AbstractThe effective thermal conductivities of various Mn-Al powder compact compositions were measured using an Inverse Heat Transfer Procedure, and extensive validation work was also carried out. Specially fabricated cylindrical compact specimens were used equipped with two thermocouples at strategic locations. The porosity of these specimens was also measured. The estimated effective thermal conductivities of various Mn-Al compacts were in the range of 5.5 to 10.5 W m−1 °C−1, which are much lower than that of Al (237 W m−1 °C−1), and close to that of Mn (7.8 W m−1 °C−1). Hypereutectic Al-Si alloys have low thermal expansion coefficients, excellent wear resistance, and high hardness. To replace cast iron with hypereutectic Al-Si alloys, the hypereutectic Al-Si alloys must still have the originally desired mechanical properties. The addition of Fe and Mn to the hypereutectic Al-Si alloys can form Fe-rich phases, which can improve thermal stability. In this paper, the effect of manganese (0 %, 0.99 %, and 1.36 %) on the Fe-rich phases of hypereutectic Al-22Si-2Fe (% w/w) alloys was studied. Precise and accurate results were obtained for digests analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry for total content of Si, Al, Fe, Mg, Ca, Na, K, and Mn. We have investigated the dependence of the macrostep height on various additives in solution growth of n-type 4H-SiC. Surface modification by adding transition elements in periods 4‒6 (Sc, Ti, V, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Y, Nb, Mo, Ce, and W) and group 13‒14 elements (B, Al, Ga, Ge, Sn) was systematically studied to find additives improving smoothness of the growth surface. We found that Sc, Co, Mo, and Ge improved surface smoothness in addition to the already-known additives, such as Al, B, and Sn. Besides, these additives (Sc, Co, Mo, Ge) give no measurable influence on the conductivity of n-type

Ni-Al alloys create a cone- shaped figure when there is internal oxide. This behavior was studied by TEM, SEM, X-Ray (XRD), Optical Microscopy and Image Processing. The internal oxide precipitates and its results indicate that this precipitation forms continuous rods in a cone-shaped configuration extending from the surface to the internal oxide front for Ni-Al alloys, whereas for Ni-X (X = Cr, Mo, V, W and Mn) alloys the precipitation is discrete and more irregularly-shaped. Furthermore, in a high atomic percentage (5.18% to 8.67%), the precipitation was rod-like and continuous from the surfa

Ti, Al, P, and Y were immobile. Trace element data for chlorites separated from hydrothermally altered country rocks and from a quartz-chlorite vein in the albitized granite show similar REE patterns indicating a common origin:

The relationship between the pH in a 1:5 soil/water suspension and the pH in 0.01 m CaCl2 has always been considered to be linear, but recent findings favour a non-linear relationship. This trend was confirmed with a set of 1342 surface soils from acid to neutral red duplex and gradational soils from the Lachlan Shire in central western New South Wales. The linear relationship was consistent with that found by earlier workers, but inclusion of the second and third powers of pH(w) accounted for significantly more of the variation in pH(ca) resulting in a sigmoidal curve. In this work, the effects of alloying elements on the stacking fault energies (SFEs) of Ni58Cr32Fe10 alloys were studied using first-principle calculations.
