In Kartki z dziejów igołomskiego powiśla. Wydawnictwo i Pracownia Archeologiczna PROFIL-ARCHEO, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.33547/igolomia2020.13.

Abstract:
In 1815, Igołomia became a border village. The authorities of the Kingdom of Poland, and then the tsarist administration maintained a customs house in the village. Its role was to facilitate the trade of goods from the territory of the Kraków Republic and the Austrian partition to the Russian partition. In 1844–1846 Wojciech Chmielowski, father of Adam, the future Saint Brother Albert, was the head of the 1st-class customs house in Igołomia. Adam was born here on August 20, 1845. His short time in Igołomia did not affect his fate, but the historical place of his birth was commemorated. When the Albertine Sisters began their service in Igołomia in 1986, this memory was strengthened. In 1994–1995 a new religious house and the Museum of St. Brother Albert were founded. The museum was located in the historic customs building, although the building itself was not the home where the Saint was born. This building was subjected to demolition after the mid-19th century. In its place after 1857, a new customs house was built, which survived until recently, when it was demolished in 2010 and a new museum building was erected in its place. The museum refers to the place of birth of Saint Brother Albert, and part of the exhibition displays the tradition of the customs house.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the book Studia z dziejów i kultury Żydów w Polsce po 1945 roku (Studies on the History and Culture of Jews in Poland after 1945), which was edited by Jerzy Tomaszewski. This volume consists of three short monographs by Polish graduate students in the early stages of their professional development. Two were originally written as MA theses: one by Maciej Pisarski on Jewish emigration from Poland from 1945 to 1951, and the other by Albert Stankowski on Jewish emigration from western Pomerania from 1945 to 1960. The third, by August Grabski, on the organization of Jewish religious life in Poland during the communist and (primarily) post-communist eras, originated as a seminar paper. On the whole, postgraduate writing of this type, if it is published at all, appears in limited-circulation journals for an audience of academics. The fact that these studies were published in book form, especially in paperback with the aid of a subsidy from the Polish Ministry of Culture, offers further testimony of the keen interest in the history of Jews in Poland evident among the Polish public in recent years.

Abstract:
This chapter explores efforts to rethink the meaning of political belonging. It delineates various models of citizenship found in Angloworld debate, focusing in particular on isopolitanism. The chapter examines the most authoritative account of isopolity, propounded by the famed legal theorist Albert Venn Dicey, before surveying other articulations of the idea, including those of Andrew Carnegie, W. T. Stead, and H. G. Wells. The penultimate section analyzes race patriotism. Just as citizenship was rearticulated as a form of identification with the Anglo-Saxon or English race, so too was patriotic regard: individuals owed allegiance to a nested set of communities, including their country and their race. Ultimately, the chapter offers a discussion of political symbolism, showing how race unionists designed rituals and markers of identity — from flags to public holidays — that evoked and glorified Anglo-America.

Abstract:
This chapter reveals the most accurate account of Barber’s first major commission, the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. It was commissioned in 1939 by Samuel Fels of Fels-Naptha soap for his ward Iso Briselli, a young violinist prodigy. Barber’s work on the concerto in Switzerland was interrupted by the impending Nazi invasion in Poland and, on arriving home, the illness of his father. As the work could not be completed in time for Briselli’s debut, it was premiered instead by Albert Spalding and the Philadelphia Orchestra and received a generous response, newspapers reporting it to be an “exceptional popular success.” The chapter also features four songs on texts by Gerard Manley Hopkins, James Agee, W. B. Yeats, and Frederic Prokosch, a friend of Barber’s. It mentions the piano trio he wrote for the wedding of Barber’s sister Sara and his nomination to the National Institute of Arts and Letters as its youngest member.

Wind turbines are classically designed for an extremely long lifetime in machinery design terms, for example, the Siemens SWT-6.0-154 was recently certified for 25 years [1]. The implication is that wind turbines accumulate damage via a number of mechanisms. A primary concern is naturally fatigue, exacerbated by a long life (high number of cycles); however, environmental effects such as bio-fouling and leading edge erosion damage the structure but also modify the Lift and Drag characteristics, particularly the stall behaviour.
