AbstractWe have estimated the absolute threshold of congenic albino and pigmented mice (C57) using ERG, pupillary light reflex, and VHP. We are unable to detect strain differences using ERGs or VEPs, but pupillary thresholds appear to be different. In addition, as we have previously reported for rats, VEP thresholds are considerably lower than the ERG b−wave thresholds. The VEP thresholds agree with behavioral data from pigmented mice made by others. The mouse VEP thresholds are close to the VEP thresholds in rats and the psychophysical thresholds of two human observers.

These findings are in contrast to the dose-dependent hyperthermia observed in mice following intrahypothalamic injections of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a putative central mediator of pyrexia. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are environmental ovotoxicants commonly released in cigarette smoke and vehicle exhaust. PAHs have been shown to target small ovarian follicles (25-100 μm) after a single high dose. Once irreplaceable primordial follicles are depleted in the ovary, ovarian failure results. The occupational chemical, 4-vinylcyclohexene diepoxide (VCD), induces pre-mature ovarian failure in mice and rats. A direct comparison between the ovotoxicity caused by VCD and that of PAHs was made by calculating an initial ovotoxic index (OI = ED₅₀ x 15d) in ovarian follicles of mic

Previous research has demonstrated the use of single-channel porcine-derived urinary bladder matrix (UBM) conduits in segmental-loss, peripheral nerve repairs as comparable to criterion-standard nerve autografts. This study aimed to replicate and expand upon this research with additional novel UBM conduits and coupled therapies. Fifty-four Wistar Albino rats were divided into 6 groups, and each underwent a surgical neurectomy to remove a 7-millimeter section of the sciatic nerve. Bridging of this nerve gap and treatment for each group was as follows: i) reverse autograft—the segmented nerve wa

Abstract:
Background. The optimal formula of calvitrin based peritoneal dialysis was composing of calvitrin 6.25 g LL~:: electrolytes such as sodium chloride 540 g, sodium lactate 448 mg, calcium chloride 25.7mg and magnesium chloride 5.08 mg Methods. In vitro studies; the cytotoxicity was investigated. Human peritoneal mesothelial cells (HPMC) were isolated and characterized as described in tetail elsewhere (29). Cells were depleated serum and treated with 15% Cal-PD, 7.5% lcodextrin, 1.5% Dextose and media controls for 36 hrs. Cells morphology changes were examined under microscopy. The results found
