Es handelt sich um eine seltene, aber gravierende Gefahr für Epilepsiepatienten. Im Folgenden soll gezeigt werden, welche Mechanismen und Risikofaktoren eine Rolle spielen und wie das Auftreten von SUDEP verhindert werden kann.

Zusammenfassung:Es wird vorgeschlagen, das Akronym „RIBIL“ für flüssige, reaktive, Iminiumsalz-basierte Verbindungen zu verwenden. Eine Zusammenstellung von strukturell unterschiedlichen RIBILs wird vorgestellt. Die Anwendung von RIBILs als Reaktionsmedium ist vorteilhaft, da sie bei geeigneter Wahl der Reaktanden eine besonders einfache Aufarbeitung erlaubt. Die Reaktion äquimolarer Mengen an aliphatischen Carbonsäuren und Alkoholen in N,N-Dimethyl-(hydroxymethylen)iminium-hydrogensulfat (DMF/H2SO4-Addukt) (20c) führt zu Carbonsäureestern, die sich aus dem Reaktionsgemisch als zweite Phase abscheiden.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNGDer plötzliche, unerwartete Tod eines Menschen mit Epilepsie wird mit dem englischen Akronym SUDEP bezeichnet (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy). Etwa einer von 1000 Epilepsiepatienten stirbt hieran, vor allem jene mit häufigeren nächtlichen generalisierten konvulsiven Anfällen. Die Mehrzahl der SUDEP-Fälle ist durch postiktuale Störungen der Atem- und Kreislauffunktion mit primärer zentraler Apnoe und sekundärer Asystolie verursacht. Die beteiligten zellulären Pathomechanismen sind jedoch noch ungeklärt. Die Aufklärung aller Patienten und Angehörigen wird durch angloamerikanische Fachgesellschaften empfohlen und von den meisten auch gewünscht. Entscheidend für die Prävention ist eine konsequente Anfallskontrolle. Zudem kann eine nächtliche Supervision das Risiko für SUDEP relevant mindern, dafür stehen klinisch geprüfte alltagstaugliche Anfallsdetektionssysteme zur Verfügung.

Zusammenfassung. Infolge des Zuzugs von Kindern mit Fluchtbiografie weisen Träger dieser Zielgruppe Plätze in Kindertageseinrichtungen zu oder richten andere Formen der Betreuung für sie ein. Das Forschungsprojekt TanGO 1 (Akronym für „Transitions- und Aneignungsprozesse geflüchteter Kinder an pädagogischen Orten“) untersucht die Wahrnehmungen und Alltagspraktiken von Kindern, Eltern und Fachkräften an drei differenten Betreuungssettings. In Anlehnung an Winkler (2009) werden diese als pädagogische Ort(e) bezeichnet. Der Beitrag fokussiert auf ein mittels der Dokumentarischen Methode ( Bohnsack, 2010 , Bohnsack, 2011 ) rekonstruiertes gemeinsames Orientierungsmuster von Kindern und Fachkräften. Das Gemeinsame wird anhand exemplarischer Passagen aus dem bisher vorliegenden Datenkorpus aufgezeigt. Das empirische Material zeigt in der Auseinandersetzung von Kindern und Fachkräften mit den Betreuungssettings, wie die Organisationslogik auf gelebte Alltagspraxis trifft.

ZusammenfassungDie Rostocker Hautklinik ist Europäisches Referenznetzwerkzentrum für seltene Hauterkrankungen mit den besonderen Schwerpunkten Xeroderma pigmentosum und Ichthyosen. Diese Themen vertreten wir auch in der medizinischen Grundlagenforschung.Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) ist eine seltene, autosomal-rezessive Erkrankung, die entsprechend der Gendefekte in 7 Komplementationsgruppen – XP-A bis XP-G sowie die sog. XP-Variante (XP-V) – eingeteilt wird. XP ist ein Nukleotid-Exzisions-Reparatur-Defektsyndrom und äußert sich v. a. durch vorzeitige Hautalterung und frühzeitige Entwicklung von Hauttumoren.Das seltene, neurokutane CEDNIK-Syndrom ist eine autosomal-rezessive Erkrankung, der eine Loss-of-Function-Mutation in SNAP29 zugrunde liegt. SNAP29 ist ein SNARE-Protein und an intrazellulären Membranfusionen beteiligt. CEDNIK ist ein Akronym für den mit dem Syndrom assoziierten Symptomkomplex aus zerebraler Dysgenese, Neuropathie, Ichthyose und Palmoplantarkeratosen. CEDNIK-Patienten weisen neben der Ichthyose zudem Gedeihstörungen, eine psychomotorische Retardierung und faziale Dysmorphien auf.

Abstract:
Die FAST-Untersuchung ist seit vielen Jahren ein diagnostisches Standardverfahren in der Traumatologie. Bis vor kurzem wurde sie von den deutschsprachigen Ultraschallgesellschaften nicht anerkannt und fehlt deshalb im aktuellen Ausbildungsangebot. Das Akronym «FAST» bedeutet «Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma» und wird definiert als sonographische Suche nach intraperitonealer, pleuraler und perikardialer Flüssigkeit bei Patienten mit stumpfem oder penetrierendem Trauma. Die Erweiterung zum eFAST («extended FAST») im Jahre 2004 mit zusätzlicher Diagnostik des Pneumothorax war nur der Beginn einer rasanten weiteren Entwicklung. So spricht man heute bereits von FAST-plus und meint damit eine Vielzahl von Anwendungen im Rahmen des Atemwegsmanagements, der Diagnostik von Organverletzungen, des Hirnhochdrucks sowie als Unterstützung bei invasiven Verfahren. Wohin FAST geht, hängt jedoch von der Rolle ab, welche die Computertomographie (CT) in Zukunft einnehmen wird. Es ist nämlich noch offen, ob die CT im Sinne von FACTT («Focused Assessment with Computer-Tomography in Trauma») das FAST verdrängen und zum Standarddiagnostikum avancieren kann.

Abstract:
ZusammenfassungIm Rahmen einer neuen Betrachtungsweise der renalen Osteopathie soll nun der Terminus der “Störungen des Mineral- und Knochenhaushalts bei Niereninsuffizienz” (engl. Akronym: CKD-MBD) die ehemals rein knochenzentrische Sicht zu diesem Krankheitsbild ablösen. CKD-MBD wird nun betrachtet als ein Syndrom, zu dessen Diagnose auch der Nachweis kardiovaskulärer Verkalkungen gehört. Es ist bereits gut untersucht, dass die Prävalenz von Gefäßverkalkungen mit fortschreitender Niereninsuffizienz zunimmt und diese bei Weitem schwerwiegender sind als in einer nierengesunden Normalbevölkerung. Es wurde außerdem erkannt, dass spezifische pathophysiologische Störungen den Verlauf von Weichteilverkalkungen determinieren, wie beispielsweise die Hyperphosphatämie, die osteogene Differenzierung von Gefäßwandzellen und Verkalkungsinhibitormangel. Der Schweregrad kardiovaskulärer Verkalkungen entspricht zudem einem erheblichen Risikofaktor für kardiovaskuläre Ereignisse. Es bestehen jedoch noch Unsicherheiten hinsichtlich der Sensitivitäten und Spezifitäten der verfügbaren bildgebenden und funktionellen Nachweisverfahren. Ebenfalls ist noch nicht bewiesen, dass eine Progressionshemmung von Gefäßverkalkungen in der Niereninsuffizienz unmittelbaren Einfluss auf patientenrelevante Endpunkte hat. Schließlich bedarf es noch der Definition von geradlinigen klinischen Algorithmen zur Diagnostik und Therapie, nachdem kardiovaskuläre Verkalkungen bei niereninsuffizienten Patienten detektiert wurden.

<p>Det här självständiga arbetet i militärteknik avhandlar huruvida Försvarsmakten, med i huvudsak redan befintlig materiel, genom en teknisk aktiv skyddslösning kan uppnå en förbättrad skyddsförmåga mot indirekt eld. Förmågan som söks är främst avsedd för, men inte begränsad till, att kunna nyttjas för att erhålla ett förbättrat skydd av Försvarsmaktens internationella camper. Därmed utgörs hotbilden framförallt av granatkastarammunition och raketer vilka inom ramen för en teknisk aktiv skyddslösning först måste kunna detekteras för att sen medge förvarning, eller ännu hellre avvärjning, innan de når sitt mål. Arbetets resultat presenteras i form av Förvarsmaktens möjligheter idag tillsammans med en rekommendation om hur skyddsförmågan kan säkerställas på något längre sikt.</p><br><p>This thesis in Military Technology deals with whether the Armed Forces, with mainly pre-existing equipment and using a technical active protection solution, can achieve enhanced protection capability against indirect fire. The capability sought is primarily for, but not limited to, the purpose of obtaining greater protection for the Swedish Armed Forces’ international camps. The threat, typically mortar ammunition and rockets, should within the framework of a technical active protection solution be detectable in order to provide early warning and preferably also interception before reaching its target. The results of the thesis are presented as possibilities for the Swedish Armed Forces today and as recommendations on how this capability can be achieved in the longer term.</p>

Abstract:
Foreign object damage in gas turbines presents serious safety and financial concerns. As the aerospace industry draws closer to implementing ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) in gas turbines, the corresponding behavior in these materials after such events needs to be understood. To address this requirement, several silicon infiltrated fiber reinforced SiC/SiC coupons were impacted with high speed projectiles with velocities up to 360 m/s with an impact rig built at the University of Akron and NAVAIR. The resulting damage states were assessed using several non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques and compared to actual damage condition observed through the sectioning of impacted coupons. Ultimately, the true consequence of the damage was revealed by measuring the post-impact, residual strengths via uniaxial tensile tests to failure at both room and elevated temperatures. Lastly, the NDE results revealed a complicated damage morphology consisting of in-and-out-of plane damage that significantly affected the retained mechanical properties.

Abstract:
The authors are presenting in this paper combined experimental and numerical results that bring up some less explored aspects the Taylor fluid instability. In fact the paper will concentrate on issues that explore flow formations on the road to the fully developed Taylor instability (500–1800 rpm). The experimental investigation uses the Full Flow Field Tracking {FFFT) method, developed at the University of Akron, to visualize the flow in longitudinal cross sections and at the same time correlate flow pattern observations to torque measurements. The experimental results indicate that incipient flow instabilities appear at lower speeds than the ones predicted by the critical Taylor number, and include formation of incipient Taylor cells that occupy only a part of the gap. The cells are separated by axially flowing narrow rope-like flowing streams that twist in a corkscrew fashion around the circumference, while separating the incipient cells. As the rotational velocities increase the Taylor cells keep growing until they occupy the entire gap. Three-dimensional CFD studies were also performed for the matching set of conditions and for the higher rotational velocities (above &lt;1500 rpm), where experimental studies were not possible. The torque computed by the numerical model was compared with the experimentally obtained torque and the two results compare very favorably. Numerical simulation studies allowed an in-depth study of the flow mechanisms and trajectories inside the fully formed vortical Taylor instabilities. Computational studies were performed using CFD-ACE+ software package (CFD Research Corp, Huntsville, USA).

Abstract:
In this technical paper is presented a comparative study of the fatigue strength of high-pressure composite pipes and high-pressure composite pipes containing joints. The test specimens used in this experimental investigation were exposed to cyclic bending stresses and to cyclic bending stresses in combination with constant or cyclic internal pressures generated by water, brine, and crude oil. The extrinsic influence of elevated temperature on fatigue performance was also examined. A new Four-Point Bending Fatigue Machine was developed at the University of Akron to accomplish the testing. For each test specimen, two types of failure were distinctly observed. After a number of repeated cycles the fluid under internal pressure began to gradually leak through the fine microscopic cracks in the matrix. The fine microscopic cracks were oriented in the circumferential direction of the pipe. However, despite the occurrence of “weeping failure” of the pipe, internal pressure could be easily maintained. After about 10 to 100 times the number of cycles required for “weeping”, the fiber reinforcements of the pipe gradually fractured and the internal pressure could no longer be maintained. The loss of pressure is referred to as “pipe failure”. In these tests, the primary parameter controlling failure was orientation of the fiber reinforcements in the body of the pipe. Those fibers aligned along the pipe axis revealed a substantial improvement in cyclic fatigue resistance. The existence of a joint in the test specimen showed secondary importance, while contributing to degradation of the fatigue resistance of the specimen. Both types of failure were found to be dependant on temperature, over the range tested (22°–66° C), and also dependent on the type of internal liquid used. The specimens tested using crude oil at 66° C as the internal fluid revealed the lowest fatigue resistance.
