Abstract:
AbstractAlbino rats have recently been reported to have increment thresholds against dim backgrounds that are two log units higher than those of pigmented rats. We, on the other hand, have failed to confirm these differences using electroretinogram b waves and pupillary light reflexes. This paper reports on experiments using evoked potentials from cortex and colliculus and single-unit recordings from colliculus. We recorded visual-evoked potentials from cortex and superior colliculus in the strains of albino (CD) and pigmented (Long-Evans) rats used in the earlier studies. Albino rats had an average threshold of −5.23 log cd/m2 and the pigmented rats had a threshold of −5.0 log cd/m2. Albinism alters the neural projections of the visual system. The authors wondered how this would affect visual function in rodents. They had previously shown that it doesn't alter the luminance threshold. They now explore visual acuity in the albino rat. They recorded cortical visual evoked potentials (VEP) on six albino rats, stimulated by sinusoidal contrast reversal gratings. Present study is based on the effects of different doses of Malathion on routine hematological parameters like RBCs, WBCs, Hb%, CT, PT, ESR, PCV, MCV, MCH, and MCHC. Four doses were selected according to the body weight of albino rats. The doses were selected as

AbstractThe Wistar albino rat is the animal most commonly used in scientific research around the world. Knowledge of the anatomy of the body of these animals is key in the research field, especially in cases when the research requires experimental surgery. Descriptive literature on the morphology of the cardiovascular system of these animals, particularly the heart, is old and difficult to access. Publications in journals are not readily available, and books approach the subject in a superficial way. The aim of this study is to research, organize, and translate the literature on the anatomy an

The study investigated the anti-inflammatory activity of ethanol leaf extract of Arthropteris orientalis in wistar albino rat. The plant extract was obtained with the procedure as described by Khalifa et al. [1] and both acute and chronic anti-inflammatory properties was assessed. Five groups of five animals each were utilized for acute and chronic inflammation respectively. Anti-inflammatory effect of the extract was evaluated on egg albumin induced paw edema in albino rats and edema induced by formalin in the wistar albino rats’ paw for acute and chronic inflammation respectively. This study is aimed at verifying the causal relationship of chronic circadian desynchronization and changes in body weight control. Eight male albino F344 rats aged between 12–15 wk were subjected to twice weekly 12-h shifts of the daily light-dark (LD) cycle for 13 wk (3 mo). Continuous circadian phase shifts consisting of intermittent phase delay and advance and reduced circadian amplitudes were consistently displayed in all five experimental rats implanted intraperitoneally with heart rate, body temperature, and activity transponders.
