Abstract:
A drug of longevity, prior to alchemy, was peach, from which the god of longevity has emerged. Alchemy began by synthesizing and red colloidal gold with gold to make the body ever-lasting and redness, as soul, to make life eternal. Its climax was reached with cinnabar-gold, which is blood-red, while red-gold is only brick-red. It was called Makaradhwaja in India. They have been fertility gods. Hermes was one and Alchemy has been named a Hermetic art. Makara was crocodile-cum-fish, god of fertility. Makaradhwaja means Emblem of god of fertility, signifying a drug conferring vigour of youth.

This article aims to investigate the concept of soul in Carl Gustav Jung's thought, trying to establish a possible differentiation for the term psyche, looking for points that distance and bring them closer. To fulfill this objective, a systematic study was carried out in Jung's works, that we see an approximation between the concepts of soul and personality. From this definition, the essay turns on the identification of three central moments in the author's thinking: the beginning of his academic career with the theory of Affective Complexes; the expansion of Jungian theory with the Collectiv

The universe was early divided into Earth below and Heaven above. These, two as one, gave the idea of opposites but forming a unity. Each opposite was assumed to be powerful and so was their final unity. For creation of the universe they projected reproduction to conceive creation. Now reproduction results in the union of two opposites as male and female. Correspondingly, the Chinese believed Light and Darkness, as the ideal opposites, when united, yielded creative energy. The two opposites were further conceived as matter and energy which became dual-natured but as one. The two opposites were

Abstract:
‘We want what you have’ is the most emblematic sentence in Lanchester’s Capital: it is printed on a postcard left in the houses of Pepys Road and evokes the spectre of house repossessions followed by the 2008 financial crisis. Conversely, in literature the repossession by definition is that of Faust’s soul by Mephistopheles. Ian Watts (2006) tracing the origins of the Faustian myth recounts the historical and fictional roots of the myth and affirms that that Faust represents the ‘unrepentant individualist’. Faust’s unstoppable desire to achieve his own interests by any means is eventually the

Fasting is a prominent practice across various religious traditions, serving in both spiritual and ideological functions. In Islam, fasting during Ramadan enhances self-discipline, empathy, and spiritual connection with God by abstinence from food and beverages, while also aligning with scientific research on the health benefits of intermittent fasting. Other religions adopt diverse fasting practices, including dietary restrictions, silence, and abstinence from sexual activity, to achieve spiritual purification and discipline. Philosophically, fasting is viewed as a means of self-restoration a

This paper uses alchemical metaphor to examine the psychological challenges United States military veterans face as they attempt to reintegrate into civilian society. The arc of the research tracks a military member’s progression from Basic Training to the transition back into civilian life. In particular, it pinpoints the psychological harm inflicted by the military’s collective consciousness on the individual psyche. Examining the process of military training from the perspective of a Jungian understanding of the psychological stages of alchemy, the paper illuminates a process that presents

This study delves into the transformative impact of diverse nutrient management practices on the yield, quality, soil health and carbon sequestration potential of multi-cut fodder sorghum. Employing a randomized block design with three replications across 11 treatments, the research evaluated the effects of organic, inorganic and biofertilizer-based nutrient applications. The findings were striking: a combination of poultry manure at 75 % nitrogen equivalent with biofertilizers (Arbuscular mycorrhiza and Azophos) led to a remarkable 31.2 % boost in fodder yield and a 36.4 % increase in dry mat

This contribution summaries some results of a work in progress dedicated to the philosophical and theological Zoroastrian interpretation of the role of the supreme god, Ohrmazd, as a dyer. This image has been framed within a net of pertinent doctrines, concerning the Christian idea of the “baptism” as a tincture obtained by means of an immersion, but also the image of Jesus the dyer, and the adaptation of these traditions within the Islāmic framework. The idea of a dying of the soul as an alchemic phenomenon is also part of this discussion, which involves Gnostic, Hermetic and Manichaean cont

Right from the start of HBO’s surreal new sketch comedy Fantasmas (2024), we are confronted by the “ghosts” of the show’s title. The work of Salvadorean-American comedian, actor, and writer Julio Torres, Fantasmas constructs a highly artificial set of digital hauntings that, this article argues, speaks to and through a Latin experience that conjures unresolved tensions of displacement and exile, as well as raising probing questions about human agency and identity in an era of globalised neoliberalism. Torres has also given his own explanation for the use of the term in his show: all the people

Property as both an idea and a practice has been interpreted through the prism of a liberal, law and economics paradigm since at least the 18th century. This dominant (and domineering) perspective stresses the primacy of individualism, the power of exclusion, and the values of private commodity. By contrast, concepts of property that evolved out of the counterculture of the 1960s and early 1970s challenged this hegemony. Countercultural, or Aquarian, ideas of property stressed pre-liberal, long forgotten property norms such as sociability, community, inclusion and personhood, and contested a p
