Abstract:
The changes of globalization are forcing educational systems of developing countries to mimic the curricula, teaching methods and assessment tests of highly industrialized nations. Simply copying a curriculum built for a specific culture, however, may not be effective in another culture as mathematics is a product of the culture and socioeconomic system of a particular country. Mathematics teaching that is founded on and built upon the local cultural knowledge and/or the cognitive background can be more effective and will yield more opportunities to marginalized groups. Inclusion of ethnomathematics (everyday mathematics) in the curriculum helps to situate mathematics in real-world contexts. This article identifies some “everyday mathematics” from two southern states of India and explores how it can enrich classroom practices. School mathematics rooted in one’s culture, practices and history could reorient the whole context of mathematics education and allow the learner to experience mathematics as a human rather than an abstract activity. Les changements apportés par la mondialisation ont forcé les systèmes d'enseignement des pays en voie de développement à imiter les programmes d'études, les méthodes d'enseignement et d'évaluation des pays déjà industrialisés. Copier tout simplement un programme d'études édifié pour une culture particulière pourrait le rendre inefficace dans une autre culture. Cela arrive surtout dans le cas des mathématiques qui sont le produit de la culture et du système socio-économique propres à ce pays. Un enseignement des mathématiques qui est fondé et bâti sur la connaissance culturelle locale et/ou sur le fond cognitif pourra être plus efficace et procurera plus de chances aux groupes marginalisés. . L'inclusion dans le programme d'études les ethno-mathématiques (mathématiques du peuple) permet de situer les mathématiques dans le contexte du monde réel. Cet article identifie quelques formes de mathématiques du peuple connues dans deux états au Sud de l'Inde et examine comment les utiliser pour enrichir les pratiques d'enseignement. Les mathématiques scolaires ayant leurs racines dans la culture, dans les pratiques et dans l'histoire d'un peuple peut réorienter tout le contexte de l'enseignement des mathématiques et permettre l'apprenant à expérimenter les mathématiques comme une activité plutôt humaine qu'abstraite.

Abstract:
Cette thèse de doctorat porte sur les pratiques religieuses des Sora, un groupe tribal du centre-est de l'Inde parlant une langue austro-asiatique. Cette étude s'est principalement déroulée chez les Sora du district de Srikakulam en Andhra Pradesh, lesquels ont été fort peu étudiés en comparaison de ceux d'Orissa. Les Sora, qui se démarquent du point de vue linguistique des autres groupes locaux, ne constituent en aucun cas une population totalement isolée de la société des castes. En ce qui concerne leurs pratiques rituelles, ils présentent certains traits qui leur sont propres mais on observe aussi de nombreux points de rencontre avec la religion dominante dont certains se revendiquent d'ailleurs. La dialectique de l'emprunt et du rejet se décline en fait différemment au sein d'un même groupe. Parmi les Sora des villages étudiés, trois formes d'affiliation religieuse coexistent. Certains se réclament d'une grande religion: l'hindouisme ou le christianisme. D'autres adhèrent à un culte qui leur est propre, nommé "Matharvanam", et opposent leurs pratiques rituelles à celles des castes comme à celles des Sora hindous et chrétiens. Ces derniers rendent un culte à une écriture inventée dans les années 1930 pour transcrire leur langue. Ce travail cherche à rendre compte d'un paysage religieux complexe, où les pratiques rituelles observées sont loin d'être homogènes - et qu'on ne saurait dès lors opposer, ou comparer en bloc, à celles d'autres groupes sociaux, castes de statut divers ou tribus-, en prenant en compte les affiliations religieuses revendiquées, qui parfois correspondent peu aux pratiques rituelles effectives
This Ph. D deals with religious practices of the Soras, a tribal group from the centre-east of India who speak an Austro-asiatic language. The fieldwork for this study took place mainly among the Soras from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, who have not been throuroughly studied comparatively to those from Orissa. The Soars, who differ from other local groups according to their language, are not entirely isolated from caste society. Concerning their rituals, we observed several specific traits but also many points of encounter whit Hinduism, to which many asserted their belonging. In fact, the dialectic of loan and rejection takes different forms for the same group. Indeed, among the Soras from the villages studied, three religious affiliations coexist. Some villagers claim to be Hindu or Christian. Others have their own religion - called "Matharvanam" - and oppose their religious practices to those of their caste neighbours as well as those of other Soras. They worship a script invented in the 1930's used to transcribe the Sora language. This study aims to analyzea complex religious landscape, where ritual practices are far from being homogeneous, taking into account religious affiliation assertions, which sometimes do not correspond to the actual ritual practices

Abstract:
La présente thèse a pour objet l'analyse des mutations de l'hindouisme a la Martinique, de son arrivée dans la seconde moitié du xixe siècle à nos jours. Cette recherche concerne donc l'appréciation des continuités et changements d'une religion transplantée de l'inde en société créole, c'est-a-dire dans un contexte caractérise par des processus d'assimilation, d'agglutination, de croisement et de synthèse de traits culturels issus de groupes ethniques divers. Mais s'intéresser a la religion, c'est avant tout se préoccuper des hommes qui la véhiculent. L'histoire de l'hindouisme a la Martinique ne saurait donc être restituée sans prendre en compte l'évolution de la communauté d'origine indienne et l'histoire de ses relations avec la société martiniquaise globale. Nous pensons que c'est en situant les indiens et leurs descendants dans la société que nous devons procéder. Car ils sont. Depuis leur arrivée, en interaction constante avec elle. Même lorsqu'elle les rejette, elle les transforment et ils l'influencent. Il s'agira donc, pour résumer, d'évaluer l'acculturation que subirent les hindous en passant d'une société a une autre, d'apprécier les phénomènes de résistance, d'adaptation, de composition ou de recomposition culturelle a l'œuvre dans la communauté, aux fins de déceler et d'analyser les processus de permanence, de déperdition, de sélection, d'emprunt et de réinterprétation affectant ta religion en question. This study is meant to analyse the transformations in hinduism in martinique, from its beginning in the second half on the 19th century to the present day. This research is based on change and continuity in hinduism transplanted from india into a creole society. That is to say in a context caracterise by the process of assimilation, mixing and the synthesis of cultural traits from different ethnic groups. But it goes without saying that to study religion one must study the people who make up this religion. The history of hinduism in martinique cannot be put into prospective without taking into account the evolution ot the indian community and the relationship with the people already in martinique globaly. As since the indian arrival, they has been a constant interaction with the host society. Even when the indian community is rejected, the host community transformes them, and in retour the indians influence the host community. To sume up, this study is meant to evaluate the aculturation that the hindus had to under go in their path from one society to the other, to take into account the phenomenon of resistance and their cultural adaptability in their everyday life in the community. In order to find and to analyse the process of continuity, loss, selection, borrowing and reinterpretation working on the religion in question
