Machining using spark is one of the widely used advanced machining methods. Surface quality and machining productivity are the two most important parameters[1]. The majority of optimization studies are in single-objective form[10][14]. However, there have also been some studies on the basis of multi-objective optimization problem[10][14]. SKD11 steel is a steel grade according to Japan's JIS standard (AISI standard named D2; DIN standard named 2379), widely used in cold fabrication with high wear resistance characteristics, good tempering permeability. Evaluating the mechanical integrity and corrosion performance of welded joints is vital to replace the malfunctioning parts in human body. This research aims to study the effect of Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) process on the corrosion behavior of austenitic stainless steel (AISI 316L) weldments in physiological solution. ER316L filler wire is used to weld thin sheets of 2mm to butt joint configuration. Optical microscopy and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are used to study the microstructural evolution in base metal (BM), heat affected zone (HAZ) and weld metal (WM). For determining the phase

Friction welding is a metal connection that occurs due to heat caused by pressure/friction force due to rotation of metal one to other metal axis. In addition, spindle shaft with this process can minimize the shift axis of the welded material. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of variation of rotation speed and wrought time on mechanical properties (tensile strength, flexural and hardness) and microstructure of AISI 304L Stainless Steel pipe of friction welding. Abstract:
Abstract The effect of long term pre-exposure on the corrosion fatigue crack growth rates of low alloy steels has been studied in order to provide guidance on the reliability of short term testing. Tests were conducted in aerated 3.5% NaCl at a potential of -1100 mV(SCE) using a sinusoidal loading wave with a stress ratio of 0.25 and a frequency of 0.167 Hz. Pre-exposure of AISI 4340 for 21 weeks enhanced the crack growth rates by up to a factor of 7 relative to data from conventional tests which lasted about 4 weeks. Pre-exposure of 3.5% Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel for 55 weeks increased the corrosion f

In oil exploitation, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and dissolved salts (mainly sodium chloride) can cause severe substantial corrosion to the pipelines. Additives such as corrosion inhibitors are one of the most viable solutions for dealing with corrosion problems arising from different process conditions in oil and gas production [1]. Typically, film former inhibitors are used on a large scale, and aliphatic diamines or imidazolines with long carbon chains are examples of effectiveness [2]. Corrosion inhibitors are widely used to mitigate the corrosion process of carbon steel in acidic media. However, there is a growing concern about the toxicity, biodegradability, and bioaccumulation of corrosion inhibitors released into the environment. The need for environmental preservation requires the immediate replacement of toxic inhibitors with less aggressive ones. Extracts from plants and other natural wastes became interesting candidates for potential green corrosion inhibitors. The use of natural products as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel, mainly in acidic environments, has be

CAD/CAM systems require technical data to model the tool and machined workpiece behavior during the cutting process. The large varieties of machining input data prevent exhaustive studies for each machining operation. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the most influent parameters (ie. rake angle, cutting speed and hone radius) on cutting force during the milling process in order to limit experiment testing while providing accurate data for the CAD/CAM requirement.
