Abstract:

This study presents new insights in the anatomy of genital organs of some large helicid gastropods from northern Africa. The genetic analysis with the markers COI, 16S, H3, and 5.8 S rRNA+ITS2 reveales a high support for Alabastrina and Otala as separate evolutionary lineages within the Otalini. The position of Siretia as another separate lineage within the Otalini is discussed. “Tingitanaminetteidecussata” clusters within the O.xanthodon clade and confirms that the genus Tingitana can be synonymised with Otala. The alabastron in the Classical Museum, University College, Dublin, is described. It is suggested that it was found by Sir Arthur Evans in the ‘Throne-room’ at Knossos, and presented to Dublin by D. G. Hogarth, Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum. Evidence for its discovery in the notebooks of Evans and Duncan Mackenzie is discussed.

Gypsum rocks of Fatha Formation in Zurbatiyah area, eastern Iraq were studied in terms of mineralogy and petrography. Mineralogically, X-ray difractometry results reveal that gypsum rocks are predominantly composed of gypsum minerals with minor amounts of calcite, anhydrite, bassanite and dolomite minerals. Collections of glass vessels made with the core-formed technique from an ancient settlement on the island of Berezan are analyzed. The collection includes 8 alabastra, most of which are preserved in small fragments. Bu çalışmada Antalya Müzesine satın alma yoluyla kazandırılan 24 adet taş kap değerlendirilmiştir. Taş kap yayınlarının az ve çok önem verilen bir malzeme olmaması nedeniyle burada taş kaplarla ilgili alan çalışmalarına katkı sağlamak amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca Antik Çağ insanının taş kapları neden tercih ettiğine buradaki formların kullanım alanlarına değinilmiştir. Taş insan yaşamında en çok kullanılan malzemelerden bir tanesidir.
