Abstract:
In Japan, there are many kinds of dōs. The term has diverse and profound meanings, making it a challenge to define. Simply speaking, dō is a way for people to train the spirit by following specific practices, with the purpose of mastering life. Prominent examples of dōs include chadō / sadō (〔 茶 道 〕 so-called “tea ceremony”), kadō (〔 華 道 〕 so-called “flower arrangement”), shodō (calligraphy), and bushidō (the ethical code of the samurai). There are also sport practices such as jūdō (judo), kendō (kendo) and aikidō (aikido), all of which are also connected with the culture of dō.

Abstract:
Turkinhoito on tärkeä osa nautojen luonnollista käyttäytymistä.

Abstract:
Aikido as a form of martial arts has its own unique characteristics both in term of tradition and communication behavior that applied by its students. The study is aimed to analyze the practitioners’ nonverbal communication behaviors in Bandung Aiki Jutsu nonaffiliated Aikido school. The study focused on three matters related to the communication phenomena, and they are; nonverbal communication pattern, meanings of nonverbal symbols comprehended by the practitioners, and the practitioners’ social construction as well as the school. The author employed a qualitative approach in the tradition of phenomenology. Then, in collecting the data, the author employed an emic approach in order to have an in-depth interview and a participation observation. Besides, documentation study is used to support the data findings. The result of the study shown that there are two motives that appear behind the practitioners interest toward Bandung Aiki Jutsu Aikido school, they are internal aikidoka motive and external aikidoka motive. Besides, the study pointed out that the nonverbal symbols in the Aikido school are apreciated by the Aikido practitioners as symbols of self harmony, respect, motivation, togetherness, self identity, self confidence, and responsibility The applied nonverbal symbols is a form of appreciation and acculturation towards Japanese culture. Therefore, the Japanese culture can be synchronized to local culture that has been obtained by the Aikido practitioners in Bandung Aiki Jutsu. Moreover, the nonverbal symbols that applied by the Aikido practitioners appear to have subsitution, complementary, and accentualization function.Key words: Aikido, Bandung Aiki Jutsu, Nonverbal Communication

Abstract:
This research was conducted to explore the relationship between self-actualization and the Japanese martial art of Aikido. Time spent in active practice of Aikido served as the predictor variable and the quasi-experimental intervention. The Personal Orientation Dimensions served as the measuring instrument foe self- actualization. The 13 scale scores were the dependent variables. Of the most significant results, six scales were chosen to form the basis for the structured interview. The interview was conducted with five practicing Black Belt Aikidoists. The research subjects were all Aikido students from four different schools with a common lineage. Later efforts to expend outside the lineage were not productive. There were three groups in this research. Those who were tested at least once, those who were tested twice, and the five selected Aikido Black Belts for the interview. The first group was the Total Group and consisted of all respondents and the scores of the first sampling of the Test-Retest Group (n=48, 24 females, 24 males). Sixteen respondents were between 18 and 30 years old, 25 between 31 and 45, and 7 were 46 years old and above. Average months practicing Aikido was 32.95 with an average of 3.58 times per week and 4.6 hours per week. A Multiple Regression showed significant positive changes in four scales at the p<.01 level and six scales showed positive directional change at the p<.05 level. This gives some support to the hypothesis that the active practice of Aikido may contribute to self-actualization over time. The Analysis of Variance performed on the dependent means of the Test-Retest Group produced one positive direction for one scale p<.05, n=ll. This was not considered significant for this study. The interviews focused on the ccntent of six of the most significant scales and confirmed the quantitative findings. Additional information about the effects of Aikido upon students based on the interviews is presented. The study provides additional support for the use of Eastern self-actualization technology with Western students. Possibilities for use include school systems, therapist training, and promoting the general mental health of the population.

Abstract:
This research is concerned with IS practice and how that practice can be improved through the novel notion of systems harmony. It draws on Peter Checkland's work to explore the principles and practice of aikido, the Japanese 'art of harmony'. The thesis investigates systems harmony in three stages. Firstly, it looks at aikido, to uncover its underlying philosophical foundations and techniques of harmonisation. The empirical focus of this phase concentrates primarily on the lived experiences of aikido practitioners. The key theoretical output from this stage is a conceptual model, the AikiSys model, which describes the complex interconnected web of factors that contribute to the dynamic emergence of harmony within a martial encounter. Next, the AikiSys model is used to fonn the basis of a practical sense-making mechanism, the information Systems Harmonisation (ISH) framework. This framework enables the transfer of the essentially personal constructs of aikido into the IS domain. This conceptual linking is realised by associating elements of the core AikiSys model to analogous concepts and techniques operating within IS practice. The final stage of the research uses the ISH framework in two modes - one diagnostic and retrospective, the other guiding and proactive - to inquire into IS practice. Four case studies are presented to reveal the new perspectives offered by the ISH framework. The study introduces a framework that provides a way of engaging with IS situations in an action-oriented fashion. This framework includes iteration between hard and soft approaches and makes specific reference to non-technical manifestations of harmony such as respect, trust, multiple-perspectives, elegance, emergence, self-organisation, training and awareness. The research suggests that these elements, far from being peripheral, are in fact crucial to successful real-world IS practice.

Abstract:
This research has, as its object of study, the techniques, principles and philosophy of Japanese martial art called Aikido, in a dialogue with principles and methods developed by Meyerhold, Rudolf Laban, Grotowski and Eugenio Barba, in order to create procedures that provide assistance to the actord body preparation and their artistic creation. We search, therefore, the scenic body, its movement and its continuing (re) organization. This work was based on bibliographic research and frequency in Aikido training, from where important elements were extracted to establish the foundations that enabled the connection between this martial art and the actor´s work. The practice consisted of exercises that aimed at the search of ways of transposition from the daily-body to the scenic body. In these trainings concepts and practices were developed aiming at body self-knowledge, preparation for the scene and the creation of extra-daily physical actions anchored in the practice of Aikido. The main practical result was the preparation of the play \"Separação de Corpos\", a monologue composed of physical actions created from the studied techniques during the training and that has as character a woman who was abandoned by his lover and seeks to understand her situation and overcome the loss, starting a new life in a different way. The presence of a tool such as Aikido, configured to be a great benefit to the work of the actor on stage, since it helps flexibility of the body on stage, encouraging concentration in the act of play as well.

Abstract:
What is presented in this thesis concerns a part of my career as an actress and drama teacher, which was permeated by contributions of aikido and capoeira. These two martial arts from different cultural backgrounds, Japanese and African-Brazilian, which have at their core very rich technical and artistic elements, provided me with sufficient material to answer some questions about the training of the actor, from the preparation for the scene to the creation of a dramaturgy constructed in practice. This thesis therefore deals with this investigation that began with my practice in these martial arts and continued with a group of actors who voluntarily proposed to try the procedures developed during the doctoral process. The entire path taken by us in this research was built based upon the training aimed at the individual and relational improvement with the search for self-knowledge, broadening repertoire, enhancement of the state of readiness and presence, stimulation of creativity and availability body for improvisation and for game. In this work, when we treat the body, we refer to the whole psychophysical set from the sensory motor apparatus to the emotions, ideas and memories, so that all this information became part of this scenic research. Having as reference this complex body conjunct, we conceived during the training a scenic result that aimed at presenting what was developed by me and by the actors during our practice. In order to help the creation of the dramaturgy, we used as a basis the play \"Hamlet\", by William Shakespeare, whose circumstances and characters acted as stimuli to the creation of the actors. Thus, the scenic work built by us was the result of a dialogue between the extracted elements of aikido and capoeira and some Hamlet scenes. Finally, we intend in this thesis to show how we used aikido and capoeira as resources to transform the actor\'s everyday body into a scenic body, so that their qualities were enhanced and some limits overcome, respecting the characteristics of each one.
