Ejector pneumatic pistols such as the GAV-167 and Voylet PS-5 used for the application of anticorrosive materials with large fillers. Pneumatic pistols have a receiving chamber for material input, an ejector with an air nozzle, a mixing chamber and a spray nozzle. When compressed air supplied through the ejector, a vacuum created in the receiving chamber. The research found that the vacuum pressure in the receiving chamber increased with an increase in the spray pressure, the size of the spray nozzle and a decrease in the length of the receiving chamber. This study aimed to test the incidence of ironic performance errors in elite air-pistol shooters. Previous research has revealed that, when shooters are anxious, avoidant instructions can cause ironic performance breakdown, especially in the unintended direction. Fifty-seven experienced air-pistol shooters were given specific instructions not to shoot to a certain part of a target, under low- and high-anxiety conditions, respectively. Results demonstrated that, when instructed not to shoot in a specific direction, anxious shooters did so a significant number of times. Interestingly, there was

Abstract The ability to stabilize the gun, a crucial factor for performance in air pistol Olympic shooting, is thought to be strongly related to the muscular work of the shooter´s shoulder and forearm. In this paper, we present a new compact hydraulic linear actuator. The concept is developed to change the rolling piston diameter of an active air spring during usage. By doing so, the air spring can actively apply pressure and tension forces. The actuator is designed for small movements at high forces. It is insensitive to side forces, which are introduced by the bellows rolling on the rolling piston of the air spring. A diaphragm sealing is used to minimize friction. Hence a precise adjustment of small displacements at high dynamics is possible and the system is completely leakage-free. We d

AbstractAll engines involve the raising of pressure in the engine’s medium, be it liquid compression of water, piston-cylinder compression of air or compression by aerodynamic forces. The last is the hardest because it is required to be efficient and stable. An aerodynamic air compressor works by slowing velocities to raise pressure. The airfoil has a difficult time doing this reliably and well and so does the compressor. When it does, it allows for amazing performance of the engine in terms of power and efficiency.

The envisioned transition to hydrogen blended fuels is expected to alter the post-combustion atmosphere in the engines, primarily resulting in a higher water vapor content (> 20 vol%) and potentially higher exhaust gas temperatures. The oxidation resistance of existing and newly developed alloys will be a critical life-limiting mechanism under these conditions. Abstract Conventional compression ignition (diesel) engine combustion system, employ pistons with omega shaped bowls (or a very similar shape) combined with a swirl-based bulk air motion to ensure good fuel-air mixing. However, such bowls have a relatively large surface area:volume ratio, leading to significant heat loss, and are complex to design and manufacture. Recent advances in fuel injection technology, allowing higher injection pressures and multiple injection events and digital rate shaping, along with variable intake valve technology mean that achieving sufficient fuel-air mixing may

Harold F. Pitcairn, American aviation and Autogiro pioneer, died from a single gunshot wound to the head in the late evening hours of April 23, 1960 at the age of 62 after a gala evening at which he presided over a celebration attended by more than 450 guests for his brother's Raymond's 75th birthday. Initially labelled a suicide by the press, Pitcairn's widow Clara declared that "she never wanted to hear another word about the tragedy", while friends and friendly local authorities made the argument, duly reported by Frank Kingston Smith in Legacy of Wings, his devotional Pitcairn biography (s

Abstract:
This paper describes the evolution of the original Air Supply Units as oil-lubricated piston compressors to the new range of Knorr-Bremse Oil-Less Piston Compressors. These compressors will provide reliable, cost-effective, operation in a railway environment. The design features of the Oil-Free Piston Compressor are described and the operational advantages over conventional oil-lubricated reciprocating compressors are highlighted.

Abstract:
The Free Double Piston Composite Cycle Engine (FDP-CCE) integrates turbofan engine architecture with piston engine characteristics, aiming to optimize the engine efficiency and reduce the CO2 emissions. Its free-piston structure is significantly lighter and smaller than traditional crankshaft-connected piston engines, eliminating the need for mechanical transmissions and lubrication systems. Innovations like air lubrication, increased piston velocities, and a self-powered gas generator contribute to higher cylinder temperatures. This study details the FDP’s concept design, its operational para

An experimental study was carried out to characterize the scavenging behavior of a cross-scavenged, piston-aspirated, two-stroke, natural gas engine to aid in the development of computationally inexpensive simple scavenging models for onboard engine control by (1) studying the effects of changing operational parameters on the engine's scavenging performance, and (2) identifying the underlying phenomena driving the observed effects. Tracer based methods were used to quantify the scavenging and trapping performance of the engine - CO2 was used as a tracer for combustion products and pre-mixed fu

Based on experimental characterization of the scavenging behavior of a cross-scavenged, piston-aspirated, two-stroke, natural gas engine in phase III of the current project, a computationally inexpensive simple scavenging model was improved in this phase. Experimental results using fast nondispersive infrared (NDIR) CO2 measurements from the cylinder and the exhaust, as well as experiments using unburned fuel pre-mixed in the scavenging chamber as a tracer for short-circuiting during scavenging, were used in this phase to validate the improved model.
