Aktuatorer är idag det senaste inom smarta textilier efter utvecklingen av bland annat sensorer. Med aktuatorernas funktioner finns idag potential att utveckla nya material som inte bara har förmågan att känna av saker, utan även röra sig genom formförändring. Formändringen innebär att aktuatorer har förmåga att ge en respons på stimulus och en del aktuatorer har dessutom förmågan att uppnå reversibilitet. I detta examensarbete presenteras därmed en experimentell studie där olika polymera material har sammanfogats genom laminering och därefter utsatts för värme. Syftet med den experimentella studien är bland annat att undersöka om plastlamineringar kan efterlikna termiskt aktiverade bikomponentfibrer. Resultatet av den experimentella studien tyder på att olika kombinationer av polymera material kan erhålla både respons och reversibilitet genom påverkan av termisk stimulus. Vidare har ett samarbete med en forskningsgrupp vid Linköpings Universitet inletts för att tillsammans bidra med utveckling av textila aktuatorer. Därmed har textila konstruktioner tagits fram på en handstickmaskin samt en elektronisk flatstickmaskin. Samtliga konstruktioner har framställts i olika material samt varierande bindningar och dessa erhöll bra elasticitet, vilket för syftet hade stor betydelse. Konstruktionerna blev därefter belagda med en elektroaktiv polymerbeläggning för att konstruktionerna skulle bli elektriskt ledande och utsattes sedan för elektrisk spänning för att uppnå önskad rörelse. Resultatet visade dock att rörelse inte kunde uppnås hos de konstruktioner som hann testas under projektets gång. Avsikten med detta samarbete är att utveckla textila aktuatorer som i sin tur kan efterlikna naturliga muskler. Således är förhoppningarna att bidra till utvecklingen av framtidens artificiella muskler.<br>Program: Textilingenjörsutbildningen

I det här examensarbetet har aktiv sätesdämpning implementerats på ett prototypunderrede med enbart pneumatiska dubbelverkande aktuatorer till en skotare. Kontrollern består av en inre loop med en "Sliding Mode Controller" (SMC) som kontrollerar kraften och styvheten i cylindrarna och en yttre loop med en proportionerlig positionskontroller. Golvets vertikala position beräknas med en accelerometer och denna position används sedan för att minimera sätets rörelser. När stolen utsattes för en vertikal golvrörelse med en amplitud på 20 mm och en frekvens på 1Hz begränsade den bästa cylindern rörelsen till 9.6 mm nedåt och 4.6 mm uppåt. Det är en minskning med 64.5 % av rörelsens topp-till-topp-värde. Prestandan i den använda testutrustningen tros ha varit begränsad av det tillgängliga luftflödet. Resultaten visar att konceptet med dubbelverkande pneumatiska cylindrar är värt att undersöka vidare och det finns två huvudsakliga områden att starta med, det första är att konsolidera stabiliteten och prestandan hos den implementerade SMC:n och det andra området är att utveckla en lämplig kontroller för den yttre loopen samt att bestämma hur dess referens ska beräknas.<br>In this thesis an active seat suspension controller was implemented on a prototype forwarder seat undercarriage using only double acting pneumatic cylinders. The controller consists of an inner loop sliding mode controller (SMC) that controls the force and stiffness of the cylinders and an outer loop linear proportional position controller. The floor position is calculated using an accelerometer, this position is then used to minimize the seat movements. When subjected to a vertical floor disturbance with an amplitude of 20 mm and a frequency of 1Hz the best cylinder lowered the seat motion to -9.6 mm in the negative direction and 4.6 mm in the positive direction. This is a decrease of 64.5 % of the top to top motion. The performance was in the current setup believed to be limited by the available airflow. The results shows that the concept of double acting cylinders for active seat suspension is worth to investigate further where there are two main areas of interest to start with, the first is to consolidate the stability and performance of the existing SMC and the second is to determine an appropriate outer loop controller and its reference.

Ein Dielektrischer Elastomer Aktuator (DEA) ist ein dehnbarer Kondensator, der aus einem Elastomerfilm besteht, der sich zwischen zwei flexiblen Elektroden befindet. Bei Anlegen einer elektrischen Spannung, ziehen sich die Elektroden aufgrund elektrostatischer Wechselwirkungen an, wodurch das Elastomer in z-Richtung zusammengepresst wird und sich dementsprechend in der x-,y-Ebene ausdehnt. Hierdurch werden Aktuationsbewegungen erreicht, welche sehr präzise über die Spannung gesteuert werden können. Zusätzlich sind DEAs kostengünstig, leicht und aktuieren geräuschlos. DEAs können beispielsweise für Produkte im medizinischen Bereich oder für optischer Komponenten genutzt werden. Ebenso kann aus diesen Bauteilen Strom erzeugt werden. Das größte Hindernis für eine weite Implementierung dieser Materialien liegt in den erforderlichen hohen Spannungen zum Erzeugen der Aktuationsbewegung, welche sich tendenziell im Kilovolt-Bereich befinden. Dies macht die Elektronik teuer und die Bauteile unsicher für Anwender. Um geringere Betriebsspannungen für die DEAs zu erreichen, sind signifikante Materialverbesserungen - insbesondere des verwendeten Elastomers - erforderlich. Um dies zu erreichen, können die dielektrischen Eigenschaften (Permittivität) der Elastomere gesteigert und/oder deren Steifigkeit (Young-Modul) gesenkt werden.
In der vorliegenden Arbeit konnte die Aktuationsleistung von Silikonfilmen durch die Addition organischer Dipole erheblich verbessert werden. Hierfür wurde ein Verfahren etabliert, um funktionalisierte Dipole kovalent an das Polymernetzwerk zu binden. Dieser als "One-Step-Verfahren" bezeichnete Ansatz ist einfach durchzuführen und es werden homogene Filme erhalten. Die Dipoladdition wurde anhand verschiedener Silikone erprobt, die sich hinsichtlich ihrer mechanischen Eigenschaften unterschieden.
Bei maximalem Dipolgehalt verdoppelte sich die Permittivität aller untersuchten Silikone und die Filme wurden deutlich weicher. Hierbei war festzustellen, dass die Netzwerkstruktur der verwendeten Silikone einen erheblichen Einfluss auf die erreichte Aktuationsdehnung hat. Abhängig vom Netzwerk erfolgte eine enorme Steigerung der Aktuationsleistung im Bereich von 100 % bis zu 4000 %. Dadurch können die Betriebsspannungen in DEAs deutlich abgesenkt werden, so dass sie tendenziell bei Spannungen unterhalb von einem Kilovolt betrieben werden können.<br>Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) are compliant capacitors consisting of an elastomer film between two flexible electrodes. When a voltage is applied the electrostatic attraction of the electrodes leads to a contraction of the polymer in the z-direction and to a corresponding expansion in the x,y-plane. DEAs show high actuation strains, which are very accurate and adjustable by the applied voltage. In addition these devices are low-cost, low-weight and the actuation is noise-free. DEAs can be used for medical applications, optical components or for energy harvesting. The main obstacle for a broad implementation of this technology is the high driving voltage, which tends to be several thousand volts. For this reason the devices are unsafe for users and the needed electronic components are expensive. A significant improvement of the materials - especially of the used elastomer - is necessary to lower the actuation voltages. This can be achieved by improving the dielectric properties (permittivity) of the elastomer and/or by lowering it's stiffness (Young's modulus).
In this work the actuation performance of silicone lms was improved significantly by the addition of organic dipoles. A simple procedure was developed, in which functionalized dipoles were bound to the polymer matrix, leading to homogenous and transparent films. This so-called "one-step-film-formation" was tested on various silicones with different mechanical properties. For the highest dipole content the permittivity of all tested silicones was doubled and the modified films showed a substantially lower stiffness. It was proven that the structure of the macromolecular network has a clear impact on the achievable actuation properties. For the highest dipole contents the actuation performance increased remarkably by 100 % up to 4000 % in respect to the investigated network. The addition of organic dipoles to the elastomer enables a signicant reduction of the needed driving voltage for DEAs below one kilovolt.

Examensarbetet har utförts på uppdrag av Kongsberg Automotive AB, en underleverantör inom fordonsindustrin som bland annat tillverkar växelspaksystem till både manuella och automatväxlade fordon. Fordonsbranschen kantas av ständig utveckling med innovativa lösningar, vilket under de senaste åren har resulterat i att elektroniken har fått en större roll i produkterna. Ifall elektroniken skadas kan det få förödande konsekvenser för produktens funktion. Det medför högre krav på säker inkapsling. För att motverka läckage och intrång av skadliga partiklar används ofta någon form av tätning. Produkten som har studerats i detta examensarbete är en aktuator, vars funktion är att omvandla elektroniska signaler från växelspaken till mekaniska rörelser som interagerar med växellådan. Produkten innehåller tre tätningar som samverkar för att uppfylla inkapslingskraven under fordonets hela livstid. Dessa tre tätningar består av en statisk tätning av typen FIPG, en dynamisk o-ring och en ventil tätning av Gore-Tex membran. Syftet med examensarbetet är att studera och utvärdera olika tätningskoncept som uppfyller de krav på inkapsling som ställs. Kongsberg önskar att utforska om det finns bättre alternativ till de tätningar som används i nuläget, särskilt vid en framtida ökad produktionsvolym. För att kunna utföra arbetet har en omfattande litteraturstudie genomförts. Den har bestått av faktainsamling, konkurrensanalys, intervjuer och observationer både på och utanför företaget. Detta mynnade ut i en Pughs matris där de olika tätningskoncepten ställdes mot den befintliga lösningen, FIPG och o-ring. Kriterier såsom kostnad, produktionsvänlighet, monteringsvänlighet, arbetsmiljö, processtid, livslängd samt behov av omkonstruktion har tagits fram till matrisen med hjälp av DFX-verktyg och intervjuer. En Pughs matris har utförts för både den statiska och dynamiska tätningen. Samma kriterier användes i båda fallen. Utifrån matrisen utnämndes lasersvetsning som den mest lämpliga metoden för den statiska tätningen. Anledningen till att den rekommenderas är bland annat dess låga kostnad vid höga volymer, den snabba processtiden samt dess långa livslängd. För den dynamiska tätningen rekommenderas Kongsberg Automotive att fortsätta med den befintliga lösningen, o-ringar. Detta på grund av dess låga kostnad för en tillräcklig livslängd. För att implementera den nya statiska tätningen krävs omkonstruktion av produkten. För en lyckad fogning ställs en del krav på flänsarna, bland annat en låg skevningstendens och en viss ytfinhet. Dessutom behöver flänsarna få en ny utformning som möjliggör fogning. Metoden bygger på att en del är lasertransparent och släpper igenom laserstrålen till den undre delen, som är laserabsorbent och smälter materialet vid fogen. Studien leder till ett grundligt underlag för Kongsberg Automotive, som kan underlätta vid beslut gällande tätningskonstruktionen.<br>This thesis is performed in association with Kongsberg Automotive AB, a subcontractor within the automotive industry who specializes in gear shifters for both manual and automatic transmission vehicles. The automotive industry is highly dynamic and constantly searching for innovative improvements. In recent years, this has led to an increase in the importance of electronics within a product. In case of an electronic failure, this can lead to devastating consequences for the function of a product. This leads to higher demands for safe encapsulation. Some sort of sealing is often used to reduce the risk of leakage and penetration of foreign particles. The product that has been studied in this project is an actuator. The function of an actuator is to convert electronic signals from the gear shifter to mechanical movements that interacts with the gearbox. The product consists of three sealing solutions that works together to meet the requirements for encapsulation during the vehicles lifetime. These solutions include a static gasket in form of a FIPG, a dynamic o-ring seal and a Gore-Tex vent membrane. The purpose of this thesis is to study and evaluate different sealing solutions that fulfills the demands of encapsulation according to the specification. Kongsberg Automotive wishes to explore if there are better sealing alternatives than the ones used today, particularly in regards to a potential increase in volume in the near future. In order to perform the project, an extensive literature study has been conducted. It was based on collection of facts, benchmarking, interviews and observations both within and outside of the company. This resulted in a Pugh matrix where the different sealing concepts where evaluated against the current solution, FIPG and dynamic o-rings. Criteria such as cost, production and assembly friendliness, work environment, processing time, life expectancy and the need of redesign were developed based on DFX-tools and interviews. The Pugh matrix were performed for both the static and the dynamic seal, using the same criteria in both cases. Based on the matrix, laser welding were chosen to be the most suitable seal for the static application. A few of the reasons were its low cost for high volume productions, the fast processing time and high function. For the dynamic seal, Kongsberg is recommended to continue using the current o-ring solution due to its low cost. To implement the recommended static sealing, redesign of the product is required. To achieve a successful joint, there are increased requirements for the flange surfaces, such as warpage and surface finish. In addition to this, the flanges needs a new design that enables joining. Laser welding is based on the material properties of the flanges. One part needs to be laser transparent to let the laser beam through, while the other part has to be laser absorbent to melt the material by the joint. This study results in a foundation for Kongsberg Automotive, to facilitate decision-making in regards to sealing design.

Istraživanja u okviru ove disertacije su usmerena ka određivanju parametara korelacije izbora aktuatora i vremena ciklusa proizvodnje. Dobijeni parametri se koriste kao ulazni elementi metode koja će biti implementirana u softverski paket. Verifikacija predložene metode je izvršena na studijama slučajeva: IML robota i manipulatora za mašinu za termoformiranje, koje predstavljaju odgovarajuće primere uređaja u koje se ugrađuju svi tipovi aktuatora.<br>Research within this thesis are focused on determining the parameters of correlation election of an actuator and a production cycle time. The resulting parameters are used for the development of appropriate methods that will be implemented in the software package. Verification of the proposed method is performed on case studies: IML robots and manipulators for thermoforming machine, which are appropriate examples of devices that incorporate all types of actuators.

U tezi je analizirana opravdanost primene FPGA tehnologije za razvoj upravljačkog sistema za linearne aktuatore. Realizovan je upravljački sistem za servo upravljanje linearnim pneumatskim aktuatorom, čiji rad je eksperimentalno proveren. Razvijeni su i algoritmi za detekciju opterećenosti aktuatora, kao i za detekciju prepreke na nepoznatoj poziciji korišćenjem metode analize promene pritiska u komorama pneumatskog cilindra.<br>This thesis discusses the possibilities of FPGA technology application inthe development of a control system for linear actuators. A control systemfor servo control of linear pneumatic actuators was realized, andexperimentally tested. Furthermore, algorithms were developed fordetection of actuator load, as well as for detection of an obstacle inunknown position, by analysing pressure change in the pneumaticcylinder chambers.

Die vorliegende Arbeit beschreibt die Entwicklung und Charakterisierung eines mikromechanischen kraftgekoppelten Schwingsystems für die resonante Detektion niederfrequenter Schwingungen. Es wird ein neuartiges Prinzip vorgestellt, das es ermöglicht, niederfrequente Vibrationen frequenzselektiv zu erfassen. Mittels Amplitudenmodulation wird das niederfrequente Signal in einen höheren Frequenzbereich umgesetzt. Durch Ausnutzung der mechanischen Resonanzüberhöhung wird aus dem breitbandigen Signal ein schmales Band herausgefiltert, die anderen Frequenzbereiche werden unterdrückt. Auf diese Weise wird direkt die spektrale Information des niederfrequenten Signals gewonnen. Eine Fourier-Transformation ist hierbei nicht notwendig. Die Abstimmung des Sensors erfolgt über eine Wechselspannung und führt dadurch zu einer einfachen Auswertung. Die Schwerpunkte der Arbeit liegen in den theoretischen Untersuchungen zum neuartigen Sensorprinzip, in der Entwicklung einer mikromechanischen Sensorstruktur zum Einsatz des neuen Prinzips sowie in der Entwicklung und Charakterisierung eines Messsystems zur Detektion niederfrequenter mechanischer Schwingungen mit dem neuen Sensor<br>This thesis describes the development and characterization of a micromechanical force coupled oscillator system for the resonant detection of low frequency vibrations. It presents a novel working principle that enables spectral measurements of low frequency vibrations. The low frequency spectral content is converted into a higher frequency range by means of amplitude modulation. Due to the mechanical resonance a narrow band is filtered out of the wide band vibration signal. The remaining frequency content is suppressed. Hence, the spectral information is directly obtained with the sensor system without a fast Fourier transform. The tuning is done with an AC voltage resulting in a simple analysis. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschreibt die Entwicklung und Charakterisierung eines mikromechanischen kraftgekoppelten Schwingsystems für die resonante Detektion niederfrequenter Schwingungen. Es wird ein neuartiges Prinzip vorgestellt, das es ermöglicht, niederfrequente Vibrationen frequenzselektiv zu erfassen. Mittels Amplitudenmodulation wird das niederfrequente Signal in einen höheren Frequenzbereich umgesetzt. Durch Ausnutzung der mechanischen Resonanzüberhöhung wird aus dem breitbandigen Signal ein schmales Band herausgefiltert, die anderen Frequenzbereiche werden unterdrückt. Auf diese Weise wird direkt die spektrale Information des niederfrequenten Signals gewonnen. Eine Fourier-Transformation ist hierbei nicht notwendig. Die Abstimmung des Sensors erfolgt über eine Wechselspannung und führt dadurch zu einer einfachen Auswertung.
Die Schwerpunkte der Arbeit liegen in den theoretischen Untersuchungen zum neuartigen Sensorprinzip, in der Entwicklung einer mikromechanischen Sensorstruktur zum Einsatz des neuen Prinzips sowie in der Entwicklung und Charakterisierung eines Messsystems zur Detektion niederfrequenter mechanischer Schwingungen mit dem neuen Sensor.<br>This thesis describes the development and characterization of a micromechanical force coupled oscillator system for the resonant detection of low frequency vibrations. It presents a novel working principle that enables spectral measurements of low frequency vibrations. The low frequency spectral content is converted into a higher frequency range by means of amplitude modulation. Due to the mechanical resonance a narrow band is filtered out of the wide band vibration signal. The remaining frequency content is suppressed. Hence, the spectral information is directly obtained with the sensor system without a fast Fourier transform. The tuning is done with an AC voltage resulting in a simple analysis.

Begriffe wie Kopplung auf Systemebene über Terminals und auf Feldebene über Lastvektor oder Matrixkopplung werden zugeordnet. Wie diese Kopplungsmöglichkeiten sich in der ANSYS Simulationsumgebung wiederfinden, wird aufgezeigt. Am Beispiel eines Akuators wird erläutert, welche physikalischen Domänen gekoppelt betrachtet werden müssen, um die hier vorhandenen temperaturabhängigen Materialeigenschaften zu berücksichtigen. In einem Beispiel zu einer Steckverbindung wird aufgezeigt, wie eine vom Kontaktdruck abhängige Leitfähigkeit berücksichtigt wird und Ergebnisse aus dieser Simulation werden diskutiert.

Eksperimentalni rezultati pokazujusvojstva algoritama i njihove prednosti u odnosu na postojeće.<br>Two improvements of the simple auction protocol (SAP) for the taskassignment in wireless sensor and actuator networks is proposed in thisdissertation (multi-hop communications and localization). Five new auctionaggregation algorithms for the task assignment are proposed with the goal tominimize the communication costs. One of the auction aggregation algorithmsis also used to improve existing iMesh service discovery algorithm.Experimental results show the characteristics of the proposed algorithms andadvantages over the existing ones.

Passive plant actuators have fascinated many researchers in the field of botany and structural biology since at least one century. Up to date, the most investigated tissue types in plant and artificial passive actuators are fibre-reinforced composites (and multilayered assemblies thereof) where stiff, almost inextensible cellulose microfibrils direct the otherwise isotropic swelling of a matrix. In addition, Nature provides examples of actuating systems based on lignified, low-swelling, cellular solids enclosing a high-swelling cellulosic phase. This is the case of the Delosperma nakurense seed capsule, in which a specialized tissue promotes the reversible opening of the capsule upon wetting. This tissue has a diamond-shaped honeycomb microstructure characterized by high geometrical anisotropy: when the cellulosic phase swells inside this constraining structure, the tissue deforms up to four times in one principal direction while maintaining its original dimension in the other.
Inspired by the example of the Delosoperma nakurense, in this thesis we analyze the role of architecture of 2D cellular solids as models for natural hygromorphs. To start off, we consider a simple fluid pressure acting in the cells and try to assess the influence of several architectural parameters onto their mechanical actuation. Since internal pressurization is a configurational type of load (that is the load direction is not fixed but it “follows” the structure as it deforms) it will result in the cellular structure acquiring a “spontaneous” shape. This shape is independent of the load but just depends on the architectural characteristics of the cells making up the structure itself. Whereas regular convex tiled cellular solids (such as hexagonal, triangular or square lattices) deform isotropically upon pressurization, we show through finite element simulations that by introducing anisotropic and non-convex, reentrant tiling large expansions can be achieved in each individual cell.
The influence of geometrical anisotropy onto the expansion behaviour of a diamond shaped honeycomb is assessed by FEM calculations and a Born lattice approximation. We found that anisotropic expansions (eigenstrains) comparable to those observed in the keels tissue of the Delosoperma nakurense are possible. In particular these depend on the relative contributions of bending and stretching of the beams building up the honeycomb.
Moreover, by varying the walls’ Young modulus E and internal pressure p we found that both the eigenstrains and 2D elastic moduli scale with the ratio p/E. Therefore the potential of these pressurized structures as soft actuators is outlined.
This approach was extended by considering several 2D cellular solids based on two types of non-convex cells. Each honeycomb is build as a lattice made of only one non-convex cell. Compared to usual honeycombs, these lattices have kinked walls between neighbouring cells which offers a hidden length scale allowing large directed deformations. By comparing the area expansion in all lattices, we were able to show that less convex cells are prone to achieve larger area expansions, but the direction in which the material expands is variable and depends on the local cell’s connectivity. This has repercussions both at the macroscopic (lattice level) and microscopic (cells level) scales. At the macroscopic scale, these non-convex lattices can experience large anisotropic (similarly to the diamond shaped honeycomb) or perfectly isotropic principal expansions, large shearing deformations or a mixed behaviour. Moreover, lattices that at the macroscopic scale expand similarly can show quite different microscopic deformation patterns that include zig-zag motions and radical changes of the initial cell shape. Depending on the lattice architecture, the microscopic deformations of the individual cells can be equal or not, so that they can build up or mutually compensate and hence give rise to the aforementioned variety of macroscopic behaviours. Interestingly, simple geometrical arguments involving the undeformed cell shape and its local connectivity enable to predict the results of the FE simulations.
Motivated by the results of the simulations, we also created experimental 3D printed models of such actuating structures. When swollen, the models undergo substantial deformation with deformation patterns qualitatively following those predicted by the simulations.
This work highlights how the internal architecture of a swellable cellular solid can lead to complex shape changes which may be useful in the fields of soft robotics or morphing structures.<br>Passive pflanzliche Aktuatoren sind bewegliche Strukturen, die eine komplexe Bewegung ohne jegliche metabolische Energiequelle erzeugen können. Diese Fähigkeit entstammt dabei der Materialverteilung mit unterschiedlicher Quellbarkeit innerhalb der Gewebsstruktur.Die bis heute am besten untersuchten Gewebearten pflanzlicher und künstlicher Passivaktuatoren sind Faserverbundwerkstoffe, in denen steife, fast undehnbare Zellulosemikrofibrillen die ansonsten isotrope Schwellung einer Matrix leiten. Darüber hinaus gibt es in der Natur Beispiele für Aktuationssysteme, wie z.B. die Delosoperma nakurense Samenkapsel, in der das Aktuatorgewebe eine Wabenstruktur aufweist, deren Zellen mit einem hochquellenden Material gefüllt sind. Dabei hat die Wabenstruktur des Gewebes eine hohe geometrische Anisotropie, so dass sich das Gewebe bei Wasseraufnahme bis zur vierfachen Länge entlang einer Hauptrichtung ausdehnt und somit die reversible Öffnung der Kapsel angetrieben wird.
Inspiriert durch das Vorbild der Delosoperma nakurense, wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit die Rolle der Architektur von 2D-Zellulärmaterialien als Modell für natürliche passive Aktuatoren analysiert. Zunächst wird anhand eines einfachen Flüssigkeitsdrucks in den Zellen der Einfluss verschiedener architektonischer Parameter auf deren mechanische Betätigung untersucht.
Wohingegen regelmäßige konvexe Wabenstrukturen (wie z. B. sechseckige, dreieckige oder quadratische Gitter) sich unter Druck isotropisch verformen, wird durch Finite-Elemente-Simulationen gezeigt, dass es bei anisotropen und nicht-konvexen Zellen zu großen Ausdehnungen jeder einzelnen Zelle kommt.
Auch wenn nur eine einzelne Zellgeometrie betrachtet wird, können hierbei viele verschiedene Gitter entstehen. Die Ausdehnungsrichtung des Gitters ist variabel und hängt von der lokalen Konnektivität der Zellen ab. Dies hat Auswirkungen sowohl auf makroskopischer (Gitter-) als auch auf mikroskopischer (Zell-) Ebene. Auf makroskopischer Ebene erfahren diese nicht-konvexen Gitter entweder große anisotrope (ähnlich der Delosperma nakurense Samenkapsel) oder vollkommen isotrope Eigendehnungen, große Scherverformungen oder jeweilige Mischformen. Überdies können Gitter mit ähnlichem makroskopischem Verhalten gänzlich unterschiedliche mikroskopische Verformungsmuster zeigen, wie z.B. Zick-Zack-Bewegungen oder radikale Änderungen der ursprünglichen Zellform. Dies verursacht auch eine entsprechende Änderung der elastischen Eigenschaften. In Abhängigkeit der Gitterarchitektur kann es zu gleichen oder unterschiedlichen mikroskopischen Zelldeformationen kommen, die sich in Summe entweder verstärken oder ausgleichen, und somit die Vielzahl an makroskopischen Verhalten erklären. Interessanterweise lassen sich mit Hilfe einfacher geometrischer Argumente aus der nichtdeformierten Zellform und Zellkonnektivität die Ergebnisse der FE-Simulationen vorhersagen.
Die Ergebnisse der Finite-Elemente-Simulationen wurden durch Laborversuche bestätigt, in denen (mit 3D-Drucktechnik gefertigte) Modellgitter ähnliches Ausdehnungsverhalten beim Quellen zeigen.
Diese Arbeit zeigt auf, wie die Innenarchitektur eines quellfähigen zellulären Feststoffs zu komplexen Formänderungen führen kann, die in den Bereichen der Soft-Robotik oder bei Morphing-Strukturen angewandt werden können.

Arbetet undersökte möjligheterna att väva artificiella muskler och ämnade till att vara en förstudie till fortsatt forskning inom området. Rörelsehinder begränsar många människor i sin vardag och något som ca 15 % av jordens befolkning lever med. Dagens kommersiella rörelse-assisterande hjälpmedel är oftast bestående av hårda och stela material och möjligheten att utveckla mjuka och mer följsamma hjälpmedel utforskas ständigt. Syftet var att undersöka om en vävd artificiell muskel kunde efterlikna en däggdjurs muskel utifrån kraft och kontraktions egenskaper och vad textil kunde bidra med till konstruktionen. McKibben aktuatorer integrerades parallellt i en väv för att skapa en konstruktion. En litteraturstudie utfördes på ämnet muskler, aktuatorer och textil för att kunna dra rimliga slutsatser och analyser i arbetet. För att utvärdera egenskaperna hos en vävd muskel har olika kombinationer av vävda konstruktioner med integrerade McKibben aktuatorer undersökts. Konstruktionernas mått har varierats mellan hur hårt och hur tätt McKibben aktuatorerna integrerats i väven för att söka efter de optimala parametrarna. I rapporten kommer de att benämnas som kanaler och zoner. Sammanlagt har 10 olika vävprover skapats och testas. Testmetoderna som används i arbetet är framtagna specifikt för detta arbete och inga standardiserade metoder har använts. Testmetoderna som utformades är baserade på tidigare forskningsförsök samt kunskap om däggdjurs muskelns förmåga att kontrahera och utöva kraft. Kontraktionen testades genom att undersöka hur mycket den vävda muskeln drog ihop sig och styrkan mättes i kraft med hjälp av en dynamometer. Resultaten som gavs från testerna var att kanaler som begränsar McKibben aktuatorernas förmåga att expandera begränsar dess förmåga att kontrahera men att zonerna inte gav någon större påverkan på vare sig kraft eller kontraktion. Från på de vävda proverna som visade bäst resultat i testerna skapades en optimal artificiell muskel och en maskinvävd artificiell muskel. För den optimala artificiella muskeln integrerades fler McKibben aktuatorer. I syfte att undersöka ifall fler aktuatorer i konstruktionen visade på ökad kraft. Additivitet i kraft påvisades och textil bidrog till maximal kraft kunde uppnås. Den maskinvävda artificiella muskeln producerades för att undersöka potentiella produktionsmöjligheter och därmed skulle kunna användas till en tänkbar applikation. Arbetets resulterade i en optimerad vävd artificiell muskel och påvisar möjligheter för att skala upp en produktion av vävda artificiella muskler. Sammanfattningsvis kunde en vävd artificiell muskel påvisa goda kontraktions och kraftegenskaper likt en däggdjurs muskel.<br>The work investigated the possibilities of weaving artificial muscles and is intended to inspire further studies in the field. Disability affects many people in their daily lives and about 15 % of the world's population lives with some form of disability. Today´s commensally used rehabilitation and mobility assistance applications are usually made of hard and stiff materials. But the development of soft and more bodyc ompliant aids are constantly being explored. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether woven artificial muscles could show similarities with mammal's muscles based on their ability to exert force and contract. McKibben actuators were integrated in a woven structure creating a combined construction. The textile aspect was further investigated to examine if it could contribute to the construction by increasing these properties. A literature study was developed to increase the knowledge of subjects such as muscles, actuators and textiles. To investigate the properties of a woven muscle, various combinations of woven structures with integrated McKibben actuators have been created. The proportions of the woven structures have varied between how tight and how close the McKibben actuators could be integrated to the fabric. The purpose was to find the optimal parameters for the woven muscle. In the report, the parameters will be referred to as channels and zones. A total of 10 different constructions have been created and tested. The test methods used in the study were developed for this report and no established methods have been used. Test methods were designed and developed with the intention to investigate force and contraction properties for the weaved muscle based on information of mammal muscles. By measuring contraction length and force for each woven sample with integrated McKibben actuators. The results from the tests showed that a tight channel could limit the McKibben actuators' ability to contract, however the zones did not impact the contraction ability or force extraction. Based on the results the most optimal parameters were discovered and an optimal artificial muscle was created. For the optimal artificial muscle, more McKibben actuators were integrated. In order to investigate if the force could be increased. Additivity in force was found and the textile structure contributed to increased force. A machine-woven artificial muscle was produced to investigate potential production possibilities. Whether these woven artificial muscles could be used in further applications were discussed. The study resulted in an optimized woven artificial muscle. Industrial production opportunities were demonstrated by producing an artificial muscle in an industrial weaving machine. In conclusion, the weaved artificial muscle showed good contraction and force abilities similar to a mammalian muscle.

This report is going to investigate the possibility to save energy by converting a valve opening mechanism in a waste disposal system from a pneumatic system to an electric system. To power the system, which mainly consists of an electric actuator and a valve control module, a solar panel system was designed. The valve system was controlled by the lightweight messaging protocol MQTT. To be able to choose an electric actuator the needed force was measured and data regarding maximal stroke was taken from the data sheet of the existing setup. For developing an optimal solar panel system a program was written in Google Spreadsheet. The program takes input regarding power, cycles, solar panel system specifications and environmental factors. The output from the program is energy consumption for the system, specification for solar charger, solar panel setup and charge data. The result was that the solar panel system needed to consists of four 12 V VRLA batteries with a capacity of 90 Ah each and four solar panels with a rated power of 300 W each. The solar charger must be able to handle 900 W and provide an output current of 25,5 A to fulfil the demands. The new electric actuator will consume four times less energy than the old pneumatic actuator. Most of the energy savings are consequences of reduced energy consumption at idle of the system. A demonstarator was built to test the system.<br>Den här rapporten kommer att undersöka möjligheten att spara energi genom att konvertera ett ventilöppningsmekanism i ett avfallshanteringssystem från ett pneumatiskt system till ett elektriskt system. För att driva systemet, som främst består av en elektrisk aktuator och en ventil styrenhet, ska ett solcellssystem designas. Ventilsystemet ska styras med hjälp lättviktsmeddelandeprotokollet MQTT. För att kunna välja en aktuator mättes den behövda kraften och data angående maximal slaglängd togs från databladet på den nuvarande konstruktionen. För att utveckla ett optimalt solcellssystem skrevs ett program i Google Kalkylark. Programmet använder energi, cykler, solcellssystem och miljöfaktorer som indata. Som utdata ges energiförbrukning hos systemet, specifikation för solcellsregulator, solpaneler och laddningsdata. Resultatet var att det solcellssystem som behövs bestå av fyra 12 V VRLA batterier med en kapacitet på 90 Ah var och fyra solpaneler med en nominell effekt på 300 W vardera. Solcellssregulatorn behöver kunna hantera 900 W och generera en ström på 25,5 A. Den nya elektriska aktuatorn kommer förbruka fyra gånger så lite energi jämfört med den gamla pneumatiska aktuatorn. Mechanical ventilators are devices in critical care to assist breathing in case of expiratory dysfunction. The expiratory valve is a critical component to the ventilator as it controls the pressure in the patient’s lungs. The design process of a new expiratory valve assembly is a time consuming one due to the wide range of possible design solutions both the voice-coil actuators and membrane valves typically used in ventilators. This thesis evaluates the possibility of creating and using analytical models for model based development to speed up the early design phases of a expiratory valve assembly. The main components, voice-coil actuator and membrane valve are modelled separately and experimentally verified. A complete expiratory system model and hardware-in-the-loop test setup are constructed in order to explore how well can the dynamic properties and control performance of valve assembly be predicted. Finally various questions in the valve assembly design are explored and a new design is proposed to demonstrate the capabilities of the model based approach. The resulting voice-coil and membrane valve models can be considered accurate enough for fast exploration of the design space, as an error rate below 10% is reached without manual tuning for each design.<br>Mekaniska ventilatorer är en utrustning inom intensivvården för assisterad andning för patienter med nedsatt andningsförmåga. Utandningsventilen är en kritisk komponent till ventilatorn då den kontrollerar lungtrycket hos patienten. Design processen för en ny utandningsventil är en tidskrävande process mycket på grund av den mängd olika design möjligheter som kan utforskas för både talspole aktuatorn samt membran ventilen som oftast används i ventilatorerna. I detta examensarbete utforskades möjligheterna till att skapa och använda analytiska modeller för modellbaserad utveckling för att accelerera de tidiga design stadierna för en utandningsventil. Huvudkomponenterna, talspole aktuatorn och membran ventilen är modellerade separat och experimentellt verifierade. En fullständig modell för hela utandningssystemet samt en hardware-in-the-loop test plattform är konstruerad för att utforska hur väl de dynamiska egenskaperna samt kontroll prestandan för en utandningsventil kan prediceras. Slutligen utforskas diverse frågor angående ventil designen och en ny design föreslås för att demonstrera möjligheterna med en modellbaserad metod. Den slutliga modellen för både talspole aktuatorn och membran ventilen kan betraktas som tillräcklig precisa för snabb utforskning inom de olika design möjligheterna, då en felprocent under 10% är uppnådd utan manuell finjustering för varje design.

<p>The objective of this thesis was to improve a paraffin actuated micropump design, to be able to pump against extreme pressures (above 100 bar). This was accomplished by initially studying the membrane activation, using video capturing. The micropump has been improved to withstand pressures high enough, to enable use in an high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system. The micropump has been shown to pump against back pressures up to 150 bar, with a positive net-flow. This should be compared with the previously recorded maximum back pressure of 50 bar. The pumping against high back pressures was possible due to an increased understanding of the sealing of the membranes. This resulted in a new design that was manufactured and characterised. Without clamping the pump was measured to manage back pressures of 10 bar, and then starting to leak in a bond at the flow channel. With supporting clamping, the managed back pressures increased ten folded.</p><p>When measured on the different valves, pressure above 200 bar has been possible to withhold. Although the valves were below their maximum limit, the pressure was not possible to be further increased due to a limitation in the equipment, i.e. risk of damaging the connections. When examined after pressurised at extreme pressures (above 100 bar) several times, no signs of fatigue or damage of the membrane was seen.</p><p>A new behaviour of the valves was discovered. Above certain pressures some designs self sealed, i.e. withholding the pressure after the voltage was turned off. For these valves the pressure had to be released by some other means.</p>

In electromechanical measurement techniques, passive transducers and passive electrical networks often interact. In some applications, continua are considered as part of the system, where fields are formed and waves are propagated. In this article, networks, continua, and electromechanical transducers feature sufficient amplitude linear behavior in their environment (e.g. for operation around a bias) and are reciprocal. In addition, all elements of the system have constant parameters during the measurement. Then, the skillful application of the inherent reciprocity of these systems can lead to surprisingly useful benefits. This is shown by actual examples from metrology. The examples include the precise determination of transduction coefficients. It is also shown how the linearity of a system is checked by utilizing reciprocityrelations. Although the facts of the matter are well known, its potential is often overlooked or disregarded in measurement techniques.

As one of the key components of aero engines, compressor is required to endure higher pressure, possess higher efficiency and wider operating range. Intensive studies have been made on tip leakage flow and researchers find that by reasonably organizing tip leakage flow, aero engines are more likely to achieve better performance and reliability. Conventional flow controlling methods like casing treatment and micro jet could substantially modify tip leakage flow, unfortunately with a price of additional loss, not to mention the difficulty in manufacturing such structure. Whereas plasma actuation flow control method uses plasma actuators, such equipment is easy to build, responses fast and has a wide excitation bandwidth. This method has become a new trend in internal flow active control field. In this research, a phenomenological model is adopted to simulate DBD plasma actuation in the flow field inside a compressor cascade. The aim is to find out how plasma actuation will influence tip leakage flow. Meanwhile possible means to improve plasma actuation performance are discussed. First of all, numerical simulation of flow inside a compressor cascade without plasma actuation is conducted to validate accuracy of the numerical methodology adopted and then determine one numerical approach that satisfies specific needs sufficiently. Meanwhile, influence of casing movement on tip leakage flow as well as possible mechanism of tip leakage vortex core generation is investigated in detail. The results indicate: 1. Generating position of tip leakage vortex moves towards leading edge with increasing moving speed of shroud. 2. As shroud moving speed increases, trajectory of tip leakage vortex moves away from suction side of blade and closely towards shroud. 3. Casing movement tends to transform tip leakage vortex from circular to oval shape due to circumferential shearing. 4. Casing movement has little influence on total pressure field concerning absolute pressure value. While total pressure loss does reduce slightly with increasing moving speed of shroud. 5.Vorticity transport from tip clearance into passage may be contributing significantly to generation of tip leakage vortex inner core. Secondly, a simplified model of DBD plasma actuation based on literature [1] is derived and applied through UDF function of commercial software Fluent into the flow field. Different actuation positions, voltages and frequencies are applied in simulation and compared. After that casing movement is included. Main conclusions are as follow: 6. Plasma actuation shows significant suppressing effect on tip leakage vortex on both size, trajectory and strength. 7. The suppressing effect on tip leakage vortex grows stronger as actuator moves towards leading edge. 8. Increasing actuation voltage results in stronger suppressing effect on tip leakage vortex. 9. Plasma actuation can effectively improve total pressure loss situation near shroud region with increasing actuation power. 10. Increasing actuation frequency results in stronger suppressing effect on tip leakage vortex as well. Additionally, frequency performs slightly better than voltage. 11. Casing movement tends to weaken suppressing effect of tip leakage vortex by plasma actuation. More actuation power is needed to achieve sufficient suppressing effect in real compressors.<br>Som en av de viktigaste komponenterna i flygmotorer krävs det att kompressorn utsätts för högre tryck, har högre effektivitet och större driftsintervall. Intensiva studier har gjorts om skovlarnas toppspel läckageflöde och man anser att det är mer sannolikt att flygmotorer uppnår bättre prestanda och tillförlitlighet genom att på ett rimligt sätt reglera läckageflödet i toppspelet. Konventionella metoder för reglering av flödet, som behandling av “casing” och mikrojet, skulle kunna ändra läckageflödet avsevärt, men medför tyvärr ytterligare förlust, för att inte tala om svårigheten att tillverka en sådan struktur. Samtidig flödeskontroll med hjälp av plasma aktuatorer som är relativt lätta att bygga, reagerar snabbt och har en bred excitationsbandvid. Denna metod har blivit en ny trend inom det interna flödesaktiva kontrollområdet. I denna forskning antas en modell för att simulera plasmaaktivering av DBD i flödesfältet i en kompressorskaskad. Man försöker ta reda på hur plasmaaktivering påverkar läckageflödet. Möjliga sätt att förbättra effekten av plasmaaktivering diskuteras. För det första genomförs numerisk simulering av flödet i en kompressorskaskad utan plasmaaktivering för att validera noggrannheten i den numeriska metoden. Därefter undersöks i detalj vilken inverkan den relativa rörelsen av ”casing” har på läckageflödet genom toppspelet och mekanismen för toppspelsvirvel analyseras. Resultaten visar: 1. Startposition för läckagevirveln rör sig mot skovelns framkant när man introducerar och ökar den relativa hastigheten för ”casing”. 2. I takt med att den relativa hastigheten ökar, kretsbanan för läckage virveln rör sig bort från skovelns sugsida och närmare mot ”casing”. 3. Den relativa rörelsen tenderar att omvandla virveln från cirkulär till oval form på grund av skjuvkrafter. 4. Den relativa rörelsen av ”casing” påverkar inte det totala tryckfältet när det gäller det absoluta tryckvärdet. Samtidigt som den totala tryckförlusten minskar något med ökad hastighet. 5. Virveltransport från toppspelet till huvudkanalen kan på ett betydande sätt bidra till att skapa virvelns inre kärna. I senare delen av arbetet utvecklas och tillämpas en förenklad modell för plasmaaktivering av DBD baserad på litteratur [1], genom att använda UDF‐funktionen i kommersiell CFD programvara Fluent. Olika aktuatorläge, spänningar och frekvenser prövas i simuleringen och jämförs. De viktigaste slutsatserna är följande: 6. Aktuering av plasma visar en betydande dämpningseffekt på läckagevirveln i toppspelet både va det gäller dess storlek, bana och styrka. 7. Den dämpande effekten på läckagevirveln blir starkare när aktuator monteras närmare skovelns framkant. 8. Ökad aktuatorspänning leder till en starkare dämpande effekt på läckagevirveln. 9. Ökad aktuatorfrekvens leder till starkare dämpningseffekt på läckagevortex också.mDessutom fungerar frekvensen något bättre än spänningen. 10. Den relativa rörelsen av ”casing” försvagar effekten av plasmaaktuering. För att uppnå tillräcklig dämpningseffekt i riktiga kompressorer krävs mer effekt till aktuatorn.

The work presented in this paper aims at developing a hydraulic actuation system for an ankle exoskeleton that is able to deliver a peak power of 250 W, with a maximum torque of 90 N.m and maximum speed of 320 deg/s. After justifying the choice of a servo hydraulic actuator (SHA) over an electro hydrostatic actuator (EHA) for the targeted application, some test results of a first functional prototype are presented. The closed-loop unloaded displacement frequency response of the prototype shows a bandwidth ranging from 5 Hz to 8 Hz for displacement amplitudes between +/-5mm and +/- 20mm, thus demonstrating adequate dynamic performance for normal walking speed. Then, a detailed design is proposed as a combination of commercially available components (in particular a miniature servo valve and a membrane accumulator) and a custom aluminium manifold that incorporates the hydraulic cylinder. The actuator design achieves a total weight of 1.0 kg worn at the ankle.

Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der analytischen Modellierung und Optimierung synthetischer Jet-Aktuatoren, welche zur aktiven Strömungsbeeinflussung genutzt werden können. Ein in der Literatur bekanntes eindimensionales Modell wird ausführlich hergeleitet und an gemessene Geschwindigkeitsspektren verschiedener Jet-Aktuatoren angepasst. Der Einfluss jedes Modellparameters wird separat untersucht. Außerdem wird ein empirischer Zusammenhang zwischen Membranresonanzfrequenz und Luftkammervolumen angegeben, mit dessen Hilfe synthetische Jet-Aktuatoren mit größtmöglichen Strömungsgeschwindigkeiten durch die Düse konstruiert werden können.

Currently the system development of aircraft engineering concentrates its focus on the reduction of energy consumption more than ever before. As a consequence, the efficiency of subsystems inside the aircraft is highlighted. According to previous investigations the simplification/unification of conventional multifaceted board energy systems by means of electric power management is the most promising way concerning aircraft global efficiency improvement.
The main aim of the present work was to optimize a multi-device, heavy duty EHA-System by introducing of a comprehensive perspective. In order to achieve the final, non-plus-ultra improvement level, the attributes of architecture, hardware and operation method were combined in an interactive manner, whereas particular attention has been paid to the mutual enhancing influences.
The maximum reduction of losses, the minimizing of consumption and weight optimization can be achieved concurrently when the physical coherences between the involved subsystems are understood and their hidden potentials are exploited.
This can only be achieved in one way and the detail follows: The most effective way to reduce both manufacturing effort and weight is to introduce a multiple-allocation philosophy. The highest reliability possible can be achieved by novel cascade-nested system architecture and strict restraining of the control logic. By employing an ultra-low-loss hardware concept, the energy efficiency can be maximized at a necessary minimum own weight. Last but not least, possibly the most important cognition is that an intelligent operation method will improve the actual system and influence the entire system positively and with a lower effort.
The final conclusion is that the only and reasonable way to achieve an ultimate optimized solution of an actuation system is an all-encompassing consideration. Eventually it was to recognize that the final result is nothing but ultimate lightweight architecture, i.e. a non-plus-ultra solution.<br>Gegenwärtig konzentriert sich die Technologieentwicklung für Flugzeuge auf die Reduktion des Energieverbrauchs mehr denn je zuvor. Hierfür ist die Effizienz der an Bord befindlichen, nicht propulsiven Subsysteme neben der Wirkungsgradverbesserung der Triebwerke von zentraler Bedeutung.
Laut vorangegangenen Untersuchungen und Studien ist die Vereinfachung bzw. Vereinheitlichung der Vielfalt der konventionellen Bordenergiesysteme durch ein adäquates Energiemanagement unter Verwendung von Elektrizität der aussichtsreichte Weg zur Effizienzverbesserung auf der Gesamtflugzeugebene.
Durch die Elektrifizierung wurden die einzelnen Geräte zwar zuverlässiger und energieeffizienter als je zuvor aber gleichzeitig erheblich schwerer, sodaß ein signifikanter Verlust an Nutzlasten auf Gesamtflugzeugebene hervorgerufen wird.
Das Hauptziel der vorliegenden Arbeit war es, ein Schwerlast-EHA-System mit mehrfachen Betätigungseinheiten durch Einführung von umfassenden Perspektiven zu optimieren. Durch Einführung der sog. ganzheitlichen Leichtbauweise demonstriert die Arbeit, wie das Subsystem mit mehreren Endgeräten ultimativ optimiert werden kann, ohne Abstriche an Gewichtsbilanz u/o Kompromiß mit der Energieeffizienz zu machen.
Um eine wahrhaftige Optimierung, d.h. die Erreichung des ultimativen, Nonplusultra-Verbesserungslevels zu erreichen, wurden die Systemarchitektur, die Hardware und die Operationsmethode interaktiv kombiniert, wobei die besondere Aufmerksamkeit auf die interaktiven, zur Verbesserung führenden Einflüsse gelegt wurde.
Die Minimierung des Energieverbrauchs und die ultimative Gewichtsoptimierung gleichzeitig können erreicht werden, wenn die physikalischen Zusammenhänge zwischen den involvierten Subsystemen verstanden und ihre verborgenen Potentiale ausgenutzt werden. Der einzige und vernünftige Weg zur Erreichung der ultimativen Optimierung eines Betätigungssystems ist eine allumfassende Betrachtung, also eine ganzheitliche Betrachtungs- bzw. Vorgehensweise.

Transition delay in boundary-layer flows is achieved via reactive control of flow instabilities, i.e. Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) waves. Adaptive and model-based control techniques are investigated by means of direct numerical simulations (DNS) and experiments. The action of actuators localised in the wall region is prescribed based on localised measurement of the disturbance field; in particular, plasma actuators and surface hot-wire sensors are considered. Performances and limitations of this control approach are evaluated both for two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) disturbance scenarios. The focus is on the robustness properties of the investigated control techniques; it is highlighted that static model-based control, such as the linear-quadratic- Gaussian (LQG) regulator, is very sensitive to model-inaccuracies. The reason for this behaviour is found in the feed-forward nature of the adopted sensor/actuator scheme; hence, a second, downstream sensor is introduced and actively used to recover robustness via an adaptive filtered-x least-mean-squares (fxLMS) algorithm. Furthermore, the model of the flow required by the control algorithm is reduced to a time delay. This technique, called delayed-x least-mean-squares (dxLMS) algorithm, allows taking a step towards a self-tuning controller; by introducing a third sensor it is possible to compute on-line the suitable time-delay model with no previous knowledge of the controlled system. This self-tuning approach is successfully tested by in-flight experiments on a motor-glider. Lastly, the transition delay capabilities of the investigated control con- figuration are confirmed in a complex disturbance environment. The flow is perturbed with random localised disturbances inside the boundary layer and the laminar-to-turbulence transition is delayed via a multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) version of the fxLMS algorithm. A positive theoretical net-energy- saving is observed for disturbance amplitudes up to 2% of the free-stream velocity at the actuation location, reaching values around 1000 times the input power for the lower disturbance amplitudes that have been investigated.<br>I den här avhandlingen har reglertekniska metoder tillämpats för att försena omslaget från ett laminärt till ett turbulent gränsskikt genom att dämpa tillväxten av små instabiliteter, så kallade Tollmien-Schlichting vågor. Adaptiva och modellbaserade metoder för reglering av strömning har undersökts med hjälp av numeriska beräkningar av Navier-Stokes ekvationer, vindtunnelexperiment och även genom direkt tillämpning på flygplan. Plasmaaktuatorer och varmtrådsgivare vidhäftade på ytan av plattan eller vingen har använts i experimenten och modellerats i beräkningarna. Prestanda och begränsningar av den valda kontrollstrategin har utvärderats för både tvådimensionella och tredimensionella gränsskiktsinstabiliteter. Fokus har varit på metodernas robusthet, där vi visar att statiska metoder som linjär-kvadratiska regulatorer (LQG) är mycket känsliga för avvikelser från den nominella modellen. Detta beror främst på att regulatorer agerar i förkompenseringsläge (”feed-foward”) på grund av strömningens karaktär och placeringen av givare och aktuatorer. För att minska känsligheten mot avvikelser och därmed öka robustheten har en givare införts nedströms och en adaptiv fXLMS algoritm (filtered-x least-mean-squares) har tillämpats. Vidare har modelleringen av fXLMS-algoritmen förenklats genom att ersätta överföringsfunktionen mellan aktuatorer och givare med en lämplig tidsfördröjning. Denna metod som kallas för dxLMS (delayed-x least-mean-squares) kräver att ytterligare en givare införs långt uppströms för att kunna uppskatta hastigheten på de propagerande instabilitetsvågorna. Denna teknik har tillämpats framgångsrikt för reglering av gränsskiktet på vingen av ett segelflygplan. Slutligen har de reglertekniska metoderna testas för komplexa slumpmässiga tredimensionella störningar som genererats uppströms lokalt i gränsskiktet. Vi visar att en signifikant försening av laminärt-turbulentomslag äger rum med hjälp av en fXLMS algoritm. En analys av energibudgeten visar att för ideala aktuatorer och givare kan den sparade energiåtgången på grund av minskad väggfriktion vara upp till 1000 gånger större än den energi som använts för reglering.

In dieser Arbeit werden analytische Methoden zur Fehlerdiagnose an elektrohydraulischen Aktuatoren untersucht. Hierzu werden das erweiterte Kalman Filter (EKF) und robuste Paritätsraumverfahren angewendet und weiterentwickelt. Nach einer detaillierten Analyse und einer physikalischen, nichtlinearen Modellierung des betrachteten elektrohydraulischen Aktuators werden die möglichen Diagnosemethoden bewertet. Die am besten geeigneten Methoden (EKF und Paritätsgleichungen) werden zusammen mit direkt messbaren Symptomen in einer wissensbasierten Ergebnisklassifikation mit Fuzzy-Logik kombiniert. Alle methodischen Ergebnisse werden an einem entwickelten Prüfstand verifiziert. Dieser ist weitgehend automatisiert und bietet zusätzlich die Möglichkeit, physikalische Fehlereinbauten zur Ergebnisvalidierung zu integrieren.
