This work aimed to characterize Al2O3 matrix composites fabricated by the slip casting method using NiAl-Al2O3 composite powder as the initial powder. The composite powder, consisting of NiAl + 30 wt.% Al2O3, was obtained by mechanical alloying of Al2O3, Al, and Ni powders. The effects of thermomechanical processing parameters on the elevated temperature behavior of a 6061 aluminum -- aluminum oxides metal-matrix composite (MMC) have been studied. The same processing parameters were employed with unreinforced 6061 AL to provide a comparison. These materials were both thermomechanically processed at either 350 C or 500 C using two rolling schedules. Both schedules involved a constant strain per pass. Abstract In this study, we deposited alumina (Al2O3) coatings from powder consisting of dense particles using aerosol deposition. The powders were ball milled with zirconia (ZrO2) milling media for 0 to 9 hours to optimize the deposition performance. We investigated the impact of high-energy ball milling on the shape, size, and crystal structure of the Al2O3 powders, as well as their deposition behaviors.

Abstract In the present study, Al2O3 and Al2O3-Y2O3 composite coatings were deposited by atmospheric plasma spraying and compared based on microstructure, hardness, and sliding wear behavior. The mass ratio of α-Al2O3/γ-Al2O3 was found to be 0.53 in the composite, compared to 0.08 in the alumina layer, which explains why the Al2O3-Y2O3 coatings are harder and better conductors of heat.
