Research on the diversity of algae types and their abundance in Meras waters has been carried out using structured line transect sampling and quadrant placement methods. The result is a diversity of algae types with a Shannon index (H') above 1.75. This shows that the diversity of algae types is moderate where water conditions are still good enough for algae growth. This is reinforced by the results of analysis of the structure of algal cells using TEM which found the presence of Floridian starch as evidence of the photosynthesis process taking place in these waters. Recent research concerning benthic algae in streams suggests that the near-substrate hydrodynamic regime may affect the composition of benthic algal assemblages. Algae from local streams were allowed to colonize laboratory flumes containing substrates of different sizes under two velocity regimes to determine whether benthic algal assemblages were affected by substrate size or hydrodynamics. While all hydrodynamic parameters except for local velocity diverged among flumes with different substrate sizes, cell counts per unit area of substrate and the relative proportions of different forms of a

Bryophytes along with some Algae and Lichens form the primary components of the terrestrial ecosystem. They are often found in close association and intermingled with each other. A cyanophycean alga, Stigonema cf. minutum (C.A.Agardh) Hassall has been found growing as an epiphyte on Frullania tamarisci. The association is peculiar as the algal filaments form a close net all over the surface of phorophyte. F. tamarisci, a new phorophyte for an epiphytic cyanohycean alga from India is being reported.

In these cases, asymmetric total synthesis demonstrates its power. Abstract:
Content generation is a heavy task in virtual worlds design. Procedural content generation techniques aim to agile this process by automating the 3D modelling with some degree of parametrisation. The novelty of this work is the procedural generation of the marine alga (Asparagopsis armata), taking into consideration the underwater environmental factors. The depth and the occlusion were the two parameters in this study to simulate how the alga growth is influenced by the environment where the alga grows. Starting by building a prototype to explore different L-systems categories to model the alg

The seaweed collected after stranding on beaches of Latvia is underexploited natural resource, which has a potential as raw material for biologically active compound extraction for cosmetic and pharmacy and fertilizer in sustainable agriculture. The aim of the present study was development of the approach for the processing of brown alga Fucus vesiculosus biomass, collected from the Gulf of Riga. The thorough characterization of the chemical composition of Fucus vesiculosus has shown that it is a potential source for obtaining of nitrogen-containing fertilizers, and biologically active compoun

Abstract:
Various unicellular algae produce omega-3 (w3) very-long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (VLC-PUFA), which are rarely found in higher plants. In this research and other studies from our laboratories, it has been demonstrated that the marine unicellular alga Nannochloropsis (Eustigmatophyceae) can be used as a reliable and high quality source for the w3 VLC-PUFA eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). This alga is widely used in mariculture systems as the primary component of the artificial food chain in fish larvae production, mainly due to its high EPA content. Furthermore, w3 fatty acids are essentia

Abstract:
The synthesis of carotenoids has been studied toward enhancing the production of ketocarotenoids, since fish and crustaceans raised by aquaculture require astaxanthin and other ketocaroteinoids in their feed for desirable pigmentation. Notable progress has been made in attaining the goals of determining improved conditions for ketocarotenoid production in Haematococcus pluvialis and in elucidating the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway. For production of astaxanthin a number of strains of the green alga Haematococcus were evaluated, a strain CCAG was found to be optimal for photoautotrophic growt
