Abstract:
This paper discusses the use of ‘dramatic monologue’ and ‘stream of consciousness’ in T. S. Eliot’s “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”. It highlights the history of the two terms with references to certain lines of the poem. It unveils the effect of using such a technique by Eliot. The paper investigates how the speaker ‘J. Alfred Prufrock’ is trying to communicate with the reader in dramatic monologue. Furthermore, it examines how J. Alfred Prufrock’s brain and process of thoughts is working through the use of stream of consciousness and interior monologue to achieve such process of thoughts. The paper pays all the attention to main character’s language to answer the research’s question in which makes the paper a discourse analytic research. The main question that the paper raises is how Prufrock’s behavior explains the existence of dramatic monologue within himself. It is worth mentioning that the paper’s conclusion provides the findings of the research.

Abstract:
The works of the English poet T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) reveal a thematic and aesthetic interest in the subject of “time” as human experience, whether collective, as history, or subjective, as memory. His first poem, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” (1916), is a pioneer experiment on the stream of consciousness technique through which are shown the complex mental processes of its character, Prufrock, in a complex fabric of times and logical chains. The temporal dimension was an object of analysis for many critics of the poem, most of whom relied on interpretations based on philosophical perspectives, dispensing, however, with another fundamental aspect of “The Love Song”: the irony. Thus we sought to reconcile in our study the two main aspects of the poem, time and irony, lessening the philosophical perspective in favor of an aesthetic and stylistic approach. For this purpose we proposed an analysis of the time in “The Love Song”, based on the the rhetorical study of Dubois et. al. (1960), and its interpretation following the insights of Søren Kierkegaard (2010; 2013) and Paul de Man (1986; 1996) concerning the relationship between irony and temporality. As a result, we observed that the kind of time depicted in the poem corresponds to the time that theoriticians define as characteristic of the structure of irony: a time in which the present is felt as tedious or discontinuous; the past, as absent of mystified; and the future, as postponed or as anxiety.

Abstract:
Introduction: considering the high rates of caesarean and morbidities related to this surgical procedure, especially in Brazil, it is relevant to elucidate beyond the numeral perspective how the caesarian sections occur from the women\'s point of view who have been put through them. Objectives: to understand the primiparous women\'s experience of the caesarian. Method: a qualitative research based on the social phenomenology of Alfred Schütz. In 2012, eight puerperal women were interviewed. All of them have given birth in maternities which have health insurance in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The testimonies were obtained by asking the following questions: how was your experience of the caesarian? Considering this experience, what do you wish for the next childbirth? Results: most women prefer the caesarean section because they are afraid of the pain and sufferance from the vaginal parturition. They are influenced by close people to choose the caesarean. Even after the decision, they declare fear of the surgery as well as the anaesthesia. Satisfaction of the caesarean is revealed although the postoperative limitations are mentioned. Professional support is needed to care of the newborn, especially to promote the early mother-child contact and support the breast-feed. If there is a new pregnancy, women prefer to experience another caesarean since the fear of vaginal parturition. Final Considerations: the results point out that professional attitudes are necessary to respond to women\'s experience and expectations of the caesarean.

Hérisson, Armelle. "Le théâtre mirlitonesque d’Alfred Jarry." Paris 8, 2013. http://octaviana.fr/document/185505813#?c=0&m=0&s=0&cv=0.

Full text
Abstract:
In 1906, Jarry collaborated with Sansot in publishing a collection of six books of his works. Only two of the volumes came out and the project was abandoned. But what we now have is one, a medley of three operettas, two plays from the Ubu Roi saga and a collection of « Spéculations »; and the other, a title, Théâtre mirlitonesque, which introduced an unknown genre with polemic intentions. The Théâtre mirlitonesque (“Kazoo Plays”) is a collection of Jarry’s texts that he himself tended to describe as minor. The plays borrow from minor theatrical forms such as operetta and puppetry; the newspaper articles are on the fringe of literature; the writing owes a lot to popular songs. But at a time when ideas of verse, poetry and the theatre were being reworked, the Sansot edition was not merely a publication of Jarry’s minor works. The mirliton is a polysemy index, a kazoo that sounds like a performance by Punch, a popular chorus, doggerel, which talks about the way plays are performed, or about poetry. By putting it at the forefront of Sansot’s theatrical publications, Jarry suggests that the values and basic principles of poetry and theatre should be overturned. This thesis shows how, by converting the concepts of « bad » and « minor » into tools of poetry criticism and by declaring the poetic and dramatic qualities of uncertainty, approximation, conflict and the arbitrary, which reign supreme in Jarry’s « mirlitonesque » system of representation, he raises questions about poetry and opens up a new approach to verse and language

This chapter draws together the major themes and conclusions of the book and presents an overall picture of these chronicles, including lost chronicles, and their development. It deals with patrons, scribe/authors and place(s) of production, emphasizing the role of the court. It covers story and content, including discussion of the chronicle poems and poetic annals. It discusses the role of bishops, especially archbishops, and the religious houses and households connected to them. It pays attention to the identity of anonymous scribe/authors and to audiences. It emphasizes the plurality of these chronicles alongside a tradition of vernacular history-writing. It questions deliberate circulation buts stresses engaged history-writing including the importance of apparently neutral copies. It offers answers to the question of why this tradition of writing ended.

Abstract:
This chapter deals with the last surviving Anglo-Saxon vernacular chronicle, E, produced at Peterborough c.1121, and the last stages of Chronicle /E which lies behind it. The content and palaeography of E place it at Peterborough. Peterborough monastic history is now incorporated into the story, though the result is not a simple ‘house history’. Questions are raised about E’s annals numbered c.1060 onwards, their likely home(s), and the stages of their composition. Work on /E is viewed in the context of burgeoning Latin historiography, with which it has much common ground. The fragment, Chronicle H, is placed in this same world. The networks and contacts invoked to explain patterns of composition and exchange from the mid eleventh century are seen as still relevant. The changing relationship of vernacular chronicling to the court heralds the end of a tradition of chronicling for and by an Anglo-Saxon elite who had disappeared.

The present paper is a first step towards a detailed analysis of such phenomena, and a CFD model and approach is presented to have a detailed thermo-fluid dynamic picture in the case of blockage. The closed hexagonal, grid-spaced fuel assembly of the LFR ALFRED has been modeled and computed. At this stage, the details of the spacer grids have not been included, but a conservative analysis has been carried out based on the current main geometrical and physical features. Reactivity feedback, as well as axial power profile, have not been included in this analysis. Results indicate that critical conditions, with clad temperatures around ∼900°C, are reached with blockage larger than 30% in terms of area fraction. Two main effects can be distinguished: a local effect in the wake/recirculation region downstream the blockage and a global effect due to the lower mass flow rate in the blocked subchannels; the former effect gives rise to a temperature peak behind the blockage and it is dominant for large blockages (>20%), while the latter effect determines a temperature peak at the end of the active region and it is dominant for small blockages (<10%). The blockage area has been placed at the beginning of the active region, so that both over-mentioned phenomena can fully take place. The mass flow rate at the different degree of blockage has been imposed from preliminary system code simulations. Transient analyses with fully resolved SST-ω turbulence model have been carried out and results indicate that a blockage of ∼15% (in terms of blocked area) leads to a maximum clad temperature around 800 °C, and this condition is reached in a characteristic time of 3–4 s without overshoot. Local clad temperatures around 1000 °C can be reached for blockages of 30% or more. CFD simulations indicate that Blockages >15% could be detected by putting some thermocouples in the plenum region of the FA.

Abstract:
In the framework of Gen IV Heavy Liquid Metal Fast Reactors (HLMFRs) development, research activities are carried out for improving the Advanced Lead Fast Reactor European Demonstrator (ALFRED) project. In particular, the functioning and safety of the Steam Generator Bayonet Tube (SGBT) of ALFRED reactor (developed by ANSALDO Nucleare) needs to be experimentally investigated and numerical tools have to be verified and validated against reliable high quality data of SGBT stationary and accidental transient conditions. At the ENEA CR Brasimone, a full scale portion of the SGBT of ALFRED, composed by seven bayonet tubes arranged as triangular pitch inside a hexagonal shroud, was designed and assembled. It is called Heavy liquid mEtal-pRessurized water cOoled tube (HERO) and it was implemented as heat exchanger in the Integral Circulation Experiment (ICE) test section. The ICE-HERO test section is presently ready to be set in the large pool CIRCE facility for carrying out integral tests in Lead Bismuth Eutectic alloy (LBE) pool at about 400°C. ICE test section is equipped with a fuel pin simulator (FPS) of 37 electrically heated pin for an overall maximum thermal source of 1 MW and an argon injector above FPS for performing enhanced circulation (gas lift). The hot LBE (about 480°C) exiting from FPS moves upwards passing through the thermally insulated riser pipe and reaches an upper small tank, isolated from the outer colder LBE pool, called separator, from which descends shell side of the HERO heat exchanger and returns to the LBE pool, closing the integral circulation. The secondary side of HERO component (7 bayonet tubes) is fed by about 0.35 kg/s of water at 180 bar and 335°C. Each bayonet tube is composed by three concentric tubes. In the first (inner) tube, liquid water flows downwards in subcooled conditions and thermally insulated from outer parts. Between the first and second tube (annular cross-sectional area) water moves upwards and it is heated up to superheated steam condition. The annular gap between the second and third tube is filled by helium at 5 bar and steel powder for monitoring the possible rupture of the third or second tube and do not reduce excessively the heat transfer coefficient. The HERO component is highly instrumented for characterising the heat exchanger capabilities of the bayonet tubes in stationary and transient conditions. An overall number of 65 thermocouples are implemented, acquiring water, LBE and helium temperatures. Two pressure transducers monitor the feed water and steam line pressure. Each bayonet tube has four differential pressure transducers for measuring the pressure drops on the descending, ascending, and total water path and computing the water mass flow rate of each tube by a calibrated orifice. A Coriolis flowmeter is adopted to precisely determine the feed water mass flow rate. Moreover the signals of thermocouples, pressure transducers and bubble tubes implemented in the ICE test section will be acquired for an exhaustive analysis of the tests. A sensitivity analysis performed by RELAP5 code was carried out for defining the geometry and material to be adopted for the bayonet tube construction. The materials foreseen to be implemented have undergone modifications, AISI powder instead of SiC, air gap in place of the thermal insulating paint and AISI pipe instead of T91. The RELAP5 thermodynamic analysis predicted that the bayonet tube in updated configuration is able to provide superheated steam at about 400°C. The expected performance of HERO-TS is retained acceptable for the application to a prototypic unit and can be scaled to ALFRED.

Abstract:
Tanker vessels used for offshore oil production and storage are kept at station by turret mooring systems, enabling the vessel to weathervane in the direction of dominant environmental loads. The disruption of heading equilibrium for a turret-moored tanker was predicted by experiments and numerical studies. A vessel was observed to lose control in head sea condition, wherein for wavelength from 0.73 < λ/L < 2 (L-ship length) the model drifted to a large angle of 45–60 degrees (Thiagarajan et al. 2013). Previous numerical analyses conducted by the authors identified that this heading drift reduced remarkably in the presence of wind. This finding is confirmed by an experimental study and reported in this paper. A geometrically scaled down version of a turret-moored FPSO at 1:120 scale of a prototype VLCC was tested at the Alfond W2 Wind & Wave Ocean Engineering facility of the University of Maine. This lab is a unique facility equipped with a high-performance wind machine over a multidirectional wave generator, and can create regular or random sea-states with wind speeds up to 7 m/s. The tests reported here were conducted with regular waves under two wind speeds (12 and 25 m/s full scale). It was observed that the presence of an initially bow wind can minimize the heading instability. The reason for this observation is described by analyzing the effect of the wind induced moments on the equilibrium condition. Free-decay tests were also conducted to investigate the contribution of the wind damping to the total damping. Measured results show that in the presence of wind, the damping values are higher than those estimated due to hydrodynamics only. It also has been discussed that this wind induced damping on FPSOs, can result in smaller heading angles. From this study, it is concluded that the wind can play a large role in the station-keeping dynamics of the moored-tankers.

Abstract:
This paper presents technical details for a unique newly constructed model testing facility for offshore renewable energy devices and other structures established through federal and state funding. The University of Maine (UMaine) has been an active contributor to research in the field of floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) design and scale-model testing for the past 6 years. Due to a lack of appropriate test facilities in the United States, UMaine has led multiple 1:50 scale-model tests of FOWT platforms internationally, leading to the motivation to design and build a state-of-the-art test facility at UMaine which includes high-quality wind generation with waves and towing capabilities. In November of 2015, UMaine opened the Alfond Wind/Wave Ocean Engineering Laboratory (W2) at the Advanced Structures and Composites Center. This facility, shown in Figure 1, contains a 30m long x 9m wide x 0-4.5m variable floor depth test basin with a 16-paddle wave maker at one end and a parabolic wave attenuating beach at the other. This basin is unique in that it integrates a rotatable open-jet wind tunnel over the basin that is capable of simulating high-quality wind fields in excess of 10 m/s over a large test area. Since opening, the W2 has provided testing for various scale-model FOWT designs, oil and gas vessels such as a scale-model floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, and a large number of wave energy conversion (WEC) devices in support of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Wave Energy Prize. In addition to scalemodel testing, the W2 facility supports a wide range of model construction equipment including a 2.0m x 4.0m x 0.1m tall 3D CNC waterjet, a 3m long x 1.5m wide x 1.4m tall 5-axis CNC router, and an additive manufacturing facility housing a 0.6m x 0.6m x 0.9m 3D printer. To expand the capability of W2, a towing system is currently being designed to operate in conjunction with the multi-directional wave maker, which is shown in Figure 5. This equipment will provide bi-directional towing for a variety of applications. In addition to standard resistance testing, the broad aspect ratio of the basin provides reduced blockage effects while the multi-directional wave maker allows for tow testing a large number of wave environments and headings. The moving floor enables intermediate to shallow water tow tank tests, which are important for capturing the wave kinematics applicable to coastal environments, while the relatively deep water depths support testing of large structures such as tidal turbines and tow-out operations for THE 30th AMERICAN TOWING TANK CONFERENCE WEST BETHESDA, MARYLAND, OCTOBER 2017 2 large offshore structures such as wind and wave floating energy platforms. To test the capabilities of this system, UMaine is constructing a 1:50-scale model of the David Taylor Model Basin (DTMB) 5415 to perform commissioning tests. The towing system is planned to be operational in 2018.
