Abstract:

Abstract:
Background:Orbital inflammatory masses have been described as the common manifestation of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) occuring in 7- 45% of patients. Objectives:Identification and characterization of patients with orbital pseudotumor among Polish patients based on the national vasculitis registry, POLVAS.Methods:Clinical presentation and management of all GPA patients fulfilling ACR criteria or Chapel Hill Consensus Conference definition included to the Polish registry POLVAS who developed orbital masses in the course of GPA were evaluated. Results:Ocular involvement was found in 114 (27%) of 417 GPA patients registered in POLVAS, 34 (8%) developed orbital masses. Mean patients’ age was 47.8 (range from 19-75) yrs., 23 (67%) were women. Forty four per cent of the patients developed tumor at the beginning of the disease, 56% during relapse. Patients’ characteristics on diagnosis of orbital mass: 24 cANCA, 2 pANCA, and 8 ANCA negative, 9% active smokers and 31% past smokers, 29% had localized disease, 21% early systemic and 50% systemic with organ involvement, 29% had other type of ophthalmological involvement before pseudotumor occurred, 88% had active paranasal sinus involvement, 41% lungs, 15% CNS, 15% skin and 6% heart manifestations. Thirty seven per cent of patients had positive nasal swabs cultures, 50% of which were positive for Staphylococcus aureus. In 65%, tumor occurred during steroid therapy (46% had prednisone more than 5mg/d) and 45% on immunosuppressive treatment (19% when treated with AZA, 16% MTX, 6,5% MMF and 3,5% CYC). Due to orbital mass 86.5% were treated with CYC and 13.5% with RTX. Twenty one per cent had complete remission of the pseudotumor, 76% partial remission and in 3% patients there was no response to the treatment; 43% developed visual impairment, 20% suffered from blindness. Conclusion:Orbital inflammatory mass was not common manifestation of GPA among our patients. The mass developed at the beginning or in the course of the disease, even during immunosuppressive treatment. Orbital masses have been resistant to therapeutic interventions and were accompanied by high risk of visual impairment.Disclosure of Interests:Anna Masiak: None declared, Marcin Ziętkiewicz: None declared, Krzysztof Wójcik: None declared, Katarzyna Wawrzycka-Adamczyk: None declared, Radoslaw Jeleniewicz: None declared, Marta Madej: None declared, Joanna Kur-Zalewska: None declared, Katarzyna Jakuszko: None declared, Małgorzata Wisłowska: None declared, Hanna Storoniak: None declared, Michał Komorniczak: None declared, Barbara Bułło-Piontecka: None declared, Iwona Brzosko: None declared, Małgorzata Stasiek: None declared, Eugeniusz Kucharz: None declared, Alicja Dębska-Ślizień: None declared, Maria Majdan Consultant of: Roche, Amgen, Speakers bureau: Roche, Amgen, Jacek Musiał: None declared, Zbigniew Zdrojewski: None declared

Abstract:
Background:ANCA associated vasculitides (AAV) are a heterogeneous group of rare diseases with unknown etiology and the clinical spectrum ranging from life-threatening systemic disease, through single organ involvement to minor isolated skin changes. Thus there is an unmet need for phenotype identification especially among patients with granulomatosis with polyangiitis GPA, patients with microscopic polyangiitis MPA group seems to be more uniform. Recently, based on previous clustering analysis and clinical, histopathological, serological and prognostic aspects three subcategories of AAV have been proposed and named as: non-severe AAV, severe PR3-AAV and severe MPO-AAV [1].Objectives:In line with these attempts to subcategorize AAV we decided to use latent class analysis (LCA) on a large multicenter cohort of polish AAV patients from POLVAS [2] registry to identify potential new subphenotypes or confirm already proposed ones. Methods:Latent Class Analysis (LCA) approach was used as a model based clustering method of objects described by dichotomous (e.g., gender; ANCA status – cANCA, pANCA; organ involvement - skin, eye, ENT, respiratory, heart, GI, renal, urinary, CNS, peripheral nerves) and polytomous (number of relapses) variables supported by quantitative covariates (e.g., age at diagnosis, CRP at diagnosis, maximal serum creatinine concentration ever). Results:Results of LCA on our AAV group returned four class model of AAV subphenotypes, confirming existence of the previously proposed by Mahr at al. [1] and revealed fourth – previously not described clinically relevant subphenotype. To this fourth class - belong patients only with GPA, diagnosed at young age, with multiorgan involvement, high relapse rate and relatively high risk of death.Table 1.AAV subcategorization – summary of clinical characteristics and ANCA specificityLCA Class 1LCA Class 2LCA Class 3LCA Class 4No of patients13019410297AAV typeMainly GPAMainly GPAmainly MPAOnly GPAAge at diagnosisMiddle ageMiddle ageOldYoungMale/female ratio1:22:11:11:1Main organ involvementENT, respiratory, eyeRenal, respiratory, ENTRenal, respiratory, skinMultiorgan involvementRelapse rateintermediateintermediatelowhighModified class description (based on ref. Abstract:
Includes bibliographical references.<br>Writing about redress 1 -un-dressed, giving my voice to the work, is probably the hardest part for me. It was my voice which was silenced when, as an eleven year old, I stepped into the witness box of the Cape Town Magistrates' Court. In the end my only defence was silence, as each consecutive question of the defence distorted my personal story until my position of victim turned into that of perpetrator. That is to say, the perpetrator was released and I went to jail. Not literally. But the effect of the trauma shaped who I am today. This experience triggered my ongoing investigation of systems of control, positions of power and causes of trauma which I explored in my undergraduate year in 2007. Comfort Room - ukhuselekile - Speak out 1 was a psychologically charged installation which explored aspects of secondary trauma experienced by children in the judicial process. The current body of work moves beyond the trauma as it investigates processes of redress. For that reason the details of the initial events are no longer the primary concern; strategies of transformation are at the heart of this investigation. This brief detour outlines my personal motivation and interest in these strategies, or forms of redress, which lead me to juxtapose processes of what I have termed aesthetic redress against processes of judicial redress. I therefore stage the fictional case of R v Judicial Redress 2010 (R v JR 2010) 2 in this document and my practical body of work.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper closely examines fairy tale films with road movie components, in particular those films featuring female protagonists. The study’s objective is twofold: first, to further develop existing research on the road movie by exploring one of the lesser known constituents of this broad genre and, second, to address gaps in scholarly literature on road movies when it comes to themes in female-led trips and the characterization of travelling females. Through a detailed analysis of the journeys of female characters in recent voyage-oriented fairy tale films—Peter Pan (P.J. Hogan, 2003), Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton, 2010) and Tangled (Byron Howard and Nathan Greno, 2010)—the investigation shows that these new heroines significantly differ from those of old. Their travels are portrayed as being less difficult, and the traits that they exhibit while on the road, namely fearlessness, rationality and an undying optimism, are rather favourable when compared to those exhibited by former road heroines. Although these protagonists still face characters who wish to impede their movement away from a domestic setting, it is demonstrated that the protagonists are ultimately successful in not only acquiring power in the surroundings that they find themselves in, but also in carrying over their goals and dreams to their own worlds upon their return, privileges that most former road heroines did not have. Ultimately, the study shows that females can be as efficient travellers as males, and in some cases are portrayed as even more competent than their male counterparts.

Nesse caso os modelos de calibração também apresentaram bons coeficientes de regressão (> 0,97) e baixos valores de erros de previsão para amostras externas (< 10%)<br>Abstract: This work represents an innovation in analytical chemistry, dealing with new potentialities of X-ray fluorescence technique and using X-ray scattering effects and chemometrics for processing the data. The potential of this technique to analyze the restricted substances by European Directive RoHS/2002/95/EC were evaluated from studies with an EDXRF equipment, fitted with a rhodium tube as an X-ray source. The samples evaluated were solutions containing five different elements (cadmium, lead, mercury, bromine and chromium). Besides appropriate, the proposed method proved to be very fast, simple and effective, as well as not destructive and of low cost, with great potential to efficiently replace the three analytical techniques used traditionally. The calibration models present high values of regression coefficients (> 0,99), low values of prediction errors for external samples (< 15%, except for speciation of chromium) and limits of detection and quantification below the RoHS control limits. With this same method, it was possible the direct speciation of chromium using a conventional X-ray apparatus, an unprecedented fact in the scientific literature. In this case, the calibration models also present high values of regression coefficients (> 0,97) and low values of prediction errors for external samples (< 10%)<br>Mestrado<br>Quimica Analitica<br>Mestre em Química

Abstract:
This book is the first extended study into the politics of whiteness inherent within postfeminist popular cinema. It analyses a selection of Hollywood films dating from the turn of the millennium, arguing that the character of the ‘melancholic white woman’ operates as a trope through which to explore the excesses of late capitalism and a crisis of faith in the American dream. Melancholia can function as a form of social capital for these characters yet betrays its proximity to a gendered history of emotion and psychopathology. This figure is alternately idealised or scapegoated depending on how well she navigates the perils of postfeminist ideology. Furthermore, the book considers how performances of melancholia and mental distress can confer benefits for Hollywood actresses and female auteurs on the labour market, which in turn has contributed to the maintenance of white hegemony within the mainstream US film industry. Case studies in the book include Black Swan (Darren Aronofksy 2010), Gone Girl (David Fincher 2014) and Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton 2010).

Abstract:
While Alice Oswald’s most famous response to the ancient world is her acclaimed Memorial, in which she revisits Homer’s Iliad, much of her earlier work betrays her deep engagement with the classical world, reminding us of the fact that she holds a degree in Classics from Oxford. In particular, her book-length poem Dart (2002) is both an evocation of the Devonian landscape through which the river Dart travels and a biography of the river. Oswald borrows Ovid’s device of personifying rivers and allowing them their own voice or voices, while also drawing on a series of Ovidian myths in her depiction of the region. In her musings on the life of the river today, Oswald examines what impact global warming, pollution, and cheap labour might have on the river’s future.

This chapter looks at a selection of post-2000 Asian American films that feature Asian American protagonists who are 1.5 or second-generation immigrants. The Debut (dir. Gene Cajayon), Red Doors (dir. Georgia Lee), Saving Face (dir. Alice Wu), and Charlotte Sometimes (dir. Eric Byler) question the professional and financial ambitions that were hallmarks of the model minority ideal of the economically successful Asian American established in the 1960s. The films depict protagonists who find themselves unable to fulfill what Sara Ahmed calls the "happiness duty" and experience melancholia and depression. A number of these independent Asian American filmmakers explore non-heteronormative and non-conjugal ways of expressing love and passion, revealing the shifting values, transcultural affiliations and desires that are now part of the multiplicity of Asian North American identity.

Abstract:
AbstractThe existing scale of violations of the rule of law by some Member States, including capturing judicial independence by their governments, is a relatively new phenomenon for the EU; the one for which the EU based on the EU common values (Article 2 TEU) originally was not prepared to effectively deal with. The EU reacts to current rule of law crisis by using different legal methods and instruments: it inter alia applies existing procedures (Article 7 TEU procedure and with more success general infringement procedure under Articles 258-260 TFEU) and struggles to develop new ones. This contribution is focused on the new EU legislative initiative of connecting in the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021–2027 transfers of EU funds to Member States with their observance of the rule of law. Or to put it differently, this legislative initiatives would authorize the EU institutions to suspend regular transfers of EU funds to Member States that systematically breach the rule of law.

Abstract:
The paper deals with a topic including the abolition of the tax on the acquisition of immovable property and its impact on the state economy. Although the tax on the acquisition of immovable property was abolished in September 2020, there are still many unanswered questions about the repeal. One of the main objectives of the contribution is to answer the question of why and, if so, on what grounds the cancellation was made at the most inopportune moment, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The contribution will, inter alia, address tax theory, in particular in relation to trasnfer taxes, by comparing them, including the abolition of the tax on the acquisition of immovable property itself. An integral part of this will be to look at the effectiveness of abolishing this tax and to make at least substantial assertions as to why such a repeal did not take place either sooner or later, and in particular what effect it will have on the overall economy of the state, which is already facing a burden on the state budget due to the pandemic situation.

Abstract:
AbstractFictive motion, i.e., the figurative stative use of verbs of motion, has attracted much attention in cognitive linguistics as a paradigm case for how basic dynamic concepts are exploited figuratively in concept formation (Langacker 1986; Matsumoto 1996; Talmy 2000; Matlock 2004a, b inter alia). In this paper, we present a case study of the fictive motion reading of the German movement verb steigen ‘climb, rise’ and explore how it can be related to the various dynamic readings of the verb. In our account of steigen, which builds on Gamerschlag, Geuder &amp; Petersen’s (2014) analysis of the dynamic readings of the verb, we contrast the different readings in terms of frames, i.e., recursive attribute-value structures in the sense of Barsalou (1992) and Petersen (2007/2015).

Abstract:
This chapter assesses moral ambiguity and the representation of rape in Pedro Almodóvar's Talk to Her (2002). On first screening of the film, the spectator is placed in an unusual and morally ambiguous position. One grows to feel sympathy for Benigno and see him as the protagonist of the film. As the audience never sees the rape, they are spared from upsetting imagery and as Alicia is in a coma and thus unable to resist, they are protected from the violence and force that usually accompanies cinematic depictions of rape. Added to this is the challenging fact that Benigno feels that the sex was an act of mutually understood love rather than a carer taking advantage of a patient. Moreover, the film delivers the highly problematic message that rape is somehow beneficial for Alicia. Talk to Her, as with other art films, asks the spectator to reflect and engage with their own attitudes and values, and controversially, to consider whether some types of rape are 'worse' than others. The rape in Talk to Her can also be considered as a metaphor or symbol for several things, notably the symbolic rape of Spain under the dictator Franco, or as a symbol for Benigno reaching a delayed adolescence.

The Douro Valley is one of the least studied, though with the most archaeological potencial areas in Norwestern Portugal. Even though some areas have been extensivelly researched, the information that we have for most of the territory comes from older excavations or traditional historiography. The roman presence in the Douro Valley is generally accepted for the period since the II century AD, even though it is more and more accepted the presence of backgound noises, data that allow for older roman instalations. The site, located on the hillside of a small Iron Age castro, is the reflexion of a landscape change, that started with the advent of Rome in the territory, and that will forever change the Douro Valley unto the suspended garden of Miguel Torga.

Abstract:
