevance of sectarian identity. Finally, the chapter turns to the dichotomization of top-down and bottom-up drivers and the role of foreign powers versus local agency. It will be argued that circularity not dichotomization is the better way of understanding such binaries.

Abstract:
The relationship of lupus anticoagulants (LA's) to antibodies (IgG and IgM) to cardiolipin (CL), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylinositol (PI) and phosphatidic acid (PA), detected by an enzyme linked immunoassay, was examined in a series of 100 patients with well characterized LA's. 73% of patients demonstrated antibodies to one or more phospholipids; 62% were positive for CL, 57% were positive for PS, 57% were positive for PI, and 51% were positive for PA. Of the samples with antibodies to phospholipid, 32% had IgG type antibody only, 16% had IgMonly, and 52% had both IgG and IgM antibodies. Of the 100 patients,19% had a history of thrombosis, 8% had ahistory of spontaneous abortion, and 6% had a history of seizure disorder. These complications occurred in the presence (61%) and absence (39%) of detectable phospholipid antibodies. Drug-related LA's were observed in 34 patients; of these 74% were positivefor antiphospholipid antibodies and 24% hada history of thrombosis. The distribution of antibody types with drug-related LA's was similarto the overall group, with 40% IgG only, 8%IgM only and 52% both IgG and IgM These findings indicate that IgG and IgM antibodies to phospholipid are not observed in all patients with lupus anticoagulants, that thrombosis does occur in this population in the absence of detectable antibodies to phospholipid and that drug-related LA's are associated with thrombosis. Furthermore, there appeared to be little relationship between the degree of prolongation of the aPTT and the titer of anti-phospholipid antibody.
